Anti-virus plugins

2001-12-27 Thread Peter Adams

tbudl...

What Anti-virus software works with the AV section of The Bat? ie what
can I use? I've been using AVX pro (Dow BitDefender) here and can't see
how I would use it to check my incoming emails.

Sorry, I'm wrong. Wasn't reading it clearly. It says "User Guide",
which probably doesn't necessarily mean an actual manual.

Yeah, i can see the point of it but like Peter says it only works if
everyone uses it.

Useless Desire #1

2001-12-21 Thread Peter Adams

tbudl...

I used to own a miggy. Wouldn't surprise me if others hered did to.
so far I've found most Bat users seemed to come over from Fido
also... anyway i used Yam which had an interesting but semi-useless
thing where it would load some address book info for the writer of
the currently viewed message if it existed including a picture and
view it in the header of the message. Foiund it kinda funky to have
this little passport photo along with the mails from my friends or
people in close lists.

I'm aware The Bat can do this with the address-auto view but I think
it'd be pretty cool to have it docked in some way or included in the
header. Currently when viewing a message 1/2 to 2/3 of the header
bar is empty. A little info in there would be cool...

Yes, it's a bit drastic. Akin to mining my drive to keep out
salesmen etc... I only use it on my personal mail address and I did
have to take Yahoo off because I have a couple of friends who use
it but the others... I only know one person who uses hotmail and
that's my ex-girlfriend so I'm not missing much there. Personaly
don't know of ANYONE who uses excite. To my knowledge it's soley
used by spam merchants.

At the moment I'm sending one message a day at least to the yahoo
abuse center. It's annoying.

Not in this version. I'll probably need to register first.

Not accident, incompetence. I've been told this before, but for some
reason didn't fix it. :)

Head up to the Menu and select Sorting Office / Filters under the
Account menu. Pick Selective download and hit New. From there you
can configure stuff you don't want to download. From the advanced
tab you can chose to ignore the mail or kill the mail. That way The
Bat will delete that stuff from the server and not even bother
downloading it.

For what it's worth to people here I found a way to cut my incoming
spam by 90% with The Bat! alone.

I put yahoo.com, excite.com & hotmail.com in my selective download
filter. Now I almost never get spam. Simple.
