Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 'local service stopped' error message: related to USB power or album art?

After cleaning up tags & removing non-music files from the drive, less error messages popped up. But since I haven't been able to stop the error from occuring altogether, I made the switch to running a full server. I'm using the same external drive, but now connected to an old desktop computer, using Vortexbox. Scrolling through the collection is significantly smoother. Wake-on-lan also works flawlessly, so that keeps the power consumption reasonably low. -- Ronnus Ronnus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41824 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83610 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 'local service stopped' error message: related to USB power or album art?
I have moved the music collection, without editing album art or tags, to the WD Elements 500 GB. Looks like this is a more stable solution. The 'local music service stopped'-error has popped up one more time, but only during the initial scan, when I was messing around with internet radio in the meantime. The drive is a bit slower than the 2,5" bus-powered one (longer time between selection of albums and actual music start). Otherwise, there are no significant problems. -- Ronnus Ronnus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41824 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83610 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 'local service stopped' error message: related to USB power or album art?
This morning, after restarting the touch from standby, the connection to the USB drive was lost. I had to eject the drive (which tooks some tries as it was 'in use' according to the Touch). I'm now in the process of moving my collection to a different, powered, USB drive (WD Elements 500 GB), to rule out power shortage as cause of the errors. In the meantime, I'm running the server from a desktop-PC which works flawlessly. nthx, I agree that some more details in the error messages would make problem-solving easier. I guess that right now, the 'local service stopped' message can be caused by various causes. -- Ronnus Ronnus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41824 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83610 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 'local service stopped' error message: related to USB power or album art?
It is a 'Medion drive-n-go'. I have also a WD Elements 500 GB available (an older model) for other backup purposes. I could switch the two, but I prefer to keep the small one dedicated for the SB Touch if possible. Running a separate server is out of the question. I'd rather make a selection of music to put on an SD card, since I bought the SDT to get rid of a laptop, which doesn't look great in a living room and has considerable start-up time... (I just started my squeezebox and the harddrive functioned immediately. I can thus rule out that the harddrive going to 'sleep' is the problem) Well, I'm off to find a good MP3-tagging program. -- Ronnus Ronnus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41824 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83610 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] 'local service stopped' error message: related to USB power or album art?
I am sometimes getting the message: 'local music service has been stopped due to a problem' on my (brand new!) SB Touch. I keep my music collection on about 60 GB of a 320GB 2,5" bus-powered harddisk. As far as i know, this drive has no 'sleep' or 'power saving'-functions. The music collection contains probably quite a few (too) large image files. Few other files besides music files and album art are on the disk. Ca. 30% of the songs are FLAC, 70% are MP3 (of 256-320kbps). About 10.000 in total, I think. Scanning the disk / creating the library of songs has not resulted in problems. What would be the most likely cause for this error: The USB drive having no external power? Album art is too complex causing memory shortage on the server? Some other cause? I suspect that the lack of external power to the USB drive is a likely cause, but I'm not planning to buy a new one if this error is normally not associated with USB power shortage. (Regardless the cause, I should tidy up the album art / tags in the collection, but that will take some time...) -- Ronnus Ronnus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41824 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83610 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
