[Bug 127071] Re: system-config-printer does not save options into .cups/lpoptions for unprivileged users
I've run into the same problem, using Kubuntu 18.04 (about 10 years after this was reported). The machine is used by multiple people, and they should not mess up each other's printer settings. So I removed them from the lpadmin group. However, now the only way to set (local) printer defaults is via the command line tool lpoptions, which will write to ~/.cups/lpoptions. Are there *any* GUI solutions for configuring local printer defaults? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127071 Title: system-config-printer does not save options into .cups/lpoptions for unprivileged users To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/system-config-printer/+bug/127071/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1822797] Re: ZFS module is installed for wrong kernel on arm64-raspi3 systems (19.04 beta)
I have had good experience with running ZFS on rpi3 using other distros. Of course it would be a complete craziness to use zfs in a desktop setup with just 1Gb of RAM. For what rpi is actually meant, 1Gb is plenty enough to run ZFS especially if the ARC size is set to a smaller value. This is why I hope this problem would get fixed, so I am able to use Ubuntu on all platforms. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1822797 Title: ZFS module is installed for wrong kernel on arm64-raspi3 systems (19.04 beta) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi2/+bug/1822797/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1676362] [NEW] /etc/network/interfaces broken in 17.04.

My main configuration: auto eno1 iface eno1 inet manual bond-master bond0 auto eno2 iface eno2 inet manual bond-master bond0 auto bond0 iface bond0 inet manual #bond-mode 802.3ad bond-mode 4 bond-miimon 100 bond-lacp-rate 1 bond-slaves eno1 eno2 Then I have a bunch of tagged virtual "switches" for use from my VM: auto bond0.664 iface bond0.664 inet manual vlan-raw-device bond0 auto service0 iface service0 inet manual bridge_ports bond0.664 Sadly I am not able to give a lot of information because this was noticed on a production server I tried to upgrade during the weekend. This server had some performance issues with ZFS and I wanted to see if newer version of ZFS would solve the problem. When this network problem was found, I had time for nothing else than to roll back the system to the snapshot I did before upgrading. The only information I have is that I could not reach the servers running through some of these switches (for example the one pasted above). When downgrading back to 16.10, everything worked again. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1676362 Title: /etc/network/interfaces broken in 17.04. [Bug 1568828] [NEW] Calc looses cell highlighting on scrolling on unfocused window

Seems funny that the fix is so simple, but sometimes these things happen. ** Patch added: "Fix locale selection in slideshow" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/+bug/1512834/+attachment/4608860/+files/fix-slideshow-i18n.patch ** Summary changed: - slideshow-kubuntu.pot in Xenial is not updated to refer 16.04 LTS + Slideshow is not translated on Kubuntu 16.04 LTS ** Also affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512834 Title: Slideshow is not translated on Kubuntu 16.04 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1512834/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1512834] Re: slideshow-kubuntu.pot in Xenial is not updated to refer 16.04 LTS
@Flames_in_Paradise: Earlier in December you said that it was "very early" for a report of this kind. What about now? I looked at Xenial translation statistics of ubiquity-slideshow-kubuntu into Italian and it looks like all the strings are translated and the last change was in October 2015. When is the time when those translations should start to appear in the installer of Kubuntu 16.04 daily build? Or what needs to happen or be done before that happens? Actually I’m a localizer of another language. And I just tried the latest daily build of Kubuntu 16.04 and found out that I could not get the slide show to appear in any other language than English even though I tried a few languages (Italian, German, French and Finnish) where the slide show was fully or almost fully translated according to translation statistics. Earlier there have been similar reports for Kubuntu 15.04[1] and Kubuntu 15.10[2] and those don't seem to have been solved. That means that for example in the release build of Kubuntu 15.10 the slide show isn't properly translated and the issue seems technical rather than an issue of untranslated strings. It would be nice if this situation could be avoided in Kubuntu 16.04. [Bug 1285897] [NEW] Gnome Shell randomly loses focus - keyboard not functional
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Hit Ctrl+Alt+T to open a new terminal window 2. If title bar still display "Terminal" (application name) and your keyboard works, repeat step 1 (less than ten times should be enough, often it occurs on first try) 3. No application name is displayed on top bar. Your newly opened terminal window appears unfocused (hollow cursor). 4. Keyboard is not working at all (e.g. Alt+Tab does nothing). 5. Use mouse to click and focus any element on the desktop to restore normal keyboard functionality. Workaround: Use gnome-tweak-tool to set focus follow mode to "Mouse" or "Sloppy", rather than the default "Click", and restart Gnome Shell so that the change takes effect. Now any element under the cursor will automatically get focused, avoiding steps 3-5 above. Background: I cannot remember when it began but I've had this problem for a very long time. Disabling all extensions or creating a new fresh user account doesn't seem to help. Currently running Gnome 3.10.2.1 (from Gnome PPA, I believe) on Ubuntu 13.10, but the problem also occurs on older versions shipped with Ubuntu, and also older versions of Ubuntu, I believe. Perhaps there are some leftovers from doing do-release-upgrades rather than clean reinstalls? I've done a fair amount of googling but apparently only a few people seem to be suffering of this. probe_mask=8 causes "no soundcards". probe_mask=1 works apparently the same as no probe_mask at all. [Bug 1042546] [NEW] Sound card is muted or mute being constantly toggled when no audio is played
Public bug reported: For a long time, Ubuntu has muted the sound card whenever no audio is played, presumably to save power. On my laptop this has two nasty side effects. First of all, the mute button LED lights up, even though the the volume control is not set on mute (in the user interface). Thus, pressing the lit button does not have the expected effect of unmuting but the opposite. Secondly, the audio device takes about two seconds to start up after unmuting, causing short sounds not being heard at all and the beginning of longer sounds being missing or garbled. Lately this has getting worse, with the mute status getting toggled roughly once per second all the time when no audio is being played. This makes the mute button LED blink in a highly annoying manner, and it also causes the laptop speaker to click constantly. On this particular sound device, at least, it would seem best if the device was never muted for power saving reasons but only when the user actually has muted audio output. [Bug 1041046] [NEW] CPU ondemand scaling does not raise frequency from minimum
Public bug reported: Even when heavily loaded, the frequency of all CPUs stays at 1200 MHz with scaling_governor is set to ondemand and scaling_max_freq set to 3067000 (as they are by default). Setting scaling_governor to performance makes CPUs run at full speed (3067 MHz). [Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen
Hmm Interesting... The same thing actually happened to me. First crash after going through the above didn't produce a core dump. A couple of days later though, crash + core dump. Don't know why it wouldn't work the first time but maybe trying again will get you a core, like it did for me. The dbg packages won't matter for getting a core dump - only for generating a meaningful stacktrace with gdb afterwards. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026777 Title: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1026777/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen
Those of you who are seeing similar problems; could you try to get a core dump and a full stack trace? Here's how I managed to do it: 1. Prevent X from trapping SIGSEGV by putting the following in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-no-trap-signals.conf: Section "ServerFlags" Option "NoTrapSignals" "true" EndSection 2. Tell X to dump core by adding the following to the [SeatDefaults] section of /etc/lightdm.conf: xserver-command=X -core 3. Make sure the X is allowed to dump core: - log out from your session - switch to another VT (ctrl-alt-f1) - sudo stop lightdm - ulimit -c unlimited - sudo lightdm 4. Check that the changes kicked in: $ ps -fp $(pidof X) UIDPID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD root 16043 6885 1 08:44 tty7 00:01:34 /usr/bin/X -core :7 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:7 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch $ cat /proc/$(pidof X)/limits | grep core Max core file sizeunlimitedunlimitedbytes $ 5. Switch back to VT7, log in and wait for X to crash again. 6. To get meaningful stacktraces, you'll want debug symbols installed for X and friends (adjust for different video drivers): sudo apt-get install libc6-dbg xserver-xorg-core-dbg xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg 7. If/when X crashes, check for /etc/X11/core. If it exists, copy it to your home dir and run: gdb /usr/bin/Xorg core 8. In gdb, say "bt full" to get a stacktrace.

[Bug 901097] Re: Add option to use glXSwapBuffers on every frame, not just full-screen redraws.
Care must be taken with removing glFinish as doing so may cause additional latency. Ideally the drawing should occur as late as possible, right before the buffer swap (1-5 ms latency at compositing stage) but it may be difficult to guarantee that the deadline isn't missed (causing frameskips). Drawing right after the previous swap is much easier and still acceptable (one frame latency). If no glFinish is done, the display driver may buffer multiple completed frames, leading to high latency. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/901097 Title: Add option to use glXSwapBuffers on every frame, not just full-screen redraws. This bug is seen with Nvidia proprietary drivers but googling suggests that it does not depend on the GPU or its driver but that it is actually a design issue with the compositing managers. Forcing the GPU into performance mode with nvidia-settings makes no difference (with my old GPU this would often solve tearing problems). Toggling full screen mode also doesn't appear to change anything. Symptoms: - Application-side (per window) vsync is working fine * Window dragging, video playback and OpenGL all behave the same - Full screen OpenGL works fine * Compositing bypassed? - Compositing fails: compiz attempts syncing but the timing is wrong * If it was not syncing at all, the tear lines would "move" randomly * The buffer swap should occur during vertical blanking, not during screen refresh Workarounds: - Disable compositing (use different WM) System: - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS - Nvidia drivers 295.49 - MSI GTX670 - Compiz 0.9.7.8 - Unity 5.12.0 ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1018105 Title: Tearing in Unity with Nvidia GTX670 (vsync failure) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1018105/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1010628] [NEW] Power off dialog button grouping is unintuitive
Public bug reported: When the power button is pressed, a dialog appears with buttons Suspend, Reboot, Cancel, Shutdown, in this order. All buttons are evenly spaced. I would expect Cancel to be separated from the others as it will result in no action, and also Reboot and Shutdown to be placed next to each- other as they perform a similar operation (i.e. losing your unsaved work). ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1010628 Title: Power off dialog button grouping is unintuitive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/1010628/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings
For whatever the reason, unzip-6.0-4ubuntu1 still doesn't support choosing the codepage and it uses CP866 (cyrillic) by default. This is a very bad choice. The default should be CP437 as is the default used by IBM BIOS, MS-DOS, VGA, etc. It should *also* be configurable via commandline option. Meanwhile, incorrectly extracted filenames can be fixed by convmv -f UTF-8 -t CP866 -r --notest . # Undo the incorrect conversion done by unzip convmv -f CP437 -t UTF-8 -r --notest . # Convert CP437 (MS-DOS charset) into UTF-8 (what Linux systems should use nowadays) If your zip actually uses something else, replace CP437 with the applicable DOS codepage (and remove --notest to do dry runs without actually renaming anything while testing different options). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580961 Title: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/file-roller/+bug/580961/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 990603] [NEW] Creative X-Fi Extreme S/PDIF Out volume problems
Public bug reported: If I select digital S/PDIF output, the volume is very low. By maxing the amp, sound comes out normal, but this is not convenient. If, on the other hand, I select analog output, I surprisingly also get S/PDIF output, now at normal volume level (aprox the same as other devices connected to same amp). The system volume control, however, does nothing until 15-0 % or so turns down and then mutes the volume quickly. Running the ubuntu-bug, the first playback test gives good output on the stereo (via S/PDIF), but the second does not.
