[RCSE] RCSE Attacked by terror ists
But I won't be one of them, and I won't help their efforts by turning the forum over to their efforts. So. Today I traveled from Denver to Grand Junction today and I have to tell you guys there is nothing but soaring opportunities in Colorado. The air is thin and that means the planes are a whole lot faster on the slopes. I learned the hard way about the sun up here, the thin air and dry climate really fries your face and lips. Not sure if I'll be able to catch my flight home on Friday, which would be a real shame, meaning I'd have to fly the RMSA's thermal field for another couple of days. [RCSE] Hew Maple Leaf Encore DLG
Hi Guys, With all of the tragedy today it may not be the right time to talk about a new toy I received today but I am hoping something positive might be just the right medicine. I know it has helped me. I received one of Don Peters' new Encore DLG today and am extremely pleased with the overall quality of this plane. Maple Leaf is still the leader in their ability to construct with Kevlar. The wings and fuse are really a work of art. I am going to spend the next couple of nights building this thing so as to be able to fly it at the upcoming HLG contest at the Last Fling in Tulsa OK this coming weekend. It looks like it will be a quick build as are most of Don's planes so with any luck I should have her ready. If this thing flys as good as it looks I should be a very happy camper. [RCSE] Artemis K/C for Sale (New in Box)
Fellow Soaring Enthusiast, I have a brand new Artemis K/C for sale. I have just received this kit a few weeks ago, after waiting for months. This is my very first hollow molded ship and after inspection, I realized that I could never fly it at my slope flying site. There are just to many rocks and I would destroy it on landing. Live and learn. I have not done anything to it. It still lives in the box. It sports a custom paint job (blue, red and white). I would just like to recover my investment of $850.00. The Artemis is an all molded thermal duration or F3J glider. Evolution of the very popular Hera, the Artemis KC (kevlar/carbon)(F3J) received some technical improvements. The Hera has great handling and is very hard to beat in thermal duration contests, it also has the best value to performance ratio on the market. The Artemis retrieves the best from the Hera and adds the following features: The center panel now has one degree of dihedral. The wing saddle integrates the wing to the fuse more aerodynamically. The tips feature a very subtle curved shape. Premolded servo pockets, can receive JR341 or similar servos. Top exit for the flap linkage, leads to a stiff and very accurate flap control. The tail attachment has been modified to ease the control attachment. One ballast tube standard. Longer nose to ease balance with less lead. If anyone is interested in this excellent kit, please e-mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Thanks. David, I watched this horror unfold before me on television, in the small hours of this morning, here in New Zealand. I still feel stunned at the magnitude of it. While driving to work this morning, I looked at those driving past me and everyone seemed to be in the same state, blank expressions with no normal emotion on their faces, (much as you described.) The effect of this act has obviously been felt around the world and I can only hope that the individuals who perpetrated this crime are brought to justice. I'm a pilot. I spoke to my father who flew 767's for Delta on this subject. Our consensus is that the skill required to fly a jetliner into a structure is significant. The coordination required to fly two into different structures within minutes is even greater. -B Jim Bacus wrote: > > I know there are a number of pilots on this list, I have a question. [RCSE] USA Viking F3F Qualifier update
Gentleman, Despite recent events, I am pleased to announce that USA F3F Team Viking Race Qualifier scheduled for Los Banos, CA on September 20-23 is still on. We are looking forward to the dozen or so international travelers participating in this event, who vocally continue to insist on coming. Your positive response in the face of today's events is encouraging and we hope that successful airline scheduling can be arranged. Your combined presence will be much enjoyed by all. As of today, there are still 10 pilot positions open. If you are going to be in the area before the Visalia event, we actively encourage you to participate in our event. F3F is just like golf: It's really easy to do, but very hard to do well :-) To see an example of how F3F is flown and what is involved, please take the time to download this excellent 3.5MB video taken by the French F3F participants (courtesy of Pierre Rondel and rcsoaringmag.com): http://sloperacing.com/images/valdrome[1].mpeg We have been blessed by many generous sponsors and have put together an impressive raffle with thousands of dollars of aircraft and radio gear. Since our pilot entry is limited to 50, your odds of winning a great prize are much better than at Visalia :-) For online information and entry form, please visit our website at: http://sloperacing.com/Viking/vrqualifier.htm The American Slope Racing Organization would like to publicly thank our sponsors, without whom, this would just be another World Cup qualifier :-) Composite Specialties (www.f3x.com) GliderKing.com MultiplexUSA ShredAir.com Formational Ventures Al the Bag Lady (killer wingbags!) [RCSE] Another day that will live in infamy
I was flying my small cessna just yesterday afternoon, thinking what a priviledge it is. Today, the entire nation's air traffic is grounded. John Roe was saying he wished the world was a different place. I couldn't agree more. After today, it will be a different place, of course, but not the one either of us had in mind, I'm sure. Now I'm getting on a bicycle to go feed a friend's cat, a friend who can't get home from Oregon because his small plane is grounded. The details of life can feel so absurd in the face of events this large. I'll spend the ride praying for todays victims, and hoping for peace for this world we live in. It seems almost wrong that it is such a perfect beautiful late summer day here in Seattle. Breathe deeply, everyone. Every lungfull is a priviledge. Lift, Scobie in Seattle.

[RCSE] Hera setup & landing technique?
Hello All, I know that with todays events, the last thing I should be thinking about is something so trivial as model soaring but I have I question or two. I just purchased a hera and flew it for the first time last weekend and have a few setup questions for those of you who fly hera's. The plane flies great, but a bit different than the addiction I am used to. Do you use Flap following aileron? I noticed that I could not seem to get enough ruder mix to counteract the adverse yaw created by the ailerons. I played with the differential but it got too windy and we had to leave. I am thinking that if I use flap following aileron, I could use less aileron which would require less rudder mix? Your thoughts? How about landing tehnique. I prefer long and low approach with my addiction, but this did not seem to work well with the hera? > I wish the world was a different place. > > J. Roe USA >> Sadly John, the world is a different place. It became one at 0946 EDT on >> September 11, 2001. Bill & John and all, Bill and John and all: To make the world a different place is exactly the goal of I don't want to know how many people who want to turn this planet into "Allah's". These fundamentalists are the minority in the islamic world (let's hope), but I have no idea what could be a cure against people who are willing to kill themselves and take as many non-believers as possible with them, believing that if they die in the holy war that they would go to heaven directly. What worries me most is how apparently easy it was for them to take out the US, without the use of weapons or even bombs. Realizing that each plane fueled up in the sky can be abused as a weapon that easy is scary, and who knows if the terrorists even had to smuggle any weapons on board? What will be a security improvement that could prevent this from happening again? Will it be enough to take out Bin Laden, if they could ever hunt him down? Where is the "enemy"? How much of a threat are all the people dancing in the streets when they see the US in chaotic, burning disaster? Are most of those pictures propaganda and in real life those fathers, mothers and children know better? It is scary. I just heard that military forces in San Diego are on 'delta 3' alert, which is one level below war status. I wanted to schedule the Cessna over the phone this morning to go on a cross country flight when the flight school told me I probably won't go anywhere in a plane today or maybe even the next couple of days, I should just turn on the news. Ironically when I was on my motorcycle going on the 101 towards Ventura, I thought "Well, I have not watched the news today, although I am a little worried about those couple of small earthquakes in LA within the last 48 hours which could be a sign of a bigger one coming soon. I wonder how the freeway would look like if the big disaster really happens..." Little did I know that a different kind of disaster had indeed happened. May the victims and families find peace, and may there be justice for the culprits. May it be over with the violence and may the judges have wisdom to not make matters worse. Re: [RCSE] The Attack
Pat- This is so true. What we all too often forget at times like this is why we are such a great country. Its because people are innocent until proven guilty. People are free to walk in the streets and travel as they wish. It is not the buildings they attacked today, it is our way of life. To start blaming an easy target only gives in to their efforts. As a country we must first come together and renew our commitment to being the greatest country in the world. Then we must use everything in our power to bring these people to justice. Justice is what they fear most. Only one that is cowardly would give up life to not have to face one's actions. After we make them accountable we blow them back to hell. [RCSE] Today's Infamy
Comparisons between today's attack and Pearl Harbor abound. At least, at Pearl Harbor the targets were primarily military and the attackers military personnel. Not so in today's cowardly attack where the weapons of choice were domestic airliners carrying civilian passengers and crew. The cool, calculating planners of today's attack purposely chose domestic flights bound for the west coast thus ensuring a heavy load of fuel. Their utter disregard for human life plus the hot-headed "zealots" who commandeered and crashed the planes are a deadly combination. I pray not only for the families of all of the victims, those working so hard in the massive rescue efforts, but also for swift, efficient justice for those truly responsible for these cowardly actions.
