[Bug 1769299] Re: universal access zoom unusable

2019-08-14 Thread Lasse Kliemann
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1767648 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767648

I confirm the jumping problem. It seems to be a related to gnome
terminal. Using kitty or deepin terminal, I can have a program writing
text to the terminal continuously and not experience any jumps.

[Bug 127071] Re: system-config-printer does not save options into .cups/lpoptions for unprivileged users

2019-08-05 Thread Lasse Kliemann
I've run into the same problem, using Kubuntu 18.04 (about 10 years
after this was reported).

The machine is used by multiple people, and they should not mess up each
other's printer settings. So I removed them from the lpadmin group.
However, now the only way to set (local) printer defaults is via the
command line tool lpoptions, which will write to ~/.cups/lpoptions.

Are there *any* GUI solutions for configuring local printer defaults?

[Bug 1822797] Re: ZFS module is installed for wrong kernel on arm64-raspi3 systems (19.04 beta)

2019-04-02 Thread Lasse
I have had good experience with running ZFS on rpi3 using other distros.
Of course it would be a complete craziness to use zfs in a desktop setup
with just 1Gb of RAM. For what rpi is actually meant, 1Gb is plenty
enough to run ZFS especially if the ARC size is set to a smaller value.

This is why I hope this problem would get fixed, so I am able to use
Ubuntu on all platforms.

I have just upgraded my first machine to 18.04 on a ThinkPad W500. The
TrackPoint needs speed adjusting, but much to my dismay, I am faced with
this problem. I strongly agree with Ulrich, I do not expect the
existence of such a bug, nor can I accept it.

[Bug 1765048] [NEW] bionic: LINUX_VERSION_CODE incorrect?

2018-04-18 Thread Lasse Karstensen
Public bug reported:

In linux/version.h there is a LINUX_VERSION_CODE define.

Issue: According to the Keepalived developer(s), the define set in
version 4.15.0-15.16, encoded value 265999, is incorrect. Instead of
4.15.0, it reflects 4.15.15. Seen on bionic.

See https://github.com/acassen/keepalived/issues/838 , their comments copied
here:
"Converting 265999 to hex gives 0x40F0F, which means kernel version 4.15.15.
This looks like linux/version.h is being incorrectly constructed, or there is a
mismatch between the running kernel and the kernel header files."

and

"The #define LINUX_VERSION_CODE 265999 statement says that the headers
are for Linux version 4.15.15, so keepalived is correctly reporting what
is in linux/version.h header file.

This issue probably needs to be reported to Ubuntu since it looks like
the header file they are distributing is incorrect."

[Bug 1676362] [NEW] /etc/network/interfaces broken in 17.04.

2017-03-27 Thread Lasse
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 16.10 to 17.04 final beta (at 26th of Mars). When
upgrading, my working settings from 16.10 did not work anymore.

My main configuration:

auto eno1
iface eno1 inet manual
bond-master bond0

auto eno2
iface eno2 inet manual
bond-master bond0

auto bond0
iface bond0 inet manual
#bond-mode 802.3ad
bond-mode 4
bond-miimon 100
bond-lacp-rate 1
bond-slaves eno1 eno2

Then I have a bunch of tagged virtual "switches" for use from my VM:

auto bond0.664
iface bond0.664 inet manual
vlan-raw-device bond0

auto service0
iface service0 inet manual
bridge_ports bond0.664

Sadly I am not able to give a lot of information because this was noticed on a
production server I tried to upgrade during the weekend. This server had some
performance issues with ZFS and I wanted to see if newer version of ZFS would
solve the problem. When this network problem was found, I had time for nothing
else than to roll back the system to the snapshot I did before upgrading.

The only information I have is that I could not reach the servers
running through some of these switches (for example the one pasted
above). When downgrading back to 16.10, everything worked again.

[Bug 1577120] [NEW] Mounted NFS share prevents shutdown

2016-05-01 Thread Lasse Ebdrup Pedersen
Public bug reported:

On ubuntu 16.04 I mount an NFS share using "sudo mount
ip.ip.ip.ip:/remote_path/remote_path localpath/"
When I try to shutdown or restart the computer it hangs.
It appears to be attempting to unmount the NFS share and theres a timeout, but
each time it reaches the timeout, it gets increased.

I have read bug reports that similar issues were present in several previous
ubuntu versions.
One work around was to soft mount instead of the default hard mount.

[Bug 1568828] [NEW] Calc looses cell highlighting on scrolling on unfocused window

2016-04-11 Thread Lasse Ebdrup Pedersen
Public bug reported:

If I open 2 Calc spreadsheets in separate windows, lets call them A and B, and
then select some cells in A, they become highlighted as expected.
If I then click the B window, but then scroll in A using the mouse scroll
button (i.e. scrolling without selecting the A window), then A correctly
scrolls, but looses cell highlighting (keeps row highlighting).
This does not happen if instead of selecting another spreadsheet, I select and
entirely different program, like e.g. nautilus.

I would expect A to scroll, as it does, without becoming selected, as it
does, but also retain cell highlighting, which it doesn't.

[Bug 1512834] Re: slideshow-kubuntu.pot in Xenial is not updated to refer 16.04 LTS

2016-03-23 Thread Lasse Liehu
To fix the reported issue ”The installation slideshow on Kubuntu 16.04
is not translated to italian neither to any other translation.” it's not
enough to update the pot file and complete translations on Launchpad.

[Bug 1512834] Re: slideshow-kubuntu.pot in Xenial is not updated to refer 16.04 LTS

2016-03-07 Thread Lasse Liehu
@Flames_in_Paradise: Earlier in December you said that it was "very
early" for a report of this kind. What about now? I looked at Xenial
translation statistics of ubiquity-slideshow-kubuntu into Italian and it
looks like all the strings are translated and the last change was in
October 2015.

When is the time when those translations should start to appear in the
installer of Kubuntu 16.04 daily build? Or what needs to happen or be
done before that happens?

Actually I’m a localizer of another language. And I just tried the
latest daily build of Kubuntu 16.04 and found out that I could not get
the slide show to appear in any other language than English even though
I tried a few languages (Italian, German, French and Finnish) where the
slide show was fully or almost fully translated according to translation
statistics.

Earlier there have been similar reports for Kubuntu 15.04[1] and Kubuntu
15.10[2] and those don't seem to have been solved. That means that for
example in the release build of Kubuntu 15.10 the slide show isn't
properly translated and the issue seems technical rather than an issue
of untranslated strings. It would be nice if this situation could be
avoided in Kubuntu 16.04.

[2]
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/+bug/1478910

Is there any way I can help to make sure that the slide show appears
translated in the final 16.04 build?

[Bug 1504362] Re: Desktop flashes briefly on resume before going to lock screen

2015-10-28 Thread Lasse Sundman
I'm seeing the same issue on my Thinkpad X230.
In addition to Unity on the stable release of 15.10, I've experienced the same
problem on Ubuntu Gnome 15.10 using gnome-shell 3.16 and on Arch using
gnome-shell 3.18, so could it in some way be related to this bug
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=753678, since Wily upgraded many
Gnome parts to 3.16?

Unity in 15.04 and different versions of KDE with SDDM and XFCE with
Lightdm all work fine on this laptop, so it really seems like it has
something to do with Gnome 3.16.

[Bug 1510549] [NEW] Service not starting under cloud-init

2015-10-27 Thread Lasse Westh-Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Hi,

If I run this cloud-init script on Ubuntu 14.04 it works, i.e.
postgresql is installed and started, and I am able to execute my CREATE
statement. However, on Ubuntu 15.04 the service does not start.

  #!/bin/bash -eux
  exec > >(tee /var/log/bootstrap.log)
  exec 2>&1
  apt-get --quiet --quiet update
  apt-get --quiet --quiet upgrade
  apt-get install --quiet --quiet postgresql
sudo -u postgres psql -c "CREATE USER foo WITH PASSWORD 'foo';"

I have a workaround: Adding these two lines just before the CREATE
statement makes things work for me:

  pg_ctlcluster --force 9.4 main stop || true
  pg_ctlcluster --force 9.4 main start || true

The particular AMIs I have tested are:

# LDM_SESSION may be defined as either a desktop file name:
# LDM_SESSION=LXDE for /usr/share/xsessions/LXDE.desktop

# or the backwards compatible mode containing the whole command, e.g.:

[Bug 1480681] [NEW] LDM does not use 'Language' from .dmrc

2015-08-02 Thread Lasse
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu: Trusty
Package: ldm

Problem: LDM does not use Language from .dmrc

How to reproduce:
1. Set up several locales to pick between.
2. Pick a non-default locale and log in. This very first time you will actually
get the locale you picked and .dmrc is nicely updated.
3. Log out or reboot
4. Log in again without picking a locale. Now you will get the system default
locale and the setting from .dmrc is not used.

[Bug 1429480] Re: Kubuntu Vivid 1 Beta 15.04: Muon is missing german translation

2015-05-01 Thread Lasse Liehu
There was an upstream bug that translations of any language were not
displayed in most of Muon. It was fixed in Plasma 5.3.

[Bug 1019628] Re: virtualbox-dkms 4.1.12-dfsg-2ubuntu0.1: virtualbox kernel module failed to build [Fehler: ungültige Präprozessordirektive #Oefine]

2014-11-18 Thread Lasse
Ran into the same with virtualbox 4.1.12-dfsg-2ubuntu0.6.

Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.13.0-39-generic
(x86_64)
No suitable module for running kernel found

  device /dev/vboxdrv does not exist

Did this on four computers.
Virtualbox works in a fresh install of "Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS" before doing
update/upgrade to the new hal (graphic stack).

Kernel before upgrade
3.11.0-26-generic #45~precise1-Ubuntu SMP

Kernel after upgrade
3.13.0-39-generic #66~precise1-Ubuntu SMP
 - Did a apt-get purge virtualbox and did reinstall with the same failure.

Headers are there installed ( linux-headers-3.13.0-39, linux-
headers-3.13.0-39-generic, linux-image-3.13.0-39-generic)

Did some other *successfull* tests on Virtualbox and installation
Download virtualbox from Oracle
 - apt-get install libvpx1
 - dpkg -i virtualbox-4.3_4.3.18-96516~Ubuntu~raring_amd64.deb
Now the dkms seems to work "Trying to register the VirtualBox kernel modules
using DKMS ...done"

[Bug 1309896] [NEW] perl dumps core in DBI->data_sources('mysql', { host => 'unresolvable' })

2014-04-19 Thread Lasse Makholm
Public bug reported:

Perl seems to trip up on a bad munmap() when attempting to connect to an
unresoavlable host:

lasse@depravity:~$ perl -MDBI -e 'DBI->data_sources("mysql", { host =>
"unresolvable" })'
*** Error in `perl': munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer: 0x00007fffd31bb950 ***
Aborted (core dumped)
lasse@depravity:~$

A plain connect works:

lasse@depravity:~$ perl -MDBI -e 'DBI->connect("dbi:mysql:host=unresolvable")'
DBI connect('host=unresolvable','',...) failed: Unknown MySQL server host
'unresolvable' (0) at -e line 1.

The stacktrace seems to point to libdbd-mysql-perl as the culprit but I
guess it might as well be perl, libdbi-perl or libmysqlclient18...

[Bug 1285897] Re: Gnome Shell randomly loses focus - keyboard not functional

2014-03-08 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Uninstalling the maximus package seems to resolve this issue. Given
that, there might still be a problem within Gnome Shell itself, only
triggered by Maximus promptly resizing newly created windows. It looks
like a race condition between Maximus and Gnome Shell.

[Bug 1285897] [NEW] Gnome Shell randomly loses focus - keyboard not functional

2014-02-27 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Hit Ctrl+Alt+T to open a new terminal window
2. If title bar still display "Terminal" (application name) and your keyboard
works, repeat step 1 (less than ten times should be enough, often it occurs on
first try)
3. No application name is displayed on top bar. Your newly opened terminal
window appears unfocused (hollow cursor).
4. Keyboard is not working at all (e.g. Alt+Tab does nothing).
5. Use mouse to click and focus any element on the desktop to restore normal
keyboard functionality.

Workaround:

Use gnome-tweak-tool to set focus follow mode to "Mouse" or "Sloppy",
rather than the default "Click", and restart Gnome Shell so that the
change takes effect. Now any element under the cursor will automatically
get focused, avoiding steps 3-5 above.

Background:

I cannot remember when it began but I've had this problem for a very
long time. Disabling all extensions or creating a new fresh user account
doesn't seem to help. Currently running Gnome 3.10.2.1 (from Gnome PPA,
I believe) on Ubuntu 13.10, but the problem also occurs on older
versions shipped with Ubuntu, and also older versions of Ubuntu, I
believe. Perhaps there are some leftovers from doing do-release-upgrades
rather than clean reinstalls?

I've done a fair amount of googling but apparently only a few people
seem to be suffering of this. Here's one report from a similar problem
(closing all windows loses keyboard focus), and that's where I got the
workaround from: http://askubuntu.com/questions/371101/gnome-3-loses-
focus-after-closing-all-open-windows

[Bug 1018105] Re: Tearing in Unity with Nvidia GTX670 (vsync failure)

2013-05-29 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
For the record, with Gnome Shell (on Ubuntu 13.04) tearing is fixed by
adding this line to /etc/environment:

CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling

I haven't recently tried if Unity still suffers of tearing.

[Bug 1004080] Re: Debian::AptContents doesn't correctly source apt-file contents files

2013-01-10 Thread Lasse Makholm
Attached patch seems to fix it for me. It assumes that it's OK for
repo_source_to_contents_paths() to generate paths that might not all
exist - don't know if that can cause problems... Seems to work.

[Bug 811604] Re: uvcdynctrl spams uvcdynctrl-udev.log and fills up filesystem

2012-12-12 Thread lasse
Same problem here on Kubuntu 12.10.

Suddenly, KDE wouldn't start and fortunately I quickly found that
logfile had filled up my harddrive.

I've set "debug=0" in "/lib/udev/uvcdynctrl" as mentioned above to work
around the issues for now, but that obviously isn't a real solution.

2012-09-02 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
probe_mask=8 causes "no soundcards". probe_mask=1 works apparently the
same as no probe_mask at all. However, it seems that the bug has been
fixed elsewhere as I am no longer seeing mute toggling at all (card does
not get muted when inactive) but I'll give it some more testing before
closing this bug.

[Bug 1042546] [NEW] Sound card is muted or mute being constantly toggled when no audio is played

2012-08-27 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Public bug reported:

For a long time, Ubuntu has muted the sound card whenever no audio is
played, presumably to save power. On my laptop this has two nasty side
effects. First of all, the mute button LED lights up, even though the
the volume control is not set on mute (in the user interface). Thus,
pressing the lit button does not have the expected effect of unmuting
but the opposite. Secondly, the audio device takes about two seconds to
start up after unmuting, causing short sounds not being heard at all and
the beginning of longer sounds being missing or garbled.

Lately this has getting worse, with the mute status getting toggled
roughly once per second all the time when no audio is being played. This
makes the mute button LED blink in a highly annoying manner, and it also
causes the laptop speaker to click constantly.

On this particular sound device, at least, it would seem best if the
device was never muted for power saving reasons but only when the user
actually has muted audio output.

[Bug 1041046] [NEW] CPU ondemand scaling does not raise frequency from minimum

2012-08-23 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Public bug reported:

Even when heavily loaded, the frequency of all CPUs stays at 1200 MHz
with scaling_governor is set to ondemand and scaling_max_freq set to
3067000 (as they are by default). Setting scaling_governor to
performance makes CPUs run at full speed (3067 MHz).

[Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen

2012-08-01 Thread Lasse Makholm
Hmm Interesting... The same thing actually happened to me. First
crash after going through the above didn't produce a core dump. A couple
of days later though, crash + core dump. Don't know why it wouldn't
work the first time but maybe trying again will get you a core, like it
did for me.

The dbg packages won't matter for getting a core dump - only for
generating a meaningful stacktrace with gdb afterwards.

[Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen

2012-08-01 Thread Lasse Makholm
Those of you who are seeing similar problems; could you try to get a
core dump and a full stack trace?

Here's how I managed to do it:

1. Prevent X from trapping SIGSEGV by putting the following in
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-no-trap-signals.conf:

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "NoTrapSignals" "true"
EndSection

2. Tell X to dump core by adding the following to the [SeatDefaults]
section of /etc/lightdm.conf:

xserver-command=X -core

3. Make sure the X is allowed to dump core:
 - log out from your session
 - switch to another VT (ctrl-alt-f1)
 - sudo stop lightdm
 - ulimit -c unlimited
 - sudo lightdm

4. Check that the changes kicked in:
$ ps -fp $(pidof X)
UIDPID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD
root 16043 6885 1 08:44 tty7 00:01:34 /usr/bin/X -core :7 -auth
/var/run/lightdm/root/:7 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch
$ cat /proc/$(pidof X)/limits | grep core
Max core file sizeunlimitedunlimitedbytes
$

5. Switch back to VT7, log in and wait for X to crash again.

6. To get meaningful stacktraces, you'll want debug symbols installed
for X and friends (adjust for different video drivers):

sudo apt-get install libc6-dbg xserver-xorg-core-dbg
xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg

7. If/when X crashes, check for /etc/X11/core. If it exists, copy it to your
home dir and run:

gdb /usr/bin/Xorg core

8. In gdb, say "bt full" to get a stacktrace.

2012-07-23 Thread Lasse Makholm
Andy, you describe exactly what I'm seeing and I'm on a T520 with Intel
Graphics as well.

It just happened again shortly after coming out of suspend. Kicked me
back login screen with a segfault in the X log. Same stack trace as the
first one.

I've installed xserver-xorg-core-dbg xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg now,
hopoing it'll get me a better stack trace.

BTW amd64 is just another name for x86_64 and so doesn't necessarily
imply an AMD based machine.

[Bug 901097] Re: Add option to use glXSwapBuffers on every frame, not just full-screen redraws.

2012-07-08 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Care must be taken with removing glFinish as doing so may cause
additional latency. Ideally the drawing should occur as late as
possible, right before the buffer swap (1-5 ms latency at compositing
stage) but it may be difficult to guarantee that the deadline isn't
missed (causing frameskips). Drawing right after the previous swap is
much easier and still acceptable (one frame latency). If no glFinish is
done, the display driver may buffer multiple completed frames, leading
to high latency.

[Bug 1018105] Re: Tearing in Unity with Nvidia GTX670 (vsync failure)

2012-07-03 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Also occurs with other compositing managers and without any (Ubuntu 2D
and Gnome Fallback tested). The next guess would be a driver bug. A
video of the problem (Ubuntu 2D, video playback on xv, vsync for video
enabled in Nvidia Settings): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1kKaKMNRnY

I am pretty sure that this did not occur with GTX460 as I first noticed
it shortly after upgrading to GTX670.

[Bug 1018105] [NEW] Tearing in Unity with Nvidia GTX670 (vsync failure)

2012-06-26 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Public bug reported:

Dragging windows around, playing video (vdpau, xv, gl) and OpenGL all
suffer of tearing even if the application (or nvidia-settings) has Sync
to VBlank (vsync) enabled. A tearing break consistently appears
approximately on the same position, about 40 % from the top of the
screen. This bug is seen with Nvidia proprietary drivers but googling
suggests that it does not depend on the GPU or its driver but that it is
actually a design issue with the compositing managers.

Forcing the GPU into performance mode with nvidia-settings makes no
difference (with my old GPU this would often solve tearing problems).
Toggling full screen mode also doesn't appear to change anything.

Symptoms:
- Application-side (per window) vsync is working fine
   * Window dragging, video playback and OpenGL all behave the same
- Full screen OpenGL works fine
   * Compositing bypassed?
- Compositing fails: compiz attempts syncing but the timing is wrong
   * If it was not syncing at all, the tear lines would "move" randomly
   * The buffer swap should occur during vertical blanking, not during screen
refresh

Workarounds:
- Disable compositing (use different WM)

System:
- Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
- Nvidia drivers 295.49
- MSI GTX670
- Compiz 0.9.7.8
- Unity 5.12.0

2012-06-08 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Public bug reported:

When the power button is pressed, a dialog appears with buttons Suspend,
Reboot, Cancel, Shutdown, in this order. All buttons are evenly spaced.
I would expect Cancel to be separated from the others as it will result
in no action, and also Reboot and Shutdown to be placed next to each-
other as they perform a similar operation (i.e. losing your unsaved

[Bug 1010623] [NEW] Power button default action (power off, suspend) cannot be chosen

2012-06-08 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
Public bug reported:

There doesn't appear to be config option the the settings GUI for action
taken when the power button is pressed. Instead, a dialog is displayed
with options suspend, reboot, cancel, power off. There should be an
obvious way to choose the default action, avoiding that dialog entirely.

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings

2012-06-06 Thread Lasse Kärkkäinen
For whatever the reason, unzip-6.0-4ubuntu1 still doesn't support
choosing the codepage and it uses CP866 (cyrillic) by default. This is a
very bad choice. The default should be CP437 as is the default used by
IBM BIOS, MS-DOS, VGA, etc. It should *also* be configurable via
commandline option.

Meanwhile, incorrectly extracted filenames can be fixed by
convmv -f UTF-8 -t CP866 -r --notest . # Undo the incorrect conversion done
by unzip
convmv -f CP437 -t UTF-8 -r --notest . # Convert CP437 (MS-DOS charset) into
UTF-8 (what Linux systems should use nowadays)

If your zip actually uses something else, replace CP437 with the
applicable DOS codepage (and remove --notest to do dry runs without
actually renaming anything while testing different options).

[Bug 990603] [NEW] Creative X-Fi Extreme S/PDIF Out volume problems

2012-04-28 Thread Lasse Karhu
Public bug reported:

If I select digital S/PDIF output, the volume is very low. By maxing the
amp, sound comes out normal, but this is not convenient. If, on the
other hand, I select analog output, I surprisingly also get S/PDIF
output, now at normal volume level (aprox the same as other devices
connected to same amp). The system volume control, however, does nothing
until 15-0 % or so turns down and then mutes the volume quickly.

Running the ubuntu-bug, the first playback test gives good output on the
stereo (via S/PDIF), but the second does not.

[Bug 934062] Re: "Keyboard Shortcuts" overlay can cause annoyance

2012-03-31 Thread Lasse Kliemann
I confirm that the "Keyboard Shortcuts" overview pops up during
operation, e.g., when maximizing a window via Super+Up. It happens no
matter how quickly the keys are released again. I am using 12.04 Beta 2.
