[Bug 1972046] [NEW] mysql-server-8.0.postinst tries to install nonexistent plugin and sets the wrong permissions

2022-05-06 Thread Karoly Negyesi
Public bug reported:

First note please that while Bionic https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic-
updates/amd64/mysql-server-5.7/filelist packaged auth_socket.so Focal
does not do so. https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/amd64/mysql-
server-8.0/filelist

Yet /var/lib/dpkg/info/mysql-server-8.0.postinst tries to install it and
even worse it uses despite it does not exist:

echo "ALTER USER 'root'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED WITH 'auth_socket';"
>> "$initfile"

After every MySQL upgrade I need to restart with --skip-grant-tables and
undo this because it becomes impossible to log in.

Also

for d in $mysql_statedir $mysql_filesdir $mysql_keyringdir $mysql_logdir
$mysql_rundir
do
  if [ ! -d "$d" -a ! -L "$d" ]; then mkdir "$d"; fi
  chown -R mysql:mysql $d
  chmod 0700 $d
done

This makes /var/run/mysqld 0700 which makes it impossible for non-root
users to access MySQL over the socket which is inside /var/run/mysqld

** Affects: mysql-8.0 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1921484] [NEW] libedit no longer reads editrc

2021-03-26 Thread Karoly Negyesi
Public bug reported:

strings /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libedit.so.2.0.56 |grep editrc in
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS returns /.editrc as expected but strings
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libedit.so.2.0.63 |grep editrc in Ubuntu 20.04
LTS comes back empty. Verified with strace'ing the mysql client as well:
editrc is no longer picked up, making mysql rather irritating to use.
Peeking at the source code, the problematic commit is d253f567 which
wraps the editrc code in an "#ifdef HAVE_ISSETUGID" which is BSD only. I
am unable to find upstream in version control to help further.

I have added comments to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=238431

event gets lost.

I do not know whether it's evident from the log , but I am using an
external 1920x1200 monitor on HDMI1 (strange, it's connected via DVI not
HDMI but what do I know?), LVDS1 is disabled and an external mouse.
Moving the trackpoint does the same.

And no, I can't reliably reproduce this :(

[Bug 245103] Re: Won't select multiple selects

2009-02-18 Thread Karoly Negyesi
alastairb's fix
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/245103/comments/11
works , i go to system settings - appearance - GTK styles and fonts and
pick QTcurve which works. QT does not stick. If you do not check back
you might think the fix does not work. It does but your change did not
save.

[Bug 178906] Re: php5-sqlite3 does not add PDO driver

2008-09-08 Thread Karoly Negyesi
This is indeed very confusing. The php5-sqlite3 package is IMO a PECL
extension which provides sqlite3_* commands which practically noone uses
because it's PECL. The mainstream PDO::SQLite driver comes from
php5-sqlite but the only hint that will happen is the fact that it
depends on some sqlite3 package... some renames IMO in order.
