[Bug 284425] Re: Translated documentation appears in english in Xubuntu

2009-11-24 Thread Matthew East
Adi, we don't use bug reports on the xubuntu-docs project. It's
sufficient that the bug is open on the xubuntu-docs package in Ubuntu.

[Bug 488048] [NEW] keyboard layout needs to be reset after each login

2009-11-24 Thread Dale Gerdemann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

This problem is similar to bugs reported by other people, but it occurs
to me that it is specific to a particular layout, and so maybe should be
reported as a new bug.

The problem is that each time I log in, I have to go back to
System->Preferences->Keyboard:Layout to delete "USA Alternative
international (former us_intl)". No matter how many times I delete this
layout, it always returns. And even if this layout is not selected, it
has the peculiar effect of screwing up my other keyboard layouts. In
particular, it screws up "USA International (AltGr dead keys)" so that I
can't type most Extended Latin-type characters.

I'm using 9.10 Gnome-based Ubuntu. The problem arose only after the last
upgrade

I also have selected a few layout options:

Alt and meta are on alt keys
Swap Ctrl and CapsLock
Key(s) to change layout; menu
Key to choose 3rd level: right alt

The second keyboard that I am using is "Bulgarian Traditional Phonetic"

I'm only using menu options and not playing around with xmodmap or
anything similar.

I'm using a Dell laptop.

[Bug 281714] Re: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php5/20060613+lfs/sqlite3.so'

2009-11-24 Thread Akiva Levy
This fix may not be working for me. It seems when I make these changes,
upon restarting, certain programs that I assume have the sqlite3 as a
dependency do not work. Some examples: evolution, hamster-applet, etc.
As a Web developer, these things are crucial for me. Does anyone else
know of a solution?

[Bug 468850] Re: [Vostro 1000] Resume fails after suspend/hibernate

2009-11-24 Thread gsmayya
Hi,

Am not sure how to fix for the suspend for video-intel. Jaunty's intel
drivers were also broken, so am not sure about risking to that. :)

Just a happy news for me is hibernate is working fine now. I tried it
three or four times. Is working. Am not sure of any particular updates
which caused this to work fine.

Suspend seems to be broken in upstream itself. Atleast Fedora 12 also
failed to resume from suspend.

thx

[Bug 488045] [NEW] Audio CDs cause nautilus, and other applications to crash - hardware issue?

2009-11-24 Thread snircher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Inserting audio CDs causes nautilus, rhythmbox, brasero and sound juicer
to crash. I have tested with numerous audio cds, so it is not isolated
to one particular CD. I tested on Ubuntu 9.10 32-bit, and Fedora 12
64-bit, and there is the exact same problem in each case.

DVD Videos, data CDs, data DVDs all work perfectly.

I have a Pioneer DVR-218L SATA optical drive. I did a google search of "ubuntu
dvr-218L" and I found another ubuntu user with an identical problem here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8382208.
I believe it could be a hardware compatibility problem. I am not quite sure
which debugging information to attach, so if more information is required, feel
free to ask me for more. I want to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

[Bug 488042] [NEW] Partitions should be mounted automatically

2009-11-24 Thread pablomaes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

Hi,

I have several folders such as music or photographs, which links to routes that
are located on another partition (ntfs), and only assembled when I open the
folder from the browser or console.
These folders should be automatically mounted to ensure compatibility with
music software or image viewers that index these routes.

I'm not even sure that usbmount 0.0.17 would work at all with
karmic---I'm using a standard Debian sid system here.

If karmic doesn't offer vol_id, then versions < 0.0.18 are useless and
will not work.

The data loss is described in .

BTW, how do you change a summary/title of a bug? I looked at quite some
widgets in launchpad's interface, but didn't find anything obvious.

BTW #2, if you have upload rights, please consider updating my other
packages (hfsprogs, magicfilter, among other packages to which I made QA
uploads to Debian).

Regards, Rogério Brito.

Re: [Bug 484621] Re: The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was called for PID 5886 (/usr/sbin/smbd)

2009-11-24 Thread Sergey Kiselev
Hi, Chuck
I have installed samba-dbg, but nothing changed. I recieve lot of local
mail messages like this:
--
The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for PID 8021 ().

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
However, the executable could not be found for process 8021.
It may have died unexpectedly, or you may not have permission to debug
the process.
--

or this:
--
The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for PID 18148 (/usr/sbin/smbd).

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows
the state of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log
files may contain additional information about the problem.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the
samba-dbg package, which contains the debugging symbols for the Samba
binaries. Then submit the provided information as a bug report to
Ubuntu by visiting this link:

[Bug 486633] Re: Evolution contacts have no address in CouchDB

2009-11-24 Thread phpmonkey
Thank you. I've upated the libcouchdb package & I am no longer getting
that error, or the 'Other error'.

The only thing I've noticed is that if the "address" field has two lines
in it, they are displayed in reverse order, whether you copy over a
contact or create it directly into the "ubuntu one" couchdb.

It displays as:

address line 2
address line 1
city
state
postcode
country

[Bug 488037] [NEW] mousing over cells with notes no longer displays note

2009-11-24 Thread ricardisimo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

It used to be the case - and I'm honestly not certain if the change came
with Koala or with the latest version of OOo - that when you moused over
a spreadsheet cell with a diminished note inside of it, the note would
temporarily display itself. This is/was an extremely handy feature, and
easily beats having to right-click, one-by-one, ever diminished note and
selecting "Show note", then hiding the note again until you found the
one you for which you were searching.

Please bring this back. Thanks.

I'm quite sure that person will be confused by some many 'usernames' at
the panel. You would have username button (with IM icon!) that shuts
down machine (with IM icon, remember?), restarts machine, changes IM
status, changes password, and then you would have another username
button (with folder icon) which brings you to your directory, but not to
your files (cause your files are in Documents, Music, Downloads, etc).

'Click your username' (it sounds stupid already)
'Ok, now I can shutdown machine'
'Oh, sorry, the other username, the one under Places'
'Ok, now I see the same folders that were under Places menu. Why didn't
I just click the right folder under Places menu?'

If you want to call is 'username', then put it under existing 'username'
button and don't confuse user with same button title that does different
things.

[Bug 488032] [NEW] ufw logs noisy services

2009-11-24 Thread dr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ufw

Affects Ubuntu server 9.10, and ubuntu desktop 9.10

Pacakge: ufw 0.29-4ubuntu1

I expected ufw not to log broadcasts and other noisy services, but it
does.

Detail:
The after.rules defaults for ufw in karmic include some lines intended to avoid
logging for noisy services.

for example:
# don't log noisy services by default
-A ufw-after-input -p udp --dport 137 -j RETURN

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ufw/+bug/209709

However, all rules in this chain end in RETURN, so flow of control returns to
the INPUT chain, whether or not any rules match.
That chain then continues to the ufw-after-logging-input chain - thereby
logging the noisy service, and creating many lines of output in the logs, etc.

Suggest replacing these lines with DROP targets instead:
i.e.
# don't log noisy services by default
-A ufw-after-input -p udp --dport 137 -j DROP

which cuts the logging out.

[Bug 417589] Re: Nautilus memory leak on regular usage for long hours

2009-11-24 Thread Casey J Peter
Just had to do a killall nautilus and then a restart of the process as
my system was becoming sluggish. sys mon was reporting nautilus using
well over 600 megabytes of resident memory. After the restart, nautilus
is back to 41 meg of resident memory.

(no applications in use other than compiz and a game of solitaire at the
time of the issue.)

This is a clean install of ubuntu 9.10 64bit.

I just wanted to add that I'm seeing this as well. still.

[Bug 488027] [NEW] UMTS USB device Icon225 does not work after reboot / suspend, fix: reconfiguring connection

2009-11-24 Thread Kai Ritterbusch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hello,

The Option Icon 225 device (UMTS/EDGE modem) worked out of the box, but only
until I shut down or suspend the system.
The device is still recognized, the configured connection is available, but it
tries to connect for a long time and then fails.

The fix: deleting the configuration and set up a new one (provider name,
PIN etc) fixes the problem.

syslog shows a warning which I suspect might be the problem:

Line 1678:
Nov 24 21:18:23 schlepptop NetworkManager:   stage1_prepare_done(): GSM
modem connection failed: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the
remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy
blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was
broken.

somewhere around line 1686, i set up a new configuration, which then
worked again:

Lines 1721 ++
Nov 24 21:26:04 schlepptop NetworkManager: (hso0): device state change:
7 -> 8 (reason 0)
Nov 24 21:26:04 schlepptop NetworkManager: Policy set 'o2 connection 1'
(hso0) as default

I attach syslog and apports,

bye

[Bug 457220] Re: OpenOffice crashes when saving .doc file with "notes" in it, Karmic.

2009-11-24 Thread Ian Anderson
Further to my two posts above, concerning frequent crashes of OOo and ubuntu
when setting up the spell checker.
1)This has nothing to do with crashes using notes in .doc files, so I am on the
wrong threadSorry!
2)The spell checker has to be set up properly which needs some research on the
internet . The answers via tutorials are all there. Its a pity it is complex.
It is easy to crash ubuntu when you struggle with the options for this.
3)I have no problems now with Ubuntu 9.10 and the spell checker and am now
happy with my word-processing.
4)Best of luck with the 'notes' problem. I am sure it will be solved Sorry to
waste space on this thread

bug persists in Ubuntu 9.10, Karmic Koala. To reproduce: type a URL in
the urlbar, press ALT and ENTER at the same time; expected behaviour is
to open a new tab. For proper behaviour see Firefox 3.5 running on any

[Bug 272136] Re: Can't cancel print when printer out of paper

2009-11-24 Thread Umang
Hi,

Sorry to revive this really old bug, but I notice that on a certain
other operating system, I am offered to cancel the print when my printer
runs out of paper. This is very useful, especially when I click print by
mistake, or ask it to print more pages that I wanted to. Is this not
possible with our system of printing?

Finally, even if we cannot recall the print job, we should not have our
printer jammed because the page was canceled. The printer should at
least push the paper out completely. Should I report a separate bug for
this?

BTW, on Karmic, I did this once and every time I print I get a printer
out of paper message that stays there, but my print still prints. Should
I report a separate bug for this.

Thanks

[Bug 401096] Re: Weird "buffering" of scanned pages with scanimage frontend

2009-11-24 Thread Jeffrey Ratcliffe
In that last .deb, I put some more debug information, so if you can
please start gscan2pdf with the --debug option and post the output after
trying to scan with the scanimage frontend, then I've got a chance to
see what is happening.

I can't reproduce the problem here, so otherwise I'm working blind.

[Bug 437402] Re: F-Spot crashes

2009-11-24 Thread Umang
Alright, using the new Human in Karmic I can use F-Spot perfectly. No
problem.

Does the New Wave theme work differently from the rest? Maybe, if it has
problems, it should not be included for Lucid, which is a LTS?

[Bug 437402] Re: F-Spot crashes

2009-11-24 Thread Umang
My bug ( lp:488009 ) has been marked a duplicate of this one. Although
I'm not sure if it's the same bug (I get different output in the
terminal, as far as I can see)

I've submitted the Apport report also, if that helps. I have a feeling
it has got to do with the theme I am using. I am using New Wave. I've
always had problems with this theme. GNOME-Do used to crash and
automatically log me out when I used this theme earlier.

[Bug 488014] [NEW] Karmic does not work correctly with CA0106 Sound Blaster

2009-11-24 Thread Theburn7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdemultimedia-kde4

It recognizes it as X-Fi Xtreme Audio, which is true, but there is
nothing to make the digital output muted, thus, the 5.1 surround sound,
or anything analog will work with it. In Jaunty, there is a box to
change it from digital to analog, now It is only a couple of bars that
don't help anything.

I started to have this problem with the upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 (64bit) on a
ASUS A8V-MX motherboard ( VT8251 SATA controller in ahci mode). Still present
in 9.04 with kernel 2.6.28-16. Last kernel that works for me (even now in 9.04)
is 2.6.22-16 so I intend to keep it till this problem is solved. I believe it
is not a hardware problem since every kernel from Ubuntu 6.10 up to the 7.10
has worked for me. My suggestion is to look around the ahci module code.
The few lines I could write down before it drops to busybox shell look very
similar with what was posted prior to me:
ata1: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300)
  ata1.00: qc timeout (cmd 0xec)
  ata1.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x4)
I could not save more from dmesg since not even my floppy can be mounted at the
busybox prompt (shows "invalid arguments" with an ext2 formatted floppy disk).
The busybox "more" does not work either so I could not look too close into the
dmesg output.
For reference this is what the "good" kernel shows when it works:

A bit dissapointing that this kind of critical failure in my opinion introduced
some time ago can stay around for so long.
