DirectionalDragArea lets a long press event through when a drag is
  detected

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I recently build a branch of lp:webbrowser-app with the latest code
drop for DirectionalDragArea from lp:unity8. The branch is there:
  lp:~osomon/webbrowser-app/update-dda.

The DDA is used to detect a bottom edge drag over a WebView component,
and display the tabs view accordingly. This works well, but often when
a drag is detected the WebView under it gets a long press event, thus
triggering the selection mechanism that it implements.

According to Daniel with whom I discussed the issue prior to filing
  this bug:

  > Yes, the recognition parameters (and algorithm) were changed a bit.
  > So it's perfectly possible that what you consider a long press (don't
  > know how many milliseconds of pressed are needed for that) can happen
  > before the DirectionalDragArea reaches a decision on whether the gesture
  > is a directional drag gesture or not.

The threshold duration for a long press to be detected by the WebView
  is 500ms.

I’ve rebuilt my branch with DIRECTIONALDRAGAREA_DEBUG set to 1, and
here is what I’m seeing when observing the issue:

Bug description:
The Browser app has two unsynced bug lists.

This unnecessarily risks quality: some bugs are only in one list, some
people will know about only the other list, and even when a bug is in
both lists they can have different importance levels and statuses.

For example, at the time of writing, bug 1442851 is marked as Fix
Released for the project but not for the package, which can't possibly
  be true.

For these reasons, Ubuntu Touch policy is to track bugs on packages, not
projects.

  To fix this:
  1. Go through each bug reported on the project, except this one, and move it
to the package.
  2. Mark this bug as fixed a couple of minutes in advance.
  3. At ,
change "Bugs are tracked:" to "Somewhere else".

  Hi!

minutes. You can see here the user reviews:
  https://uappexplorer.com/app/navigator.costales

  The code is here:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~costales/unav/trunk/view/head:/www/js/geolocation.js
It's just a simple HTML5 geolocation code. Even I added a reject control for
more that 1 request by 800 microseconds.

I think it could be the GPS doing a lot of request by second or the
web container is freezing waiting for GPS.

  Thanks in advance!

Title:
browser is limited to 2 live webviews

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu RTM:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I often open far more then 3 tabs but when I have 3-6 tabs open only
and chance back to another one this tab is cleared already and have to
  reload.

It's not the same but similar to this bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/webbrowser-app/+bug/1268055
But while this bug is a wishlist for me this behaviour is very unhandy and
annoying:

This is very bad because you run more fast then necessary into the
traffic limit of your UMTS provider. And when it is a limited speed it
takes really really long to load the other tabs again and again when
you have to often chance between them.

In combination with other (maybe unreported until now) bugs it is more
bad than this because I have to load the site a while and then stop it
because advertisement blocks the view of the website until I stop it -
or wait until 30s again for nothing (ads).

How should it work: For example my opera mini on my old andoid device
with only 256 MB RAM works much better then this browser with 1 GB RAM
on Ubuntu phone - but this can chance. There I can open 50 tabs or
more and no tab have to reload!

How could it solved: Maybe there's the possibility for a new option in
the optional configuration file for a bigger cache size, a tab number
limit or something like this. I have enough RAM but no time and
traffic for reloading again and again. Please help as soon as
  possible.

I used stable and vivid-proposed channel on a BQ phone with all
  Updates.

  Greetings, lgd

  version custom: 20141216-484-22-169

  webbrowser-app: 0.23+15.04.20141212~rtm-0ubuntu1

When apps are killed because the device runs out of memory, webapps very
frequently do not recover correctly and show a blank page instead of the app
when the app is switched to foreground (for example google maps in the
screenshot attached).
The minimum expected behaviour is to restore the app and this app must be
working.

  Test Case:
  1. Open several web apps
  2. Make the device run out of memory
  3. Switch between apps

  Expected behaviour
The apps are restored when they are brought to foreground

  Actual Behaviour
  Frequently webapps are blank

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The User-Agent string for the browser is similar enough to the Android
browser User-Agent, that it creates a poor experience when browsing
the web on an Ubuntu phone. An inordinately large number of web sites
persistently advertise to "install our app" instead of providing the
best web experience; an app which cannot be installed.

This is exacerbated by the pervasiveness of webapps on Ubuntu phone,
which simply embed the mobile web site with webapp-container, and
still result in seeing such advertisements, despite the fact that the
"app" on Ubuntu is already installed, and the Android apps being
  advertised are simply not installable.

Having all the big web sites telling users of Ubuntu that they should
be using Android instead, is not very good for the user experience at
  all.

Default search engines list can’t be customized per locale/country

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
This is an enhancement request rather than a real bug.

Since version 0.23+15.04.20150515-0ubuntu1, webbrowser-app comes with
a default list of search engines that are installed system-wide, and
that can be supplemented/overridden by locally installed OpenSearch
  description files.

This list is global, thus for a search engine to be part of it it has to
adapt its search results to the user’s locale.
It might be desirable to have per-country/per-locale lists of search engines,
rather than just a global one. There could be a fallback list for locales which
don’t specify a custom list.

  See e.g. what chromium does:

https://code.google.com/p/chromium/codesearch#chromium/src/components/search_engines/template_url_prepopulate_data.cc

Bug description:
The implementation of the fix for bug 1451432 adds the SAML provider
site to the list of the allowed URL patterns, so that the SAML
provider's website will be opened within the webapp-container itself
and not being delegated to the browser.

This is working fine, but we recently noticed that sometimes Google
redirects the user to the SAML provider's website without passing the
"SAMLRequest" parameter in the URL query; when that happens, the
webapp container will delegate the opening of that page to the
browser, since the URL is not in the allowed URL patterns.

The proposed solution is for the webapp-container to store the SAML
provider's URL somewhere in a config file, and always append the
contents of that file to the list of the allowed URL patterns.

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu RTM:

Bug description:
(see also bug #1122145 that should be fixed as a prerequisite)

The selection functionality in the browser allows the user to resize the
selection rectangle by dragging one of the four handles to include additional
blocks.
The current implementation is rather naïve, it computes the center of the
resized selection, gets the DOM element below this point, and iterates up the
DOM tree until it finds the largest ancestor that fits in the selection
rectangle.

This is hopefully good enough for the demo (considering the tight
deadline), but it should be made smarter afterwards.

This bug report should be used to gather ideas on how to make the
feature smarter, and track their implementation.

  something like this:

  def geolocation_path_handler(server):
  server.send_response(200)
  html =
'navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function r(p)

This is kind of a basic function nowadays in browser, since almost
every page tries to offer a "personalized" experience to the user, and
it is pretty annoying to manually reinsert them every time that the
session terminates, especially on frequently used websites.

Seeing this with the latest trunk (corresponding to version

  oxide 1.7.7.

  Steps to reproduce:
   1) launch the browser, browse to a page that has more content than fits in
the viewport
   2) verify that you can scroll up/down the page by dragging the scrollbar
handle
   3) open the drawer menu, click "new tab", verify you get the new tab view
with a list of bookmarks and top sites
   4) open any of the bookmarks or top sites
   5) now try dragging the scrollbar handle up/down like in step 2

Expected result: the page scrolls as the handle is dragged.
Actual result: the handle won’t move. Scrolling in the page with the
mousewheel still works though.

  Hi!

With the app GPS Navigation a few users have problem with a freeze
issue, because of 100% CPU usage or heavy swap usage (I don't know,
  because I can't reproduce it.

For some users, it is working perfect, for other is freezing after a few
minutes. You can see here the user reviews:
  https://uappexplorer.com/app/navigator.costales

  The code is here:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~costales/unav/trunk/view/head:/www/js/geolocation.js
It's just a simple HTML5 geolocation code. Even I added a reject control for
more that 1 request by 800 microseconds.

I think it could be the GPS doing a lot of request by second or the
web container is freezing waiting for GPS.

  Thanks in advance!

Status in Oxide Webview:

Bug description:
On trunk, I'm getting the following random test failure:

  FAIL! :
qml-core-test::ScriptMessageRouting_direct::test_ScriptMessageRouting_no_match(row
 1) Unexpected error type
 Actual (): 5
 Expected (): 3
 Loc:
[/home/chr1s/src/oxide/class-hierarchy-cleanliness/qt/tests/qmltests/core/tst_ScriptMessageRouting_no_match.qml(44)]

The test is checking the response of the browser-side message routing
when there are no handlers available by sending a message to the frame
and having it loop back to the browser. When the browser returns an
error for the looped back message, the frame is then meant to reply to
the original request by sending the error code (which we expect to be
3 - ErrorNoHandler). In this case though, we're getting a genuine
error from the message transaction to the frame (5 -
  ErrorHandlerDidNotRespond).

The content-side handler for this test that loops back to the browser
  looks like this:

  oxide.addMessageHandler("SEND-MESSAGE-TO-SELF", function(msg) {
var r = oxide.sendMessage(msg.args.id, msg.args.args);
r.onreply = function(response) {
  msg.reply({error: 0, response: response});
};
r.onerror = function(error, desc) {
  msg.reply({error: error, response: desc});
};
  });

What happens is that when the handler has executed, "r" goes out of
scope and then sometimes gets garbage collected before we get a reply
or error from the browser. When it gets garbage collected, we
automatically send the "DidNotRespond" error to the message source in
  the browser.

I'm amazed we've only just started hitting this.

This is likely to be an issue for existing consumers of Oxide, and
could affect the browser side too

The first thing IMO is to display an error if the file isn't valid,
because it took me a while understand what was wrong with my dowload -
it says 'Success' but then my photo isn't in the gallery.

Then, there should be a way to download private resources from the web

Bug description:
  Credential not Known.

I am trying to build a webapp to access Office365. I have a corporate
account, so I can't give you the details to share.

I tried on Windows, Ubuntu Desktop and Mac using Chrome, Safari,
Firefox, and the credentials go through to the gui.

Using the brower on UT, it comes to the login page, but then gives me
the "who the heck are you" 401 Credentials not known.

I have no idea why the error turns up just on the UT browser (and
yest, I type slowly so that I make sure I put in my details properly
  :-)!!.

  Any ideas?

I filed the SDK output on pastebin. I will post as a separate comment
when I get back to that machine.

[Ubuntu-webapps-bugs] [Bug 1287838] Re: [webapp-container] If a webapp is not authorized to use an account, the container indicates that there are no accounts available

2015-06-08 Thread Alberto Mardegan

referring to. Marking as invalid, since we currently have no UI for OA

No way to use a bookmarklet (bookmarked javascript: link)

Status in Web Browser App:
  Invalid
Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The Ubuntu browser has no way to use bookmarklets (a bookmarked
javascript: link which runs some code in the context of the currently
viewed page, rather than navigating to a new page). See
https://www.readability.com/bookmarklets for an example of such
bookmarklets and why they're useful. In short, bookmarklets are a
slightly clunky but open and available way for people to augment the
capabilities of a web browser without being blocked on the browser
  developers implementing a feature.

In order to use bookmarklets, it must be possible to:

  1. get a javascript: link into the browser's bookmarks database. Ideally this
would be doable with JS in a client page; a suboptimal but possible alternative
is the approach that iOS Safari takes, where one bookmarks a random URL and
then edits the bookmark to contain a (copy-and-pasted) JavaScript URL instead.
Neither are possible on Ubuntu's browser; bookmarks cannot be manually edited.
  2. Invoke the bookmark in the current tab. This is not possible in the Ubuntu
browser: one cannot open a bookmark in an existing tab, because the list of
bookmarks is only available in the new tab screen.

phones there’s not enough real-estate in the address bar.

The new top-header takes too much space by default. It doesn't hide
until a long page is scrolled.

Suggestion: auto-hiding, like the previous bottom bar, would probably
make that less of an issue.

  ** UX Solution **
  HTML 5 apps
may occasionally need back button functionality

I also agree with Alex that the optional header could be either fixed or
hide-out on scroll. That's what we specified.

It should behave similarly as the current Browser top bar.
