Lynn, what is the name of that new gel you are talking about? Linda,
it sounds like she uses the Johnson's oil and then the new Johnson's bedtime
touch massage gel. Sure sounds like a whole lot of us have this same problem!

Oh boy a big Thank You to you Lynn. I use baby powder on my feet and
legs when I get out of the shower and it helps for a while. I've never thought
of baby oil, but I can see where it could make a difference too. Sometimes I
rub lotion on my legs and it also helps with the burning/cold, for a while at
least.

Hugs, Linda

I have hit on something I have to share with all of you.
After my shower yesterday I rubbed my feet and legs with Johnson's
Baby Oil...and then with a new product they've come out with
Johnson's bedtime touch massage gel.
Wow..! What a difference in my skin this morning!
I'll be hitting the baby aisle more often when shopping.

One thing that I have noticed is that if I talk out loud when I walk, I do
a WHOLE lot better. I can walk but most often have to watch my feet but if
I say out loud, "Walk, walk, walk..." I instantly can walk smoother and so
much better. It's like Frank says, it all has to do with the messages
coming from our brains down to where we need them.

Hey all,

TM affects the spinal cord which is full of nerves. Some of the nerves carry
sensation, some carry motor signals that make the muscles contract, bones to
move, aim my finger at the keyboard and make sure that my finger lands on
the right key. There are also nerves that control the flow of blood in our
hands, feet, skin, everywhere in our bodies. All these nerves get messed up
with the damage to the spinal cord so we get cold, or hot feet /hands,
swelling where there shouldn't be any, lack or profuse sweating. I could go
on...

I was able to visit with Jude Thursday afternoon (about two hours) and
maybe I tired her out, but we sure had a good visit. It was a sunny first-
day-of Spring in Michigan and I wanted to share it with her. Shame on me, I
visited unannounced.
I caught her on her lap-top writing to Phranque and asked her to wish him a
Happy Spring from me. Jude doesn't have any addresses due to the work that
was done on her computer so she asked that everyone send her a note so she
can update her address book. She likely has sent the request herself - I
haven't been on the computer since our visit.

The bad news is that she won't be going home at the end of March as she had
hoped. The good news is she survived a flu bug that hit her in the worst
way on Wednesday.

Jude has "seniority" in her two-bed room so she was able to be moved near
the window where the sun was streaming in at full force. The window
overlooks a courtyard and she will be able to see people coming and going
this spring and summer. I hope I'll be able to go out there with her soon
and watch her manuever her power-chair. When I visited Jude a couple months
ago she was sitting in her chair 15 minutes at a time. She said she can now
go up to two hours. There seems to be improvement in that area.

Jude is grateful for the phone call that Gunny made to the nursing home
administration on her behalf, because she began receiving better care
immediately. I witnessed the staff helping her reposition herself and
wished I could share some of my movement with her. TM sure isn't fair is
it!

She had the cards that she received displayed as well as a tin from the
home-made biscotti that Alton sent. She appreciated all of your well-wishes

I'm looking forward to our next visit with Jude.

Patti - Happy Easter to everyone from Michigan - no, make that from ME!

2008-03-22 Thread Carol
Yes, how true this is. I didn't lift my foot high enough one day, caught my
toes on the carpet, and BAM! broke my foot. I had just gotten of a week of
outpatient IV prednisone a couple weeks before this incident. BUT, if you have
decreased movement due to swelling in your spine, this might be the best way to
go. I just know I don't want to be on it as a means for continuous treatment.
It also made me CRAZY!

My neuro doesn't want me on prednisone because of osteoperosis. It is not
good for the bones.
