Nice thread! I have the exact same question - I need a usb powered hard drive, less than 500GB would do. So what should I buy, WD or Toshiba? (or something else?) I googled some of the recommended hard drives and got scared from all the bad reviews (I would like to keep my hard drive for more than 6 months...). I need help, please! What about memory sticks, cards etc. - is that an option and are they better for this purpose? I would like one that is able to power down and one that just works without delays and other problems. Please post the full name of recommended hard drives incl. model number so that I/we get the right one. Hello, a few week's ago an update was automaticly installed on my squeezebox touch. There was no chance to denied, so I had to agree to this. Since this time i have got the same problem too. When i start up my squeezebox-touch it's running well and i am able to access internet-radio-stations and my napster-account. Everything is fine. But, after a while, when i try to change the radio-station, the squeezebox-touch is not able to connet to mysqueezebox.com. But the music, i was listening before, is playing on! On the screen, i can see the spinning wheel behind the selected item. Sometimes the message "connecting to mysqueezebox.com" appears on the screen for a few minutes. Then the previous screen appears again with the spinning wheel behind the selected item. This goes on for hours. And still the music i selected first is playing on. The next day i am able to listen music again. And then, sometimes the problem starts again. Is there someone how knows the answer? Thanks, I'll look into WinSPC and give this a try. It looks like it would only take a minor tweek of this on my system to eliminate this minor annoyance. Other than that, I think the Touch is one of the coolest new toys I've purchased in a long time. I'm very happy with it. The performance, user interface, and sound quality is way better than I expected. If you're trying to connect to the old link left in My Network Places then you're still trying to connect to the SD card. An easy way to see the current shares available is to enter the Touch's name in Windows explorer. This is not true on the Touch, its a very different architecture. The GUI (key presses, touches and screen drawing) get handled by a program called squeezeplay running on the Touch processor. Key presses don't get "passed on" to the server, they get processed on the Touch, if squeezeplay determines they mean a change in the server it sends commands to the server to tell it to do something. In order to do what you are after squeezeplay would have to be modified to interpret your key presses appropriately and send the appropriate commands to the server. SP has an extension mechanism called applets which alows people to write code such as this and add them into SP. Applets are essentially the plugins for SP. If the function in question doesn't have a command that can be sent over the network it might take both a plugin in the server and an applet on the Touch. I am also having the same problem, rating doesn't work on the Touch when holding down the number botton. My guess is the Touch is handling the keypress, you see the image wobbles a bit and a beep to indicate the key press has been received, but rejected. It probably didn't pass the keypress to the Server which would trigger TrackStat. I used the setup described above and it worked fine with the SD card: I was able to transfer MP3 files to the SD card. Now I use a hard disk on the touch and I do not seem to be able to connect to the SB Touch using my XP computer. Sharing is still on. If I change the password or username at the Squeezebox and then try to login using Windows XP (the SB is listed in "my network places"). Unfortunately, access is refused because - according to Windows - I do not have the right network privileges for the device (unfortunately, the message is in Dutch, so I don't know the exact translation). Does anyone have an idea why this might happen? If it was WMA Lossless then it might actually work (on SqueezePlay in 7.6 anyway...). But it's totally uncompressed WAV! BAD Microsoft for spec'ing an inefficient format. The problem is this stream is actually WAV (!) wrapped in ASF. Which we don't support obviously. I don't have this problem since I wired my Touch , just a data point . I also run 7.6 beta ? maybe the fix is in that release. My server is also wired an 1,2GHz via-epia x86 mobo so not superfast,but not glacially slow as an old NAS. An unsupported combination - Softsqueeze works because an external decoder is being used - without specifying the OS the explanation gets too long to write. The work around - under WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes disable "Native" for Windows Media NOT WMA lossless.
