[TMIC] your thoughts?

2008-12-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Dear fellow TMers,

I have been asked by Barack Obama to give input to Tom Daschle concerning
Health Care Reform. I in-turn am asking the smartest of my family, friends and
acquaintances to give me input.

If you have time, please email me your thoughts. There is no rush. I realize
that this is a very busy time of the year, so ponder ways to change the current
system, or better yet dream of the "perfect" health care. And email me after
the holidays. This is not a paid position, so it should not be a top priority,
and if you don't have the time, or don't care, that's ok too.

I find myself in this position due to donating to the Obama campaign, then
answering a boiler plate email asking for suggestions.

take care,

Frank

Many gain abdominal girth while on cortisone/prednisone, or soon after. The
bloat is secondary to the cortisone which causes increases in the lipoid cells.
This results in weight gain, increase in blood pressure, borderline diabetes,
and hyperlipidemia ( increased cholesterol or triglycerides). This group has
been named the Metabolic Syndrome.

I was attacked by this beast several years ago, but decided to go on vacation
to mexico, the change in diet, increased activity made my diabetes,
hypertension, weight and lipids go down.

My suggestion: When given a new diagnosis, go on VACATION !!!

The Benefactor of the Ball
Va. Man Spends $1 Million on Inaugural Package for Disadvantaged
By Michael E. Ruane
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, December 4, 2008; A01

It was billed as the biggest, most eye-popping of the inauguration hotel
packages: the JW Marriott's $1 million "build-your-own-ball" offer. You get 300
rooms, four suites, $200,000 worth of food and drink, and a primo site
overlooking the Pennsylvania Avenue parade route.

And it was snapped up within hours of Barack Obama's election as president by a
customer the hotel declined to identify.

This morning, the Marriott is scheduled to announce that the buyer is a
Virginia businessman who wants to bring to the inauguration disadvantaged
people, terminally ill patients, wounded soldiers and others down on their luck.

Earl W. Stafford, 60, of Fairfax County, the founder of a Centreville
technology company who grew up as one of 12 children of a Baptist minister,
said he will provide his guests lodging, food and special access, as well as
beauticians, gowns and tuxedos, if necessary.

Stafford has paid the $1 million, a spokesman said, and is prepared to spend
$600,000 more for a breakfast, a luncheon and two balls at the hotel. Stafford
said he hopes to recoup some of the $600,000 from other sponsors, yet to be
recruited.

"We wanted to . . . bless those who otherwise wouldn't have an opportunity to
be a part of the great celebration, the inauguration and the festivities," he
said in an interview yesterday. "Our objective is to bring in a cross-section
of society -- those who are distressed, those who are terminally ill, those who
are socially and economically disadvantaged, those veterans who are wounded and
served our country."

Stafford said the idea was inspired by his deep religious faith and the good
fortune that has come his way. The inauguration is an opportunity to remember
the less fortunate and remind the country of its traditions of benevolence, he
said.

Dear Jude,

my temperature system is cattywhompus too. my left side ( hand, arm, thorax,
leg and foot) go from too cold to too warm. I have increased blood flow in my
left hand so much so that my fingernails grow twice as fast as on my right

I cannot believe how much discussion this topic has yielded. This is not
that difficultsimply do not discuss non TM matters with the group. I
have no problem with a member discussing spiritualiy as a form of coping
with our condition...simply leave out religion, politics, jokes etc.
from the site. These are topics you can share with specific
members...but not to the entire list. We should always consider how a
new member looking for information will respond to non TM issues. We
have had numerous cases of members unsubscribing due to these emails. The
so called dirty topics are certainly not "dirty"...but simply
problems
related to the condition and do not need to be labeled "mature". All
we
must do is stay on topic and use common sense.

And Mature (Adult) matters such as lack of sex, too much sex, trouble
recharging batteries, erectile dysfunction- which has it's own (ED)-

Let us pick MM (Mature Matures).

Requesting prayers and praying for one another is the humanly response.  We all

believe in a "higher power" which I call GOD.
I vote for anyone requesting prayers, directly or thru other members, should be

Did anyone happen to watch Primetime: Medical Mysteries last night.
They talked about surfer's neuropathy.  When surfing in Hawaii.  Where the
person on the surf board would bend their back upward and pinch the nerve in
the spinal cord.  They wouldn't be able to walk once they got back to the beach.
The summer before I was hit with  a lesion/TM @ T-4 to T-8.  I have always said
that it started the end of the summer of 2001 after boogie boarding at the
beach in Corpus Christi, TX.  I wanted to go back out, because it would be the
last chance I would have for the summer, but my back hurt, my legs where
wobble, and I was very tried, and we where going back home to Austin, TX.
I was 38 years old and didn't think I was getting too OLD.
At age 5, I fail off a slide head first and broke the right arm and pulled
muscles in the ofter arm.  Getting HIV+ in Sept. 7, 1989.  Then the boogie
board in the late summer of 2001.  Then TM in April 1, 2002.
Has anyone else heard about this and/or was surfing before TM?

Robert,

Try finding a new profession.

Before I finished being a Family Practitioner in 1999, I was learning how to
be a writer, then started submitting articles to magazines, then was befriended
by a woman who hardly knew me- She turned out to my editor. She'd been reading
my articles. I wrote well, but just needed a little bit of help. She would
rewrite my articles, then send them back to me. I'd study the changes she
made, then rewrite the article again. The first time we did this that document
attached to our e-mail went back and forth 12 times, then OK'd, and published.
I received a check for $1000. I was hooked, plus I'd found a way to continue
practicing medicine the way I wanted, not what the insurance co. wanted. I
found that the insurance problems were just too much, and that writing articles
for women's magazines paid better, and no-one ever called me up in the middle
of the night to complain about the latest sexual position, I'd written about in
the issue she'd purchased at the grocery store t!
 hat afternoon.

Maybe you can't write. How about a real Estate broker license? Or doing deed
searches for law firms? Or Selling Insurance? Or if you want something even
better... AMWAY!! Don't Laugh

Amway is a pretty unique company. I did Amway for about 5 years while building
my practice. A patient showed me the plan. I worked his plan and made lots of
money. It made the difference in the quality of home we had, the location of
our winter vacation. I actually recruited several other physicians. My
patient (Sponsor) is still doing Amway, but lives in a small mansion outside
San Diego, works 15 hrs a week and earns $300,000 a year.

So, Change how you earn your money

Good Luck- Look in the white pages under AMWAY

Rob,

I was afflicted with TM in 2000. Recently I began having new symptoms and
increased pain during the "Medication Valleys". I went for an MRI which showed
a cinching in at the level of my lesion (C5). The demyelination was followed
by scarring, and the scarring contracted causing the indentation around the
spinal cord. This took eight years to occure as the previous yearly MRI's
didn't shown any cinching.

Now the question is does someone operate?? I think Not!!

year for me.My son had a mental breakdown,my youngest daughter was getting a

hospital's respiratory care unit.
I was exhausted from work and visiting my son daily for the approximately 2
months he was in a locked ward in our local VA hospital.
But the docs said in the end it was a "virus" that attacked my spinal
cord.I was told by another doc years earlier "when drs. don't know what the
problem is they blame it on a virus, and no one can prove or disprove
it".(Except for the obvious ones like GBS)

Hi,

My name is Frank. I was afflicted with TM in 2000. I was given Predisone when
I was first treated- They started with a big dose (120 mg) then tapered down to
0mg over three weeks, and that was all I got.

Prednisone is a nasty cortisone. You shouldn't be using as needed, it will
mess up your whole body, causing high blood pressure, adrenal failure, bleeding
ulcers...I could go on.

Stop the Prednisone, and find a neurologist who know how to treat TM

Hey all,

TM affects the spinal cord which is full of nerves. Some of the nerves carry
sensation, some carry motor signals that make the muscles contract, bones to
move, aim my finger at the keyboard and make sure that my finger lands on the
right key. There are also nerves that control the flow of blood in our hands,
feet, skin, everywhere in our bodies. All these nerves get messed up with the
damage to the spinal cord so we get cold, or hot feet /hands, swelling where
there shouldn't be any, lack or profuse sweating. I could go on...

Did I mention that I've been getting Lidocaine infusions every 4 to 6 weeks for
the past year?

The infusions are done as an outpatient. I go in take off the shirt and they
put EKG leads on me and start an IV, then drip in 2 to 3 mg per Kg of a dilute
solution of Lidocaine- the whole procedure takes about an hour- then I get
dressed and leave.

The infusions decrease my overall pain so I need less of other meds, have fewer
"Bad days", and just feel "Better."

The idea came from Dr. Christine Sang at Harvard.

Has anyone else tried Lidocaine infusions??

There are articles dealing with MS that show that the side effects can and do
shorten the patients life.

For instance, my TM, in and of itself, will not shorten my life, but the
chronic pain will. Many people who have chronic pain commit suicide. Don't
worry, I promise not to kill myself till next Friday.

Before TM, I rode a bicycle, cross country skied, sailed competitively, climbed
small mountains, etc, TM stopped all those exercises, so I gained weight and
got "The Metabolic Syndrome": Hypertension, Borderline diabetes, obesity and
hyperlipidemia. They all reduce my life span, plus the lipitor pill caused
Gout.

My sensitivity to cold sends me south for periods of time each winter. There
are many more diseases to the south: Mexico, Costa Rica.

I get cranky a lot, complain to my girl-friend, and she threatens to plug me
with her 12 gauge, if I don't shut my trap

I'm just a time-bomb waiting to happen ! !

So, Think about how TM will indirectly shorten your life

couple of months!
But first I want to thank everyone for all the comments and replies that have
helped me to 'hang in there' and at least have an idea of what to expect and
how to best deal with this great adventure called TM.
I'm still gaining ground after 2 1/2 years - just recently I'm actually feeling
the muscles in my previously paralyzed leg - and now realize that it's no
wonder I couldn't walk better, sooner, as I couldn't even feel my muscles, much
less use them! :) On the other hand, my much overused left leg is still
apparently dealing with some inflammation from the over-use and resultant
piriformis syndrome causing sciatica pain! But I'm sure part of the pain is
also the typical burning caused by the neuropathic pain, so it's confusing to
know just what to do.
But anyway, I wanted to thank everyone and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
I'll rejoin you sometime next year when I get re-settled.
Love to you all,
Sally

If anyone's looking for a good SSDI attorney, I've been really happy with mine.
And if he didn't before, he now knows a bit about TM! :) He's the brother of
a friend of mine and is licensed to practice in all 50 states (I live in
Hawaii; he lives in Texas).  If you're interested, his name is Jonathon Healy;
you can email him at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Thanks everyone, for all your input that has helped me in 'surviving' this
challenge, as well as for information that helped to make my case, etc.
Love,
Sally

Oh Jude!

I used to be an M.D. along time ago. I don't "advice" anyone, anymore- I don't
even advice myself.

I only command people these days.

I've been thinking about starting a new religion, and commanding sounds so
religious.

Grace,

Try the white pages, under Amway.

Or try the Amway Web Site

Sounds like a pyramid scam to me.

If you need extra money, I'd recommend selling Amway.

I have sold Amway twice in my life- I'm not now, so don't write me. If you
follow the protocol, you can make a fair amount of money. I have an
acquaintance who is a blind paraplegic, wheel chair bound, who earns more than
$10,000 a month. He's been selling the business for more than 20 years. He
started off slowly, obviously, but was making a living after one year.

As he says, "Almost everyone uses soap, and those who don't, I don't want to
work with."

hope that helps,

[TMIC] SSDI tape

2007-08-28 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Someone sent me a video tape about getting SSDI and said to keep it until my
hearing. I no longer need it (I'm awaiting a decision) and am not sure who to
send it back too. There's a return address on the box: MSersLIfe Library%
Rosa LYnn Cass in Indiana, but I just want to be sure that's who I return it
to, since it's been about 1 1/2 years that I've had it.
Sorry I don't remember your name & email, but if you're the one that arranged
to have this sent to me, please let me know if this is the correct address to
return it to. AND THANK YOU SO MUCH for the help. My lawyer said he's talked
to the judge's assistant, and she said she's recommending that he approve the
case (without a hearing) but you know how that goes - I won't know for sure
until they say so - which my lawyer said would be 1st of Sept, at the soonest.
Best wishes to everyone out there. I seldom write or even read lately, as it's
still a bit painful to stand or sit at the computer due to left hip pain - but
getting a bit better. My prayers are still with all of you.
Me ke aloha,
Sally

Pharmacies only give certain ammounts of meds, determined by how often you are
supposed to take the meds. If you are taking Valium 3 per day, when the
prescription says 2 per day, you may be labeled a drug abuser.

Get your doctor to write a new prescription!!
