[TMIC] difficulties

2009-05-02 Thread Westgold

Difficulties

Difficult challenges can come into your life when you
least expect them, and when you can ill afford them. Yet there they are,
bullying their way into your world. If you try to ignore them or deny
them, they just get bigger and more problematic. The more you let them
worry you and get you down, the more helpless they make you. A life full
of challenge is often stressful and uncomfortable, but it is vastly better
than the alternative, which is a life full of nothing. Your own particular
challenges may seem extremely unfair, and they probably are. But that
doesn't make them any less real, nor does it make you any less obligated
to confront and endure them.

Accept the challenges when they appear, and you're well
on the way to overcoming them. Though they bring disruption and pain, they
also bring growth and power. Sometimes what is best for us, is not what we
would choose. Life is difficult and in it we find unimaginable joy. Accept
it all and live it for all it's worth.

[TMIC] A special blessing

2009-03-31 Thread Westgold
This is a reiki blessing that I received from someone ... I wish this for all
of us...

May today there be peace within.
May I trust that I am exactly where I am meant to be.
May I not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in me and
others.
May I use the gifts that I have received, and pass on the love that has been
given to me.
May I be content with myself just the way I am.
Let this knowledge settle into my bones, and allow my soul the freedom to
sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.

They just throw those unused blastocytes in the garbage, they end up in some
medical waste dump somewhere. Would you rather than that, than see those cells
being used to help cure a lot of horrible diseases? You say that you support
organ donation -- isn't giving these blastocytes a chance to help save
somoene's life similar to organ donation? Don't you think they would rather do
some good with whatever life they have, rather than just be thrown in a dump?

Subject: [TMIC] Embrionic Stem Cell Discussion

I want to take a stand in the discussion regarding the use of human embryos
for research or healing. I started following the healing possibilities before
I ever heard of TM, because my husband has been diabetic for twenty years. My
husband's stand was that he would not use any method that involved human
embryo's even if it means he will die of the complications of diabetis. Good
for him! (Hard for me.) Then along came TM and I now read of stem cell
research with the hopes of us both benefitting from the outcome. However, I
take my own stand - I do not want to use any method that consists of the use of
embryonic stems cells and I regret the use of human embryos of any stage being
used for research.

I visited Jude yesterday and she asked me what TMIC was discussing. When I
told her it was regarding the use of different stages of embryos for research
and healing she said she would allow her body to die before she would accept
any treatment that used human embryo's. We discussed that we have many extra
adult stem cells that we would like to donate to research.

I do not want my tax dollars to support embryonic research or baby abortions
of any kind.

I also quit donating blood after TM, however, I've signed for organ donation
and figure it will be a doctor's decision whether or not to accept.

Re: [TMIC] stem cell

2009-03-24 Thread Westgold
Hi -- there have been many success stories all over the world with stem cells,
I am so glad our new president decided to let the researchers get back to it in
a big way. You can google stem calls + various diseases, or stem cells +
success, etc, and you'll get a lot of stuff. There were twin girls who went to
China for stem cells a couple years ago, and they were helped tremendously.
You used to be able to find their stories by googling stem cells + twins +
Toronto -- try that. I personally believe that now that the research is back
under way full steam, we will be seeing amazing things happening in just a year
or two. Too bad those 8 years of research were lost because of dumdum.

[TMIC] Friday funnies from doctors

2009-03-13 Thread Westgold
1. A man comes into the ER and yells, "My wife's going to have her baby in the
cab!" I grabbed my stuff, rushed out to the cab, Lifted the lady's dress, and
began to take off her underwear. Suddenly I noticed that there were several
cabs ---and I was in the wrong one.

Submitted by Dr. Mark MacDonald,San Francisco

2. At the beginning of my shift I placed a stethoscope on an elderly and
slightly deaf female patient's anterior chest wall. "Big breaths," I
instructed. "Yes, they used to be," replied the patient.

Submitted by Dr. Richard Byrnes, Seattle , WA

3. One day I had to be the bearer of bad news when I told a Wife that her
husband had died of a massive myocardial infarct. Not more than five minutes
later, I heard her reporting to the rest of the family that he had died of a
"massive internal fart".

Submitted by Dr. Susan Steinberg

4. During a patient's two week follow-up appointment with his cardiologist, he
informed me, his doctor, that he was having trouble with one of his
medications. "Which one?" I asked. "The patch, the Nurse told me to put on a
new one every six hours and now I'm running out of places to put it!" I had him
quickly undress and discovered what I hoped I wouldn't see. Yes, the man had
over fifty patches on his body! The instructions now include removal of the old
patch before applying a new one.

Submitted by Dr. Rebecca St. Clair,Norfolk , VA

5. While acquainting myself with a new elderly patient, I asked, "How long have
you been bedridden?" After a look of complete confusion she answered"Why, not
for about twenty years - when my husband was alive."

Submitted by Dr. Steven Swanson- Corvallis , OR

6. I was performing rounds at the hospital one morning and while checking up on
a woman I asked, "So how's your breakfast this morning?" "It's very good,
except for the Kentucky Jelly. I can't seem to get used to the taste" the
patient replied. I then asked to see the jelly and the woman produced a foil
packet labeled "KY Jelly."

Submitted by Dr. Leonard Kransdorf,Detroit, MI

7. A nurse was on duty in the Emergency Room when a young woman with purple
hair styled into a punk rocker Mohawk, sporting a variety of tattoos, and
wearing strange clothing, entered. It was quickly determined that the patient
had acute appendicitis, so she was scheduled for immediate surgery. When she
was completely disrobed on the operating table, the staff noticed that her
pubic hair had been dyed green, and above it there was a tattoo that read,
"Keep off the grass. "Once the surgery was completed, the surgeon wrote a short
note on the patient's dressing, which said, "Sorry, had to mow the lawn."

[TMIC] Wednesday funny

2008-11-26 Thread Westgold

Hi -- this will give you all a good laugh.
It's from columnist Dave Berry's
colonoscopy journal...

I
called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an
appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy
showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to
go all over the place, at one point passing briefly through Minneapolis
. Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough,
reassuring and patient manner. I nodded thoughtfully, but I didn't
really hear anything he said, because my brain was shrieking, quote,
'HE'S GOING TO STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!'

I left Andy's office with some written instructions, and a
prescription for a product called 'MoviPrep,' which comes in a box
large enough to hold a microwave oven. I will discuss MoviPrep in
detail later; for now suffice it to say that we must never allow it to
fall into the hands of America 's enemies.

I spent the next several days productively sitting around being
nervous. Then, on the day before my colonoscopy, I began my
preparation. In accordance with my instructions, I didn't eat any solid
food that day; all I had was chicken broth, which is basically water,
only with less flavor. Then, in the evening, I took the MoviPrep. You
mix two packets of powder together in a one-liter
plastic jug, then you fill it with lukewarm water. (For those
unfamiliar with the metric system, a liter is about 32 gallons.) Then
you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour, because
MoviPrep tastes - and here I am being kind - like a mixture of goat
spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon.

The instructions for MoviPrep, clearly written by somebody with a
great sense of humor, state that after you drink it, 'a loose, watery
bowel movement may result.' This is kind of like saying that after you
jump off your roof, you may experience contact with the ground.

MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative. I don't want to be too graphic,
here, but: Have you ever seen a space-shuttle launch? This is pretty
much the MoviPrep experience, with you as the shuttle. There are times
when you wish the commode had a seat belt. You spend several hours
pretty much confined to the bathroom, spurting violently. You eliminate
everything. And then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you
have to drink another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I
can tell, your bowels travel into the future and start eliminating food
that you have not even eaten yet.

After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep. The next
morning my wife drove me to the clinic. I was very nervous. Not only
was I worried about the procedure, but I had been experiencing
occasional return bouts of MoviPrep spurtage. I was thinking, 'What if
I spurt on Andy?' How do you apologize to a friend for something like
that? Flowers would not be enough.

At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I
understood and totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said.
Then they led me to a room full of other colonoscopy people, where I
went inside a little curtained space and took off my clothes and put on
one of those hospital garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind
that, when you put it on, makes you feel even more naked than when you
are actually naked.

Then a nurse named Eddie put a little needle in a vein in my left
hand. Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Eddie was very good, and I
was already lying down. Eddie also told me that some people put vodka
in their MoviPrep. At first I was ticked off that I hadn't thought of
this, but then I pondered what would happen if you got yourself too
tipsy to make it to the bathroom, so you were staggering around in full
Fire Hose Mode. You would have no choice but to burn your house.

When everything was ready, Eddie wheeled me into the procedure
room, where Andy was waiting with a nurse and an anesthesiologist. I
did not see the 17,000-foot tube, but I knew Andy had it hidden around
there somewhere. I was seriously nervous at this point. Andy had me
roll over on my left side, and the anesthesiologist began hooking
something up to the needle in my hand. There was music playing in the
room, and I realized that the song was 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA. I
remarked to Andy that, of all the songs that could be playing during
this particular procedure, 'Dancing Queen' had to be the least
appropriate.

'You want me to turn it up?' said Andy, from somewhere behind me.
'Ha ha,' I said. And then it was time, the moment I had been dreading
for more than a decade. If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because
I am going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like.

I have no idea. Really. I slept through it. One moment, ABBA was
yelling 'Dancing Queen, feel the beat of the tambourine,' and the next
moment, I was back in the other room, waking up in a very mellow mood.
Andy was looking down at me and asking me how I felt. I felt excellent.
I felt even more exc

also help by doing some deep breathing exercises and a little morning

Hi -- I got a virus in my inner ears a couple years ago, you can research
labyrinthitis. I had very bad vertigo and dizzy spells when I tilted my head
in certain ways. They put me on Dramamine/Gravol because there is no treatment
for a virus, I just had to wait for my body to heal it. It was over 9 months
before I could stop these meds. It finally went away, but came back the next
year. At that time I got an MRI and some tests to test my balance and inner
ear damage. They tilt you and shoot water into your ears, etc. But this shows
exactly what the problem is. It sounds like that is what you might need
any ENT guy should be able to arrange these tests for you, they're done in a
hospital. If these tests are negative, then it's not an inner ear problem.
But if it is, there are treatments to reposition the balance crystals in the
inner ears, the dr can show you. Google the Epley Method --
Nobody should have to live with vertigo! It's so scary!

I wasn't fond of the neuro. I should have tried to get back into with
Hormez. I don't think I'll ever go back to Piedmont for anything. I was an
awefull, awefull expereince.

The good news was that the MRI showed nothing wrong with my brain.

The not good news was that my trigimnal nerve was inflamed but i
couldn't understand if the neuro was saying that this WAS trigiminal neurolgia
or not??? - He said both?? - what does that mean? It either is or it isn't.

He said that trigeminal neurolgia was a symptom of a problem and that
it could not be treated but only the pain could be managed. He said that the
gabapentin would help but in time, it will not work and I willl just have to
increase the dosage.

He said that I had to find the CAUSE of the problem.

He believed that the cause had something to do with my ear but that he
was not an ear specialist. But the ear specialist SENT me.

He also said that it could be TMJ but I don't know what that has to do
with an inflamed nerve in my brain and face.

So, here I am, still in pain with no answers.

The vertigo is still there - worse than ever. He said that that had to
be an inner ear problem.

So now, I am trying to find a denist/oral surgeon/TMJ specialist AND
back to my ear doctor??

I feel so lost.

I agree that this forum is no place for either politics or religion.
There are plenty of sites for either of those topics and people debate with a
vengeance for what they believe. Visit those sites if that's what you're
looking for.

When I ask for you to pray for me I am completely sincere. My father
was a deacon in the church and I was raised to believe in God and the Bible.

I have certainly not always followed the Ten Commandments...not even
one of them. Although the older I get the stronger my belief in God as my
higher power becomes. Of course, I realize that I am no saint. My belief
system is growing as my need for something to hang on to grows. The closer to
death I become, the easier it is to believe in the Bible and the acts therein.

When I was taken to the hospital the last two times, the doctors and
nurses had to use the paddles on me and that is extremely sobering to hear
about. I was literally a heartbeat away from death and I had no near death
experience which makes it even more scary.

Facing death makes believing in something like the Bible and God easier
to conceive of. The immediacy and finality of death brought with it the need
for something strong and bigger than we human beings. I needed Jesus and His
Gift to hang on to. Without Him and the story of the Bible, I could find
nothing to believe in.

There are millions of books in libraries around the world. But no
other book is opened and read more often than the Bible. Of course other
religions have their own books of Prayer and belief in a Redeemer. To each,
his own.

I want to be prayed for. I need to be prayed for. And I appreciate
every single prayer sent to Heaven on my behalf. I will pray for you as well
if you believe as I do. Even if you don't believe like me I will pray for your
peace of mind and health for your body.

I promise never to belay this topic again. I think enough has been
said by this big voice. So, continue to pray for me...for relief from this
constant barrage of pain, for relief of the infections coursing through my
blood, and for relief of the pressure sores and the infections that started it
all.

Thank you, from your constant admirer,
Jude

Hi everybody. A lot of research seems to show that there is a higher incidence
of MS in people from the North latitudes *because* they do not get enough
sunshine. It is vital that we all supplement, unless you have a job where
you're outside all day. There is an easy blood test that will tell you your
Vitamin D level, ask your dr for it. I hardly ever go out, and so I started
taking vitamin D supplements when they started talking about them here in
Canada about 3 years ago. I took 400 mg a day. Then last year I heard more
info, so I started taking 1400 a day. I had the test during my physical last
month, and I am LOW. Even with all that supplementation I am still low. So
I've started taking 2400 mg a day now, divided into two doses. We should all be
taking it year-around, not just to help stave off the flu. I get mine from
puritan.com, it's very cheap and they ship immediately.

take care -- Michelle

  Hi Everyone ~
When I was writing to Linda this morning about her sinuses it reminded me
of something that I want to let you all know..
Most people think they get sick with colds and flu in the winter because
of the cold weather.
Nothing could be further from the truth.

The reason people get sick more often in the winter is because they don't
get the usual 15-30 minutes of sunshine a day, (without sunscreen...!), that
our bodies need to produce the Vitamin D we need to avoid getting sick.

The solution..take a vitamin D3 tablet every day from Fall into late
Spring
everyone around you will be dropping down sick and you should be just fine.
At the very least, if you do get sick , you won't be as sick as everyone else.

The reason I said to skip that vaccine is quite simple. It DOESN'T WORK.
The formula they have made this year for the flu vaccine was made from the
flu strain that went around last year. Flu germs mutate every year. So...
since this years flu strain has mutated.what good does it do to get a
vaccine to protect you from last years flu strain??
Doesn't make sense when you think about it now does it...?

Okay.take your Vitamin D3 and call me in the morning. :-)
 Hugs, Lynn

The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it and
handed it to the police woman.
'Here it is,' she said.
The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying, 'Okay,
you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop.'

Re: [TMIC] Bed Sores

2008-07-11 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody. Please don't take bed sores lightly. Don't forget that
Christopher Reeve *died* of complications from a bed sore, and he had the best
possible care. Our dear Jude is also in her situation because of bed sores,
that is what started her downslide. They are truly life-threatening. It isn't
enough to take something to stop the pain. They are still there. There are
lots of things you can use to help prevent and treat them -- just google "bed
sores". Don't just take an advil and hope they go away, they won't. Just look
what poor Jude is going through. They're much easier to prevent than to heal
once they've taken hold.
  Bless you all -- michelle

Re: [TMA-New-England] RE: [TMIC] knee pain!

2008-06-17 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody. I have very bad arthritis, no cartilage in my knees at all. I
started with Glucosamine many years ago, but I didn't get any help until I
added Chondroitin. Then I really noticed an improvement (after about 3-4
months), and xrays after a year or so showed that little bit of cartilage had
actually grown back. After a few years of that, I found out about Shark
cartilage, and started on that. It has helped even more -- I don't know what
I'd do without it. But you have to take a LOT. I used Bell's, but I believe
the other ones available are about the same dosage. You need to start with 12
a day, for at least 3 months, then if you have relief you can cut back a bit.
Otherwise keep going longer with the 12 a day. But don't stop, if you stop your
pain will all come back and you'll have to start over again (I know). I have
been on the Bell's Shark Cartilage for about 6 years now, and continue to take
a daily dosage of 2 caps (plus 2 glucosamine). I didn't get total relief,
although many people do, but I hurt *much* less than I did before I started on
the Shark.

Re: [TMIC] did you all see house? TM was mentiond - I thought that was cool

2008-05-16 Thread Westgold
Well, I might be wrong. But I got the impression that House considered the
transverse myelitis as one of a set of symptoms this week, and not a full-blown
disease of its own. Because he said to give antibiotics for the TM, and then
to continue running tests for other things. Like the TM was just one of the
guy's symptoms. I believe TM can be considered an inflammation of the spine, in
which case I suppose someone could have that in addition to some other
problems. What do you guys think? I'm sure they must have excellent doctors
advising House, because they use such fancy terms all the time. They must know
that tons of medical professionals watch that show, and so have to be really
accurate all the time.

  :

If they had reason to believe that the TM was caused by an underlying
infection, they would prescribe antibiotics. There are many diseases that
present with TM as a symptom, my own (NMO) included.

Re: [TMIC] did you all see house? TM was mentiond - I thought that was cool

2008-05-15 Thread Westgold
Yes, I was gonna write you guys to ask about this. I had it on tape and
listened to it again. One of the drs suggested TM, and House said very
clearly, "you start him on antibiotics for transverse myelitis".

They mention TM often as a "possibility" for a lot of the patients who come in,
but they always dismiss it very quickly. They also mention sarcoidosis for
almost every patient, but it never is. I'm still waiting for them to have a
show about someone with sarcoidosis, as that is what I have.
It can be very mysterious, and would make a great show.

Showcase is rerunning all the old episodes, and last night they showed the
episode with the black college student who they dx'd with TM, so I listened
more carefully to it this time. They believed that he had TM that was caused by
an infection, but he had no active infection in his body. So they talked about
the possibility of an old infection that was gone, but the damage lingered on.
When they learned he had just been in Jamaica, House assumed (with no evidence
at all) that the TM may have been caused by pesticide poisoning on the pot
there, so he started the kid on some drug for that. He had a terrible reaction
to that, so that was scrapped. Then they discovered that he had a radioactive
keychain, and they never mentioned TM again. He died from radiation poisoning.
This was the first patient House had that didn't make it. The first time I
saw this episode, I thought they introduced the radiation because they didn't
want to show someone dying from TM. But after listening more closely last
night, he never really had TM at all, it was just radiation poisoning.

take care everybody -- Michelle

Yes, I saw it and heard it loud and clear. And correct me if I am wrong, but
I think I heard them say when they were getting ready to treat the TM, they
were going to treat it with and antibiotic. Is that what you heard? I guess a
doctor did not write the lines or I was not aware that it was treatable with an
antibiotic.

Re: [TMIC] Misunderstood

2008-04-16 Thread Westgold
Hello -- Sorry, Patti -- you do not understand how my program works at all.
What you said is wrong. It is not MLM or a pyramid in any way. You do not
call people and ask them to send you money. Last year I was looking for
people to help me return phone calls from people who answered my ads,
because there were so many I couldn't keep up with them. Maybe that is what
you saw. I needed some people to help me call the lists of people who
answered my ads, and invite them to listen to the information call. That's
all we have to do -- invite people to come to a live call where they hear
how this program works. We do not ask people for money. There is no selling
or explaining, they explain everything on the call so we don't have to. If
anyone would like to check it out, please lte me know & I'll be happy to
book you for a call, they're held everyday.

It is a private club where we all help each other learn how to leverage our
money and make it grow by inviting others to join our club. It has been
going for over 6 years and has over 55,000 members in 16 countries. It is
very solid. I just found it last summer, and am averaging $10,000 a month.
All we have to do is invite people to listen to the live call which explains
exactly how it works, and it is their choice to join or not. If someone you
invited to the call joins, you get their sign-up money. It is very
straightforward. There is no way to fail unless you don't invite anybody.
Everybody is an equal member, there are no multi-levels where some people
make more money than others. Everybody is equal and has an equal chance to
succeed. The more people you invite to the information call, the more will
join, and the more money you will receive. Very straightforward. This is
totally different from other things you may have seen. Not everything on
the web is a scam, I personally know a lot of people making $100K or more on
the web every year. It's a perfectly legitimate way to make a living, and
perhaps the only way to make a good living for those who are disabled or in
pain.

I've been trying to make a good living on the web for almost 10 years, since
I can't go out to work anymore. I tried a lot of different things, and this
is by far the easiest and best. It was a great blessing to me when my
friend told me about this last summer, and we all pass on this blessing by
helping as many people as we can by throwing out financial lifelines to
those who need more money in their lives.

If you don't like this concept of people helping people to leverage their
money, I'll be glad to get you set up in one of the businesses I was doing
last year before I found this one. They're more "real", with real products
that you have to sell, etc. It will take more work to make a decent amount
of money, but I'll be happy to teach you how to do one or two of them. I
made $108,000 in 2006-7 with a couple of those businesses. I have learned a
lot in my 10 years on the web. You can do well also, if you have someone
who will teach you how to do it the right way.

I am offering to help anybody who would like to make some extra money. I
know how hard it is to make money when you're disabled in any way. And
recently there have been more than the usual number of posts from people
saying they can't afford special medical treatments, PT, pool time, extra
nursing care, etc. I just want to offer my help. I didn't expect to get
shot down. My heart is pure -- I would never tell you dear souls about any
business that is a scam. I have a few perfectly legitimate businesses to
show you, if anyone are interested. If you're not, that's fine too. but
please don't prejudge before you even know the real story.

take care -- Michelle

MisunderstoodHello everybody. I have been reading all your stories, and want
you to know that I pray for all of you everyday. I do not have TM, I joined
this list because my dear friend has it. I am disabled with arthritis and
sarcoidosis. Because I can't go out anymore, I have learned to make a very
good living working on the internet, sitting down. I will make over $100K this
year from my chair. If there are any of you who would like to get a little
business going on the web, to either supplement your benefits or so you'll be
able to quit your job, please let me know. I'll be very happy to help you in
any way I can, I do understand your situations. I know that some of you cannot
afford PT or other therapies that would help you. It's easy to bring in a

you to help you meet your income needs. Please contact me privately if you are

Re: [TMIC] JUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2008-03-28 Thread Westgold
This is appalling. I told you guys last month that you have to contact the
ombudsman of the place where she is, they all have them. I know that one
person called, but you need to call again. You need to call everyday! The
ombudsman's job is make sure that things like this don't happen to patients,
but you have to keep him informed! He probably talked to the staff once after
you called before, and then he forgot about Jude. Call everyday!! This is
criminal, and someone should take photos and keep records, because there could
be a malpractice suit here. Jude cannot get this help for herself, you guys
who are close to her have to take charge and DEMAND that she get better care,
or they will just put her into a corner to die. It may already be too late to
save her, (Don't forget, Christopher Reeve died ultimately of a bedsore, and he
had the best care that money could buy), but at least we can help make Jude
comfortable now. There is NO EXCUSE for what is happening to her!!! Whoever
called the ombudsman before, could you please post the phone number & name to
this list so we can all call on Jude's behalf? We don't know where she is or
how to call the administration.
thanks you --

Hi everybody -- have you considered that maybe it's the medication that is
making you impatient? Modern antidepressants (as opposed to the tricyclics)
have a bit of stimulant in them, as do many pain pills. If you're taking more
than one pill, or if you're sensitive to stimulants, you might be getting a
jolt like 5 cups of coffee -- and that would give anybody the "jitters".

This is horrible. Every hospital has an ombudsman, whose job is to speak on
behalf of those who cannot or will not speak for themselves, and to intervene
in problems between patients and staff. Just call the hospital and ask to
speak to the ombudsman, and tell him or her what is going on here. It will be
taken care of. Nobody should be left to cry in pain And if the staff
doesn't like what you've done and think they might like to take it out on poor

[TMIC] I hate my job!

2008-02-24 Thread Westgold

When you have a "I Hate My Job" day, try this: On your way home from
work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the thermometer section and purchase a
rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson. Be sure you get this brand.
When you get home, lock your doors, draw the curtains and disconnect the
phone so you will not be disturbed.

Change into very comfortable clothing and sit in your favorite chair.
Open the package and remove the thermometer. Now, carefully place it on a
table or a surface so that it will not become chipped or broken. Now the fun
part begins. Take out the literature from the box and read it carefully. You
will notice that in small print there is a statement:

"Every Rectal Thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson is personally
tested and then sanitized."

Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times,
"I am so glad I do not work in the thermometer quality control
department at Johnson & Johnson."

2008-01-26 Thread Westgold
hi -- I also used to sweat like a you-know-what when I was taking
anti-depressants many years ago. I tried everything. The only makeup that
doesn't come off and run into your eyes when you sweat is the "waterproof"
makeup, like Revlon Color Stay. You also have to use waterproof mascaras, and
waterproof eye shadows, etc. The Color Stay stuff was the best I could find at
that time, they may have better things available now. But you need a really
good creamy remover to remove it at night, and baby oil to remove waterproof
mascara. The only problem with this type of makeup is that it is quite thick,
and looks a little pasty on the face. Try to find a perfect color match, that
will help. Or some other companies may have better stuff now.

Ladies I have a question. Has anyone found a makeup that doesn't come off
when you sweat?

I have a friend that was a beautician and she said to try one of the mineral
makeups.

I'm tired of looking like a crippled bag woman. It's bad enough to have to
find pull-on flat shoes that will stay while "dragging" one foot and also try
to find fashionable looking/fitting clothes that you can pull on or that have
BIG buttons.

To think of all the heels that I gave away - let alone the work and dressy
clothes! Some days I look in the mirror and could just cry! It's bad enough
to be getting older but to look and act twice your age just gets too me. I
know this sounds vain, but I've never looked this bad except for a week or two
after an operation.

Prayers and thoughts for you and yours,

  Candy K.

Re: [TMIC] Living with TM videos on YouTube

2008-01-01 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody. I just went there, and Video Log 2 has somebody else now, a
photographer talking about his TM, he didn't give his name. Is it someone on
this list? I didn't see the Hands-Free Computing, but sure would like to. Can
someone tell me how to find it? I've never used YouTube before, can we search
for things by name, etc? thanks --

I pray that your all have a better year in 2008. In Toronto we have a gorgeous
fresh layer of clean white snow today -- looks like a great fresh start.
take care -- Michelle

If you scroll down to the "Video Log 2" section and click on "see more", I'm
in the "Hands Free Computing" video done by the Christopher Reeves Paralysis
Foundation. That one is in English but my segment was smaller.

[TMIC] on case you didn't get it

2007-12-20 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody -- here is the text from the Rev. Billy Graham newsletter I

How Can I Avoid Falling into Despair?
By Billy Graham, Tribune Media Services
Q: I have been disabled almost all my life, and the older I get the harder
it is to keep up a smiling front. My faith sustains me most of the time, but
I admit I sometimes fall into self-pity and despair. But how can I avoid it,
when I know I'm never going to get better? -- J.W.

A: I know yours has not been an easy road, but the most important thing I
can tell you is that God has not abandoned you, and His love surrounds you
every moment of the day. You can depend on God's promise: "Never will I
leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).

Listen: As long as we focus only on ourselves and our own problems (and for
many of us they are minor compared with the challenges you face), we will
always slip into self-pity and despair. But when we focus on God and His
love for us, our problems will grow smaller, and we will find strength to
meet them -- and even with joy. The Bible says, "Cast all your anxiety on
him because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7).

How do we keep our focus on Christ? One way is by making His Word, the
Bible, part of our lives every day. Through it we not only learn how God
wants us to live, but we discover how great His love is for us -- a love so
deep that His only Son was willing to endure the cross. No matter how much
we suffer, Christ suffered far more than we ever will -- and that is the
proof of His love.

May God strengthen your faith as you commit your way to Christ every day.
And remember: Someday all the pains of this life will be over, and you will
not only be better -- you will be whole, for you will be in heaven with
Christ forevermore.

Re: [TMIC] folding grab bar

2007-11-11 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody -- hope you're all having a good weekend. I cannot install any
traditional grab bars because I am in an apartment -- but I have seen those
with big suctions cups on the ends. They say they won't leave a mark. Has
anybody used these, and do they REALLY stick and hold? I'm talking about
the good ones, they're about $100 each. I'm afraid that if I really leaned
on one (I'm a big girl) that it might come loose. Anybody have experience
with these?

thanks --

Hi everybody. Has anyone successfully gotten a free scooter from those places
that advertise them on TV, like The Scooter Store? They say that if they
approve you, and your insurance will not pay, you get it free --
Or will insurance pay even if you social worker says you don't deserve one?
It's the opinion of your *doctor* that the insurance company listens to,
right??

Somehow, these social workers and Durable Medical Equipment people don't
understand that people also want to have a "Quality of Life". In order to do
that, we need to be mobile. This is why equipment with wheels are made. Sure,
there are those who need scooters in their home for sure, but they aren't the
only ones who benefit from them.

I had the same problem when I wanted a wheelchair. She told me since I can
get around my house without it that I didn't need it. But I asked her if I was
supposed to be house bound for the rest of my life or if I were supposed to try
and have some quality to my life and go to a shopping mall, amusement park or
county fair, etc. Sure, we all have our limitations, but don't let anyone
discount what you can do and try not to let them stop you from doing it if you
can help it.

OK, I've vented also. I'll get off my soapbox now!

  Hugs to all, Barbara A

Re: [TMIC] OT OT OT more taken than given

2007-10-17 Thread Westgold
How can you say this, Jude??! This is not fair at all. I sent you ALL the
information the first time you asked me, it was 3 weeks or so ago. But then
you wrote me on Monday night and told me you'd been in the hospital 3 times and
wasn't able to check it out yet. We just emailed about this two nights ago!
You said you got my information and would check it out when you feel better.
How can you judge if you didn't even check it out! It is NOT a scam, it is a
legitimate way to make money from home. I am making over $10,000 a month, I
just received another $3,500 this afternoon. I am so busy with this I do not
have enough time to call all the people who answer my ads and request
information -- I just need some helpers to call these people and give them the
information. I know that many of you cannot make ends meet on your disability
payments, I am trying to *help* you by offering you easy work you can do from
home to bring in some extra money. All you have to do is call people and give
them the information, each call only takes about 5 minutes. If someone you
talk to signs up, I will give you a 50% commission. It's perfectly
straightforward.

You were so nice when you wrote me about this on Monday, Jude, I don't know why
you have suddenly turned face when you haven't even had a chance to check it
out yet. I am just trying to help people who need to bring in a little extra
money. It is a perfectly legitimate job I am offering people, just helping me
return phone calls -- ABSOLUTELY NO SELLING INVOLVED! please contact me
privately if you are interested and I will give you ALL the information. I
don't think it's right to post all that on the list, so write me privately.

Re: [TMIC] OT OT OT more taken than given

2007-10-17 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody. For all you new members, if anyone wants to make some really
good money from home to supplement your benefits, I still need a few people to
help me return phone calls to people who have requested information about
starting a home business. So many people answer my ads, I cannot keep up with
them. This will not interfere with your benefits. All you need is a flat-rate
long distance plan, about $20 a month, there are no other charges. Please let
me know if you are interested. I pay a 50% commission on each person you find
who signs up, $250 to $1750. I'll work with you & teach you exactly how to do
it, but all you have to do is call people and invite them to attend a call
where they can learn about the business. I'll give you the names to call. You
can make the calls anytime, whenever you feel up to it.

take care -- Michelle

Re: [TMIC] officially TM

2007-10-03 Thread Westgold
Hi -- I just wanted to remind everybody that if you need to supplement your
disability payments, I still need some people to help me make phone calls for
my business. All you'd have to do is call lists of people, and invite them to
attend a live telephone presentation. No selling! If someone you send to a
call signs up, I pay 50% commission, $250 to $1750, depending on which level
they sign up for. Your earning is unlimited, and just depends on the number of
calls you make. You don't have to pay anything, all you'd need is a flat-rate
long distance plan, since you'd be calling people all over the US (and Canada
too if your plan includes that). The best one I found was from Sprint, only
$20 a month for unlimited calls in North America.
Please let me know if you'd like some more information. Your first step would
be to attend the call yourself so you see what it is like, I'll send you the
schedule.

thanks, Michelle

Fitness facilities belonging to a hospital might permit use if 1) they get a

Re: [TMIC] Oprah

2007-09-22 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody --- Is Cody the most famous person with TM? That guy who was on
Montel is also well-known, we should also be telling Oprah about him. (She
really likes people who have written books.) A famous person with any disease
always helps raise the profile and raise more research dollars. I have
sarcoidosis, and hardly anybody heard about it until 60 Minutes did a spot on
model & former MTV VJ Karen Duffy and her struggle with it, and the book she
wrote. Then Bernie Mac came out & said he had it too. A spot on 60 Minutes
would be great for TM too!

Re: [TMIC] Unidentified subject!

2007-08-31 Thread Westgold
Hello Robert & everybody. I have been wanting to talk to you all about this
topic Robert brought up. As you know, I do not have TM, I joined this list
because my closest friend has it. I have sarcoidosis and very bad
arthritis, and I am practically housebound. I haven't been able to go out
to work since 1981, and have been forced to make a living from home (sitting
down). I tried a lot of different things, including writing for magazines,
writing books, and I had a mail order business for 25 years. But I didn't
make that much money until I started working on the internet about 9 years
ago. It took me a while to figure it all out, but now I am making almost
$10,000 a month on the web. I would be very happy to help any of you get a
good business started, and teach you exactly how to do it. I'm a very good
sponsor, and very sensitive to your situation since I am disabled too. I
don't know how some of you live on disability payments, that wouldn't even
be enough to pay my rent. I have been doing more than one business, but one
is *really* hot right now, so I am concentrating on it. To come in the
regular way, where you would earn a minimum of $500 for each person you
bring in, the cost to get started would be $720. If you cannot swing that,
I do need some "helpers", people to make phone calls for me, to invite
guests to a live call where they can learn about the opportunity. I already
have two helpers, but I can use an unlimited number. I pay a commission of
50% of whatever the person pays me to come in -- so that would be $250, $750
or $1750 for you when someone you find signs up with me. You wouldn't have
to pay anything to be my helper, but you would have to have a flat-rate long
distance plan, as you'll be calling people all over north America. The best
one I could find was from Sprint, only $20 a month for unlimited north
American calls. If you don't like making phone calls, I have a couple other
businesses where you wouldn't have to do that, but I wouldn't be able to
bring you into any of those for no upfront money. But I'll be very happy to
help anyone who would like to get a good internet business going -- If you
are interested, please drop me a line at [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

[TMIC] OT The Wooden Bowl

2007-07-21 Thread Westgold

Because you are special! Love and blessings, Michelle

" I guarantee you will remember the tale of the Wooden Bowl
tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, a year from now.

 The Wooden Bowl

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and
four-year
old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was
blurred,

and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table.

But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made
eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When
he

grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. "We
must do something about father," said the son. "I've had enough of his

spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor."

So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There,
Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner.
Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in
a

 wooden bowl!

When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometime he
had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had
for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food.

The four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before
supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He
asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?"

Just as sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making a little bowl
for
you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up." The
four-year-old

smiled and went back to work.

The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless. Then
tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was
spoken,

both knew what must be done.

That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led
him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every
meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed
to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth
soiled.

On a positive note, I've learned that, no matter what happens,
how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.

I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way
he/she handles four things: a rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, and

 tangled Christmas tree lights.

I've learned that, regardless of your relationship with your
parents,

you'll miss them when they're gone from your life.

I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as
making a

 "life.."

I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.

I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's
mitt

on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.

I've learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But
if
you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your
work

and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you.

I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart,
I

 usually make the right decision.

I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

I've learned that every day, you should reach out and touch
someone.

People love that human touch -- holding hands, a warm hug, or just
a

 friendly pat on the back.

I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.!

I've learned that you should pass this on to everyone you care
about. I just did.

NOTICE AT THE END, THE DATE THE CANDLE WAS STARTED. GONNA GIVE
YOU GOOSE BUMPS.

I am not going to be the one who lets it die. I found it

angels have walked beside me all my life--and they still do.

2007-07-20 Thread Westgold

$20.00

Sometimes we just need to be
reminded!

A well-known speaker
started off his seminar by:

holding up a $20.00
bill. In the room of 200, he asked,
"Who would like this
$20 bill?"

Hands started going up.

He said, "I am going to give this
$20 to one of you

but first, let me
do this.
He
proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill.

He then asked, "Who
still wants it?"

Still the hands
were up in the air.

Well, he
replied, "What if I do this?"

And he
dropped it on the ground

and started
to grind it into the floor with his shoe.

He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.

"Now, who still wants it?"

Still the hands went into the air.

My friends, we have all learned a
very valuable lesson.

No matter what
I did to the money, you still wanted it

because it did not decrease in value.

It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives,

we are dropped, crumpled, and ground
into the dirt

by the decisions we
make and

the circumstances that come
our way.

We feel as though we are
worthless.

But no matter what has
happened or

what will happen, you
will never lose your value.

Dirty or
clean, crumpled or finely creased,

you are still
priceless to those who DO LOVE you.

The worth of our
lives comes not in what we do or who we know,

but by WHO WE ARE and
WHOSE WE ARE.

You are
special
-
Don't EVER forget it."

If you do not pass
this on, you may never know the

lives it touches, the
hurting hearts it speaks to,

or the hope that it
can bring.

Count your blessings,
not your problems.

"And remember:
amateurs built the ark ..

professionals
built the Titanic.

If God brings you to
it - He will bring you through it.

[TMIC] Never regret a day in your life

2007-07-13 Thread Westgold

The Fern and the Bamboo.

One day I decided to quit I quit my job, my relationship, my
spirituality. I felt I had let down those I loved the most and I wanted
to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.

"God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"
His answer surprised me...
" Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"
"Yes", I replied.
"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of
them.

I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth.
Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the
bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.
In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And
again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo".
He said. "In the third year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed.
But I would not quit.
In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. But
again, I would not quit.
He said. "Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.
Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant. But just 6
months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five
years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed
to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not
handle."
He said to me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been
struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the
bamboo. I will never quit on you. Do not compare yourself to others." He
said. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern, yet, they both make
the forest beautiful."

"Your time will come," God said to me. " You will rise high!"
"How high should I rise?" I asked.
"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.
"As high as it can?" I questioned.
"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."
I left the forest and brought back this story.
I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on
you

Never regret a day in your life.
Good days give you Happiness.
Bad days give you Experiences.
Both are essential to life.
Keep going...
Happiness keeps you Sweet,
Trials keep you Strong,
Sorrows keep you Human,
Failures keep you Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only God keeps You Going!
Have a great day! The Son is shining!!

God is so big He can cover the whole world with his Love. But He can also be
so small that He can curl up inside your heart.

there is a LOT more about these diseases that science has yet to discover. So
much research money is needed.

  Hi Pam,

There IS an elevator. The problem is not the elevator, it is that
when the elevator door opens in the lobby of my building,
in order to get outside, you have to get down two sets of
stairs to get to the sidewalk. The elevator does not go
down to street level, and the door persons are not allowed
to touch anyone to help them unless they are visually impaired.

There is one long passageway that goes to a long ramp that
goes out to the street for people in wheelchairs, but when
they get out there, it is illegal to park cars on that street
not to mention dangerous to stop a car, because of
the high amount of traffic. This is the oldest high-rise
building built in my city,(50 years old) and the laws didn't
exist to protect disabled folks that exist now. I am looking
to move to a building that is disabled-friendly. This placw
never will be, but I WILL make them met every current
code I can, short of tearing it down and rebuilding it.
Like putting in the four handicapped parking spaces
  that don't exist.

  Take care,
  Kevin

thanks for posting this, Sandy, this is very valuable info. Social service
agencies usually have lists of places like this in the various areas.
Church groups & Synagogues also often have lists of places to help, as well
as volunteers who might help. Did everybody get my email "Grocery Delivery
For All" that I sent an hour or so ago? If not, please look in your bulk
folder for it -- I give a link where anyone can order groceries on the web
for free delivery, no matter where you live. If you didn't get it through
the list, please send me an email & I'll send it to you personally.

I have not joined in on this since going to the grocery store is still one
of those things I CAN do one day a week. But in many Wisconsin communities
they have a program called "Market Basket" or something like that.
If I understand it correctlyyou get a large box of groceries at a
discount and there are volunteers who deliver them. I think its set up
that you can pick them up for yourself. But when I was looking at it a few
years ago they were looking for volunteers who would not only belong to
the program but also deliver the boxes to those who could not get out.
Also...in some areas, more everyday, there are CSAs. Those are Community
Supported Agriculture farms that grow vegies and fruits for members who
pay up front and get a box of fresh produce every week. Its like having
your own garden without the dirt, sweat, blisters and bending. The ones
around cities I understand deliver to your door...more for working people
who like to come home and find a cooler with fresh vegies on the back
steps than disabled folks who cant travel...but you get the deal.

My two cents,
Sandy in hot, hot, too hot Wisconsin.
Did I mention its rather hot today?

[TMIC] Grocery delivery for all!

Hello everybody -- I knew I could find something to help *everybody*, I just
had to do a little thinking. Forgive me, I forgot that I represent this
company, I could have given you this link when we first started talking
about this, but it slipped my almost-60 mind

Everybody, no matter where you live, can get groceries through this link...
please feel free to pass it along to your friends. Or you can place orders
for others who do not have a computer.

http://www.amazon.com/b?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=16310101&tag=shoppingangel-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325

They carry 22,000 non-perishable items, and shipping is free. You might
still be able to find a fruit store or butcher shop in your city who will
bring you perishables, but at least you won't have to lose weight for lack
of Special K, canned fruit, tuna, canned meats, etc.

I have to be honest, I do rep this company, and will make $3 each time
someone opens an account -- if you would rather not go through my link, just
go to Amazon.com and click on Groceries.

Take care everybody -- thanks -- Michelle

hi -- Rochester is a good-sized city -- please get out the yellow pages and
call around to the closest produce stores & small grocers, you'll be amazed
at how many offer delivery. I am in Toronto, and I wrote a whole book on
places that deliver a few years ago -- there were *hundreds* of stores, even
tho most do not announce it (they don't want to be swamped). But if you
tell them your situation, I know you'd find someone who would fill up a cart
for you & have somebody bring it over. Even if they charge $10, it's
cheaper than hiring that person to shop for you. I pay $10 to
GroceryGateway.com, for any size order. I don't know what I would do
without them! take care -- Michelle

There's nothing free around here and freelancers charge my elderly

to do their shopping. An entreprenuer brings a small "store" to our
apartment building twice a week where she charges $1 for two apples or 4
bananas, 75 cents for a zuccchini, etc.
There aren't any small grocery stores around, this is downtown Rochester
and those who are ambulatory make their way to a drugstore ( Eckerd's?
Walgreen?) that carries some junkfood.

I'm making a list for the social entrepreneur incubator maybe i could

[TMIC] Metamucil

2007-06-01 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody --I'd like to put in a good word for good-ole Metamucil, it's a
miracle product. Many people do not realize it, but *whatever* your bowel
problems are, it will help you. If your movements are too soft, it will firm
them up. If they're too hard and you have constipation, it will soften them.
It's such a great product!! You might have to take it 2-3 times a day, but it's
pretty cheap. Be sure you get the Smooth texture one, the regular is horrible
-- and be sure that the water you mix it in is fridge-cold, otherwise it will
just gum up before you can drink it. Mix & drink immediately. The only problem
with taking Metamucil is that you can't take it within a couple hours of any
medication or supplements. Anything that's in your stomach when you take it
can get caught up in it and get swept out of the body. So you have to arrange
your schedule so you take it either an hour before or a couple hours after any
medications. (And if you need to lose weight, take it right after you eat, it
will sweep many calories out with it.)

I have been calling my doctor since last week for an answer and the answer is
always the same, "Doctor has not come to a conclusion yet. We are waiting for
the lab work to come back."

I've not heard of this "butterfly" symptom in the four years I have been on
the List, and yet here it is, mentioned twice in one set of emails. I wonder
if there is anything new going on in the world.

Is there anyone out there who is already paralyzed who feels like they are
being paralyzed all over again beginning at the toes and traveling all the way
up to the original ending spot? My original site stopped at T3 and fortunately
did not affect my arms except for some slight tremor, but this time it feels
like my arms are going to be paralyzed too.

Please email me or the list if you have been through this.

I have been having "flutterings", which are like the small muscle spasms I
have in my legs and arms, over my left breast area. This just started in the
last week - or at least that I am aware of. Does anyone have the same or does
anyone think I should contact my Neuro?

I have been under some stress due to doing taxes and finding out that I owe
$3500 to IRS. Little did I know that the Disability Insurance is taxable which
I think is unjust - if I had my car stolen or totaled, I don't think that
insurance amount is taxable!

Also due to the amount of the Disability Insurance amount, I don't qualify
for any additional credits. I had plenty of deductions due to meds, Medical
Health Insurance payments, special equipment not covered under insurance, etc.
and got the amount from $7500 to the $3500 amount, BUT still more than I think
I should pay.

Then today I went to pay my credit card that I use for personal items
(groceries, meds, gas, etc.) and found that some where along the line, my
credit card number has been stolen. I have $500+ in different charges with
such items as Islamic Refugee Relief, hobby store, etc. The Credit Card
company is looking into it but does that mean that possibly the FBI or CIA will
be visiting me? I check my credit card and bank balances at least weekly. All
this has happened since last Friday, 3/23.

Anyway, back to the original question - should I be alarmed? I don't want to
appear neurotic to the doctor but I also don't want to ignore any "signals"
that my body is trying to send to me.

  Thanks,

  Candy K.

YOUR CORRECT HE DID NOT IN MY OPINION TOUCH ON TM AND HOW IT EFFECTS US ALL

I WAS VERY GOOD IN SCHOOL AND I HAD A POEM I WROTE PUT IN A BOOK BY SENIORS.
I HAVE SPOKE ABOUT THIS TO MY DOCTORS. THEY SAID I COULD DO A BOOK GET
PERMISSION TO HAVE PEOPLE ON THE LIST IN IT AND LET PEOPLE KNOW WHAT TM REALLY
IS.LET THEM NO ABOUT THE TM SITE.
I AM A PERSON WHO GETS BORED EASILY. IT WOULD TAKE ALOT OF MY TIME ALSO. I
WOULD THEN HAVE TO FIND OUT WHO TO CONTACT. I KNOW I CAN DO IT,MY DOCTORS SAID
THEY WOULD HELP ME IF I WAS REALLY SERIOUS.MY HUSBAND THINKS ITS A GREAT IDEA.
NOW I DO SO MANY THINGS TAKE HARP LESSONS, I PAINT AND AM ON LADIES COMMITEES

WE WHERE HIT REALLY HARD BY KATRINA. MY HUSBANDS COUSIN DID A CD ON IT. HE

ALOT OF CONNECTIONS I KNOW THEY WOULD HELP ME ALSO.
I THINK THERE IS SOMEONE MORE QUALIFIED THAN ME TO WRITE IT. I HAVE BEEN
THINKING OF A TITLE.WHO KNOWS I MIGHT GIVE IT A SHOT. ITS JUST I GET BORED AND
I THINK I WOULD TAKE ALONG TIME IN GETTING IT DONE. PLUS I AM TALENTED IN MANY

Re: [TMIC] numb hand

2007-02-25 Thread Westgold
Call your doctor immediately. My friend started out slightly numb, and within
a couple months now she cannot even type or feed herself, she can't hold a
thing. I don't know if anything can be done to stop it once it starts, but
call your doctor immediately.

Has anyone woken up at night with a numb hand?

Twice in the last week, I've woken up during the night with my left hand
numb. The first time I just chalked it off as being b/c I'd fallen asleep
laying on my back on an ice pack for a couple of hours. But when it happened
again last night, I got a little more concerned. Part of what makes me more
concerned is that for the last couple of weeks, my upper spine has been feeling
a bit weird. My TM lesion is T6 - T8, but now I'm starting to worry about
something higher in my back.

Now that I think about it, when I was jumping (lightly) on the little
trampoline at PT, I felt this funny feeling in my upper spine (like maybe it
was sort of jamming together). Then at water exercise, I've started
participating in the jumping jacks that sort of does the same thing to my upper
spine. Of course, it's not like jumping on the ground b/c the water cushions
the movement, but maybe my body isn't ready for this.

Any experiences with these kinds of things?

original one went through. Who can I talk to about this? How is in charge of

Re: [TMIC] fine print and old eyes

2007-01-25 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody. There are two ways you increase the size of the print you see
on your own computer. Try the easy one first -- it will increase the size
of all type in the emails you receive, and also the print on most website
you visit.

Just open your browser, Internet Explorer. In the toolbar at the top,
select VIEW. Then TEXT SIZE. Click on Largest.

If this is still not big enough for you to read easily, let me know. There
is a way to increase the size of everything dramatically by using special
settings so that people with various disabilities can still use the
computer. I'll find out how you can do this if the above-mentioned setting
change isn't enough.

SOME TIME WAY BACK I SENT TO THE LIST AN EASY MEANS OF ENLARGING THE FONT

IT WAS SOME COMBINATION OF THE CONTROL BUTTON AND ANOTHER, BUT I FORGET.

When 11 point type is viewed on a big screen at maximum resolution,
it appears as very fine print. Namely, on my screen at this moment
is a note by an long-time TM'er; the 11 point body of his note
appears with the text, "was", only .07 inches tall. My old eyes
cannot read that without glasses plus leaning forward to get near the
screen.

There are two solutions: larger type or a lower resolution screen.
Changing the screen resolution is in conflict with my style of
computer usage. Changing the type size for each message received is
not worthwhile for mailing list messages.

I am sure that I am not alone with this problem.

So I would like to ask contributers to compose their messages with 14
point type or larger. This message, and others I create, is 14 point.

Hi everybody. You are right about omega-3 oils --
they are a *very* powerful anti-inflammatory. This
is a hot field of research right now, as they prove that
so many of our medical problems and pains are
caused by inflammation in the body. People with
TM and similar diseases have serious inflammation
on the spine and throughout the body.

You can get a *free* bottle of the most powerful type
of omega-3 anti-inflammatory supplement -- from
the New Zealand Green-lipped mussel -- at this site.
Just pay $6.95 for shipping for a month's supply. If it
will work for you, you should notice some improvement
in a month. It's definitely worth a try.

I was interested in the claims made in Jenna's post on Glyconutrients,
(http://www.vitalcarbs4life.com/ http://www.glycoscience.org/) but
felt it sounded a bit like a sales pitch. I did a web search and found
many sites selling the same thing with the almost the same wording as
one another. It sounded a bit like a pyramid selling scheme. None seem
to actually describe the product they're selling in any details, or give
prices or ingredient lists etc. but all make these really huge claims.
I also came upon this site, which gave a different perspective, and
refuted claims about some of the studies:

http://www.ratbags.com/rsoles/comment/mannatech.htm
http://www.ratbags.com/rsoles/comment/mannatech060910.pdf

Having said that though, Jenna, I'm not disputing your claims, and would
be very interested in any treatment or supplement that actually works.
Like everyone else here, I'd love to be cured or at least to find
something that relieves the suffering a bit (or a lot!). I have noticed
since being struck down by TM that I sometimes get huge sugar cravings
and eat lollies when I do. I never used to have a sweet tooth, but now
I do. I don't pig-out on them all the time, (because my legs are
already wasted heaps from a yr in a wheelchair, and I don't want to have
to put on extra weight for them to have to try to hold up, as I'm now
managing to walk a bit now with a Canadian crutch), but the
sugar-craving is something I've noticed. I wonder if that's something
to do with the claims of the sites on the Glyconutrients about sugars?
Maybe it's just coincidence, but I did wonder if my body may be needing
more sugars or something, when I had these real cravings for something
sweet.

One doctor I saw while having a scan done suggested to me that fish oil
supplements and glucosamine are useful in demylenating diseases, as they
will help protect it in some way. I take the fish oil, as I'm a
vegetarian (not any more I guess :), and think maybe I've been missing
out on something in the diet. (Although no way I could bring myself to
eat meat though).. But I haven't tried the glucosamine yet as it's too
expensive, and I'm only barely struggling to make ends meet as it is.
Has anyone tried the glucosamine? None of these things is actually a
'cure' or anything, but just maybe a maintenance thing to try to keep as
well as possible, under the circumstances.

I do get a bit worried at some of the quackery that targets sick people,
who are desperate for cures or relief, and are probably an easy target
for unscrupulous people to make money out of. But if anything would
give some relief, then it would be great. I just don't want to be
ripped off, because it's so hard to manage with being sick anyway.

I agree with others that have written in here, with the pain. I've
found the constant pain is the worst part of this. My back pain just
won't go away. Some days it's not as bad as others, but it's always
there. I find when I've tried to push myself to do more, I tend to pay
for it over the following days with heaps more pain and fatigue. After
the back pain, the legs and feet are next worst, with the pain and
frozen feeling and banding. But all my joints seem so incredibly
painful at times too. It's just relentless. Then there's the spasms
and twitching legs; and not being able to go to the loo without heaps of
laxatives every day, or to even push properly. I'm taking 200mg
Tramadol morning and night for the pain, and Neurontin (which I can
barely afford, so only take a little, as it's not on the PBS for
neuropathic pain here, and costs almost $100 a packet at most chemists),
and Baclofen for the spasticity, (which has made a huge difference for
me). I still sometimes need to take Endone in the middle of the day if
the pain becomes too severe. I've tried going off the Tramadol, as I
don't want to become dependant on it, but the pain is just unbearable
when I do. 200mg Tramadol is the biggest dose available and is long

I just found out about a Toronto woman who was paralyzed. She went to China for
stem cell therapy, and now she has feeling returning to her legs. I saw her on
TV and she was so thrilled with the results. Here is a report about her, and
at the bottom of the story is a link to her blog, where she tells everything
about what happened. It is fascinating. This is the miracle so many people
need.

If you go to google, and put this into the search box
stem cells + Toronto + China
you will find stories of some other Toronto people who also went for this
treatment. They are starting to get real results from stem cells... imagine
what the next 5-10 years will bring! There is always hope.

Re: [TMIC] Stem cells

2007-01-12 Thread Westgold
Hi everybody. I look at it *exactly* like organ donation, which is allowed and
blessed in all faiths. Since these extra unused embryos are going to be
discarded anyway (in a way kinda similar to a dead adult body being put into
the grave, gone forever), why not allow them to "donate" cells that will help
so many people before they are thrown away? Adults have the chance to donate
before their dead body is gone forever, I think giving the embryos the same
chance/option is a true blessing. How many people they can help!!

I feel the same way as Barbara does and have tried to explain it many times.
It's not so much our religious beliefs as regarding an embryo, from the time of
fertilization, a human life entitled to a right to live just as any other human.

Those who don't consider an embryo a human life have no problem destroying
embryos for research. I think the law currently recognizes embryos as property
of the sperm and egg donors that created it and not a life.

As Gunny pointed out usable stem cells have been found in embryonic fluid.
That is a tremendous scientific breakthrough which has been down played by the
media. The media wants to focus on controversy to fit a political agenda. The
media constantly wrongly says that some people are against all forms of stem
cell research, when no one is. Some people, such as myself, are against only
stem cell research which involve harming a viable human embryo.

After listening to Dr Kerr a couple times I have changed my opinion a little.
Doug said he wants to use the IVF embryos that are malformed that would not
result in a viable pregnancy. That seems fine to me. Those embryos could be
declared dead (such as would be the case before organ donation) and then be
used. I still can't get myself to go along with using otherwise still viable
embryos just because they are left over and not going to be used in IVF.

(Sigh). No, that's not it at all. As many have explained many times in as
kind and as gracious a way as possible, it's a matter of regarding embryonic
life as real and with as much of a right to live as we have.

But -- the point of these posts was to celebrate that there is a way to
obtain stem cells without using embryos, not to bring up all those old
arguments again.

Many of you have inquired about Grace. I received this letter from her this
morning and she gave me permission to forward it to the list.so here goes:

  Dearest Lynn,

I'm so sorry that I haven't written lately. It is my eyes---they are going
quickly now, and it is very difficult for me to read my emails and even more so
to type them. There are two magnifying glasses here on my desk and I
frequently have to depend on them, and sometimes, even with their help, I still
can't see to read my mails. For now, books, including my Bible, are a thing of
the past, as even with my glasses on, and a large print Bible, I still can't
comfortably read and often become distraught whenever I try and am
unsuccessful. During the day, I open all of the drapes and turn on every
single lamp, as the dimness is so diconcerting for me. The thing that I hate
the most, is that I am very much behind on my Devic's worktons of
unanswered emails and queries, the newly diagnosed, those just fresh out of a
relapse, people looking for neuros, people with medication questions, and those
just needing a hand to hold theirs, that my dear friend Tim (The founder of our
site.), is bearing the brunt of it. Most days I try, but quickly become
frustrated by my vision. You know Lynn, I used to think that it was the
paralysis that I feared the most, but now I am not so sure of that as
previously.

One very good thing has come from this experience with serious illness,
however, and that is that the small things, the little things that upset so
many, are now in perspective for me. In the grand scheme of things, the *small
stuff* just doesn't matter. For this new perspective, I am grateful.

Dearest Lynn, I think of you so often throughout the day. Your most generous
and unselfish gift, came at a time whenever I was most in need. The day that I
received your card in the mail, I immediately burst into tears, but they were
happy ones, Lynn. Grateful tears. Thanks to you, I will have enough
medications to get me through until such time as I qualify for Canadian OHIP.
Because I always relapse whenever my prednisone is reduced, I was in a state of
great fear. I knew that if it were to stop altogether, that it would only be a
matter of weeks, if not days, before I was hit again. God bless you for your
loving kindness. You are certainly one of God's stewards.

  I love you,
GraceP.SYou may certainly forward this mail to the list and
give them an update. Just please, take my address off of it. Soon, I'll be
ready to get back into the swing of things again. Please tell everyone that I
miss them.

Hello Jude & Everybody.  I assume that
every state has a registry or medical board of some kind.  I am in Ontario,
and the Ontario Medical Assn maintains a website that lists all the doctors in
the province, their specialities, and if they are taking new patients.
When my old GP retired last year, I spent an hour on the website and the phone,

Hi Michelle,

Your email came at the perfect time for me.  I learned
yesterday that my doctor is discharging me from her practice because I
take up too much of her time and she doesn't feel as though she is doing
me any good.  She said exactly what you say, almost word
for word.

I feel lost and scared that I will run out of medication
before I find another doctor.  She is giving me a month to do
it.  The difficulty lies with knowing who to select.  No one
will give me any names of doctors who treat SCI patients.  I will
call my insurance company in the morning and have them send me a booklet
with available doctors in it.  My doctor recommended that I find an
Internist.  That was big of her.

Anyway, your words are right on the money and I just wanted
to tell you how right you are.

Peace,
Jude

[TMIC] good & bad doctors

2006-11-02 Thread Westgold

Hello -- I belong to several groups for cat health, and a
couple of them have set up a FILE accessible from the group's home page at
Yahoo.  In this file we list vets we recommend.  This group could do
something similar -- list good and not-so-good doctors.  Personally I
believe that some doctors are exactly like some vets.  When some vets come
across a case that might turn out to be difficult for them or the owner of the
cat, they often recommend just putting the cat down.  I have seen this esp
in diabetic cats.  If the vet doesn't want to have to deal with possible
complications, he tells the owner that it's difficult to treat, and kitty should
just be put down.  In reality, diabetes is very easy to treat in 95% of
cats -- that vet just didn't want to deal with it.  I believe that some
human doctors also don't want to deal with rare incurable illnesses.  It
might take a lot of time, and they might look bad if they can't do
anything.  Drs like this of course don't put people to sleep -- but they
often ignore them or treat them badly or pass them on to someone else.
Someone might be a very good dr, he just doesn't want to deal with a
difficult case that he will probably not be able to make
better.  With TM and other diseases, you need a dr who is a good
detective, one who will never stop looking for ways to help you -- and enjoy the
process.  Those are the best doctors.

take care -- Michelle

It seems like I keep reading about this type of attitude with doctors over
and over on the tmic.  It has brought me to a point of
worry about others who may not be not getting the correct treatment in a
timely manner. Do we (this groups members) have an obligation to at least note
the doctors name and where they are practicing medicine?  I don't want to
imply that these doctors are bad people or bad doctors.  They just don't
have the education or training to recognize this disorder.  Maybe we
could help prevent someone from having to encounter multiple visits to a
doctor that doesn't understand TM. I don't know how the rest of the group
feels about this but maybe it is something we can discuss. Just my 2.3 cents.

Hi Tracey,
TM effects people to
different degrees.
Your daughter hopefully is one
of the more fortunate TMers. I have been sent to Hershey Med several
times. Last time there the neurologist told me there was no such thing as TM
and wondered what doctor had told me I had TM. I told him it was two
doctors, one in Lebanon and one at Johns Hopkins.

Did someone at Hershey actually
give a TM diagnosis? Please let me know who it was. The doc I saw who would
not say I had TM or admit to there being TM,  did put MS on my
insurance form, but he would not say to me if I had that either. He did tell
me he would not need to see me again, which I thought was very strange.
thanks

  1) I have a brain
  2) it has no

  3) it's

Re: [TMIC] bladder and UTI

2006-10-01 Thread Westgold

Hello --- If you're not already taking cranberry juice, it is
very helpful to start.  I used to get these bladder infections all the
time, and they can travel up into the kidneys if not caught soon enough.
But since I started taking the cranberry juice, I hardly ever have one. It
prevents the bacteria from sticking to the wall of the bladder, so they can't go
forth and multiply.  Cranberry drinks will help, but we don't really want
all that sugar.  The best thing you can use is 100% pure unsweetened
cranberry juice, available at health food stores or some supermarkets in 1 qt
glass bottles.  It's quite tart, but you will get used to it.  I truly
like it now. (Don't take it right after eating something sweet or right after
brushing your teeth, it tastes so much worse then.)  Take a couple
tablespoons in the morning and most importantly, a couple right before
bed.  They also sell capsules, but they are so small, it seems like
you'd have to take a lot of them to get the equivalent of 2 tablespoons of the
pure juice.  You can also mix the juice in your smoothie if you have one,
etc.  This has been proven in dozens of studies to really work, and is so
much better for you than constantly taking antibiotics to cure the
infections.  Cranberry juice has also been proven to help prvent
strokes.  Any dark red fruit or veggie contains tons of antioxidants --
cranberries are one of the healthiest things you can take, for many
reasons.

Hi Kevin -- please be sure that you get a few opinions before
you have CTS surgery.  Make sure that's what it is.  And if you decide
to go ahead, get a damn good surgeon.  My neighbor had this surgery a few
years ago -- she was a seamstress, and at the age of about 60 it all caught up
to her.  After the surgery her hands were so weak, so lost all grip
strength.  She couldn't sew, couldn't put on makeup, couldn't even open a
bottle of pop, and was always coming over for me to open her pop for her. I
must say that she was diabetic, and that may have affected her healing --
and I don't know if she did any physiotheraphy.  But just please be super
careful.  CTS can be treated with splints and meds, I hope you saw a
specialist in this area to help you.

Hi all,

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I was wondering if anyone has had surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome
and how successful it was?
I have it in both hands, with severe numbness, weakness, stiffness,
pain.  Are
these symptoms you had?

I'm also concerned that cts is the correct diagnosis because of the TM,
but
I've had EMG's and other tests which showed cts, as well as ulnar nerve
damage.

I know that someone on the list wrote that they had cts, but don't
remember
the details.

Thanks all,

Hello everybody.  When "House" did that episode on the

they knocked him over.  For my friend, the very first symptom she had was
an itching under the skin.  When she would rub it, it would move somewhere
else.  She said it was almost like ants under the skin sometimes, and it
drove her crazy.  She saw several doctors, and nobody had a clue what it
was.  It wasn't until her leg was almost paralyzed one morning when she

Drug combination fuels hope for MS fight
By MARIA CHENG, AP Medical WriterFri Jul 21, 4:54 PM ET

Four years ago, 28-year-old multiple sclerosis patient Karen Ayres was
wheelchair-bound and paralyzed. "I was trapped in a body that wouldn't do
anything," she says. Now, following an experimental drug treatment, she has
regained mobility and is studying for a doctoral degree.

Ayres was one of 27 patients with aggressive MS who was treated in an open
trial with a course of cancer-drug mitoxantrone and copaxone, which is used
to treat relapsing MS.

Like Ayres, many of the other patients in the study experienced results so
remarkable that some MS experts, while expressing caution, are now taking a
second look at the preliminary experiment.

A three-year controlled study is being launched at 10 centers across the
United Kingdom to further investigate the potential of the drug combination.
The results of the initial trial, led by Dr Mike Boggild at the Walton
Centre in Liverpool, will be published next month in the Journal of
Neurology.

Mitoxantrone is an anti-cancer drug so powerful that it is potentially toxic
and can only be used safely in the short term. So, Boggild and his
colleagues combined its use with copaxone - a notoriously slow-acting drug.

"We decided to overlap the treatments because we wanted to give some time to
copaxone to build up its effect," says Boggild.

What happened next was dramatic. "Patients who were just the worst of the
worst did remarkably well," Boggild said.

"We think we've tapped into an unexpected synergy between the two drugs that
gives you more than the sum of the parts," he says. With a few exceptions,
Boggild says most of the patients treated with the drug combination are now
essentially "trouble-free."

Though one patient developed acute leukemia - a known side effect to
mitoxantrone treatment - Boggild says the majority of patients haven't had
disease relapses.

Patients were first given a limited course of mitoxantrone, before being
started on copaxone, usually a few months later. In Ayres' case, recovery
was rapid. "From barely being able to wave my hand to walking out of the
rehabilitation center took a few weeks," she says.

While the study has clearly generated some impressive results, many experts
say more time is needed.

"It's a small study with no control group," says Dr Robyn Wolintz,
co-director of the MS Center at Maimonedes Medical Center in New York. "They
also gave different people different doses of mitoxantrone, and that's not
standard," says Wolintz, explaining that changing the dosages and the
frequency of the treatment makes it difficult to reproduce these results to
verify the drugs' efficacy.

"We're talking about an early, small study," says David Harrison, of the MS
Society in the United Kingdom. Though Harrison characterized the results as
"encouraging," he believes it is necessary to conduct a large-scale
comparative investigation to establish how the mitoxantrone-copaxone
combination ranks against other known and potential drug cocktails.

Still, some experts believe Boggild and his colleagues have stumbled upon a
valid hypothesis. "Single drugs are not what gets the job done," says Dr
John Richert, vice-president of research department in the United States'
National MS Society. "It really is likely that more and more combination
therapies will be used."

For patients with particularly aggressive MS, the proposed treatment may
provide some hope. "The people who could benefit from this have nothing else
at their disposal," says Wolintz.

And unfortunately, medicine is far from an exact science. "Many physicians
make their decisions based on incomplete data," says Richert. "Even though
there's not sufficient data to make any kind of formal recommendation, there
is enough data to say that it is reasonable to make this option available to
physicians and their patients when they've weighed all the pros and cons of
the situation."

For patients like Ayres, who still takes daily injections of copaxone, life
without the treatment is unimaginable. "When I was lying in my hospital bed,
not even able to twitch my toes, I was jealous of anyone who could walk,"
she told The Associated Press.

Despite the potential side effects, which include leukemia and cardiac
problems, Ayres says the treatment was worth the risk. "I didn't have a lot
of options," she says, "and to be completely normal now was worth everything
that I went through."

Re: [TMIC] "HOUSE"

2006-06-22 Thread Westgold

Hello everybody -- "House" is the name of the
best medical drama ever.  It is amazing.  Every week this crack team
of superspecialists gets one patient who nobody else can figure of what's
wrong with.  They write his symptoms on a whiteboard, and strategize and
throw ideas around. It is truly fascinating to watch the *process* that
their genius medical minds go through as they try one diagnosis, reject it, and
then try another and another.  (Your doctors probably went through some of
the same things too when you first went in with symptoms!)  Sometimes it
turns out to be something very simple, and sometimes very complex. (The
first episode turned out to be african sleeping sickness. The patient herself
had never been to africa, so they doubted the diagnosis, until they learned
that she had an affair with someone who went to africa, and got it that
way.)  Only that one black kid with the TM has died -- but he died of
radiation poisoning, not TM -- they saved all the other ones. Watching
their genius minds work is what is so fascinating.  They are now rerunning
the whole season throughout the summer, Tuesday nights from 8-10 EST on
FOX.  This is the second season, the first season is on DVD
already.  My friend with TM finds this the most fascinating show ever,
because now that she's been through seeing multiple doctors and had an
unbelievable number of tests, she understands the show perfectly.  I have
sarcoidosis, and they have not done a show on that yet.  However, when
someone comes in, they usually mention sarcoidosis as a possibility, but then
quickly dismiss it.  Darn.
That disease can also be fascinatingmaybe
next season!
Take care everybody --

Re: [TMIC] OT-"HOUSE"

2006-06-21 Thread Westgold

Hello -- that was a repaet, I saw it when it was
originally on too.  They did not say that they thought the TM was caused by
the radiation exposure.  They thought the TM was caused by pesticides on
marijuana the kid smoked in jamaica, and started treating him accordingly.
When that treatment didn't work, they started looking for some infection he may
have had that was gone (hence no white blood cells), but the effects lingered
on. This is what they assumed was causing the TM.  It was only then
that they discovered the radiation exposure too.  I do not believe they
ever thought that the disease was caused by the radiation.  I believe that
they didn't want to show him dying of any *disease* -- House has NEVER lost
a patient on the show before --  so they added the radiation so that the
kid could die of something *other* than a disease that House would have been
able to find.  So they got the drama of someone dying on the show, but it
wasn't because House couldn't solve the problem.  That is my favorite show,
I just love it!!

[TMIC] bad pain

2006-06-12 Thread Westgold

Hello everybody -- I hope you are all doing well
today.
My friend has been back in the hospital in Montreal
for
almost 2 weeks now.  Her pain in her back is unbearable,
she describes it as fire.  She says that they have
tried everything, but most meds they tried did nothing at
all, and the ones that do work a bit only last for an hour or so, and then she
has to wait and wait for another dose.  I just spoke to her and she said
that sitting in the wheelchair for hours is torture, and yet they are so
busy there nobody can find time to put her into bed. She has been crying and
begging to go to bed for over 3 hours now. She cannot move at all to even
reposition herself in the chair. Laying in bed also causes great pain after
a while, because she can't move at all, and staying in the same position for
hours is unbearable.  I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY CAN'T FIND SOME PAIN RELIEF FOR
HER!!  This is criminal!  Have any of you been in this
situation, or perhaps you know someone who has been?  What can be
done??  She has had TM for only a little over a year -- and has become
totally disabled in that time. At the beginning of last year she was just fine
except for some itching under her skin.  Do any of you know some
secret special drug or procedure that might help her?  She could live a
good life in the wheelchair if only something could be done about the horrible
pain.  If you have any hope at all, please let me know & I will pass it
along to her.
thank you all so much -- Bless you!

Hello everybody.  If you are on antidepressants,
they
cause dry mouth big time.  Get into the habit of
always
having a glass of ice water handy wherever you
go,
and hard candies also help a lot.  Keep some by
the
phone, by every chair, and by the bed.
Sometimes
you wake up in the middle of the night coughing
from
the dryness.  Just take a candy.  To save on
calories,
use sugar-free candies -- or stock up on those tiny
little
"MINI Christmas Mix" candies that come out every
year, they're the perfect size for a quick
mouth refresh,
about 1/3 inch cubes, and come in lovely fruit flavors.

You can also hide them in your cheek when
talking.
Keep little containers of them all over the
house. Keep
them sealed & dry, as summer humidity will cause
them
to stick together, which is a royal pain when you
just
want to grab a quick one.  (Just whack them with

something if they
do.)

a very dry mouth over the past 4 months.  I started Baclofen in
January.  I've researched and haven't found a connection between Baclofen
and dry mouth.  My doc had me tested for Sjogren's and, thankfully, it
  was negative.

I've seen research showing that neurological
damage can cause dry mouth.  Does anyone here know anything about
  that?

  Thanks
  Sharon
