Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 7.6 testing - Native WMA Pro and Lossless

2010-08-05 Thread strindl

I downloaded and installed Version: 7.6.0 - r31169 on my computer, and
then updated my touches from there. The touch that is running it's own
server and accessing the wma lossless files from the WD USB hard drive
hooked directly to that touch seems to operate just fine...artwork
shows on the touch display.

I wanted to try some more out of the ordinary wma lossless files and
found that the DTS encoded ones I have play the center channel and
surround channels but not the left and right mains. My preamp is
showing that 5.1 sound is being received from the digital input hooked
to the touch, but no sound from the left and right mains.

That same wma lossless DTS encoded file plays fine when playing from
the sbs on my computer through the touch, but not when using the server
in the touch and the USB source. That could be a horsepower issue...the
server in the touch doesn't have the power of the one running on my
computer.

Regular 44 khz two channel ripped CD's play fine on the touch server
though, in wma lossless.

One issue. The artwork does not appear on the touch display or on the
Duet controller when using the sbs running on my computer.

Ok..now I understand what the purpose of this update is. I wasn't aware
until tonight that I was not able to use my WMA lossless files when
running the touch from it's internal server with a USB device source.
It doesn't recognize the wma lossless files without the SBS software
running on my computer to act as a go between.

I'll give this another shot and see what happens.

Thanks, but the artwork problem is not solved. In fact it got worse
after updating to 7.6 Deleted the squeezebox directory and did a
complete rescan. Result: Even more album covers are gone.

When I first got the Touch, I was very happy with it. Now it feels more
like a p.i.t.a

Please release a firmware version that actually works and fixes
problem.

If you have an external server you can upgrade that to 7.6, then when
you connect the Touch to it it will automatically upgrade the firmware.

Alternatively you can go to:
http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.6.0/
and download fab4.bin. Put this on a USB stick or SD card, plug into
the Touch and reboot. Then go to the update firmware page and you
should have an option for updating from media, select this and it will
load the new firmware (including the internal server).

Just make sure that you either delete the whole .Squeezebox directory
on the disk, or do a clear and rescan. Deleting .Squeezebox is probably
a safer bet.

7.6 is supposed to have a whole new artwork implementation, so it might
fix things.

There seems to be a slight glitch with the artwork scan with this 7.6
version. I reverted back to the latest 7.5 beta and it did an artwork
scan as a part of the initial new or changed music scan. That brought
all of the artwork back to normal. I never noticed the 7.6 version
doing an artwork scan.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 7.6 testing - Native WMA Pro and Lossless

2010-07-18 Thread strindl

I have it installed. When I first started up the SBS with the new
software, it went into scanning for new music mode, and when it was
done, there were only two CD's showing up.

I did a delete and complete rescan, and it finished showing no CD's at
all. I then rescanned for new music and all thousand re appeared. The
artwork doesn't show any longer on the Duet remotes or the Touch now
playing screen. All of the artwork is in the same directory as each
CD's tracks on my hard drive.

The music all plays just fine. The scan ahead and back within a track
does not function though. How else could I tell whether the WMA
lossless files are being handled natively by the SBS?

One advantage of having native support for wma lossless would be the
ability to fast forward within a track, right? I need to download

OK what you're describing really has nothing to do with this, you
basically did the same thing you can do with FLAC by wrapping the DTS
bitstream in another container. That's the only way you can do
multichannel with a Squeezebox.

I ripped several of my DTS 5.1 encoded audio CD's into wma lossless
format and they all play perfectly in full 5.1 DTS surround on both the
Duets and my Touch. I just used the windows media player to do the
ripping. The Touch and the Duets pass through the DTS encoded surround
information from their digital outputs and the pre amp processors
recognize that and activate their DTS decoding. My Integra preamp
shows the incoming signal to be full 5.1 surround. Sounds really good
too.

I do have a couple DTS encoded audio CD's that have a 24 bit 96K DTS
track. I haven't tried ripping any of those yet. They won't play with
the Duets of course, not sure about the Touch.

No, because they are stereo devices. WMA does support downmixing to stereo
which I haven't yet enabled but plan to look at soon. I think the only way to
get surround playback with WMA is with a PC soundcard.

I have all of my thousand plus CD's ripped into WMA lossless and they
all play fine on my touch and duets. One thing I have noticed is in
trying to play downloaded HD tracks in wma lossless that are supposed
to be 5.1 surround, from a place like itrax for example, my Integra DHC
9.9 doesn't see the music as surround..it sees it as two channel only.
Would this new beta version of the SBS help with that situation?
