Re: [TMIC] OT... Been there, saw the potties!

2009-01-18 Thread Lawrence King
I just returned from the mall, Crawled under the stage used in
yesterdays concert to visit the Lincoln Memorial a few days ago after
seeing my father in law buried at Arlington National Cemetery. I am
back home in Ohio but I almost wish we could have stayed. I have
been visiting the D.C. area for 25 years and this is the first time I
recall the residents polite, helpful and friendly. I am walking
wounded and 5 days of viewings, funeral, and then site seeing in
frigid temperatures proved to me what I am still made of inspite of
CPS from the chest down.

And Frank, I'm guessing folks will be in and out in 2 minutes... who
wants to pee in a refrigerator!!

Dear Gang,

Well, As you know, I received my invitation from the Inaugural
Committee a while ago, then I learned about the numbers:

Approx.. 2,000,000 people

Approx.. 5,000 porta potties

Therefore: 400 people to one potty

The average "visitation" to a potty takes 4 minutes

Therefore: 1600 minutes for everyone to go once

So 1600 minutes divided by 60 minutes in an hour: 26.6 hours for
everyone to "visit" once.

I don't think I'm going

Regina, my dr recommended Lactulose. It is a thick liquid (like cough syrup) &
tastes of oranges. It is mild but it works for me every time & within about 8
hrs. I don't need to use as often as in the early days of TM but I wouldn't be
without it. Where I live, it is not sold on the shelf but behind the pharmacy
desk.

Years ago, the doctor prescribed LACTULOSE to my mother after she had a
stroke leaving her with major problems including a horrible case of
constipation. He said that it doesn't irritate your bowels.

Wondering if any of you even heard of it.

Kevin, I would like to hear more about the herb you recommend.

I am affected up to my collarbone and it has affected my digestion. Regular
fiber has the opportunity to move so slowly through me it dries up and creates
a plug that becomes very dangerous. You can have a piece of your intestine die
and it will kill you quicker than you can believe. I use reglan
(metoclopramide) to help my stomach empty. I use Miralax aka glycolax but now
generic (polyethylene glycol 3350) to move things through the pipe. It is not
fiber, it is not absorbed by the body, it just slicks things along. You do
have to adjust it as you get used to it so you don't have a blowout, but I just
figured out how much to take depending on how much food I eat and it works
great. I've been on this for about four or five years. I tried the other
treatments and had so much trouble with cramps, lack of action and variability
that this has been a dream for me. Best of luck.

Re: [TMIC] OT: Vagus nerve questions.

2009-01-18 Thread jrushton
I'm very aware of the Vagus nerve issues since I've dealt with it since I
was 12 years old. It is an issue I worry about especially as I've grown
older and have a heart issue.

One of the issues I've had all along with TM is an occasional bladder
incontinence but with that my bowel stimuli nerve just quit working. They
gave me a tremendous amount of different types pills in ICU to help me nave
a BM and all that did was make me horribly nauseous and bending over in pain
They would physically haul me out of bed to the bed side pottie and I
would sit and sit, trying my best to push to where I would just be sopping
wet from sweat. Nothing, so they would haul me back onto the bed and then
the explosion would happen. It was horrible. Then they did the exact same
thing in Rehab for two weeks. The day I got home I took the herb tabs I've
used for years and the very next morning things were perfect. There is no
nausea nor cramping and no uncontrollable 'explosion'. Now, that is how it
works for me but it seems to work pretty much across the board with so many
people that use it and my provider and GI doctor seem to think it is an
ideal thing for those of us with chronic constipation. If you want to know
more, e-mail me personally and I'll tell you about it since I've become a
distributor in order to get a discount on it. I couldn't live without it
and am so thankful it's even available and this is after literally years of
trying every imaginable thing from the pharmacy. Sorry for all of the
yakking, everyone...

I hope your mom is doing well, Kevin. I'm thankful you still have her..

My mom collapsed again today, apparently straining when going to the
bathroom
is putting pressure on her Vagus nerve, and causes this blacking out. She
was ok by the time the paramedics came..and she has had complete physicals
recently that didn't show anything bad. She does take medication for
high BP,
and her BP has been good..110 to 120 over 60. She takes Senna to keep
from getting constipated, as well as eating oatmeal and prune juice.

Has anyone else experienced Vagus nerve issues? I know avoiding straining
is key.

Thanks,
Kevin

I would agree. She may be on too much medication, or the wrong medication.

I would suggest she wear a 24 hr blood pressure monitor. No one should black
out having a BM.

Good luck
