[SlimDevices: Touch] Internet tethering via iphone on the usb port

2011-01-17 Thread savenlid

I would think it would be wonderful if I could hook up my iphone in the
same way i do to my pc to get internet tethering to the touch

This way a can keep all my music at my home server and always reach it,
also no need to tag along usb memories or disks and also the internal
server will not have to run.

This in a land that has 3G nationwide (sweden) so bandwith should not
be and issue in my estimates.

Is this app already out there ?

I need ofcourse have my server on dns or fix ip from my isp

Thanks
/Nicholas

BTW: Of course, you could also build the playlist in SqueezeCommander.

Saving does not work yet (that's planned for SqueezeCommander 0.9.6)
but you could *build* the playlist in SqueezeCommander and *save* it
directly on the Touch.

2011-01-17 Thread 59volvo

I had the same problem with a seagate goflex 3tb usb drive. your problem
could be if your drive goes into sleep mode, make sure you have only 1
primary partition - no logical partitions. I never got mine to work,
but am using a hitachi out of the box 1TB drive which came formatted
fat 32. seems to be working pretty well. no one could tell me why the
seagate doesnt work. I got the hitachi last Sat for $79 at Fry's. I
could have got a 2TB Western Digital for $69 but it emphasized energy
efficient and I took that to = sleep mode so probably would not work
with the touch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Playlists

2011-01-17 Thread aubuti

First, you're really saving them with a .m3u extension and not .txt
right?

Second, you say that Travis "works fine". Do you mean it works fine
now, or that it doesn't work now, but used to work when you were
running SBS on your pc?

Third, what path does the Touch see for the playlist directory on your
USB drive? The path in new.txt definitely seems wrong. And you have two
different paths in Travis (/media/sda1/etc...) and Kings of Leon
(media/sda1/etc...). One is an absolute path and the other is relative
-- they can only both be right in special cases. One more difference
between Travis and KoL is that Travis has Unix end-of-lines, whereas
KoL has Windows end-of-lines. The Touch can probably read both, thought
I'd mention that in case you eliminate everything else.

I don't use a USB drive on my Touch, but the SD card I have in there
for photos is seen as /media/mmcblk0p1. I didn't give it that name, the
Touch assigned that path itself.

So the main thing is, are you _sure_ that the Touch sees your USB
library as /media/sda1? And if it does, are you sure the playlist
folder has adequate permissions for user 'squeezeboxserver' to read and
write to the folder?

Just logged on and saw your post so don't count me among those who look

The problem that you seem to be experiencing can be fixed by doing a
"Clear Library and Rescan Everything" rescan. I often have the same
problem which happens when during the "Look for new and changed music"
rescan the cover art is not properly scanned and added to the library
database. I would file a bug report but as with many other "bugs"
Logitech doesn't seem to feel that this an actual bug but rather that
it is a problem with my hardware.

Still not working.

I am choosing new playlist in winamp, adding in the files from
\\SQUEEZEBOXTOUCH\media-sda1\flac albums.

Then manage playlist and exporting it to
\\SQUEEZEBOXTOUCH\media-sda1\playlists.

I've attached 3 examples.

1) New - as exported from Winamp
2) Kings of Leon Live - tried modifying to match the Travis one below
that works fine.
3) Travis - works fine was created originally on my PC when I running
squeeze server on it. Touch now stand alone

ADM and ABX are two completely unrelated things! Please don't conflate
them.

Interestingly, most people so far seem to have stated that they can't
hear any differences/preferences on a quick a/b... seemingly the effect
of the mods only becomes apparent after extended listening, with no
comparative baseline...

I'm not telling you that I can't hear the differences. I never said
that. Please stop putting words in my mouth.

All I said was that double-blind ABX tests are a sham, because they
cannot prove or disprove anything. And my rationale for saying that is
that subjects of the double-blind ABX tests are being coerced into
undergoing these harsh tests, and are being placed under undue duress.
It is of little surprise that most people under such duress usually
exhibit inconclusive behavior.

Just for the record, I am able to very clearly detect the differences
between the modded and the unmodded Touch. These differences are NOT
subtle. In my experience, listening to the unmodded Touch is similar to
watching a 3D TV without the 3D glasses. Switch to the modded Touch, and
it feels like watching 3D TV with the 3D glasses on.

There is a difference between "not subtle" and "HGE."

But I think that repeated listening to the same short music segment is
unlikely to reveal either.

Listening for extended periods to a variety of music (which is how we
enjoy music when not in audiophiliac-masochistic mode) is a different
story.

No, when your player is connected to SBS on your PC then SBS uses MySB
in the background, which is why you have access to Favorites saved on
MySB when your player is actually connected to SBS. But it doesn't
work the other way, player on MySB cannot see Favorites on SBS.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] A Quick Question about Album Cover

2011-01-17 Thread Wirrunna

Is cover art embedded in at least one of the tracks on the album as well
as included as cover.jpg ?
You can check with mp3Tag. The embedded cover may not be a .jpg or may
be corrupt.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0

2011-01-17 Thread slackhead

For any one interested in ABX or blind testing I very much recommend
reading the following post by Thorsten Loech, who is a very well
respected audio designer with a lot of experience in this area:

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-source/168901-rf-attenuators-jitter-reducers-95.html#post2364759

In fact the whole thread is very interesting, if somewhat long (and
fraught) and sheds some very interesting ideas on the subject.

[SlimDevices: Touch] 32kHz sampling on digital output

2011-01-17 Thread Sergeauckland

Hello to all. I'm hoping someone can help me.

My Squeezebox Touch plays 32kHz sampled audio perfectly from the
analogue outputs, but won't output 32kHz sampling from the digital
output. According to Logitech's Tech Support, it should do that, and
they suggested I get the unit replaced, which has been done. The new
one does exactly the same as the old one. 32k sampling plays fine from
the analogue outputs, but there's no stream on the digital output. My
Bitstream analyser confirms there's no 32k stream.

Unfortunately, I only use the digital output, so this is a real
inconvenience for me.

Is this a known bug, or am I likely to be doing something wrong?

Thanks

S.

But the question is not if people hear 'some difference', but if they
hear the same difference on a certain round. As you listened to the
material and the modification before, you even know exactly beforehand
what to look for.

Then this is combined with you own pride: you bought so many expensive
audiophile stuff because you are the one that hears the subtle
differences that others fail to hear.
Now you are put on a test and you will think twice if you hear some
difference or THE difference.
In the end you could lose and you don't want that because that would be
detrimental to your status as the one with the best ears in town.

If the changes were subtle I might agree that blind test won't help
anymore.
But please reread most of the comments (including your very own): you
talk of HGE audible differences and now you are telling me that you
can't hear them anymore, just because you are blindfolded and don't know
if the changes are in place.

This is complete bullshit if you believe in your own words of how the
changes sound and if you only have some little trust in your ears
(which I sort of expect of everyone that buys expensive hardware).
