Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Tracks finishing early and skipping to next song

2010-07-21 Thread tony.s

For what it’s worth, without quantitative evidence we’ll never know just
how wide spread, or not, this problem really is. I reported it back in
April and someone else was kind enough to log it as a bug. That was 3
months ago… http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77809

I just gave up trying, which is sad considering I bought the Touch
because you could connect an external drive directly to it. Aside
from some casual internet radio listening I don’t have much use for the
Touch. It has been a big letdown.

Thank you very much, John.
I follow your instruction and power-off function is OK. And I set
screen off now.
Would you give me another instruction: If I didn't appendix or remove
any music files from my USB HD and I power on my Touch. Is there any
way to make my Touch not to scan my USB HD? I got 21GB music files and
it really waste my time.

aha. there does seem to be more problems with playing ALAC, m4a, mp4,
etc. files. So this helps narrow things down. For example, I play only
FLAC or mp3 files and don't see this problem on the Touch.

Matengawhat, im running osx 10.5.8, using a toshiba 250gb external
drive hook up to the touch. All my files are mpeg-4 audio. 90% of the
time i play a album start to finish the first song is cut off the last
~30 sec.

If it only happens on ALAC tracks it could be a bug in the built-in ALAC
decoder.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Playing Podcasts / Menu Configuration

2010-07-21 Thread saurus

In meantime I found by accident that there is for Squeezebox Classic an
entry "Podcasts" and "Podcast Player". Seems that "Podcasts" is using
the podcasts you enter on your Squeezebox Server (installing the
podcast plugin on the server). The other one is just having the
predefined stuff that you cannot change (at least I do not know how).

The workaround via Favorites is a good idea. But should not be the
final solution. I already need to use favourites to save my own
internet radio stations.

Anyway, would like to see that Logitech is improving this part a lot.
Cause it's quite annoying to see no easy way of using podcasts on the
new device generations.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] My Touch is loosing time

2010-07-21 Thread sebp

Here's the test I'm initiating:
1. Plugged my SB Touch to my UPS; the weather here is rather stormy
these days, and I don't want my test being spoiled by a little power
outage
2. Powered the Touch on; the system clock got updated correctly
3. Connected to the Touch and updated the RTC from the system clock
4. Disconnected the Touch from my network (so that it won't get any
chance to get the system clock updated until the test completes)
5. Connected a USB disk holding a backup of my whole music library to
the Touch, and launched a Random Song mix (in the hope that keeping the
system busy playing music will accentuate the clock drift)

Next step later this week:
6. Shut my local SBS instances and Internet connection down (to make
sure the Touch won't get a correct clock source when connected back to
my network)
7. Connect the Touch to my network
8. Check how both clocks behaved, and report back here

If the RTC appears to be reliable, I'll try to implement the fix I've
talked about.

You prove your assertions. I can't be bothered to defend the bleeding
obvious.

What is your problem

I'm trying - despite your best efforts, it would seem - to illicit some
information from the OP that might help resolve the issue.

The point is, it's not a problem that affects everybody... or even very
many people. In fact it would appear that only a tiny minority of users
have ever seen this. Therefore it is highly relevant. If we could
identify what that tiny minority have in common, perhaps a fix could be

The OP is using Touch with USB drive, so he is most likely using TinySC
so Windows Whatever shouldn't matter.

To the OP, What brand of USB drive are you using? What size is the
drive? How much free space is left on the drive? Is it USB powered or
External powered? Do you have any irregularly large album art (over
600x600)? Answers to these specific questions might help with
troubleshooting.

MOST do NOT have this problem. I've never seen it and I don't recall it
cropping up in beta testing.

I beg to differ: "most" do not have this problem. Many are using the
TOUCH with attached USB drive and playing just fine. In trying to
diagnose this problem, it would be useful for the OP to mention the
types of files he is trying to play (FLAC, mp3, ALAC, etc.) and the
number of tracks in the library.

Only the old style iPods can serve as a USB drive for the Touch. The
new ones will not work.

As for playlists, when using TinySC, there is a 100 song playlist
limit. The other things you are seeing are probably also TinySC limits
or features that are not supported when using TinySC.

This really is unacceptable. With all the beta testing, software updates
this is really amateurish on logitech's part.

Yes, playing music from my Ipod via the Touch is working fine.
I just connected the Ipod via the USB-cable to the Touch and started
SqueezeServer on Touch.
Via the menu item "My music" you can browse and play all music.
However the MIX-features doesn't work well. It has some limitations on
the amount of songs that you can play.

Thanks, but the artwork problem is not solved. In fact it got worse
after updating to 7.6 Deleted the squeezebox directory and did a
complete rescan. Result: Even more album covers are gone.

When I first got the Touch, I was very happy with it. Now it feels more
like a p.i.t.a

Please release a firmware version that actually works and fixes
problem.
