[Samba] Wierd Samba permissions problem (URGENT)

2005-10-20 Thread Lee Leahu

Hello List,

Please CC me on responses as I am not currently subscribed to the list.

Please see the following attached files for details.

Basically, Samba comes back and says the our users have no rights to create /
modify / delete files on a share, even though the file system permissions seem
correct and the smb.conf file looks good and the user either owns the file /
directory or is listed in the group.

[Samba] Selecting Samba Printer Port

2002-06-15 Thread Lee Leahu

I have a strange problem here. I have a network of Windows NT and XP clients that
print to printers shared by Samba.

When I double click on the printer icon, the queue opens and it says in the title bar,
"Initializing", then "Failed to connect, Retrying".

I was able to resolve this on Windows NT by created "Samba Printer Port" as a local
port. Unfortunatly in Windows XP, everything is greyed on on the 'Ports' tab. The
most I can do right now is create a "Samba Printer Port" by going into "Server
Properties" and defining a global port for all the printers. But the problem that
still remains is How can I tell my networks printers to use the "Samba Printer
Port"?

I had already setup my printers in lpd.conf and smb.conf.
Plus, I don't have a "add printer command" script.

Re: [Samba] WinXP joining a samba PDC

2002-06-06 Thread Lee Leahu

From what I understand when I setup a WinXP domain using Samba PDC,
You need to be running 2.2.4 or later of samba.

The reason behind this is that 2.2.4 provides support for Windows XP in a domain
environment.

Samba (from another email today on the mailing list) uses ports 137, 138, and 139. I
also read that samba currently doesn't speak the 2000 protocol (i think ports 135 and
445).
I'm not sure what to do.

Re: [Samba] Re-Sharing A Samba Share via Win32 Platform

2002-05-28 Thread Lee Leahu

I have a production windows iis server, and a development windows iis server and a
suse linux 8.0 development server as well.

I need to access the files on the production iis server, but for some reason (i have
no clue why) it is not accepting any
connections on port 139. I am unable to mount the share via smbmount directly.

Rather, I am able to mount the share onto my development iis server. On the
development iis server, I am able smbmount
any shares on that server. So I'd like to smbmount the production's iis server share
which has already been mounted on the
devleopment iis server.

Does this make sense?

[Samba] Re-Sharing A Samba Share via Win32 Platform

2002-05-28 Thread Lee Leahu

I ran accross an article a while back, and for the life of me I can't find it to save
my life now.

This article explained how to take a mapped network drive (to samba share) on NT and
re-share it to the rest of the network as if the share lived on the nt box itself.
Does anyone know how to do this??

Thankx,
Lee

Re: [Samba] Windows XP

2002-05-24 Thread Lee Leahu

You either did not setup the machine's account manually on the samba server,
or you did not specify a add user script
or the add user scripted failed to work correctly.

NT, 2K, and XP machines need their own machine account on the samba server,
as well as the user's account who will be logging on.

My recomendation is to add the add user script and not worry about things anymore.
You can find an example in the smb.conf man page.

Thereis no domain item in the globals section.
Use workgroup instead. See the smb.conf man page for details.

Re: [Samba] Automating Joining a Domain

2002-05-22 Thread Lee Leahu

I recommend that you run the latest version of Samba, 2.2.4 I think, if you have
windows XP machines to add to the domain.

You'll want to add the following line to your smb.conf file in the [globals] section:

add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /dev/false -M %u

That will allow the machine to automatically create it's own machine account on the
samba server.

You also need to set Domain Logons = yes in the globals section as well. I'd set the
os level to 33.

[Samba] HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP

2002-05-21 Thread Lee Leahu

Hello,

I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on
Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print
servers.

I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain
controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba.

I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers and plotters to the XP
machines.

I have recently just downloaded, compiled, and installed the latest version of LPRng
on my server. I setup the printcap file to point to the jetdirect card attached to my
HP DesignJet 2500 CP plotter and my HP DesignJet 755 CM PS plotter.

When I use lpr to print a plain text file to the plotter, using the -V and/or the
-D switches, I am able to determine that LPRng (the server) is successfully
accepting the messages. My problem is that when LPRng goes to send the text to the
plotter, the plotter responds back with 'invalid character or line terminated by EUL
command' or something similar to that.
My question is should I be concerned with being able to print directly from my server?
If not, how could I setup LPRng and Samba so that Samba will share the printers
directly and only pass the data along (kind like raw mode?)?
My third question is how can I configure Samba to use the printers attached to the
multi-port network print servers (according to JetAdmin 3.42, all three ports on the
network print server have the same mac and ip addresses)?

Thanks,
Lee Leahu
