[RCSE] "Wait and Wail...NIB Pike Superior For Sale"

2005-03-18 Thread GordySoar

This is the same plane I have been flying for the past year or so...
Full carbon layup
Red Bottoms
White Tops
Red Tip Accents
Yellow Fuse (Mine have Blue fuses but the yellow is easier to see at a
distance)

I bought two spare, but my number one plane has over 1,000 flights on
it, five different countries and DS...and is still my number one
plane.  I have only test flown its back up..so no need to hang on to the
spare third.  And its time I get a full blown DS ship :-).

$1300 plus $20 return shipping on the Sportube I will send it in.

Re: [RCSE] Futaba Super 8UAPS/8UAFS

2005-03-18 Thread Phil Barnes
As a matter of fact I just sent two of my Futaba 8U transmitters in for
servicing today. The repair service that Futaba uses works very well. One of
the transmitters I sent in was an 8UA system that some aftermarket user had
modified to put the three position switch on the left. Guys do this all the
time. I have not done this but it is possible to physically move the switch
to the other side and perhaps modify the wiring harness so it reaches the
new position. I'm a little hazy on what is involved since I have not done
that operation myself.

Perhaps a better idea is to send the transmitter to the Futaba service
center and ask to have it changed over to "switch mode 1". If you go with
the do-it-youself method then you will have a problem if you ever want to
send the transmitter in for any sort of repair work. The first thing they
will insist on doing is to return the transmitter to factory standard
condition before doing any other work. They won't mind putting the
transmitter into factory standard condition as a "switch mode one"
transmitter but you will have to get that done before any other factory
service work can be done on the transmitter, so you might want to consider
getting that conversion done from the beginning rather than attempting some
non standard modification yourself first.

I have been impressed with the service they have offered and it did not seem
expensive either. They will fix every little thing on the transmitter that
you send them including the replacement of broken switches, etc. It will be
just like a new transmitter when they are done.

Here is a link to the service center;
http://www.futaba-rc.com/service.html
You just fill out and print a repair order and send that in with the
transmitter. For an extra $35.00 they will give you a two day turnaround
time also.

Everyone,
I have the predecessor to the Super 9's. It's probably the same in regards
to most aspects but this one is a discontinued item. I have a
Start/Normal/Speed switch. It says twice in the manual "If you wish to
have
the three position switch controlling Normal, Start and Speed, you should
purchase the 8UH Helicopter system. The UA system places it on the
right-hand side." I wonder which techno-geek-college-kid thought up that
especially after you purchasing it! Don't get me wrong I really like the
radio for ease of programming. A normal powered acrobatic pilot who could
care less which side of the TX to place the 3-position switch to a
sailplane
pilot who is right handed...well now it gets interesting. Now, I got fast
hands.

The question is has anybody modified their radio and switch the switches
around on the transmitter? It's a discontinued item and haven't even
looked
to see if it would work.

Suggestion, thought, ideas or "I've been down that canyon road before"...

The question is has anybody modified their radio and switch the switches

Yes this is a standard proceedure, the switches are mounted on their own
little
pc boards, so you have to desolder the leads and make new longer leads to
route
the switch and pc board to the other side.
I don't remember if the pc boards are fitted, you may have to actually swap
the boards
to the reciprocal switches, then extend the leads.
Not a big deal though.

While you are at it, why not order some better switches to replace them
with!
Even radio shack switches are more robust than the flimsey things that come
with the radio.

Re: [RCSE] Wanted: Multiplex Antenna

2005-03-18 Thread Bill Swingle
The results I got were difficult to obtain. I had to use a poor performance
antenna on the receiver with the added noise of an electric motor &
controller to see any problems.

With this poor installation, the Smiley was unflyable. The Becker did OK but
the range was limited to ~200 feet. Then it'd begin to glitch badly. Only
the factory antenna worked well but I only flew it to ~500 feet. Though it
never did experience glitching at that range.

Your 50% approximation of the Smiley's loss of range is pretty good. I'd
"ballpark" the Becker at 25%. The theoretical minimum loss to any of these
coiled antennas is quoted to be 15%. But I've never experienced that
personally.

My saying is "the shorter the antenna, the worser the performance". I've
never found anything that disagrees with this though I'd love to find one.

Re: [RCSE] Wanted: Multiplex Antenna

2005-03-18 Thread Bill Swingle
I have two Smiley's, a Becker and the factory original antennas.

All four work nicely on my MPX transmitter. Each just screws in. No adapters
are needed. I think George Voss still sells the Smiley's quite reasonably
priced if you're looking for one.

However, don't fall into the trap of thinking they work the same. I've
experimented with all three and can tell you from empirical evidence that
they do NOT. The Factory unit is still the best. The Becker is number 2. The
Smiley is number 3.

All are fine for a good receiver installation. But there is a difference
between them so be aware of it and the possible limitations it COULD impart
to a specific plane. Personally, I fly foamies with the Smiley and crunchies
with the stock.

Though number 2 in performance, the Becker is the coolest.

Well, I already have a smiley short antenna. The
thing is, I don't trust that one when flying my scale ship at aero tow events.
Has anyone had any problems at all with the smiley? From what I have heard, the
range with the smiley is about 1/2 of the OEM antenna, which *should* be fine
but I don't like to experiment with my scale glider.

[RCSE] Receivers for Sale

2005-03-18 Thread Lex Mierop
Hey Folks,

I'm in the process of switching over to the 6 meters so I've got
some 72 Mhz receivers for sale.

3 Hitec Super Slim 8 Rx - Positive shift (JR/Air). 2 have JR plugs, the
other one has old Airtronics plugs. No Xtals. All three are just back from
Hitec service and are ready to go.

$120 for all three or $45/each for the JR plugs; $40 for Airtronics.

Hitec 555 with Deans mini antenna. Works great, never crashed $40.

Prices include shipping...

Hey Bill...your a level 4?
After 8 hours on that slope for level five your second might leave too ;-).
That's why I got my wife flying a glider...but she also has more sense than
I do.
Yup, my wife can fly gliders, also IC & E power, and R/C Helis. But she
chooses to just time for me nowadays, and I kayak with her. :-) One of these
days,
I'll get set up to try the 8 hour slope, with some witnesses & other flyers.
We have a couple slopes around here that will support it on the right day, and
I have some other LSF flyers here also.

[RCSE] Vision help

2005-03-18 Thread David J. Butkovich
Anyone still using Vision (Atrax)? I can't get the flaps to work in
conjunction with the ailerons. I set values and nothing happens.
Flaps go almost 90 and reflex is fine. It's the full trailing edge movement
that is evading me.
TIA
Dave
