According to this article, Gay Twitter strongly came out in support of the
performance. When I get some time I'll post this on the Facebook pages of
all the LGBT crowd who criticized it.

I assume almost all of the Pearl Clutching is a sham to cover opposition to
JLo’s graphic reminder that Puerto Rico is part of the USA. The pole dance
sequence was a nod to Jenny’s popular and critically acclaimed movie from
the summer. The parent of any kid too young to see that and still knows
what it alludes has to ask themselves some hard questions. And, as noted
above viewers of the NFL regularly see as much or more sexually charged
material from cheerleaders and beer commercials.

I think the Queer Community’s hostility to the show (the extent of which is
somewhat exaggerated) is related to a desire to prop up Gaga’s show. I am
not a huge fan of the music of either of the women this year (I recognized
1 by Shakira and 2 by JLo), but in the terms that a show like this is
usually judged it was clearly successful, and far more so than last two
dreary attempts.

I don't watch the halftime show and haven't for years. When I looked at
Twitter during the third quarter the football writers were saying it was
worse than Janet Jackson and referred to it as a pole dance. On Monday my
feed divided the halftime show reactions into political camps with
conservatives saying it was inappropriate for children and somebody needs
to do something about and others saying that it was exactly at the level of
what NFL cheerleaders do at every game. And we should also all know that
this "controversy" has run its course and is ready to disappear forever.

I watched the halftime show on YouTube. I have been to a Super Bowl and
seen how rushed it is to get the stage put up and get everybody ready to
perform. That favors small and simple acts and staging, so I admire them
for their ability to pull it off with all the dancers. I was also wowed by
Shakira's energy.

Here is a press release from something called Culturintel



According to many opinions online, The Super Bowl Half Time show was too
provocative and should have come with a warning for children.



Though it may seem that this was overwhelmingly true across the world,
Culturintel is here to say otherwise.



Culturintel’s research on the sentiment of the Super Bowl Halftime show
found that 27% of the public found the show exciting and entertaining,
while only 5% of the Latino audience felt that way (see image below).
Additionally, the company found:



The general public was more positive about the half time show this year
(70%) than last year (65%)
15% of the Latino community felt the performance was too suggestive,
compared to 8% of the general public
The overall general public sentiment was incredibly positive as well, with
73% feeling positive about Jennifer Lopez and 77% feeling positive about
Shakira
2.6 million conversations about the Super Bowl half time show within the
first 8 hours after the performance

 halftime at Steelers games. I'd stay in my seat and feel sorry for the acts
 as two thirds of the crowd went to the concourse and the acts played to
 what looked like an empty house. I've since realized that they were playing
 to an audience of 20,000 and that's much larger than they would ever play
 to. Therre was one exception - Taylor Swift performed there when she was
 breaking in - and she's played to larger crowds since.

weren't on camera.
Beyonce probably has the best halftime performances. But they've had some
real turkeys. I'm happy with this one.

 JLo also toured North America this year, been on a couple of network shows, 
and recently finished one of those now commonplace Las Vegas 'residencies' the 
older pop acts seem to like.
Sure, they aren't going for the young demo, but this seems like a reasonable 
play for the Latinx demo from a pretty fussy organization.  YMMV, but they've 
played it pretty safe nearly every year since Jackson/Timberlake in 2004.

I had to look it up. Jennifer Lopez is 50 and Shakira is 42. Not exactly trying 
to appeal to the younger generation.
Heinz Field used to bring in country/americana acts to play during halftime at 
Steelers games. I'd stay in my seat and feel sorry for the acts as two thirds 
of the crowd went to the concourse and the acts played to what looked like an 
empty house. I've since realized that they were playing to an audience of 
20,000 and that's much larger than they would ever play to. Therre was one 
exception - Taylor Swift performed there when she was breaking in - and she's 
played to larger crowds since.

I don’t know about that. JLo is currently starring in the biggest box
office film of her career (and looks hot as hell in it). She won’t do as
well in the demo as, say, a Korean Pop group, but I think the NFL can do

I think Jennifer Lopez still has more mainstream appeal than Shakira. To
me, Lopez is the more talented of the two, though I’m not really a fan of
pop music.

Spoken as someone who grew up going to Buccaneers games at Tampa Stadium (the 
Big Sombrero): the only good halftime acts are dogs catching Frisbees, and 
marching bands from the historically black colleges and universities.
