[RCSE] Fuselage storage?

2001-01-06 Thread Bill Harris

I'm finishing up my workshop and have a "clean room" to the side for plane storage
and activities adverse to balsa dust. Wing storage is not a problem: vertical 1x2
runners with 12" dowels angled up and spaced at 4" makes a good wing rack.
I'm not set on how to store my sailplane fuses, though. Initial thoughts are to have
an 8' 1x2 on the wall at eye level, horizontal, with pilot holes drilled at 6"
intervals and #8 or #10 screw-eyes, and hang the fuses by the towhooks. This would
seem to be the tidiest way to store several fuses. I have been leaning then against
the wall, nose down, but this seems too Slobovian to me.

Re: Re: [RCSE] Altimeters

2001-01-06 Thread Bill Harris

That's why I asked about that Vario's legality at 433Mhz. Getting a Ham license is
not that big of a deal since they "dumbed it down", but my concern would be use on
that band. If it's OK today at one site, there is no telling what the situation would
be in the future or at other sites. Too expensive to risk not being able to use it.
Working at 27 Mhz might be a better option.

Hi
In part 15 it tell you that you can't cause interference with other
licensed use of the freq. band. The 433Mhz is in the 70cm Ham
band. And the freq. that the vario is using has been set a side for
Auxiliary/repeater link & control by the ARRL band plan. The Vario
is low power (~100mw), but this is enough to Tx 10-15mi line of
sight. So in your TD ship 500-2000 ft up in the air. The Vario signal
could cause interference over a large area.

Like there add said, it's legal & license free in Germany, you
have to make sure that it is legal in other countries. You will use
it on your own risk. If you are not a Ham, & don't know what the
control freq. are in the area you use it. You could face a fine of
$10,000 per use in causing interference to the control of a repeater.
And people have had to pay this much for causing interference.
So get your Ham license & check with the local
ARRL band freq. coordinator. That way you will be legal & not
cause interference to the control/link freq.. You don't have to know
any code. Just get a study guide for no-code Tech license read through
it 3 or 4 times. Take the test (it's very easy to pass W/O the code) &
get your license. Then you can use 6 meter (50 Mhz) R/C Radios too.

Re: [RCSE] [rcse} Winches

Since you are looking for a manufacturer of a BB winch, and not a winch kit, your only
choice is the Winch Doctor at http://members.xoom.com/winchdoc/ since Rham/Rahm
retired.

[RCSE] Mini Ellipse

Hi all
I have receives my mini ellipse for waiting after 4 month, (it should
be arrival before the X'mas). The real stuff looks much better then a
photo and it got a first class workmanship, that is the standard of all
the molded model should be!!
Now I will going to built the little baby but I have some question :

Is there would be inforce the body ?
because in Hong Kong all the slope flying site have many rock.

What kind of servo is good for the Mini Ellipse ?
I also want the rudder,

Is there need to build the removable V-tail ?
and how to make this?

Cheers

[RCSE] V-tail questions

2001-01-06 Thread RacerEdg31

I have two questions about V-tail size to ask the Exchange

  1) Is there a set % of the wing area that a V-tail should be?
  2) Does it have to be bigger if its a poly (rud/elev) ship?
Thanks

Greg,

Do try it with a good DS foamie. I have DSd the top of a table top
mountain where the last 30 feet or so where a near vertical cliff and
it worked well. There is enough separation there. I realize your
situation is reverse, so it's more do-or-die for you. Good Luck!

Kristopher, you have the primary use pegged already. Many of the current
handheld GPS personal navigators have track logging ability, and would be
ideal
for scoring XC contests, at least. Unfortunately altitude logging is a rare
feature among affordable RC sized units. Altitude logging on the GPS units
used in full scale sailplanes is only certified when pressure altitude is the
parameter being logged, due to lack of short term stability in GPS altitude
readings.
This requires additional parts in the unit which make it larger and more
expensive.
Prices and sizes are coming down though, and the FAI is looking at the
possibility
of allowing certified GPS altitude logging due to the recent removal of
selective
availability (SA) from the public GPS satellite signals.
Virtually all full scale glider races are now scored with GPS flight data
loggers,
the old method being that of photographs taken of a turnpoint while in a
specified
"observation zone", a method that was slow, manpower intensive, and mistake
prone.

I use a Garmin handheld GPS in my glider on every flight, and upload the
track log
onto my home computer after each day of flying. The logging interval is
adjustable
from 1 second to as long as you want it. 4 seconds provides extremely fine
resolution for a full scale glider, I imagine that a 1 second logging
interval would
by plenty for an RC glider, however at that 1 second interval, the Garmin on
has
about 1/2 hour of logging ability due to memory constraints. I use 10 seconds
for most flights, and this still shows circling even in the smallest thermals.
The commercial units designed specifically for flight data logging have much
greater memory, but also cost $500-1200.
