[Bug 81235] Re: Networking broken after update (2007/01/23)
Hmm, getting nowhere really. I did a few fresh installations and it failed two out of five times after i've been trying to enable the wireless adapter. I've compared the output of lsmod before and after installing/configuring they showed no difference. When the installation fails eth0 is not present, eth1 is the first adapter listed. [Bug 81585] LCD panel regressions, thinkpad
Public bug reported: As opposed to dapper and edgy the LCD panel brightness functionality in software is totally broke in feisty. First of is that I cannot control the brightness settings in gnome- power-manager in the battery tab at all. It's grayed out right now, dosen't matter if I'm on power or not, it always grayed out. Second, when i adjust the slider for LCD brighness in the AC scheme (between 0 and 100%) it just keeps flashing full backlight and no backlighting, and it flashes really quick (probably for every percentage point, or every other percentage point). When I laptop keys for modifying the brighness no notification usually on screen shows up (as it used to), although sometimes it will show up (once every 100 times or so) but it will only show the progress bar either full or empty. Next, the brighness applet dosen't work at all, it dosen't show a slider when I click on it anything. I am able to successful modify all faucets of brighness via the /proc/acpi/ibm/brightness file, so this leads me to be belive this is some HAL brokeness. I have a thinkpad z61t, everything was working fine in dapper, there were some minor regressions in edgy. When I updated to the feisty development version everything broke. Hope this helps resolving this for other thinkpad users. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- LCD panel regressions, thinkpad https://launchpad.net/bugs/81585 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I've got the same problem as related in the first post in amarok on kubuntu Edgy 6.10: "I have followed all of the guides (including this guide here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats) for enabling MP3 support in Amarok - and when I try to play and MP3 file Amarok offers to enable MP3 support - but after offering to do so when I click on "yes" it crashes and MP3 support is not enabled. I also tried following the manual guide on the Wiki for enabling MP3 support in Amarok/Kaffeine but still to no effect. I installed (and reinstalled) libxine-extracodecs and was still unsuccessful in enabling MP3 support. I have tried upgrading and downgrading both Kaffeine and Amarok - but again to no effect. [Bug 81581] Bogofilter plugin doesn't work with bogofilter-sqlite
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I'm not sure if this should be reported as an Evolution bug or a bogofilter one. I installed bogofilter in my laptop (with a fresh install of Edgy) in order to use it with Evolution. I don't know exactly how, I ended up with bogofilter-sqlite, the sqlite version, whose binary is /usr/bin/bogofilter-sqlite. I spent hours trying to find out why on earth Evolution was ignoring bogofilter altogether (i.e., mi ~/.bogofilter/wordlist.db won't be touched even when I marked mail as junk manually), until I found out running Evolution from the command line that it was expecting to find "/usr/bin/bogofilter". I made a link from bogofilter-sqlite to bogofilter and everything seems to work, but: - Evolution should inform with an alert, warning or something that a regular user can see that a file is not being found, instead of failing silently; - Either Evolution's bogofilter plugin should be smarter about which program to run (i.e., it should know that bogofilter-sqlite exists), or if bogofilter-sqlite is meant to be a replacement for bogofilter, the installer should create the corresponding link (actually, I can do "man bogofilter" but not "man bogofilter-sqlite" for instance, so it seems that not putting a link from bogofilter-sqlite to bogofilter is a bug anyway) ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Bogofilter plugin doesn't work with bogofilter-sqlite https://launchpad.net/bugs/81581 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 77859] Patch for Dapper: Regression: Firefox 1.5.0.9: Saved passwords causes crash with Mailman admin
I've now modified the patch from Mozilla Bugzilla (linked earlier in this bug) to apply to Firefox 1.5.0.9 (as shipped with Ubuntu) and recompiled the Firefox package with the patch (which takes about 2 hours, and 1GB of disk space), and appear to have a non-broken version of Firefox that is able to handled saved passwords on forms with and without usernames (ie, properly fill them in, both Mailman's admin screen and Launchpad's login form seemed to work). The modified patch is attached. Perhaps someone at Ubuntu could verify that this patch makes sense, and if so apply it and rebuild the Firefox security update. (I'd offer to make my binary available for others to test, but as far as I can tell Firefox trademark restrictions prevent anyone distributing a non- authorised build, even if it's supposed to be more stable than the one it replaces.) It's fine. We're just often hasty to keep the bugtracker clean of old bugs :) I can't replicate the conditions you're describing, but I'm using Amarok 1.4.4 and a 1.4.5 development version. [Bug 50838] Re: USB dead after unplugging default USB audio adapter
Just wondering if you upgraded ntfs-3g and pmount from cabspace? I have been experiencing similar problems, though my hardware setup is different. Using a desktop, with the onboard sound disabled in BIOS, and using an Edirol UA-25 usb capture box. Had everything working perfectly till I tried to upgrade said apps to the beta versions availbale on cabspace, but somewhere along the line, it broke gnome-volume-manager or something associated, and I could no longer remount *any* usb device. I just finished forcing the downgrade to the stable ubuntu version and everything has come back to life. [Bug 81573] file open fails on cifs mount with directio option set
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit Gedit fails on open files located on cifs mounts when mounted with the directio option. That particular option is used to disable caching on the mount so that legacy databases (i.e., dbase) can be accessed and modified without causing data corruption. Gedit is otherwise capable of creating and saving files on such a mount (although it gives 'file may have been modified' warnings), giving rise to the confusing situation where one can create a file in gedit, close gedit, and be unable to reopen that file in gedit, even though cat, vim, openoffice and so forth can all open the file without complaint. I _think_ this may be related to the mmap behaviour mentioned here: > gedit (2.13.0-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low > ... >- Reading and writing of files are now handled in an > asynchronous way (so the user interface never blocks) >- Local files are read using mmap (when possible) as the directio option apparently breaks mmap.
