RE: [TMIC] Swollen Hands

2007-10-15 Thread Bob and Sue Mattis
Deana,
My TM did not affect my hands, however, I would say that eventhough your
local emergency room might not "have a clue" in regards to a TM issue, I
believe that is your best response if doctors are otherwise not
available. It's possible it's a problem not related to his TM, and
swelling, heat and redness should not be ignored regardless of the
origin. Let us know how you make out.

I've been checking in to see what's going on too!

I had my annual neuro appt last week and have to say he sure is interested
in the amount of pain I deal with. Last year my Neuro gave me samples of
Lyrica that I never took due to various posts from others and the cost that
I will incur if I can't get samples. So this is the route he would like me
to take:

   1. replace my 2400mg of daily gabapenton with 75mg twice daily

   2. increase 60mg Cymbalta to 90mg for 2 weeks, then to 120mg daily

   3. increase Baclofen from 10mg every 6 hours to to every 4 to 5 hrs

   4. Take 5mg Valium if needed on a rare basis

I know this is a lot of changes, however, I'm going to do them one step at a
time.

I decided to take the plunge and try the Lyrica immediately. Literally! My
Neuro assured me again that I could switch from the gabapentin to the Lyrica
without any effects so I did it that evening and the change went fine. I
had a slight headache for about 1/2 hour for the first 3 doses and that was
the only side effect. I just went thru the big weather change from 90
degrees to a 50 degree with rain and tolerated it better than I could have
imagined. I'm not out of pain, but I'm not ready to cut my leg off either.

I have taken the Baclofen often than at 6 hours twice and it helps to know
that I can take them as soon as my back muscles start to spasm. That is a
big relief.

Now, specifically for those of you who take CymbaltaIs ther a time of
day to take it that works better for you? I asked my Neuro if it mattered
and his answer was not unless it keeps you awake. I don't have trouble
falling asleep, just staying asleep. I wonder if the Cymbalta is the
culprit.

My Neuro also wrote me an RX for a walker so I can walk distances without
the muscle spasms. I paid attention to the questions and answers recently
so I think I have that covered.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments on my news?

but I tried Cymbalta also and also felt like my heart was going to bounce out
of my chest. I would be careful with Cymbalta if I had any doubt about having
heart problems. I liked the feeling Cymbalta gave me but didn't like the heart
racing,I guess that makes sense. It may be a compound drug and one part of it
makes your heart race. Zoloft works for me. Thanks Rick. Hey everybody I'm

Hi Dee
I love your e mail name! Welcome to the TMIC group. We're glad to have you with
us, however, sorry about the circumstances that brought you here. As you can
imagine by the recent posts there is usually more going on whether it is
requests for help and hope or something that gets us laughing and quipping. We
learn from new TMers and oldies alike since our doctors try different
combinations of meds and therapies. Step right in and tell us about yourself.
It seems like the "old TMers" are gritting their teeth right now. The big
weather changes get to a lot of us. Michigan just had record breaking heat
and humidity in the 90's. This was followed by drops to just above freezing.
Many of us have a temperature range where we function our best. Anything
higher or lower causes us additional discomfort and we get quiet. That's why
we're all asking where everyone is - we just want to know if you quiet because
you're busy or because you're gritting your teeth! Again, Welcome!

C'MON, GIVE IT UP...
MAKE IT UP IF YOU HAVE TO
I HAPPEN TO KNOW THREE PERSONS
WHO LIVE QUITE LIVELY
PRETEND FANTASY LIVES
SPANNING THE GLOBE,
GOING BACK AND FORTH IN TIME...

hey, it cuts the boredom
and
adds a bit of spice to this life

make it a priority to get to know
all of the TM'ers
in your State...

gotta' run,
J
