[Bug 1310076] Re: lost connectivity to a node when using fastpath-installer with precise+hwe-s

2014-05-05 Thread Julian Edwards
Scott, is this a Curtin bug as per comment 6? I just verified that it's
broken - the installer comes up with the hwe-s kernel but installs the
release series one.

[Bug 1316404] [NEW] MAAS from cloud-tools-next on precise fails because python-amqp too new

2014-05-05 Thread Haw Loeung
Public bug reported:

Hi,

We're testing MAAS 1.5 on precise using the cloud-tools-next pocket in
the cloud archives. It seems that python-amqp seems too new and MAAS
celery services fail because of this:

$ sudo service maas-cluster-celery start
maas-cluster-celery start/running, process 15005
hloeung@mabolo:/var/log/upstart$
==> maas-cluster-celery.log <==
Traceback (most recent call last):

$ dpkg -l | grep amqp
ii python-amqp

Downgrading to 1.0.12-0ubuntu1~cloud0 fixes this.

Haw

Re: [Bug 1316272] Re: juju destroy-environment >=256 nodes fails

2014-05-05 Thread John A Meinel
So this sounds like we are putting all the machine IDs into a single URL
and we end up running out of URL space (quick google says that the default
max length is 2000 characters).

It sounds like we either need to send the request in batches, or POST the
IDs rather than put them in the URL itself.

[Bug 1310552] Re: could not extract the package.xml file from "/build/buildd/php5-5.5.9+dfsg/pear-build-download/packagename.tgz"

2014-05-05 Thread Hugo Vieira
I stumbled on this problem today after a fresh install of Xubuntu 14.04 32 bit.
For some reason, kolAflash's workaround is not working for me...

My investigation led me to /usr/share/php/Archive/Tar.php. This script
was unable to open tgz files because line 733 was returning "false" when
checking for the existence of function gzopen.

With this information, Google showed me a 5 year old bug (still open)
that may be related:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/451405

I really really had to install some pear packages, so my solution was to
replace the following in Tar.php:
- Lines 733 and 744 - Replace gzopen with gzopen64
- Line 888: Replace gzseek with gzseek64 and gztell with gztell64

This is not a solution but it may help find the solution (or maybe fix
the 5 year old's bug?).

[Bug 1316357] [NEW] Network interface IP address not set on first boot if config drive used

2014-05-05 Thread Simeon Monov
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to deploy an Ubuntu cloud image (I hit same issue on all
Ubuntu images available from http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/) on a non
DHCP network in Open Stack environment using config drive.

Cloud init local successfully sets the /etc/network/interfaces file but
does not reloads the interface and the virtual machine never gets an IP.
If the VM is rebooted (or networking manually restarted from console)
then Ubuntu picks up the new interface configuration and everything is
working as excepted.

The image itself has a configured eth0 interface set for dhcp. If I
delete this configuration (from /etc/network/interfaces.d/eth0.cfg) from
the image then everything works as expected.

After multiple tests in different Open Stack deployments I can confirm
that this issue is intermittent. Sometimes the image would pickup the
new IP but most of the time it wont and needs VM reboot in order to get
the network configured.

After some more debugging I think that there is some timing issue in the
init scripts boot process on Ubuntu where the networking init scripts
will try to contact the dhcp to get an IP but in the same time the
cloud-init-local will setup the network and the networking scripts will
never find out that the interface was changed from DHCP to static.

The latest image I tested is:

Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS cloud image from 5/5/2014 (the bug exists with
all the cloud images available)

and

cloud-init 0.7.5-0ubuntu1

Are all services shipped in Ubuntu packages for 14.04 using these
scripts, rather than the link to upstart-job? Which version of Ubuntu
was that change made? Is this something users can rely upon being
consistent? There's lots of automation code out there that use the old
scripts.

[Bug 1316291] [NEW] juju-quickstart hangs on "machine 1 provisioning is pending"

2014-05-05 Thread Robie Basak
Public bug reported:

juju-quickstart appears to be broken on Trusty when on defaults. This is
a regression from Trusty development, since I tested this before upload
and know that it used to work.

The last message I see is: machine 1 provisioning is pending

juju status says:

environment: local
machines:
  "0":
agent-state: started
agent-version: 1.18.1.1
dns-name: localhost
instance-id: localhost
series: trusty
  "1":
instance-id: pending
series: precise
services:
  juju-gui:
charm: cs:precise/juju-gui-90
exposed: true
units:
  juju-gui/0:
agent-state: pending
machine: "1"

/var/log/juju-ubuntu-local/all-machines.log is full of:

machine-0: 2014-05-05 19:47:37 ERROR juju runner.go:220 worker: exited
"environ-provisioner": failed to process updated machines: cannot start
machine 1: no matching tools available

If I destroy the environment and try creating things by hand, "juju add-
machine" works, but deploys a trusty node by default. I guess the
precise tools aren't being uploaded and aren't available to the
bootstrap node?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1149410] Re: Stuck on "Trying to connect to the Juju environment"

2014-05-05 Thread Richard Harding
Brian, can you do me a favor and check out the network inspector tool of
the browser in your scenario? The client you load the GUI from needs to
be able to login/pull down the JS from the GUI charm, however it also
needs to talk on other ports as it holds a websocket connection to the
juju state server. If the screen is spinning that it's unable to connect
to the environment, I suspect the proxy is not proxying the secure
websocket connection through to the juju state server.

A look at the network tab while loading the GUI should show the
websocket connection attempting but failing.

2014-05-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

To use virsh to start nodes you need libvirt-bin on the cluster
controller. It's not installed by default but it should be for better
user experience.

Possibly even an automated process/script to setup and copy ssh keys so
the CC can connect to a remove QEMU/KVN host via SSH. It's described in
the documentation, but it will be really nice to have a single setup
script for it.

[Bug 1312936] Re: Post-installation script fails

2014-05-05 Thread Mike Sasso
Thanks, Arnaud, squishing down max_connections before attempting to
install did the trick! I took the conf.d route and put a .cnf file in
/etc/mysql/conf.d that contained two lines:

[mysqld]
max_connections = 20

Installing MySQL was the first thing I did on the first login to a new
EC2 micro instance, so I definitely find it interesting that there are
512MB environments where the default MySQL 5.6 installation sails
through and 512MB environments (AWS EC2!) where it crashes and burns.
Obviously something is different. (I have lots of Windows experience,
but I'm a Linux newbie. So I haven't a clue)

[Bug 525674] Re: apt-check hangs, preventing login via SSH

2014-05-05 Thread RichardNeill
Interestingly, 14.04 seems to be much better at this than 12.04, takling around
1.5 sec rather than 12.
However, it's interesting how much faster it can still be without this.

Here is a measurement I made. This is 14.04 server on the LAN, with ssh-key
authentication, and I repeated serveral times:
   time ssh server_on_lan true

With the /etc/update-motd.d/* files unaltered, this takes ~ 1.13 sec
After chmod -x, this takes ~ 0.15 sec.

I hope that helps,

[Bug 525674] Re: apt-check hangs, preventing login via SSH

2014-05-05 Thread RichardNeill
This is really painful - although I don't experience complete hangs, I do
experience 12-second+ delays while
the script "90-updates-available" grinds slowly though. So login via SSH is
unpleasantly slow. Furthermore, bash completion for tab completion on scp
commands is also very slow.

The workaround is: chmod -x /etc/update-motd.d/*

However, it seems to me that this should be a cron-job which runs once
an hour (and @reboot). There's no need for it to happen at the precise
moment where I log in.

[Bug 525674] Re: apt-check hangs, preventing login via SSH

2014-05-05 Thread RichardNeill
(P.S. Even worse is connecting via a stack of SSH tunnels, eg behind a
firewall. It takes almost 30 seconds to get a prompt, and ssh -vvv
doesn't help identify the issue).

[Bug 1316124] Re: Actual Ubuntu Slapd totaly useless for "serious" use

2014-05-05 Thread Ryan Tandy
There's an open request (for a long time) for a backport in Debian:
http://bugs.debian.org/685748

A backport should address the question of DB format upgrades when going
from release to release. The technique currently used, checking the
version of the package being upgraded, will fail if a newer package is
backported to an older release (with an older DB library) and then
upgraded (because it will already be newer than what the version check
looks for). I don't have a good idea for addressing that. (Backporting
from Utopic to Trusty is probably safe, as long as they have the same
libdb version.)

Backporting openldap in Ubuntu is time-consuming because the procedure
calls for every single reverse dependency to be verified. See for
example the list in a previous attempt:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968612

The LTB project provides deb packages of the most recent sources, built
according to upstream's recommendations. If you're currently just
building and installing unmodified upstream sources, those might save
you some time. http://ltb-project.org/

Sorry, I misspoke. There is no backport in Debian now.
Debian finally switch to 2.4.39 in Sid and Jessie after a maintainer change.
A backport for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is highly desirable as for Debian stable.

Should I open a Debian bug or request a Debian backport to the Debian
maintainer first ?
I search informations about Debian backports requests, but it seems that
there is no other "official" way than doing the backport myself.

Regards,
Emmanuel.

[Bug 1316124] [NEW] Actual Ubuntu Slapd totaly useless for "serious" use

2014-05-05 Thread Emmanuel Fusté
Public bug reported:

Please, as Debian recently (and finally ) do, ugrade/backport 2.4.39 to Ubuntu.
2.4.31 is two year old and full of know bugs critical in multi-server
replication config.
Even if 2.4.39 is not perfect, it is way more "polished" and usable than 2.4.31.
We could not wait two more years the next LTS release to catch up. And I would
like to avoid "./configure;make;make install".
It would benefit upstream too as
- actual Ubuntu users reports are useless for the developers because know old
fixed bugs or from an outdated codebase
- actual up to date codebase is not currently tested/used by Ubuntu users, not
helping to move forward.

Thank you for your attention.

[Bug 1316125] [NEW] Autofs leak file descriptors when reloaded (-HUP) and daemon may stop working on high # of shares/reloads

2014-05-05 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * Autofs leak file descriptors when reloaded (-HUP) and daemon may stop
working on high # of shares/reloads.

[Test Case]

1. Configure a simple direct mount:

# cat /etc/auto.master
/- /etc/auto.direct

# cat /etc/auto.direct
/nfsserver:/nfs

2. Start the automounter and do NOT trigger the mount

3. Replace /etc/auto.direct with:

# cat /etc/auto.direct
/nfs/1 server:/nfs
/nfs/2 server:/nfs

4. Reload:

# kill -HUP $(pidof automount)

>From now on, every reload will leak a file descriptor:

# ls -la /proc/$(pidof automount)/fd | grep /nfs

lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 11 -> /nfs
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 12 -> /nfs
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 13 -> /nfs
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 14 -> /nfs
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 5 -> /nfs

[Regression Potential]

 * based on upstream commit: autofs - version 5.0.7 - dd66c61a - file
descriptor leak when reloading automount daemon. Tested with the same
test case fix the error and not changing any other behavior.

[Bug 838437] Re: nrpe server starts too early and fails to bind on IP

2014-05-05 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
Surprised to see the bug is so old. It only affects people who use
server_address directive. We have a Nagios server with ~30 clients
connected via OpenVPN and only recently started adding the
server_address directive to NRPE configs on clients. All of them will
fail to start NRPE on boot since naturally, OpenVPN address isn't up
until a while after networking has come up. This happens on both Debian
7 and Ubuntu 12.04. NRPE startup should somehow be moved after
networking.

Re: [Bug 1306315] Re: juju-mongodb process hangs around after package removal

2014-05-05 Thread John A Meinel
James, this may be a special case for juju-mongodb, but if you uninstall a
package, doesn't it usually stop the service that was running?
(uninstalling postgres should stop the postgres process, right?)

I guess in the case of juju-mongodb we have the problem that the packaging
itself isn't setting up the upstart script, but it is only set up when you
have bootstrapped an environment. I can't quite say what *should* happen if
you uninstall a package that we are depending on.

Certainly "juju destroy-environment" should be deleting the upstart script,
I'm just trying to understand if "apt-get remove juju-mongodb" should also
be stopping services that were using it. Or whether this bug should just be
WontFix.

Re: [Bug 1314686] Re: Please add support for utopic

2014-05-05 Thread John A Meinel
I believe this is more about the local provider, which doesn't actually
look for tools on streams.canonical.com

I don't quite understand why we don't recognize 'utopic', though, as we
*should* be reading /usr/share/distro-info/ubuntu.csv to find what series
are available.

Certainly you can see from the debug output that it is creating 'utopic'
tools, it just gets to a point where it ends up deciding that it isn't
actually a valid series.

Maybe the issue is actually in the LXC code? Certainly we found that on
precise we had to install ubuntu-cloud-image packages so that it could know
what "trusty" is.

[Bug 1316059] [NEW] byobu (screen backend) hangs when hitting the escape sequence

2014-05-05 Thread Toshio Ito
Public bug reported:

I use fresh-installed Xubuntu 14.04 with Japanese language environment.

Versions

- byobu: 5.77-0ubuntu1
- screen: 4.1.0~20120320gitdb59704-9

Procedure
-

 $ byobu-select-backend  ## use screen
 $ byobu

- Then, hit ctrl-a
- In the menu, select 1.
- After returning from the menu, hit ctrl-a

Result
--

byobu won't respond anymore.
You need to close the terminal.

Note

- tmux backend is fine.
- The problem exists both with xfce4-terminal and xterm.
- The problem still exists when you change the escape sequence to, e.g., ctrl-z
or ctrl-e.
- I did not have this problem in Xubuntu 12.04.

Workaround
--

- Write ~/.byobu/keybindings manually.

** Affects: byobu (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1316050] Re: byobu menu broken in screen backend

2014-05-05 Thread Toshio Ito
When I run

 $ LANG=C byobu

and hit F9, the menu is fine, but menu items are somewhat encoded. (see
the attached image)

The menu is rendered incorrectly (see the attached image)

Note

- tmux backend is fine.
- The problem exists both with xfce4-terminal and xterm.
- Maybe it's because of Japanese characters.
- I did not have this problem in Xubuntu 12.04.
