[RCSE] On the opposite end of the cam spectrum...

2005-12-16 Thread Ben Wilson
On the exact opposite end of the scale, I just recently upgraded my
portable cam to a Canon Digital Elph SD400 w/ a 1 Gig card in it.

Wow! Tiny, quick shutter speed, a direct-drive mode, a great movie mode
(30 fps @ 640x480) and a very solid body and internals. Nice, quick
start-up and shut-down. Good photo features w/o too many "novelty"
features. Good on the battery life, too! Photo quality is excellent
for such a small camera.

If you look hard enough you can find one for < $300.

My choices are:
DSLR:
Nikon D50 or Canon XT350. Basically the same features at basically the same

cost. If you already have either Canon or Nikon AF lens then stay with that
system. 1000.00 with a -200mm lens added.

Re: [RCSE] ???

2005-12-16 Thread Greg Smith
Dudes,

I have a Nikon D100 as well and have had if for at least 2 years maybe 3. I
got it shortly after it came out. I have a new D200 coming and if you want
new it is killer compared to anything under $4000. Body sells for $1699 ish.
If you want to talk about a used D100 and 70-300 lens, lets talk. I replaced
the 70-300 with the VR 70-200 which I love.

So this stays soaring related. Every published shot I've taken came from the
D100 including Model Aviation article photos and soon a Model Aviation
cover!

That can be as wide open.

My choices are:
DSLR:
Nikon D50 or Canon XT350. Basically the same features at basically the same
cost. If you already have either Canon or Nikon AF lens then stay with that
system. 1000.00 with a -200mm lens added.

For Point and shoot or all in one I have a Panasonic FZ5 that is VERY fast
shot to shot! Only DSLR's are faster and my Panasonic cost about 350.00 USD
today. It has Image Stabilization and a 12x optical Leica lens.

If you want to spend all the money go with the Canon 20D or Nikon D200. Both
will cost over 2000.00-2500.00 with a lens that you will like.

Thanks,

I have a Nikon D70S. I LOVE this camera--it's fast, it has a nice,
solid feel, and it takes all my expensive Nikon glass.

There is no perceptible shutter lag, so it's good for action
photography. The 18-70 zoom that is recommended for the camera is
adequate, but I more often use the professional lenses--85mm 1.8,
35-70 2.8 and 80-200 2.8.

I have a 6GB micro drive, which holds about 1,700 images at maximum
resolution. I could have easily gotten by with a smaller card.

The standard battery seems to last forever. I haven't even kept track
of the number of shot's it'll handle. Probably close to a thousand, I'd guess.

HTH,
Joe Parsons

I've been using a D100 for about a year and I love it. I had a D1X but had
to get rid of it to pay some bills. I imagine the D50 will be a great
camera too.

Canon seems to have cheaper prices for equivalent pixel count, but I've got
a bunch of $ tied up in Nikon, so that's what I stay with.
