RE: [TMIC] Re: Provigil for TM?

2012-07-19 Thread Deb Monteleone
Hey Dalton,

When I first went back to work under all the medications it was horrible.
Was falling asleep driving, had to pay 150% to any and all tasks and after
about two sentences talking with someone I would fade out. Thought I would
not be able to work.

My support group mentioned Provigil so asked my Neurologist. He wanted me
to try Nuvigil, some trouble with insurance but they said yes and that was
about 2 + years ago.

What a difference it made pretty much immediately. Now I drive like my old
self, looking around, changing lanes and no drowsiness. At work, oh my, I
could carry on conversations, mostly follow in meetings and be able to do
things like program macros using VB. It was like day and night. I do take
Klonopin and Cymbalta at night so it doesn't really affect my sleep.

I hope you will be able to try it.

Make it a great day,

Deb

Fellow sufferers;

Have any of you heard of Provigil? Used for narcolepsy, it has found use by
MS patients to counter the extreme fatigue common with MS; and our situation
is often similar in some respects.

I get this fatigue, sometimes so bad that I stumble from lunch, slurring my

Would Provigil be useful??

Thank you very much for these articles.

I have found a place online that sells 200mg pro vigil for around
$1.56/pill. Any interest? Because I have no insurance and am paying around
$6.00/day for my medications already (let's see how Keppra works to control
my seizures!).

Best,

I  was dx with TM 2004 & used Provigil for extreme fatigue.  Took the med about
6 months & it helped, but stopped because of bad side effects.  I could not
sleep more than 2-3 hours a night because it kept me awake & it really made me
foggy in thinking.  Nothing has really helped since.  Just try to pace myself,
avoid going out in the heat, & some days just have to live in my recliner when
fatigue is very bad.

to take for a while to feel the effect and did not leave me jittery as

Hi - I am new to the group. Diagnosed with TM in 2010 and struggle with
extreme fatigue. I have used Provigil and Nuvigil for the last year. The
medication gives me a better quality of life. I still have fatigue, but it
does help me make it through the day. The only struggle I have had is with
insurance. They are very hesitant to pay, because it is a very expensive
medication. I finally got it approved, but it took a while.

Good luck

I have used provigil in the past for sleepiness, I have sleep apnea
as well as TM, it worked okay for a while and then I couldn't tell. I
use it occasionally if I need to drive more than 30 minutes. It is a
CNS stimulant and I can't believe the press it is getting for non
specified use. The drug companies are little different from the guy on
the street selling speed and the ABC report makes it sound like such a
great thinginstead of a drug they haven't studied much. Sue
