I'm basically looking for a way to have the RSS News Ticker as portion of the custom clock screen. Essentially an update of the RSS New Ticker in a more "multi-media" format for the Radio and Touch. It would be great to have the time and date along with the news headline and detail and possibly a small story image, if the feed provides it. You're almost there. I hope you find a reason to add it in the future. *B -- Bradley Bradley's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80402 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

In that case, there is still no connection between them so you currently need to configure them separately. If you can accept to configure them both in the RSS News Ticker and Custom Clock Helper, you can setup multiple "rsstext" item and put them in different "visibilitygroup" values, this will ensure that the first one is shown until it has gone through its RSS feed and it will then switch the the second one and then to the third one and... It's currently not as easy to configure as the RSS News Ticker where you can simply just list the RSS feeds, I'll consider improving the configuration in future versions but it will probably not happen in the near future. The best solution would probably be to add a new item that just read the configuration from the "RSS News Ticker" plugin. -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland). [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch As Pre-amp
I'm new to digital audio, so pardon if this question sounds asinine. I'm assembling a 2-channel music system. A pair of Magnepan 1.7's are on order and I've purchased an Emotiva XPA-2 (500 w/ch @ 4 ohms--the Maggies are massively power hungry). By all accounts on this board and others, the Touch's DAC is decent enough that most people can't distinguish its output from a much more expensive dedicated DAC. Since the Touch has a volume control I can't I need any additional gear for a decent hifi system. What I can't determine is whether the analog Touch outputs will drive the amp hard enough for use with very inefficient speakers like the Magnepan's. The book that came with the touch had no specification of the maximum voltage the Touch can output from the analog jacks. Is driving the XPA-2 with the Touch's analog outputs going to work? Emotiva also sells a relatively inexpensive digital pre-amp, but I can't see buying if I don't need it. Thanks for any advice. -- mraub1 mraub1's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43441 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85096 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

OK, I'm sticking a fork in:) But seriously, I personally find it intriguing that people embrace the 'norm' (the 'official', 'right' way of approaching the reality), and then have enough arrogance to even label it 'enlightened philosophy'. You are no doubt aware of the fact that, in the days long gone by, completely different approaches have also been labeled 'enlightened philosophy', approaches that are causing today's mainstream populace make fun of. Crowds will follow fashion, but fashion is fickle. At the end of the day, collective amnesia sets in. Someone ends up doing computer programming for a living (btw, I have 21 years of professional computer programming skills under my belt), and then they think that they have a licence to claim how they're much more 'enlightened' than some other people who don't know how to program computers. I'm calling bullshit on that. I know how to program computers, and I know that there isn't anything special about that skill. I'm quite comfortable with the idea that your own expectation bias leads to a REAL improvement in the sound THAT YOU PERCEIVE. That's great. These are free mods, and they do nobody any harm (apart from killing certain value added functions of the Touch, limiting your options for upgrading etc). What does annoy me though is the assumption that these mods, even if there's no way they can have the slightest physical effect on the output (the volume maximising mod for instance), will affect the sound THAT I PERCEIVE. The suggestion that I should try it myself before forming an opinion is insulting - as someone with a reasonable amount of programming experience, I can say with complete certainty that evaluating an algorithm and then substituting the result with the same hard coded value can have no effect. I don't need to test it in order to know that. It's rare that such a patently false claim comes along to illustrate this point. Normally the claim concerns something that is much harder to quantify - the effect of different interconnects, bi-wiring, power supplies etc. Anyone interested in improving the ACTUAL sound quality might feel compelled to shell out real money to test them, but once they've done that they've already been caught in the expectation bias trap, and it becomes incredibly difficult to get to the truth. This is a fairly accurate description of how humans perceive reality. Yes, you're right, reality has the tendency to wear off, people get fatigued by it, and need fresh experiences in order to kick start the process again. Eventually, tiredness takes the best out of even the most enthusiastic people, and then they die. What other factor is there, anyway? People are trying to pretend that their own subjective yardsticks don't matter, but it's just a product of the foolish attempts by those who would love to control others to subvert their self esteem. Everyone needs to eventually grow up and come to terms with the fact that it's all about subjective states and how you intimately feel about something. Nothing else matters. @Mnyb Yes, all connections are digital. Only analog devices in my system are a vinyl player and the chassis amps in the speakers. Also, all replay gain features are disabled although replay gain tags have been made for all flac files using foobar. But I have now updated all my software (SBS on Tranquil WHS 7.5.3 - r31792, Touch Firmware: 7.5.3-r9283) and will try again tomorrow. -- Fried Fried's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85048 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] How to lock audio output at 100% (I think)
Yes you can have the same result by simply keeping the volume at 100% and check that it is so from time to time . 100=100 But locking it is good then you can not adjust it by mistake which is easy to do , you have so many ways of controlling the SB and all of them can adjust volume ir remote controller web-UI and the Touch interface itself squeezeplay, Radio etc. This patch or the latest soundcheck mod replaces the same code in the same file so , or you can simply hack it yourself with ssh and vi . -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE rear ch. You probably thought correctly but mixed it up when writing it down: If you connect via digital, you in fact let the AV receiver do the conversion to analogue. If you connect using RCA (cinch), the Touch does the conversion. Like Phil says, let your ears be the judge! But there's one more thing. Some AV receivers convert all analogue input to digital for internal processing. In these cases, it only makes sense to connect any source digitally if at all possible, to avoid unnecessary loss of quality by back and forth D/A & A/D conversions. Also, if you have multichannel material (DTS encoded audio tracks), digital is the only option. Some AV receivers have a special operating mode where the analogue input is passed directly to the preamp, and no DSP is done (nor possible). In these cases, feeding analogue signal into the AV receiver is OK. I don't know about yours, you should be able to find the answer in the manual. Anyway, if you are doing any DSP (sound adjustment, EQ, surround) on the AV receiver, you should connect via digital. But in the end, what sounds the best to you is what matters. You might not be able to tell a difference at all. -Skinny -- Skinny This sentence says less than a list of audio equipment.
