Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Internet Radio Artwork?

2011-09-20 Thread tcutting

There is a way to get CustomClock screensaver to work with LastFM to get
band images. I use this with my now-playing screen on my Radio. There
may already be a screen built which uses this feature in Touch format.

Ah okay, I just assumed the artwork was sent in the stream to the
player but it looks like I was under the wrong impression. Is there
any way to mimic this type of behavior with a Squeezebox Touch? More
specifically, the cover art would be fetched and displayed while the
song is playing. Possible?

[SlimDevices: Touch] Internet Radio Artwork?

2011-09-20 Thread Avenger

I've noticed that on some of the internet radio stations I use on my
Squeezebox touch that only default artwork (usually the same as the
icon from the station selection list) shows up. I tried a different
app on my iPad for listening to internet radio on the same station and
the cover for the current song shows up in it. Is squeezebox not
compatiable with all forms of artwork from these stations? I am not
running my own squeezebox server, would this help?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Need advice on Netgear NAS vs Additional Drive

2011-09-20 Thread Jools100

Yeah, 7.8 MBps is what I thought (well 8 MBps / 64 Mbps). That's slow
for a wired connection. Maybe your disks are a factor, but there must
be another reason. Are you copying from an attached hard drive
(attached to the laptop)? If so it might be better to attach the hard
drive to the NAS directly. I'm not sure what the transfer rate is
using Windows CIFS, but I would have thought that this rate is a bit
slow.

I would recommend updating Raidiator to 4.2.19. It's possible that this
will resolve the temp issue. I don't want to offer a false dawn but my
(hazy) memory of recent Radiator updates is that one of the last 2 or 3
caused a problem with the temp reporting. I do recall that apparently
there was no issue with the actual temp, just a misreporting issue.
Still, worth fixing though!

Well you're pretty much there now. I remember my stress levels spiking
during the same exercise, but thankfully it all worked out. I hope it
continues to work out for you :-). Oh, and if you haven't done so
already, check out the squeezebox controller apps (iPeng,
Squeezepad, etc). I use Squeezepad on an iPad and it's amazing. Great
support too from the developer, which although I have hardly had cause
to use is good to know it's there.

Happy Listening!

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] New to Touch and already tons of Issues...

2011-09-20 Thread R Johnson

The Western Digital "My Passport" drives came with two partitions the
last time I looked. There's a procedure to make the "CD" software
partition invisible I think.

As the Touch was designed before USB3 came out, perhaps that's part of
the problem with flash stick.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] New to Touch and already tons of Issues...

2011-09-20 Thread toby10

Some basic Touch + USB/SD troubleshooting...

USB or SD card devices

- Check the formatting of the device, Touch supported formats: FAT16,
FAT32, NTFS, ext2, ext3
- Touch can only see/use a single partition, format as a single
partition, or use only the first partition for all relevant music
files
- Remove any included device “utilities” as these can cause issues
- Make sure there is at least 10% free space (20% even better)
- Remove any non-music related files (videos, documents, programs,
pictures, data, etc…)
- Or, if removing such files is not an option, place a . (dot) in front
of folders that are not music related (folders not containing music
files, album art, playlists). A simple (dot) in front of a folder
means that TinySBS will ignore these and (hopefully) greatly speed up
scan times.
- Attach device directly to your computer and run basic maintenance
utilities (disk cleanup, error checking, defrag)
- Place a small, single folder of music on the device for initial
testing (why have it scanning for hours if it isn’t going to complete
the scan)

USB HD

- Try an external USB power source, HD power supply or a powered USB
hub. (Touch may not have enough bus power to power the USB HD)
- Try a different USB cable
- HD Sleep mode can cause issues (may have to completely rescan HD
every time it “wakes”)
- If you turn OFF Touch or HD, or unplug HD, Touch must completely
rescan the entire HD

[SlimDevices: Touch] problem: All my iTunes playlists are gone

2011-09-20 Thread alleseter

In order to try to get new iTunes playlists visible in my Squeezebox
Touch I've chosen to "wipe the collection and scan anew" (or something
like that, in Dutch "collectie wissen en opnieuw scannnen". My music
has returned in the squeezebox, but my playlists are all gone. How do I
get them back?

The "tinySbS" in the TOUCH is really not particularly useful. You'll be
much happier running full squeezeboxserver (SbS) on a PC, powerful NAS,
sheevaplug, vortexbox, etc.

There are enhancement requests in place to skip the scanning when using
the TOUCH and simply allow folder browsing. Search this forum for info
on this.

Also, the TOUCH seems to be very picky about what sort of USB drive
works. Some work well, some not at all. And you must insure that there
is not any sort of extra partition. Many newer USB drives come with a
built in 2nd partition that performs as some sort of virtual drive.
This is a problem for the TOUCH. But again, I recommend NOT using the
built SbS with the TOUCH. Too limited and as you can see, problematic
unless everything is just perfect. Search this forum on "Touch USB"
and you'll see lots of discussion and suggestions.

The Touch is a very nice piece of equipment, but the "tinySbS" is
really not ready for prime time for most users

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Programmable channel switch?

2011-09-20 Thread castalla

Another failure of the so-called alarm system - alarm activated - stupid
thing sits there with 2 options - snooze or switch off alarm. No remote
response - have to touch the screen ... and station just says stopped -
doesn't play.

Don't think this is going to match my request for a channel switch
timer.

Are there any instructions for Touch alarm settings?

[SlimDevices: Touch] New to Touch and already tons of Issues...

2011-09-20 Thread stirliz

Hi there

If my post is in the wrong section, please feel free to move it!

I recently bought a Touch and updated it to the newest available
Version 7.6.1.
Now I have a series of issues with the device, making it very hard to
use:

First of all - the playback of Music through USB devices - I was
shocked when the SBT did not recognize and 16Gb A-Data USB3 Flash
stick, I thought it might be the file system, so I have reformatted it
to NTFS (with Windows 7) - same result. It does not see it.

Then - I have attached a 1Gb USB 3.0 WB Passport - it recognized it,
but never managed to scan the music to the end - it took ages and out
of 3-4 time i tried it it never was able to finish the scan due to some
"unexpected" error,

Really? How come that a primitive Samsung BD player manages to find all
the music within SECONDS whereas a dedicated Music player takes ages to
scan, and it even cannot finish it. Why not to add kust a mode that
attaches en external drive without scanning, and than give a
possibility to browse the directories and play from there - it is not
very elegant, but it you are not able to fast scan the drive, than it
is an only option for people that want to use Touch as a stand alone
device.

Another bug that goes on my nerves - many times when I shutdown the
touch a Screensaver will not be displayed - just a black screen. I have
to either restart or reinstall the firmware to be able to see it, and
than it disappears again.

Then comes the Android software complain - why can't I playback some
media that is stored on my Android on the touch? And why it does not
play CUE files that are in the same folder as the FLAC?

All in one, the only thing that works well is the Internet Radio - I
find it very pity that such a good concept is being trashed by a sloppy
software architecture.

It's 7.6 version of the software, and I assume that when you buy a
device that is 2 years on the Market, it should be at least polished to
do what it is supposed to do in the first place - namely, play music
from various sources, and not only from a PC installed server!

Now my question - am I missing something? Might be I do something
wrong?
