All of you that are complaining and sending it back or throwing it away
are you also sending back the coin that came with it. or are you all
just being hypocritical. If you really believe what you are saying
then also send back the coin
so that someone else that appreciates what the AMA is trying to do can receive
one with out having AMA spending more than they need. ( still not
saying that they
are going about this the right way but they are trying something and
something is
better than sitting on your hands doing nothing, If this doesn't work
I'm sure they'll thy something deferent.

DO include a postage paid return sticker if you want to return it, and will not

The next-to-last paragraph in the letter accompanying the AMA DVD states:
"Because you didn't ask for this special DVD, you don't have to participate
or send it back and you could consider it a free gift..."

Years ago (in the 1960s or 1970s?) it was a common scam to send unordered
merchandise - such as books or records (you all remember records?) - and
then demand payment if it was not returned. Laws were enacted which state
that the recipient has no obligation either to return or pay for unordered
merchandise.

Agreed, but what's exciting about watching a sailplane thermal at 1500'
to the uninitiated, or anyone? That's the perception.
3D power aerobatics close in, helicopters, and generally noisy stuff
gets all the attention.

But scale aerotowing on the otherhand, now that can get exciting, noisy
tow planes, high speed inverted passes with a 6 meter, glider aerobatics
finishing with a screaming high speed pass. Plus eye candy on the gound
without compare.
See
http://www.quietflyer.com/videos/JRAero2004/index.html

for video of the 2004 JR aerotow. Free, no $9.00 required.

Or go fly there next June yourself. The AMA doesn't know what they are
missing, and perhaps a suggestion might be in order.

2005-02-26 Thread Scott and Jennifer Martin
I received the set and watched the DVD. I intend to keep the DVD, but I
don't yet know if I'll participate in the program. The DVD was fairly
well produced, but filming of aircraft in flight was a bit shaky;
perhaps the videographer should have used a tripod-mounted camera.
Also, background noises and conversations during filming were
distracting and gave the DVD a less-than-professional look. Any amateur
videographer could have put this thing together.

The interesting part of the DVD was about RC jets. I hadn't seen or
heard them up to yesterday; it was quite interesting for me. I also
enjoyed the giant-scale segment. Beyond those two areas, the DVD wasn't
impressive; the most I'll say is that it was interesting. The series as
a whole might turn out to be worth something, but only time will tell.

Yes, and haven't watched it yet. Any reviews? I'm not too interested and

will probably send it back. I'm not sure if this is a direct AMA thing
or a "partner" relationship sponsored for the AMA and as such making a
profit for another company with the AMA getting a cut of the proceeds.

AMA is well worth the membership fee for these benefits. Dave Brown's concept
he explained in the last issue of MA about membership based on participation
and discipline of the hobby is an interesting concept to generate revenue.

The first DVD is $9 but how much are subsequent DVD's? I imagine they will be
a bit more expensive. From one RV aficionado to another, you're right, $9
bucks isn't much but the last thing I need is more distractions from pounding
rivets or cutting foam! :)

They are taking a risk.  You do not have to
return unsolicited mail.  They cannot obligate you in any way.  If
they say to return and say NO instead of send in a YES, and they continue to
send you material, you can keep or discard whatever they send you.  It all
depends on whether there is some small print on something you signed with AMA
saying that you would accept or like to receive offers from them.

AMA needs to know that this is not a good policy
and that they should send out a card first, before they send out a DVD.  Of
course, a DVD is cheap -- ask AOL  -- and in the long run it might be
cheaper than sending two mailings.  They should consider it a free sample
and not require return.   They should include a YES card and not a NO
card.  They should only send out the other volumes if they receive an order
request.

The letter enclosed said you could preview it, and if you want to continue
the subscription from month to month send $9, or slap the enclosed return
sticker on the DVD and return it, and keep the coin.

I agree they kind of obligated me by sending this out of the blue, but I
guess it's pretty easy to slap the sticker on the box and say NO if I want
to, and toss it in the mail box. The AMA sends me all kinds of stuff, I
just didn't know if anyone else was getting these or not. I tend to spend
a week of my vacation in Muncie on the AMA grounds, so I am not going to
get too upset about this. It's really no big deal, I was just curious.

It's somewhere between an educational piece and a safety piece by the AMA,

My only comment will be that there was a couple large scale pilots and jet

sure could use some landing practice... 8-) (made me giggle, yikes!)

Yes, and haven't watched it yet. Any reviews? I'm not too interested and
will probably send it back. I'm not sure if this is a direct AMA thing or
a "partner" relationship sponsored for the AMA and as such making a profit
for another company with the AMA getting a cut of the proceeds.
(Just looking for some feedback, too, and not interested in starting any
ruckus about the issue.)
