I can only drag an IMAP folder along its siblings, changing its
list position. I cannot actually move it into of out of another folder.

Here, this is only possible with a local (non-IMAP) folder and only
within one account. Maybe it is/was possible with POP accounts...

I believe this is too rare an operation for RIT to have implemented it.
You can recreate folder structure and drag letters there. Sorting
office rules can be cut'n'pasted too.

Reading confirmation prompt isn't shown when I delete the message

Hello TBBETA,

- set a box's reading confirmation settings to "put in outbox",
"prompt before the action"
- receive a message with reading confirmation
- select it, then delete it
=> reading confirmation prompt doesn't appear
- when you read the mesage and move to another, it does appear

Confirmations?

There's a directory named "Addressbook" in the archive. Its contents are a

While testing for Rick, I ran across another bug:

- create a virtual folder in IMAP account, specify only a local folder

CP-API.rtf gives an overview (you gonna need the the
TBP_SetCoreBridge() function ),
TheBatAPI.chm give a reference on data access API.

Plugins can now access TB's internal data. So it's only a matter of
time and effort to connect TB to anything.

However, the plugin interface specification is in Deplhi's include format
so one may have to dig for the undocumented details of the Deplhi's
proprietary ABI.

There's little they can do without being able to reproduce the problem.
Since only a few people w/o any specific setup experience this, it's
most probably a DB corruption issue.
(on the other hand, the fact that we can't diagnose/fix this ourselves
comes from the closeness of their DB format)

I suggest you to send them your base and/or recreate it from scratch.
Filters can be exported, a backup/wipe/restore might do the
trick too.

PluginAPI to access data? Now that's interesting. I thought there's
only API to implement AV and spam checks.

How is it to be accessed? TBPInterface.pas from

seems to declare a COM-based interface but I don't see any CLSIDs or

There's too small a niche for such an uncommon task so TB guys will
definitely not implement this. The polygraphy folk who do this on a regular
basis print everything as pictures - which is my suggested way for you

Printout contents is governed by the print template (Message->Print
setup...->Template). There, the text is inserted with the %TEXT macro.
How this macro extracts text from and HTML message is internal
details since it doesn't have any parameters of flavors.

This particular case and the general case of not printing backgrounds
is worth filing a bug IMO.

It's questionable whether the splash screen should be present with

Thunderbird is a multi-layered entity. There's a basic engine with an
interpreter and a plethora of XUL logic on top of it run by that
engine. This adds a great deal of flexibility and customizability - at
the cost of speed and resources.

FR: a macro for software edition

2012-11-30 Thread Ivan Pozdeev
Hello ,

See my signature. I use "Home" and don't specify this since this would
be hard-coding. Omitting this already caused a misunderstanding in one
case.

Something like %SOFTWARENAME expanding to "The Bat! Pro"/"The Bat!
Home Edition" of %SOFTWAREEDITION (the name part is unlikely to be
different ;) ) would solve this.

Confirmed.
* This seems to happen if the 1st line of a paragraph isn't
exactly 70 chars. Looks like on applying left align, TB considers
the paragraph to have an indent equal to the minimum distance before
the left edge and any of its lines.
If there's only one line, Alt-L does nothing for this reason.

Unchecking "Auto Indent" in Preferences->Editor preferences disables
this heuristics.

IMO this logic is quite controversial and it's better to remove it
and add indent/outdent functions instead, only leaving the current
behaviour for auto-wrapping while typing/pressing enter.

Sometimes, I wonder if my peers *actually read* the comments they reply
to.

I said that "the font hasn't glyphs for latin letters" (and everyone
knows that square is a placeholder glyph shown when a font
hasn't a glyph for a character).
Then I added that "if the font is NOT installed", the text renders correctly.
Which makes it pretty obvious that in this case, some other font is used instead.

Taking all this into account, a request for a "font substitution feature" looks somewhat... strange.

The most amazing thing, however, is that Stefan, an IT specialist, read it just the same way!

Then I don't understand what you're missing or trying to do. When you forward a message,
you get the usual message composition dialog with editable header fields.
In the "active" one, there appear buttons to the right (To: is "active" at the start):

Pressing the address book button in TO, CC or BCC invokes a "pick e-mail addresses" dialog which has tabs for all three of them in the right pane:

Line continuation in templates doesn't work

2012-11-11 Thread Ivan Pozdeev
Hello tbbeta,

The macros help section says the a dash character at the end of a line
makes TB ignore the line break (so you don't have to put multiple
macro assignments all on the same line). However, I had no success
in using it - it adds the dash character and the unwanted line
break instead.

The (reply) template I tried is this:
%TO=""-
%TO="%OFROMNAME <%OTOADDR>"-
%Quotes
%Cursor

Can anyone confirm?

A truly clean solution would be exporting existing filters in
human-readable form, checking they don't have anything strange in them, then
wiping everything connected with TB (including folders in "Application
data" and registry entries), reinstalling and recreating the
profile from scratch and importing the filters.
This guarantees that any internal inconsistencies in the database
that possibly cause the errors will be neutralized.

How in the world is it "potentially dangerous"? .eml is just a
raw representation of an email message as it was transferred via
SMTP. It is no worse than any other letter. .msg, being a binary
proprietary M$ format, is much more sinister in this regard.

You mean make the letter contain an image that's not embedded but is
to be downloaded from the Net? I didn't find a way either. And I doubt
its usefulness because the link can become invalid at any time so you
won't be able to see the complete message in the future.

I fixed such problems by recreating the account when moving to 5.x .
Must've been some differences in the base that new versions don't understand.
You might want to file your base to devs for then to check this.

Maybe. In any case, it's not for me to decide. This is all about all-in-one vs keep-it-simple tradeoff.

Meanwhile, http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.mail.the-bat.user/32428 suggests using a local SMTP server
that would forward a message according to whatever logic you program into it.
Python is ideal for this job since it has an SMTP proxy template in standard library.

From what I can see, it can't: TB executables don't reference either DHCP API or relevant registry keys.

The reason is most likely because providing SMTP server in DHCP options is a very uncommon setup.

Who knows what other information about your environment you will require? E.g.
IP may be not very descriptive, local domain or some other dhcp-provided
settings may characterize the network better. This way, it's best to provide a
way to run a custom script.

IMO, an ability to quickly select the 'active' server is good enough.

After uninstallation, removal of AddData\The Bat!\MAIL and registry key,
reinstallation of TB 4, recreating the mailbox and filters and upgrading back, filters work.
(I created MB from scratch - the messages were re-downloaded from the server

So, no idea how to troubleshoot this further without having source code. It could be anything.
Recreating the mailbox should help.

Filters aren't always used automatically

2011-12-11 Thread Ivan Pozdeev
Hello, tbbeta.

> very unhappy to start that postings again.but: IMAP Filters still
> broken and doesent work.

I imported the filters F.P. provided and, to my most surprise, discoveded that
incoming mail is filtered in one of my mailboxes and isn't in the other.
(i.e. filters are applied when re-filtering a folder but not on mail arrival).

"Don't use filters" is unchecked in both MBs, filters in question are on and
enabled for all folders.

The MB filters work at was copied from a TB v4.2.44 installation. The other
one remains from TB v5.0.24 from which I upgraded to beta by replacing
thebat.exe .

F.P.,
What we need is to find a way to reproduce this from a clean state
and tell it in a bug report.
Our other means to trace the issue (ex_log, protocol log) didn't
help me yet in this case.

I suspect the cause to be in base format differences/upgrade
procedures. After upgrading TB through a path developers didn't
anticipate (or through buggy versions), MB may have some internal
data in an invalid state that causes auto-filtering to fail/be
disabled regardless of settings.

Damn. I'm experiencing just this behaviour.
Responsiveness to user commands drops as a result 'cuz they can spend
several minutes in queue when there is background activity with
regular high-pri tasks like 'update folder counters (precise)'.
And yes, filtering performance, initially 4-5 times faster than
before, drops too. I managed to complete an SNES game (~1 hr) before
moving of ~1400 messages was done.

As I told earlier after performing investigation, your initial
suggestion to allow many clients to SELECT the same folder will work
in my case.

Checked using SecureCRT (it's trial yet better than nothing):
Exchange 2003 allows multiple clients to SELECT the same folder in RW
mode so the question is not applicable. Maxim's suggestion will do the
trick in my case.

Not sure if this is connected with F.P.'s issue of filtering 'not
working at all' (he didn't give details)... if you are, never mind.

If you're able to eliminate race conditions, fine.

I was going to suggest one of the following:

1) Use standard CLOSE command instead of UNSELECT if the user doesn't
object purging \Deleted (by selecting the default 'move to trash' as primary
deletion method, he/she
doesn't) and EXAMINE instead of SELECT whenever possible.
Maybe EXAMINE is even capable of removing a write lock from the
folder without leaving it.

2) Use and manage auxiliary 'temporary' folders to SELECT into. It's
possible to reliably use and manage them even if there are multiple TB
instances logged in (details are lengthy).

I was going to check whether EXAMINE removes folder lock in Exchange
2003 but wasn't able to find an SSL-capable terminal emulator.

Hello, F.P..

WFM. I only experience reconnections when using multiple IMAP connections
(https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=8955) and slowdown because of
that.

Perhaps your problem is limited to certian filter statements.
I only use string/regex matches and 'move' and 'mark as read' actions.
You may want to disable filters one-by-one too see which one is
causing problems.

Re: Cleaning Registry

2011-12-04 Thread Ivan Pozdeev
Hi, RS.

Filters and virtual folder settings reside in mailbox rather than
registry. I think you can use backup/restore function.

Settings that do reside in registry are kept in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT .

Hello, Maxim.

Correct. While filtering a big folder, the bat reconnects to server many times
but now it does this the normal way.
