Re: [TMIC] gel cushion

2008-02-26 Thread Balmatmic
Thanks for all of your responses. There were too many to answer separately,
so am sending one mass email, and hope nobody is offended by not getting a
personal one. I think there may be some others who may be interested in this
info as well.

I am sorry but I should have said that I needed the cushion not for
wheelchair sitting, but for computer or other chair sitting. When I sit for
any
length of time, my back and buttocks become very sore. Although I don't see
how
it should bother my buttocks as I have plenty of padding there :( , it does!
I have a foam cushion for my wheelchair that I use for distance or if my
body is very tired and it doesn't seem to give me the pain issues. I also had
a foam cushion like the one that I showed the link to, which was fine while
it lasted, but kind of broke up fairly quickly. One of those TV purchases,
it had a handle on it and it was on a slant, but the same configuration as
this. I saw this and figured this may be a good solution for others as well.

This cushion can be useful for anyone who does a lot of sitting.

As always, this group is a great resource of information and it's great that
we can bounce things off each other like this.

Hugs to all, Barbara A

After having a gel cushion turn into a hard rock and a foam cushion
just flatten, I decided to put my money where my butt was - and to
avoid pressure sores - and get a good one. I now have a Supracor
Stimulite honeycomb style. I had the first one 3 years and it was
still good when I had to move to a different sized chair. The new
one is just as good after a year. It is not a soft cushion. It is
formed to your physical parameters so you get support in some areas
and lifts you around in other areas so you have a much less chance
of getting sores. It is expensive but cheaper in the long run
considering the other two failed and ended up costing me more than
one supracor. I am in my chair 20 hours or more a day.

This looks good, but doesn't seem thick enough. I am not in a
wheelchair, but I need a cushion on my steno chair to raise me up a
bit for the computer. Since I am heavy (262#), every cushion I have
tried, no matter what it says on the box, just smashes flat like a
pancake under me. The only ones that don't squash are hard
uncomfortable kapock or whatever, and they give me a numb bum! Has
anybody found anything this is really comfortable and yet doesn't
squash flat when you sit on it?

thanks, Michelle

[TMIC] OT? - Women & Shoes

2008-02-26 Thread CANDIS KALLEY

I just have to pass this on in case some of you girls might be interested.

I had found a couple of pair of slip on shoes on sale BUT I couldn't wear them
because I drag my R foot and the shoe kept coming off.  Well, I was determined
to wear something that was famine and dressy looking so I really wanted to wear
the red polka dot slip-ons .  Well, I got some Velcro and some Velcro glue plus
some red polka dot ribbon and glued the Velcro to the shoes and the ribbon.
Presto - a decent looking pair of shoes.  My neighbor came over and asked where
I had gotten them!  With the ribbon strap the R shoe stays on!  Yeah!

Normally I wear Air Step T-strap shoes.  Doable for everyday, but hard to find
and expensive especially when the R shoe goes way before the L shoe.  I got Dr.
Leonard's catalog today and found practically the same thing except these in
the catalog are material where my Air Steps are a "leather" and about 1/3 of
what I usually pay for the Air Step on sale.  If any of you girls are
interested in the catalog # is 66625 and you can order on line at http :// www
. drleonards .com/ .

Prayers and thoughts for you and yours,

Candy K.

Gerry,

My name is Frank. I was afflicted with TM in 2000. I, too, have pain from
my shoulders down, along with cramps and left side weakness. I also have
the cold/ hot thing going on, especially on my left side. I was poorly
treated for the first year, then found Dr. Douglass Kerr at Johns hopkins
in baltimore. He changed my meds. Along the way I found the pain clinic
at the Montreal General Hospital where Dr. Mark Ware is my pain doctor. He
put me on Sativex- a cannabinoid spray, actually better than cannabis
bought on the street, plus it's legal in Canada and the U.S.. I take it
twice a day with excellent results. It lasts 8 hours! I also take
Nortriptyline, Dextromethorphan, Phenobarbital and other meds for various
secondary conditions.

I live part time in Montreal with my girl-friend, and part-time in Freeport
Maine. I just bought an Co-op apartment here in Montreal, across the
street from my girl-friend's house. We plan to rent out here home and
basement apartment, and live in my apartment. That way she'll have money
coming in and less up-keep than her townhouse. I was 15 month's retired
when struck with TM.

Take care

[TMIC] e-mails

2008-02-26 Thread robthecfo
I really have no problem with the occasional joke, but it seems that once again
e mails that are really just chat that does not effect the group as a whole
have become much more numerous. I don't want to seem cold...but I don't care
about the weather, your religion, or anything else that is not TM related. I
cannot understand why these e mails are not just sent to the person? they wish
to address. As far as I am concerned this list is supposed to contain
information, and questions regarding TM and how we deal with it. I once again
am spending far too much time deleting "junk e mail".
Can we just try to make this site strictly TM related?

Just my opinion ( I am not looking to unsubscribe)

Sounds like you're close enough to wave but I can't find Ste G on any map.
Are you near Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue?

St G must be huge (giggling here) !
