Glad to see it helps you as much as it did for me. Two extra pieces if
you want:

1- if you want to make these changes "permanent" (resist reboot), I
would avise to create a squeezeos-boot.sh file that contains the
commands below, at the root of your disk (/media/mmcblk0p1 in your
case)

 CUT HERE
#!/bin/sh
/media/mmcblk0p1/bin/busybox mkswap /media/mmcblk0p1/bin/swapfile
/media/mmcblk0p1/bin/musybox swapon /media/mmcblk0p1/bin/swapfile
 CUT HERE

and make this script executable

chmod a+x /media/mmcblk0p1/squeezeos-boot.sh

This was not enough in my case. The init script that executes
squeezeos-boot.sh on every mounted device is executed too early and the
USB disk is not yet mounted at this time. The USB key must be faster but
if it is not fast enough (check with "free" after reboot), just insert a
"sleep 10" line in /etc/init.d/rcS just before the block in charge of
the squeezeos-boot.sh execution.

With the USB disk, I actually need a "sleep 20".

2- don't eject the SD card without turning swap off using the following
command:

/media/mmcblk0p1/bin/busybox swapoff /media/mmcblk0p1/bin/swapfile

I can confirm this works perfectly. Just did it on mine.

yeah, i dread resetting and re-doing everything! tt -s shows most
important mods to be enabled: wi-fi and ir. the priority mod is the
one creating the errors.
just deleting tt in /usr/bin doesn't do the trick as expected.

since touch sounds good, i think i'll just live with it as is. for
now...

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch and NAS

2011-12-15 Thread thyname

I got it today, and I have to say: this is an amazing device! Setting it
up was a breeze. I connected it to my Home Theater system: a flagship
Pioneer receiver and Axiom speakers. I connected it to my network
through ethernet cable and it started to work right away.

I was able to connect it to my NAS Apple Lossless music files via my
old laptop and the Logitech Media Server installed on it. It worked
great, great quality of music and no buffering or playback stops. Very
happy with the setup! Thank you for all your help guys and for your
suggestions. The setup is fine for now. I will certainly look in the
future to add other devices in my setup, possibly a NAS (or other
device you have suggested) with SB server built in, an external DAC and
so on.

Resetting the touch is a definate pain in the ass. You have to do all
the recommended touch setting on it again, specifically logging. Ugg.

I'm going to use tt to revert back to rollback tt. Upgrade the
firmware. Extract the tt tar file again. Tweek the tt file to my
taste. Initialize tt and do the specific mods.

I would certainly try, first, to delete the TT 3.0 files if you can
find them easily, then reinstall TT. If, when you then try to
reinstall TT, it tells you it's still there, the easiest way to for
sure get rid of TT is to factory reset the Touch.

Yeah, absolutely. The factory reset will wipe the TT files clean.
Fortunately, if you don't need to do the factory reset, installing TT
is fairly simple and quickredoing all the Touch's settings after a
reset is what takes most of the time.

The latest server is 7.7.1 - mysb.com has also the same settings. So,
if you don't update, then you are always going to get a prompt whenever
you go via mysb.com. If you update then switch off automatic updates,
you won't get a firmware prompt until mysb.com is updated sometime in
the future.

Did you do a factory reset *after* updating the firmware *but before*
reinstalling TT3.0?

If not, that was most likely the problem.

TT is working fine for me on 7.7.1. Maybe try deleting and
reinstalling the the whole tt file. In the past, the Touch firmware
updates overwrote the old firmware, necessitating a complete reinstall
of the mods.

I actually had a problem with the Touch's firmware update hanging up
and wound up needing to do a complete Touch factory reset. Of course,
this also required reinstalling the TT file and redoing all off the
Touch's configuration mods. A bit of a pain, for sure, but at least I
know that TT 3.0 will work, given a fresh install.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Software updates

2011-12-15 Thread toby10

Using the Touch's own server is a very good workaround to the server
update loop. But, yes, it must have either a USB or SD card attached
to function.
BTW: look around your home, in those old junk drawers, might find an
old SD card laying around, my Touch is using an ancient 65mb SD card
from my old Palm

Beyond that your options are:
- update your local LMS to the same version as the current
MySqueezeBox.com version
- don’t switch between them (always keep player on LMS)
- do switch between them and ignore the update prompt (hit Home button
on Touch & Radio)
- do switch between them and do the update/downgrade each time (as you
are doing now)
