There is a little girl named Rachel with TM whose mom used to be on here.
Her brothers started a Reading For Rachel program. the web site is here
which includes a video of Rachel:http://www.readingforrachel.org/ She's 9
years old now and contracted TM when she was less than a year.

There is a family camp coming up in August for children with TM:

The TM Message forums have one forum for children with TM and another for
teens with TM:
http://www.myelitis.org/forum/

There is a little boy named Cole whose parents, I believe, are Neil and
Wendy (hope I have that right!) Maybe they'll see this. In fact, I think I
ll change the subject to Children with TM so that hopefully they will.
Photos of him are here:

Hope that helps!

Re: [TMIC] OT- The Numbers-OT

2009-01-14 Thread Balmatmic
Crowds..

I'm sorry, but for anyone with a mobility issue, being in a crowd can be a
nightmare. Even if you are in a chair! If you walk, you get bumped around,
and then you have to worry about balance issues. Sorry, but falling into
somebody I don't know, and then landing on the dirty ground doesn't seem like
fun. If in a chair, you see way too many butts, don't want to even think
about
how many butts you'd be looking at.

So, if you really want to see the Inauguration, it will be on TV, where you
can be nice and warm, have your snacks and drinks at your side, and your very
own clean bathroom. If you want a crowd, you can have a party or go to one!

That's my take! The only crowd that I purposely get involved in is when I
decide to go to Disneyland or DisneyWorld. Otherwise, I avoid them like the
plague.

Take care and stay warm. Hugs to all, Barbara A

Therefore: 400 people to one potty

The average "visitation" to a potty takes 4 minutes

Therefore: 1600 minutes for everyone to go once

So 1600 minutes divided by 60 minutes in an hour: 26.6 hours for everyone
to "visit" once.

I don't think I'm going

Oh, Mary Anne, maybe this is exactly what she needs! If she can help a
little girl that is even younger than her, it may help her feel better about
what is going on! This would be so wonderful.

How is your little girl? I just cannot imagine having this happen to little
ones. They are so helpless and can't tell you what hurts and it truly does
hurt. Thank you so very much for offering your help. I'm waiting for an
answer from Sophie's mom and if it works right, I will be forwarding all of
the wonderful e-mails I've received. Thank you, again! Jeanne in Dayton,

Hi Jeanne,
I don't have the information readily available, but you might want to
contact Jeanne Hamilton in Illinois (she is in the TMA Membership Directory)
There are several parents of children with TM who are available for help.
Due to her age and privacy issues, we do not have any groups specifically
for children, but for the parents of children. There is a parents support
group that you can find at the website at www.myelitis.org under "support
groups".

She definitely needs to sign up for the Victory Junction Children's and
Family Camp this summer!! Please, if you can send me her information I will
contact the Mom to discuss this with her. She will meet others who are her
age (and older), as well as Dr. Kerr, Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Pidcock, who will
be at the camp. And it is absolutely free to attend for the children and
the families (this includes any siblings she has). The only cost is the
travel expense to get there.

Please let me know how I can help.
Take care,
Debbie

Hi Jeanne,

There are 2 children that I’ve become close to in the last few years. There
is Cole Ross from Canada (neilandwe...@rogers.com) who’s parents are Neil
and Wendy. He developed TM as an infant and I believe is 10 or 11 now.
Also there is Maria Hoge from Pennsylvania (ho...@msn.com) who’s parents are
Pam and Morgan. Pam and I are co-chair for the PA support group. Maria
also was struck as an infant and is now I believe also around 9, 10etc.
Pam is a nurse and is so knowledgeable about all the care involved for a
child with TM. Wendy is also what I consider an expert on the subject as
she has been the primary caregiver for Cole as well. I would think either
child would relate well, but probably Maria would be a little more receptive
to an on-line, phone, or snailmail relationship with another. You know how
“boys” are. But either way, I would contact the parents and see what you
could set up. I know there is another child (Rachael) that the Reading for
Rachael program is for on the TM website, but I don’t know the family
personally. Hope this helps!

[TMIC] Elder's Meditation of the Day - January 14

2009-01-14 Thread Jan Hargrove
I thought I would share today's meditation with you, as I think it speaks to
what we're all about here on the tmicjanh

Elder's Meditation of the Day - January 14

"It is a native tradition to sit in a circle and talk-to share what is in your
heart."

--John Peters (Slow Turtle), WAMPANOAG

The talking circle is also a listening circle. The talking circle allows one
person to talk at a time for as long as they need to talk. So much can be
gained by listening. Is it a coincidence that the Creator gave us one mouth and
two ears? The power of the circle allows the heart to be shared with each
other. What we share with each other also heals each other. When we talk about
our pain in the circle, it is distributed to the circle, and we are free of the
pain. The talking circle works because when the people form a circle, the Great
Mystery is in the center.
My Creator, give me the courage to share, and the courage to listen.
