[Powernet] Failed Fuel Action Plans

2020-01-30 Thread Robinson, Brent via Powernet
At Entergy, we are in the process of updating our RP failed fuel procedure and
action plan process. We are envisioning specific BWR and PWR action plans,
using a graded approach and action/owner/due dates format for the important
actions. We would appreciate copies of your relevant procedures and/or action
plans.

Feel free to contact me directly using my email address brob...@entergy.com

Re: [Powernet] DLR vs SRD Comparison

2019-09-24 Thread Robinson, Brent via Powernet
At Entergy, we use the following criteria for SRD – DRD discrepancy
investigations (see red below for 100 mrem and below):

EVALUATE AND DOCUMENT DLR/SRD discrepancies for the following conditions: [INPO
05-008, Rev. 2]

Β· Either the DLR DDE OR the SRD dose is greater than or equal to 50
mrem but less than or equal to 100 mrem AND the discrepancy is greater than 25
mrem

Β· Either the DLR DDE OR the SRD dose is greater than 100 mrem AND the
difference between the two is greater than:

o 25 percent for photon radiation

o 50 percent for neutron radiation

% Diff. =[(𝑆𝑅𝐷 βˆ’π·πΏπ‘… 𝐷𝐷𝐸)/𝐷𝐿𝑅 𝐷𝐷𝐸] 𝑋 100

Hello all,
I have seen in a recent, related inquiry that a number of sites have an
"Clerk/Admin" as their Dosimetry Resource, as does DC Cook. Acknowledging that
"Issuing DLRs to workers" or "Performing Routine DLR Exchanges" are not tasks
contained in ACAD 93-008, I'd appreciate your response to this quick survey:

Do you have an Admin resource and/or RP/HP Tech in Dosimetry? RP Techs ONLY

Do you have a qualification similar to, "Perform initial issue of DLRs to
workers" (this does not include special/extremity dosimeters)? Yes

Do you have a qualification similar to, "Prepare for/perform routine DLR
Exchange"? Yes

If you have a specific qualification to perform such tasks, are they obtained
via OJT/TPE, Lab Eval, Simple Task (no formal qual required)? OJT/TPE

Cook "has always" performed OJT/TPE for these two tasks, but we are considering
making them a Lab Eval or even just a simple task, acknowledging that we have a
pretty detailed procedure for both activities.

I appreciate your replies,

If YES, how is this performed?

(g) Containers holding licensed material (other than sealed sources that are
either specifically or generally licensed) at a facility licensed under Parts
50 or 52 of this chapter, not including non-power reactors, that are within an
area posted under the requirements in Β§ 20.1902 if the containers are:

(1) Conspicuously marked (such as by providing a system of color coding of
containers) commensurate with the radiological hazard;

(2) Accessible only to individuals who have sufficient instruction to minimize
radiation exposure while handling or working in the vicinity of the containers;
and

(3) Subject to plant procedures to ensure they are appropriately labeled, as
specified at Β§ 20.1904 before being removed from the posted area.

Our current station procedures direct tracking of extremity dose to be
performed using PICs in conjunction with each extremity DLR.

* Is your facility tracking extremity dose using PICs, or do you use
electronic dosimeters? Electronic dosimeters

* Do you have any internal OE or technical basis for using one over the
other? By process, we place the ED on the wrist/ankle, and multiply the
reading by 2 to estimate the SDE-ME value. This has proven to be
conservatively high but in the ball park of the actual extremity DLR results.

Re: [Powernet] Neutron dose tracking

2018-04-17 Thread Robinson, Brent via Powernet
See the St. Lucie response below ...

1. A flow chart is used to drive the method to perform neutron monitoring
of personnel. The process evaluates whether the work involves containment
entry, ISFSI, a neutron source, or in areas outside the containment (such as by
the escape hatch), etc.. For the most part, neutron to gamma ratios (vs.
gamma to neutron) are used, that are based on historical surveys by location,
component ID, standardized survey points, and evaluation of historical
estimated to DLR dose. Once determined, a neutron correction factor (NCF) is
entered into Sentinel (the RP computer system software), which automatically
calculates the estimated neutron by multiplying the NCF by the SRD gamma value.
We have found this to be very accurate at determining neutron dose. However,
it does get a little tricky when going to multiple areas of containment (due to
the varying neutron to gamma ratios), but we have NCFs to apply in those
situations also.If the survey during the work activity indicates a neutron
to gamma ratio different than the NCF in Sentinel, we have supervision evaluate
whether to use the Sentinel NCF or manually override the NCF using the survey
ratio.

2. The criteria above is specific for the work performed and area to be
entered.

3. No

4. Yes ... guidance for moderated and unmoderated sources

5. Monthly in accessible areas outside of containment (including the
ISFSI pad), and upon entry (or use) in containment or with source use.

Good luck!

D. C. Cook is wondering whether sites have self-reading dosimeters that have a

If the dosimeter does have a clock function, do you use it?

For the plants that do use it, have you noted any positives or negatives with

I would think it would be more of a distraction than a help but looking for
