Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch and Power Switch II ?

2011-12-19 Thread Pascal Hibon

I use the PowerSwitch II on my SB3 too. It is controlling the amplifier
to power the speakers in my bathroom ceiling. I believe this should be
a standard feature in the Squeezebox devices. Due to the lack of a
Squeezebox with built in amplifier there are situations where the
PowerSwitch plugin is very usefull and this is missing on the Touch.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch and Power Switch II ?

2011-12-19 Thread jmhine

I have a Squeezebox Touch which I can control from my IPad. Is there a
way to turn on and off my receiver at the same time ? I ran across
something called Power Switch II, but it seems to be for older devices.
Is there something similar for the Touch ?

Thank you,

[SlimDevices: Touch] Logitech Media Server won't start

2011-12-19 Thread mikeos

My hard disk crashed yesterday so I re-downloaded Logitech Media Server
on to my laptop intending to play some music I have on it. However
although Media Server seemed to install correctly it will not open. I
set it to open at login, but it just hangs. Even when selecting Open
manually, it seems about to start, but the displays the message Media
Server Stopped. I've DL it twice but no joy. My Touch works perfectly
otherwise and I am playing Internet radio stations as normal, but can't
play music on my computer. Any solution please?

Sorry to hear about the run-around they gave you. Will they exchange
the unit for one that works? I think it may be worth your while to try
again.

So far, my SR300 has worked flawlessly. It (+ Monster Cat6 cable) made
quite a difference in sound quality.

Skip the conversionplace a symmetric oval stone 2 centimeters in
front of the dead center of the TOUCH and when playing any files they
will sound better(assuming you used a green magic marker to draw on

Hi all. It appears that it's increasingly difficult to get the older
Toshiba Canvio drives that are well spoken of on this forum at a decent

Thanks

Thanks all for the input; I just sent the Repeater back. Guido, it was
the same model as you have SR300 but it was not configured as a bridge

My personal and highly subjective opinion: If you appreciate the subtle
almost-sciencey magic of monocrystal $2000 power cords with vacuums,
teflon tape and kevlar socks for improved acoustic dampening, etc., you
might want to keep trying. If you're on the sane side on the audiophile
spectrum, however, my answer is yeah, forget it, spend the time on
listening to music instead. :)

[SlimDevices: Touch] Any reason to covert FLAC files to other format?

2011-12-19 Thread cwon

I've heard some opinion that FLAC files converted to WAV or AIFF files
sound better than the original FLAC.

Curious about the difference, I tried to convert some FLAC files from
HD Tracks to AIFF files using Max and XLD, but when I tried to play
them on my TOUCH, all I got was white noise.

Any advice on this?

I'm using the TOUCH as a stand alone, and the FLAC files play without
problem. Should I just forget about conversion?

2011-12-19 Thread dasmueller

I seem to recall that when I researching the Touch it was advised to not
have artwork larger than 150 x 150 pixels if running it using Tiny SC.
That is what I did and had no issues such as you describe.

"Please tell me how you got the Touch to "play nicely" with your usb
hard drive.

I have a 500 gig Maxtor, and have not managed to get them to work
properly together yet!"

I am not familiar w this drive but it is recommended that one use a USB
drive w a power adapter rather than self-powered. That being said I used
a Toshiba Canvio 2.0 1TB drive w Tiny SC and had no issues w
approximately 18K Flac files w embedded artwork.

Most of my cover art is embedded. Sizes between 250x250 and 500x500
pixels, or between 20kb & 80kb. Not had any problems with music
lagging while cover art loads. I run a powered Freecom 1GB ext drive

Since the display has 480x272 pixel, maximum reasonable size is
272x272.
But don't forget that this size is only for full size cover display
without text. If album and artist is displayed, the cover must be

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Empty itunes playlists on SB Touch after library change

2011-12-19 Thread Pascal Hibon

It sounds like you’ll need to use the iTunes plugin. You first need to
install the plugin (through the plugin tab in LMS). Next enable and
configure the iTunes plugin.
If you’re using the iTunes plugin then the music folder entry in the
basic settings need to stay empty. Same for the Playlists Folder. The
iTunes plugin takes care of all this.
Be sure to install LMS 7.7.1 because previous versions have issues with
the iTunes plugin.
