Absolutely! This is another of several that you and I share. My husband's
coughs or sneezes and even his goose-honking nose-blowing cause the electrical
shock pain. I have never told him this. My body also responds with a giant
jumping reflex that he has never mentioned. I think my reflex is so close to
his "noise" that he isn't aware of it. Maybe, I do it often enough it's no
buggy to him. However, it's so painful to me I always feel he should apologize.

I keep TM secrets from my hubby, because he shouldn't have to feel guilty when
he coughs or sneezes.

[TMIC] Fw: What to take to bed with you...Not a Joke!

2013-01-25 Thread Janice Nichols

THOUGHT THIS MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA FOR ALL OF US.
  JANICE

What to take to bed with you - not a joke.

Put your car keys beside your bed at night.

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's
office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put your car
keys beside your bed at night.

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house,
just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the
horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery
dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home
for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a
security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no
installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house
and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with
the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or
garage.

If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house,
odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds, all the
neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure
enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while
walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.
This is something that

should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual
abuse crime.

P.S. I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it is fantastic.
Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't
reach a phone. My Mom has suggested to my Dad that he carry his car keys with
him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car
alarm and then she'll know there's a problem.

Dear, long-suffering, friends!

As a Baha'i for these now past 43 years, I no longer celebrate Christmas, or
Chanukah. We do join with Christians in celebrating the Birthday of His
Holiness Jesus—May God exalt His memory and teachings in the hearts of all
mankind!--and we do join with Jews in the Celebration of Light. But for all
those who do celebrate the Christmas holidays and Chanukah,

I wish you all greetings and pray that it is a time of joy and spiritual
renewal for all of you. The All-Glorious Lord knows we certainly need it!

Love and prayers to all,

had rheumatoid arthritis for many years and has bouts of both temporal
arteritis (inflammation and damage to blood vessels supplying the head area)
and alopecia (near-total hair loss). Lucky for her, with the help of Rogaine
for women, her hair has returned to near-original condition.

My sister had a minor bout of shingles several years ago (only affected her
left arm, but still extremely painful) and spent many years of pain and
discomfort and went thru many doctors before finally being diagnosed with
Celiac (gluten intolerance). Her system is so sensitive, she and her husband
even have to use separate cutting boards so as not to cross-contaminate their
food.

And I, of course, was stricken with TM six years ago. Though not sure if it is
also an auto-immune disease or not, I also have scoliosis, for which I had
spinal surgery at 19 to fuse 9 vertebrae and spent 11 months in body casts.

My family has had enough of being “special”!

RE: [TMIC] Fw: Jeopardy Question/Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

2012-03-31 Thread Elizabeth Clark
I was lucky enough to help chaperone my daughter's 8th grade class back in
2005 on their trip to Washington D.C. One of our tours was to the Tomb of
the Unknown Soldier and we were just in time to witness the changing of the
guard. It was quite impressive to watch as the tour guide explained all the
facts associated with being one of the guards. Too bad the majority of
today's youth (and too many adults) have no concept of the words "respect",
"honor" and "duty".

Jeopardy Question No One Could answer . I found this very interesting .

ARLINGTON CEMETERY

Jeopardy
Question:

On
Jeopardy the other night, the final question was
"How many steps does the guard take during his
walk across the tomb of the Unknowns"
All three contestants missed it! --

This
is really an awesome sight to watch if you've
never had the chance.
Very fascinating.

Tomb
of the Unknown Soldier

1.
How many steps does the guard take during his
walk across the tomb of the Unknowns
and why?

21
steps:
It
alludes to the twenty-one gun salute which
is the
highest honor given any military or foreign
dignitary.

2.
How long does he hesitate after his about face
to begin his return
walk and why?

21
seconds for the same reason as answer number
1

3.
Why are his gloves wet?

His
gloves are moistened to prevent his losing his
grip on the rifle.

4.
Does he carry his rifle on the same shoulder all
the time
and,if
not, why not?

He
carries the rifle on the shoulder away from the
tomb. After his march across the
path,he
executes an about face and moves the rifle to
the outside shoulder.

5.
How often are the guards changed?

Guards
are changed every thirty minutes,
twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a

Hi Janice,

Thank you for sharing that information. I was unaware of the selflessness
that these men have for their tasks, to honor the fallen in this way is a
mark of true respect, of that which few could muster the internal strength
of character to uphold.

Jeopardy Question No One Could answer … I found this very
interesting …
ARLINGTON CEMETERY

Jeopardy
Question:

On
Jeopardy the other night, the final question
was
"How many steps does the guard take during his
walk across the tomb of the Unknowns"
All three contestants missed it! --

This
is really an awesome sight to watch if you've
never had the chance.
Very fascinating.

Tomb
of the Unknown Soldier

1.
How many steps does the guard take during his
walk across the tomb of the Unknowns
and why?

21
steps:
It
alludes to the twenty-one gun salute which
is the
highest honor given any military or foreign
dignitary.

2.
How long does he hesitate after his about face
to begin his return
walk and why?

21
seconds for the same reason as answer number
1

3.
Why are his gloves wet?

His
gloves are moistened to prevent his losing his
grip on the rifle.

4.
Does he carry his rifle on the same shoulder
all
the time
and,if

He
carries the rifle on the shoulder away from the
tomb. After his march across the
path,he
executes an about face and moves the rifle to
the outside shoulder.

How often are the guards changed?

Guards
are changed every thirty minutes,
twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a
year.

For
a person to apply for guard duty at the tomb,

Re: [TMIC] Fw: Living with paralysis? Take our quick poll now!

2011-08-12 Thread Dalton Garis
Hello;

What's up. Docs?

I had another bad attack of convulsions and muscle contractions yesterday,
folks. It wasn't really physically as bad as some others I have had; I got
to a chair and a nice friend got things for me, and I was able to talk, as
long as I was sitting down. But it whacked my consciousness. I slept the
rest of the day in the chair, then moved to the bed by 11:00 at night, then
slept until 5:30 the next day. That is something like 16 hours. This
morning I was still wry weak and just dopey. No strength, no coordination.
Really something. It started with a left-side headache that morning which
lasted all day.

I just learned that scientists have discovered something like 26 different
variations of MS. Certainly, what I had and have doesn't fit any of the
ordinary profiles for MS, or the ordinary, really dangerous TM, that most of
you suffer from. I'm stumped; and so are the doctors, beyond saying that it
was idiopathic TM. My angel of a wife wants to take care of me. I will
write, read, and I just bought a mandolin on eBay. I played it as a kid,
bluegrass and some Bach. So, this will give me an activity. If I can type
on this keyboard then I maybe can play mandolin again.

Thanks, friends. Please share any ideas you have about what this thing I
have in my nervous system might be. I'm thinking, and I have said before,
that it might have some epilepsy content. Who knows.

Regards,

Dalton

[TMIC] FW: [Bestjokelist] Fw: CALMNESS IN OUR LIVES

2010-12-20 Thread Gerry Surette

CALMNESS IN OUR LIVES

I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all
use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard
on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr Phil proclaimed,
"The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have
started and have never finished."

So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't
finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a
bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a package
of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the
cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates, and finally a half bottle of
Scotch.

You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.
Pass this on to those who you think might be in need of inner peace.

[TMIC] Fw: A Little Christmas Story Not about TM

2010-12-12 Thread Janice Nichols

Hope you get a kick out of this. Janice

A Little Christmas Story

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce
toys as fast

as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas
pressure. Then,

Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed
Santa even

more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of
them were

about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out,
Heaven

knows where. When he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards
cracked,

the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.
Frustrated, Santa

went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he
went to

the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and
hidden the liquor.

In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke
into hundreds

of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the
broom and found

the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom. Just then
the doorbell rang,

and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there
stood a little

angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said very cheerfully,
'Merry Christmas,

Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where
would you like me

to stick it?'

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas
tree.

Not a lot of people know this.

I had a blood clot too when I was in the hospital - in my lung.Had to
wear the hose for several months - hated them.My husband
had to help me put them on every morning. I didn't have the strength it
took to do it.Hated them in the summer time especially.

I realize they are important, but.

Priscilla...It seems like everyone with TM has a dominate side of their
body in terms of pain and other issues related to TM. Mine is my left and
it sounds like yours is the right side. I had to start wearing the hose
after I had a huge blood clot in my left leg. I also sleep with my feet
elevated. When I wake up in the mornings the skin is lose around my toes.
Then I put on my support hose and get dressed. When I take them off at
bedtime my ankles will start swelling. That is why I sleep with them
elevated.
The hose are very tight and difficult to put on (much harder than
pantyhose, I think :). I get the feet on first and then pull them up
around my thighs. At first it's difficult but it gets much easier after a
little practice. Hope that helps youCody in Austin

As to your questions...fatigue is HUGE part of tm..when I first

hard to get 12 hours of sleep with pain waking you, so you need to find some

I am new to this site,I have been reading it and it has been helping but would
like to be more a part of this group. I was diagnosed with tm in july27,2007.
I am on Baclofen& Topamax at this time also daily vit and D. I have been
loosing energy over last year fatigue is terrible. Unable to sleep from pain. I
know I need this group because my life as I knew it is gone! I used to be
compared to a workaholic jokingly by my friends. I loved to work and was a
therapist for a inpatient psychiatric hospital. As well individual, marital
therapy and group counseling for out pt therapy. When TM hit I was forced out
of my job of 20 years. I am home and well feel I'm just now getting to point
that I accept changes. BUT!!! Lots to learn. Anyone have insight into
Depression and TM? Not sure I'm tired or depressed! Thanks jackie

But, I am so glad you found us. This site is a life line we all need very
much. I have been here since the summer of 2008, and I think it saved my

[TMIC] Fw: A teachers lesson (UNCLASSIFIED)

2010-07-29 Thread Janice Nichols

Thought you might appreciate this, Janice

Great story and has a very important message. We need more teachers like
that.

Subject: A teachers lesson

You might have seen this before, but this time I checked it out and
every word is true. Here's the snopes item:
http://www.snopes.com/glurge/nodesks.asp

I like this teacher.

A lesson that should be taught in all schools . . And colleges

Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha
Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little
Rock , did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with
the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building
supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.
When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that
there were no desks.
'Ms. Cothren, where're our desks?'
She replied, 'You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn
the right to sit at a desk.'
They thought, 'Well, maybe it's our grades.'
'No,' she said.
'Maybe it's our behavior.'
She told them, 'No, it's not even your behavior.'
And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third
period. Still no desks in the classroom.
By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in
Ms. Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all
the desks out of her room.
The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found
seats on the floor of the desk-less classroom, Martha Cothren said,
'Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has
done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this
classroom. Now I am going to tell you.'
At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her
classroom and opened it.
Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that
classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the
school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the
wall. By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those
kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just
how the right to sit at those desks had been earned..
Martha said, 'You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks.
These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's
up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good
students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have
the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it.'
By the way, this is a true story.
Please consider passing this along so others won't forget that the
freedoms we have in this great country were earned by U. S. Veterans.

One of the very important things to take note of is that often - for
disinfecting purposes - it is not the 3 percent off the shelf H202 that is
being used. It is the 35 percent food grade that is used for hot tubs, cutting
boards etc. You dilute it down, but not to 3%. 35% burns burns burns!
However, for mouth rinses, yes use 3%. We - at the health food store where I
work - actually had to quit selling it to one woman because she would bathe in
the 35% so much that her skin was turning white. (She was from Columbia) She
was also drinking a very diluted amount.

Moderation, Education, and above all Common Sense!

Found most of the uses interesting, but as a nurse I have to tell you I
would no sooner use peroxide on a wound than bleach. Peroxide can cause damage
to surrounding healthy tissues and actually slow healing. For me good old soap
and water work the best.

Clorox vs Peroxide VERY interesting and inexpensive.
This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana
(a doctor's Wife), and I want to share it with you. She
was over recently for coffee and smelled the bleach I was using to clean my
toilet and counter tops. This is what she told me. 'I would like to tell you of
the benefits of that Plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for

bleach in a doctor's office? NO!!!

Why? Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the
nurses who work in the doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at
home. They are wiser and know better!

Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's?
It's chlorine, folks! And it was used to kill our Troops. Peroxide was invented
during WWI in the 20's. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our
troops and hospitals.

Please think about this:
1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes
with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out.
(I do it when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter
without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash.

2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to
keep them free of germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to
kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when
you wipe, or spray it on the counters.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour
peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a
50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night
and let dry.

6. Soak any infections or cuts in
3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a
day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was
healed by soaking in peroxide.

7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide
and Water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without Harming your
septic system like bleach or most other Disinfectants will.

8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with
your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and
help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into
a tissue.

9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a
dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for
ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your

One of the very important things to take note of is that often - for
disinfecting purposes - it is not the 3 percent off the shelf H202 that is
being used. It is the 35 percent food grade that is used for hot tubs,
cutting boards etc. You dilute it down, but not to 3%. 35% burns burns
burns! However, for mouth rinses, yes use 3%. We - at the health food
store where I work - actually had to quit selling it to one woman because
she would bathe in the 35% so much that her skin was turning white. (She
was from Columbia) She was also drinking a very diluted amount.

Moderation, Education, and above all Common Sense!

Please think about this:
1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and
hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I

Hey Melinda,
Yes, this is Transverse Myelitis Internet Club - TMIC.

This is my Transverse Myelitis e-mail address, because you're correct that we
can get 10 and/or more of e-mail per day.

Here is a wonderful welcome letter that Sandy did:
I always say...when Groucho Marx said, "I wouldn't want to be a member of any
club that would have someone like me for a member." He was talking about us.
That's the good old TM club! Nobody really wants to join. We don't aspire to
it.  Not an achievement really.

But once you are here everybody welcomes you!

Nobody listens to a bad "tap" story better than us. No one can relate to the
cozy comfort of a two hour MRI better than us.  And the waiting for
confirmation on a diagnosis or drug sampling is not appreciated anywhere in
cyberspace better than here.

I know a lot about drugs I have never tried. But when my time comes to try
them I know a LOT!

Whether its training your bladder, making peace with your bowels, or waltzing
gracefully through the side effects maze, this group knows how to coach
and counsel.
We are open 24 hours and FREE!
Welcome to you Melinda.
Pretty soon you will be old hat at this an offering advice yourself.
Take care,
Sandy in Wisconsin

I got TM on April 1, 2002 @ T-4 to T-8.  I have banding at this spot around my
stomach, it has gotten better over the years.  I still have drop foot, this is
when the foot drags on the floor, on my bad leg and my good leg is 75% back to
normal.  I have always walked with a walker in the house and use a wheelchair
when I go out.  My medications for pain is Lyrica 150 mg twice a day &
Nortripline 25 mg at night.  I'm still trying new medications for bladder &

Because everyone here are different, they will have difference problems and/or

Welcome to the TM group and post your question here so we can get to know your

Yesterday my ex wife and daughters duplex went up in flames. It started in
their neighbors part, unknown origin as of right now as to the cause. Please
keep them in your prayers, Red Cross has them in a hotel for 5 days and then
they are on their own. It was a total loss, and that was their car too that was
melted to nothing. Both are disabled; Sara has auto immune like me, Sally my ex
wife lost 2/3's of her right lung and both breasts to cancer and they are
worried it is in her lymph glands. And now this... Life is cruel...

Re: [TMIC] Fw: Tell me what annoys you most

2010-04-13 Thread Akua
I love the list, though sadly ( to me) these all seemed more
endurable than what bugs me the most:

1. What do you usually do?
Especially as this has only and ever been asked by health care and
social care folks, it is infuriating.
I know nothing about how to do most things as a paralyzed person and
30 seconds of reading would tell them that i spent over 50 years as
an able bodied person. This has been asked in the context of
complaining that the clinic was inaccessible; that i couldn't get in
the front door of the physical therapy
place ( and was told to write the building manager); and when I
complained about the lack of paratransit in my area.

2. You need to advocate for yourself.
Again the group above ( those supposed to help) are the first with
these words out of their mouths and again without bothering to assess
what I have done, tried to do, or my own obvious limitations. One man
who said this has now left the organization that was supposed to help
and over time confessed to me that my unheeded letters and certain
aspects of my situation were travesties.

3.It's only one step.
Down or over which my wheelchair would fall or spill me out.
4. Maybe someone could carry you.
Nice idea. Who, exactly

When I had transportation ( in another city) to grocery shop, I did
and it was damn hard.
I would have appreciated praise for doing it. I miss terribly the
access to shop for myself,
work, perform, go to the movies or a play , that I had at the painful
and terrible beginning
of my paralysis. I was constantly in fear and afraid, but closer to
my previous life

than I am now, where i can nowhere and do nothing outside my home.

Perhaps I should send these observations to the Reed Foundation, too.

I think it was the snow being shoveled into handicapped spaces this winter that

So help us let the world know the Top 10 things people do that drive you and

Sometimes a little education and enlightenment can do a lot to make life a

In response to the above:

Actually Jan, we have had issues such as this one and religious issues also
and I think a lot of us have come to the same conclusion that no one truly
means to offend anyone at all. We also agreed to try to 'alert' us that it
does not have anything to do with TM in order that we might delete it right
away. We are human. We make mistakes. Most of us try to be kind,
considerate, and compassionate people but sometimes we trip up and fail.
Our site is not black and white and sometimes we find something that we feel
strongly about to the point we want to share with our TM 'friends' and
sometimes it is not the right choice but again, we are only human. That is
where the 'delete' button comes inplease use it. I have and I'm sure
some have very quietly used it when I've sent something they thought
inappropriate. Thank you to those that did because I certainly did not mean
to hurt or offend anyone at the time... Jeanne Rushton, Dayton, WA

Janice you do NOT need to apologize to me. You did NOT offend me in the least.
I do look forward to all the e-mails pertaining to TM, but I also enjoy all my
TM e-mails I receive about topics other than medical. I am sure that those who
were offended were definitely in the minority. Remember, you cannot please
everyone all the time, only some of the people some of the time.

Lori and all TM'ers,
I am very sorry to have offended you or any of the TM'ers.I found this

Certainly an option very worthy of your
consideration!
Pass It On For Our Country
And the memory of our Founding Fathers

At least read this. Form your own opinion, even
if you disagree with this issue, but at least read it. You and I owe
that to our country

All I ask is that you consider the suggestion
here.

The entire Congress of the United States is
corrupt. And I mean both Houses and I mean both major parties.

I realize that a few Members of each House are
trustworthy, but, as a group
they are absolutely the most corrupt bunch to
ever disgrace our Nation.

In November of 2010 the entire House of
Representatives will stand for re-election;
all 435 of them. One third of the Senate, a
total of 33 of them, will also stand for re-election.
Vote every incumbent out.

And I mean every one of them. No matter their
Party affiliation.
Let's start all over in the House of
Representatives with 435 people who have absolutely no experience in
running that body, with no political favors owed to anyone but their own
constituents. Let's make them understand that they work for us.
They are answerable to us and they simply have
to

run that body with some common sense.

Two years later, in 2012, vote the next third of
the incumbents in the Senate out.

We can do the same thing in 2014 and, by that
time we will have put all new people in that body as well.

We, the People, have got to take this Country
back and we HAVE to do it peacefully.

That's what the Framers of our Constitution
envisioned.

I am also suggesting term limits on the NEW
BUNCH -- 8 YEARS FOR REPRESENTATIVES two terms that’s all.
AND
12 YEARS [2 terms] FOR SENATORS.
NO EXCEPTIONS. THE LONGER THEY STAY IN OOFICE
THE MORE POWER THEY GET AND THEY LOVE IT AND WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET
RE-ELECTED.

WE HAVE TERM LIMITED THE PRESIDENT –
NOW LET'S TERM LIMIT THE LEGISLATORS.

And we do away with their Special Retirement
system and their health program (they should have same health programs
everyone else in America does). When they are through serving their
country they go back to being private citizens. They should view their
service as a privilege; after all it was designed to be a part time job
to represent the voice of the people, NOT the special interest groups
and

those who can do favors for them.

If they don’t like this proposal then don’t run
for office…

Marijuana Policy Project Alert
   October 19, 2007

Join MPP's online social networking revolution
Dear Todd Tarno:
One of the easiest — and most fun — ways you can promote marijuana policy
reform is to get active in the world of online social networking.
Not only are the popular social networking sites a great way to show your
support for MPP, but you can also subscribe to our blogs and receive daily
notices to stay up-to-date on the latest happenings in the marijuana policy
reform movement, as well as meet and mingle with other supporters.
You can get active with MPP on the following sites:

• Become a friend of MPP on MySpace
• Join the MPP Facebook cause
• Become a friend of MPP on Facebook
(In order to view our Facebook pages you’ll need to be a member, so if you
don’t already have an account, just follow the “Sign Up” link on the
main Facebook page.)
• Subscribe to MPP's YouTube channel
• Become a friend of MPP on Digg
And there are many other ways you can help to end marijuana prohibition.
1. Tell your friends to sign up for MPP's free e-mail alerts. Send them to
www.mpp.org/subscribe today.
2. Send letters to your three members of Congress using MPP's free and easy
automated system.
3. Volunteer to circulate sign-up sheets to subscribe others to MPP's free
e-mail list. E-mail members...@mpp.org to get started.
4. Host a screening of the award-winning medical marijuana documentary Waiting
to Inhale in your community. Contact ke...@mpp.org for more information (and
please be sure to specify what state you live in).
5. Download MPP's printer-friendly handouts and brochures and distribute our
literature in your community.
6. If you have a Web site or blog, link to MPP's site by downloading our banner
ads, and encourage your Web site's visitors to check out MPP’s work.
7. Use this link to shop at Amazon.com. A portion of the proceeds from your
purchases will go to MPP.
8. Donate your car to MPP.
9. Search the internet with GoodSearch instead of Google: Each click generates
money for MPP.
10. Encourage your friends to visit www.mpp.org/donate to become dues-paying
members of MPP. MPP does not have an endowment or any revenue-generating
investments, so we are 100% dependent upon the donations that people willingly
give. This means that the extent of our campaigns is limited to the amount of
money that 23,000 dues-paying members, a handful of major philanthropists, and
new/future dues-paying members are willing to donate.
Together, one person at a time, our work is paying off. On behalf of all of us
at MPP, thank you for standing with us in this fight.
Sincerely,

Rob Kampia
Executive Director
Marijuana Policy Project

[TMIC] Fw: 2010 CENSUS important

2010-01-17 Thread Janice Nichols

This is on the level, Janice

Subject: FW: 2010 CENSUS important

REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASK, YOU REALLY ONLY NEED TO
TELL THEM HOW
MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT YOUR ADDRESS..

Be cautious when Census is in your area. Some good
information below:

2010 Census to Begin

WARNING: 2010 Census Cautions from the Better Business
Bureau

be Cautious About Giving Info to Census Workers by Susan
Johnson

With the U.S. Census process beginning, the Better Business
Bureau

(BBB) advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as
not to become

a victim of fraud or identity theft. The first phase of the
2010 U.S.

Census is under way as workers have begun verifying the
addresses of

households across the country. Eventually, more than
140,000 U.S. Census

workers will count every person in the United States and
will gather

information about every person living at each address
including name, age,

gender, race, and other relevant data.

The big question is - how do you tell the difference
between a U.S. Census

worker and a con artist? BBB offers the following advice:

** If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door, they will
have a badge, a

handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a
confidentiality notice.

Ask to see their identification and their badge before
answering their

questions. However, you should never invite anyone you
don't know into

your home.

** Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to
verify address

information. Do not give your Social Security number,
credit card or

banking information to anyone, even if they claim they need
it for the

U.S. . Census.

REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASK, YOU REALLY ONLY NEED TO
TELL THEM HOW

MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT YOUR ADDRESS..

While the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial
information, such as

a salary range, YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER ANYTHING AT ALL
ABOUT YOUR

FINANCIAL SITUATION. The Census Bureau will not ask for
Social Security,

bank account, or credit card numbers, nor will employees
solicit

donations. Any one asking for that information is NOT with
the Census

Bureau.

AND REMEMBER, THE CENSUS BUREAU HAS DECIDED NOT TO WORK
WITH ACORN ON

GATHERING THIS INFORMATION.. No Acorn worker should
approach you saying

he/she is with the Census Bureau.

Eventually, Census workers may contact you by telephone,
mail, or in

person at home. However, the Census Bureau will not contact
you by Email,

so be on the lookout for Email scams impersonating the
Census.

Never click on a link or open any attachments in an Email
that are

supposedly from the U.S. Census Bureau.

PLEASE SHARE THIS INFO WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Pfizer Corp. announced today that Viagra will
soon be available in liquid form, and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power
beverage suitable for use as a mixer. It will now be possible for a man to
literally pour himself a stiff one. Obviously we can no longer call this a soft
drink, and it gives new meaning to the names of "cocktails", "highballs" and
just a good old-fashioned "stiff drink". Pepsi will market the new concoction
by the name of: MOUNT & DO.

Thought for the day: There is more money being
spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This
means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs
and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

If you don't send this to five old friends
right away there will be five fewer people laughing in the world.

Amanda,
You may have arthritis there and I don't think I would use a chiropractor for
that. If you can take Advil, do so while adding moist
heat to affected area.See if this helps before doing anything else.
This was advice from my doctors about my neck and it really
helps. If not, try a therapist (that is not a pain nazi). You should ask
your doc for a specific therapist for this area of pain.

Yes, I use a chiropractor and I have nothing but praise for her, but then, I've
heard that other practitioners are not as good as others.

I have crepitation in my neck and spondylolysthesis at L2 and 3. Her
treatments have gotten rid of most of my pain, without any meds. But then,
my condition, am sure, is different than yours.Ger referrals and such
before you jump in.

Could not agree more, Janet. Same with all providers. There are lots of
chiropractors around but not all are good. We need to find one that fits
us' and that you can feel you can trust. Sometimes it takes a few visits.
The best advice is yours in asking around. j

I have always used a chiropractor. I used to take my kids to the

and the ear infection would clear up.

The chiropractor was my first appointment after my legs went numb. I
totally trust my chiropractor. But not all chiropractors are created equal.

Check around before you go to one. Ask friends and acquaintances for a good

Probably as well as any vehicle that gross weight and with that
diameter tires; all the weight is on the front tires and on the drive

Our local police use segways in town when we have "Rhythm and Roots Reunion"
in downtown Bristol, TN/VA, the birthplace of country music.  One almost ran
over me on my scooter.  I know, that's more information than you needed to
know, but those are the only ones I've seen live.  They would be as tiring as
walking since you have to stand up on them.  I don't think they'd go in the
snow.
Have a wonderful day!

Some of you may have seen this article in the newspaper but thought it was
interesting.  I've never seen a Segway in "real life,"  only a picture of one
Does anyone out there with TM use a "standup" Segway?

Q:

I understand that chia provides the body with lots of good. What is your
opinion of this food/supplement? - Edna

A:

Chia seeds are indeed a good source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids,
which may benefit your cardiovascular system by combating inflammation. They
are also an excellent source of fiber: According to _NutritionData.com_
(http://link.email.washingtonpost.com/r/X109GB/5E6JA/FDHNMJ/QT8NLE/7MJNN/28/h)
,
an ounce of chia seeds, at 137 calories, provides 42 percent of the Daily
Value for fiber (and 18 percent of the DV for calcium). Though the tiny
seeds are full of protein, that one-ounce serving provides just 4 percent of
the protein DV.

Q:

Does honey have any nutritional value? How about anti-inflammatory
properties, etc.? - Bob

A:

Though different varieties of honey (depending on many factors, including
what kind of plants the bees who make it have access to) have varying
amounts of vitamins and minerals, those amounts are all quite small.
Researchers
have long tried to pin down honey's anti-inflammatory properties, but I
can't find any evidence to suggest that eating honey reduces inflammation.
However, it does appear to have antibacterial and other qualities that help
wounds heal when honey's applied topically. Honey has about 21 calories per
teaspoon while sugar has 15.

Pureed cooked cauliflower makes a great base for a creamy-tasting soup that's
surprisingly rich in fiber. Despite its pale color, cauliflower's a great
source of Vitamin C.
Roasted Vegetable Salad

Here's another fiber-filled mix of vegetables, this time grilled and cooled for

Corn Salad With Feta and Walnuts
Real Simple
Corn's full of both soluble and insoluble fiber; the first kind helps soften

Walnuts are chock full of omega-3 fatty acids, which help fight inflammation,
among other benefits.

I'm always looking for healthful dips and spreads. This one features low-fat

a bit of fiber, too.

Subject: September 11, 2009

On Friday, September 11th, 2009, an American flag should be displayed
outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States. Every
individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this
eighth anniversary of one of the country's worst tragedies. We do this to
honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved
ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at
home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in
American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood
shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but
disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it
shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American
flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism
of all kinds.

Action Plan:

1. Forward this email to everyone you know (at least 11 people). Please
don't be the one to break this chain. Take a moment to think back to how you
felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.

2. Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly
the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on
this day.

Thank you for your participation. God Bless You and God Bless America!

In God We Tru
st!
