Re: [RCSE] Jr R700 rx in contest environment?
Hi Jim You said "My view is that no FM receiver is suitable for a contest environment" Actually there're all FM (Except of course AM which nobody would use!) Even a PCM RX is FM! I think what you mean is a Single Conversion FM Rx! They are notorious in causing problems when in a high "interference" environment! That's what the JR R700 is. JR does add some patented RF filtering (they call it ABC&W filtering ) to try overcome this problem, but my experience (and apparently others) shows that it's just not as good as using a DCR (Dual Conversion Receiver) The Dual Conversion FM RX, sometimes called Super Heterodyne, is the only one to use! I've found (and I'm sure that most of my fellow RMSA members would agree) that the Hitec Rx's are very good and light. The Hitec 555 is used by many of us, with no problems, even when 10 sailplanes are flying are once! There are many detailed articles around about the differences between DCR & SCR. Contact me of-line if you want to get to some of these! My view is that no FM receiver is suitable for a contest environment. I once got a glitch so nasty with my R700 once that I crashed a new Image 2m. The DSR receivers are pretty unreliable in my view as well. I once put a Berg6 GIII in a Pike Superior and watched in horror as control slowed and degraded to the point where I had no control at all. (And yes, the antenna was routed out the fuse and up to the fin) That plane ended up in a tree, totaled. Still looking for a DSR solution, I tried a Sombra Shadow. I put it in a little speed 400 glider to test it out. It flew fine for a while, then, progressive loss of control and a crash, just like the Berg. In fact, the behavior was exactly like the Berg! I fly only the JR R770, R649 and the R2000 synth receivers and they are rock solid. In crowded contest environments, these receivers are very, very reliable. I didn't see one glitch on my R770-equipped Pikes during the whole event at Visalia. Yesterday, my son and I were flying in a pylon race yesterday with an FMA M5 V2 in our Voodoos, and we were getting intermittent glitches. I'm going to switch these planes to R770s. I have heard that the Multiplex IPD receivers are good. Why not try one of those? --Jim On Jan 16, 2006, at 6:51 AM, eye_rc_soar wrote: I'm toying with using a Jr R700 rx (18 g w/ case) to reduce weight vs my tried and true Airtronics 92778 (35 g w/case). I asking about the R700 rx and not the PCM R770 rx since I am an Evo flyer. Does anyone have experience with this receiver in a contest environment, i.e. in a crowded frequency environment. I don't want a receiver that behaves nicely in a normaly flying environment and then goes crazy at a major contest. Is the HiTec Electron 6 being used, or other light weight receivers in a crowded frequency environment. thanks, don RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Realizing 300MPH
Actually it's closer to 20 secs (18.9) I'd guess you forgot that the circumference of a circle is Pi times diameter not radius! - Original Message - From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Friday, October 07, 2005 9:24 AM Subject: [RCSE] Realizing 300MPH Participants of this forum that solely fly thermal duration may be a bit perplexed by the recent 300+ mph achievement of our dynamic soaring compadres. To help you appreciate the magnitude of this achievement imagine this scenario: You have your sailplane at a comfortable altitude 1/4 of a mile distant from you. The air is such that you can fly perfect circles around you without a loss of altitude. At 300 mph, you'd complete a circle in approximately 10 seconds. That is truly moving out!! Re: [RCSE] Batteries??
Hi Kent I recently switched from Batteries America to cheapbatterypacks.com on the recommendation of a very active & experienced(particularly in electrics!) club member-Lenny Keer whom I'm sure many of you know! I have only used them twice so far however, there service is excellent (even a custom pack only took 4 days), their prices low and their Gold Peak cells/batteries (at least the NiMH) are the best I have used so far particularly for sustained high power output! Regards Tony RMSA Colorado - Original Message - From: "Kent Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, October 05, 2005 10:56 AM Subject: [RCSE] Batteries?? I am looking for a good battery supplier for Tx, Rx and motor packs. I have been using batteriesamerica and have become totally disgusted in their service and attitude. I placed an order for four packs and some shrink tubing over a month and a half ago, called 6 different times and was basically shined on by everyone including the owner. BAD BAD. [RCSE] F3J landing technique
Hi At the US F3J team selections held last weekend in Denver, I heard for the first time, of a "special" landing technique that involves touching the ship's tail to the ground first to stop the clock, then flying on for a precision landing; presumably after the working time has ended! I was going to ask about this of some of the present pilots, but in the "rush" of scoring I forgot! So, if anyone has seen this, or better yet, can direct me to a video showing this technique, so I can get details, I would appreciate it!
