Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] operating question about power-off
First off, what are you expecting the power button to do? All it does is stop whatever is playing and invokes the "off" screensaver, which by default is the clock. It does not put the hardware into a "sleep" state that uses less power or any such thing. Just stopping the current playing song will cause the Touch to use less power. There has been a bug on this for quite a while with quite a bit of information. The latest info seems to be that under some circumstances when running the local server the internal clock does not get set. When the clock screensaver tries to start it notices that the clock is not set and won't bring up the clock display. If your reason for pushing the off button is to get into a low power mode your best bet is to set the off screensaver to "screen off", this will turn off the screen back light and stop anything playing. This will be the lowest power state the Touch can be in. If the reason for pushing the off button is to see the clock, you have to make sure the clock gets set. It gets unset when it reboots (powers up). If you have an internet connection it will try and connect to mysqueezebox.com from which it can set its clock. If you don't normally have an internet connection but can temporarily connect it you can do so and explicitly connect to mysqueezebox.com and the clock will get set. If you have no way to connect the Touch to the internet you will have to manually set the date and time. Unfortunately this is not easy. You have to use SSH to login to the Touch and use the linux date command to set the clock. You only have to do this once as long as the Touch doesn't reboot. Try setting the off screensaver to something other than a clock and see if it will come up when the power button is pressed. If it still does not come up there is something else going on and the developers will really want to know about it. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Easy way to change network key??
Thanks, you are being very helpful. Actually I don't know if all my devices in my network are WPS-compatible... my router is (totally forgot all about that button because my other hardwired router, same brand, has the same configuration menu). About the security issue - I was thinking about how easy it is to connect to the controller or receiver. Is all communication between controller and receiver (and Radio etc.) encrypted via WPA2 (or whatever you use). The PSK is stored in the units so I just want to be sure if it is secure there? Probably a stupid question because I am sure Logitech thought about that when they made these products... -- Altec Altec's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23276 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80308 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Easy way to change network key??
If you have a WPS-aware router, it should be sufficient to press the "Connect" Button on your router and select Configure-by-WPS on the Touch/Radio/Controller. In this case, the router will send the WLAN parameters including the PSK (encrypted) to your SqueezeBox. Altec;561897 Wrote: > What about the security issue? Will Squeezebox products affect that? Thanks. You are probably right flattermann, WPA2 is much more secure than WEP so it shouldn't be necessary to changed it often (unless you think it could have been leaked somehow). Thanks peterw, I was looking for an easy way to change it through the controller (not completely sure I could follow your method without using too much time) otherwise I will just reenter the key - just real boring to do. [SlimDevices: Touch] Where to get info on external hard disk showing usb compliant power consumption
Hi, we all know about the USB issues of the SB Touch regarding external hard disks and their power consumption during spin-up. There are a bunch of threads listing working and non-working devices, but I'm interested in the real startup (peak) current consumption of devices to find models compliant to USB spec (< 500mA). Thanks to both of you and sorry for my late reply. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch + NAS advantages?
Hello and many thanks for your replies. I am using the SB Touch in standalone mode attached to a USB 1TB Toshiba external HDD. I go out the coaxial digital output to my DAC a Audio Synthesis Dax Decade. I believe that my system is revealing enough to show relatively small improvements in the SB Touch perfromance. The main reasons I mentioned the Sheeva plug that make it an attractive device to me are. - Looks to be reasonably priced - Small and unobtrusive - Quiet - There appears to be alot of helpful info on setting it up with SBS I would want to use my current HDD with the sheevaplug and just use my laptop to rip additional music as and when I buy it. I don't miss the use of the plugins and would only be interested in the Sheevaplug if it improves the sonic performance of the Touch by taking the processing away from the touch and performing it all on the sheevaplug. Perhaps as mentioned, the sonic benefits of an external server are not clear cut though and it may be a relatively pointless expense. I am still a little unclear as to whether it is possible to do the flac decoding on a sheevaplug, is this possible?
