Re: [twsocket] [OT] Nice forum engine based on the mailing list
Francois, could you just open main page of that resource and read? It's not something new. It's just a front-end to twsocket@elists.org. It even doesn't use accounts from mail list - user must register separately. Just a damn simple front-end to make life easier. Of course, you're the overlord and everything about ICS is in your hands but I really don't see any reason to reject it. -- A.S.. -- To unsubscribe or change your settings for TWSocket mailing list please goto http://lists.elists.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/twsocket Visit our website at http://www.overbyte.be
Re: [twsocket] [OT] Nice forum engine based on the mailing list
I would loose control on the group Loose control in what sense? My understanding is that the nabble service will just archive the mailling list, and preset it in a forum alike manner. Similar, but better, to the already available here http://www.archivum.info/twsocket@elists.org/ And in systems such as Google groups (and all the others, I suppose) you can set it up to moderate all the post, and new users registration. From the email interface work exactly as with the elists, but has a better web interface. -- To unsubscribe or change your settings for TWSocket mailing list please goto http://lists.elists.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/twsocket Visit our website at http://www.overbyte.be

As I already said a lot of times in the past, I don't want a newsgroup because I would loose control on the group. Re: [twsocket] [OT] Nice forum engine based on the mailing list
Guys, I know most of you are fond of newsgroups and all that stuff, but no one tells you to stop using them. The resource I've found provides an additional forum-like interface for the maillist, with no efforts for the admins excepting first-time registration. You may continue using what you like while other people like me who are incompatible with newsgroubs could use what they like. P.S. It also saves from wrong topics and replying from other mail account what happens to me quite often. -- Anton -- To unsubscribe or change your settings for TWSocket mailing list please goto http://lists.elists.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/twsocket Visit our website at http://www.overbyte.be

When time allows I'll have to find a final solution with or without Live Mail. Try Thunderbird. Simple, full featured, and with plenty of add-ons (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/) to extend it further. And, as developer, you can create your own extensions ;-) -- To unsubscribe or change your settings for TWSocket mailing list please goto http://lists.elists.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/twsocket Visit our website at http://www.overbyte.be

For old school users the GUI is simply not intuitive, ribbons just look shiny, that's all what they provide IMO :( I have a rock solid mail environment with an anti-spam pop3 proxy, switching to Live Mail will probably cost me days until I can be sure that I'm as safe as now (without having to run a background AV scanner). I had the impression from the description that it is only some kind of strange webmail client with built-in spy. Fortunately there's the free Thunderbird for SMTP and NNTP available as well. After using OE for ages, I tried both Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird for a while. I settled on Thunderbird because it retains more of the elements from OE that I liked, along with some nice additions like tabs and more settings that apply to individual accounts instead of global. -- To unsubscribe or change your settings for TWSocket mailing list please goto http://lists.elists.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/twsocket Visit our website at http://www.overbyte.be

>>>>that is now 25 years old and precedes the internet Hardly, FIDO BBS did not exist before 1981, The Internet (as we call it today) was "started" in 1969. It's just most of the public did not have access to it. You either had to have a dial-up (300 baud mind you!) shell account on a Unix box with one of the first "ISP"s or have a student/teacher account with one of the few Universities that were "wired" to access it. This was way before the WWW and everything was text based, no GUIs here. Since Win7 there's no mail reader available, shame on MS. Not exactly, the good old Outlook Express has been renamed "Windows Live Mail". It has a new "ribon tool bar" and slightly different folder treeview, but it is still Outlook Express and it is still free. Not delivered with Win7 itself, you have to download it. AFAIK Windows Live suite has a mail reader (newer OE) in it for free.
