[RCSE] Fine Week of Soaring
A friend loaned a DVD to me the other day called, Fine Week of Soaring, done by Geovision out of MA. WOW! If you enjoy watching the big boys, there is both great information and people like George Moffat in it and some of the best air to air stuff I have ever seen. This was featured in Air and Space mag a bit back, not sure what the $ is but the kool factor is 10 on the scale. The website for the is www.geovisiononline.com/fineweek take a look. After watching this, flying in a gaggle in one thermal has a new meaning when these guys are doing it within feet of each other. Marc RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] WAY cool visitor at field today
Saw one while sloping on the coast just south of San Francisco (the secret spot). Three or four of us were flying R/C gliders when we caught sight of this full scale coming up the coast. We all landed to get a better look and the hang glider guys scattered. [RCSE] RE: transmitter bags
Hi, On occasion I use a "RadioGlove". Works fine, very handy in a light drizzle too. I couldn't find a link to it, but found this: I cannot find a link to a review that I thought I had, but the phone number for them is 801-465-4228. Many hobby stores carry the Radio Glove. Many people think that this is the best product and I recommend the large size.

Re: [RCSE] Transmitter bags
Hi Jeff You might want to consider these gloves. They work great and you don't have to try and find the hole to stick your hand in to get to the stick after launch. Plus your finger tips an thumb are still able to grip the fuse for launch. If it's really cold once you get your plane settled you can take your hands of the sticks just long enough to slip the ends over you fingers and you still have full feel on the thumb. I love them and there only $13.00. http://www.newberryknitting.com/detail.cfm?stylenum=A2X Maurice - Original Message - From: "Jeff Steifel" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "rcse" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, November 13, 2004 4:41 PM Subject: [RCSE] Transmitter bags Ok, a few years ago I saw some bags used for slope and foul weather flying. [RCSE] I am Saddened this day
A very dear and old friend, at the risk of losing his family, over a seriously failing business, is closing his hobby shop. There are a number of factors involved, to say the least. The most important, being cheap mail order items. It has been my experience in the past, to find the ol'hobby shop a wealth of knowledge. None could be trurer than this case, However we all know that money does not grow on trees. I post this in the hopes that YOU support your local hobby shop as much as you can, for with out them, I fear that we are ALL lost. Best of luck and well wishes for my friend of old, I hope the family issues work out, and that the new endeavor, helps make up for the years of personal losses !! [RCSE] Albuquerque Soaring
Hello to all. I recently had the opportunity to spend a month in Albuquerque, NM. I knew ahead of time I'd be there, so I sent my Encore ahead in a Sportube via Fed Ex ground. I packed it very well and it arrived in perfect condition. I had some family obligations that prevented me from flying two of the weekends I was there but I was able to fly with the Albuquerque Soaring Association at the sod farm in McIntosh on my last weekend in town. They're a great group of people and instantly made me feel welcome. I had some extra room in my Sportube so I brought back an Ellipse 4. I shipped it with my Encore via DHL and everything arrived in perfect condition. Thank you Mr. Averill for the great deal on the Ellipse! I'd also like to thank the Albuquerque Soaring Association for their hospitality and Bozo allowing me to ship my Encore to him. RE: [RCSE] Foam Rating(s)
This thread is great for us old engineering types. Remember all the material testing I did as a newbe engineer. Next challange is to actually plot load deflection curves remembering that this stuff is probably very rate sensitive ;^). Ever want an Instron in your basement? I did. Jack Iafret "Keeper of the Nostalgia Rules" From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [RCSE] Foam Rating(s) Date: Fri, 12 Nov 2004 17:44:25 EST Following up on compression strength of foam for vac bagging, picked up some Dow Scoreboard in Tulsa, lugged it back to the wilderness, and then panicked when it measured slightly lower bulk density than Owens Foamular 150. However, a check of the Dow website indicates Scoreboard, Square Edge, etc., have a min rating of 25psi. (_http://dowbp-us-residential.buildscape.com/items/?type=products_ (http://dowbp-us-residential.buildscape.com/items/?type=products) ) A small cantilever was set up in the basement and lead shot was added until a 1" square piece of each type of foam deflected 25%. This is a somewhat arbitrary rating but it provides a relative comparison. A very rough calculation back to loading at this deflection gives: White (virgin) beaded foam ~ 16 psi Foamular 150 ~ 21 psi Dow Scoreboard ~ 29 psi It's noteworthy that the white foam remains crushed but the others are gradually springing back. The amount of deflection is continuous with weight so, in effect, the initial modulus of Scoreboard > Foamular 150 > Virgin beads. Bulk density is not a good rating factor. Not sure what this implies for specific max vac for each material - other than rank ordering them a bit - but if you've got a kid that needs a science fair project this school year .. - Dave R RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
