[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 318511] Re: [jaunty] weird refresh rate behavior with nvidia driver

2009-05-20 Thread showgun
I have worst problems XPS M1710 GeForce Go 7900 GS
blue bars on on disply geberish lettering from the boot freezes you name it and
many people are reporting problem with this specific card and laptop
The problem started with Jaunty downgraded back tried hardy as well as Intrepid
and the problem still persist I started to believe the problem could have been
the card/chip.
So formatted installed XP and all the good Dell software problem gone.

Dedided to dual boot with Jaunty even before installing the Nvidia drivers the
problem started back again. The problem reside in an other place could be
xrandr & xorg.
Found a link that listed adding the following to xorg

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
ModeLine "1920x1200" 162.000 1920 1968 2000 2160 1200 1201 1204 1250 -hsync
-vsync
EndSection

this seem to have solve the problem I since have installed Nvidia drivers and
it is running quite stable might have had one haps but reinsert the above and
working fine.
Hope this will help.

I was really desappointed to have to put back windows but looks like I will
have to keep it untill the next upgrade "Karmic"
This in my opinion is a very serious problem when it comes down to video

Ciao Davide,
I have the same motherboard with no video card.
I have problems both with vesa and openchrome driver (bug 377402)
Can you post your Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf when you are using the integrated
video card?
Which bios revision do you have?

Thanks,
Leonardo

2009-05-20 Thread lunix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

NVIDIA config doesn't detect my Samsung SyncMaster 930B LCD monitor.
It comes up as unknown as a CRT.
I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 6200 graphics adapter card.
lspci | grep -i nvidia returns:
1:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44A [GeForce 6200] (rev
a1)
lspci -n returns:
01:00.0 0300: 10de:0221 (rev a1)

I am not 100% sure but I think I remember Ubuntu 8.10 did detect this
monitor ok.

SUSE 11.0 and 11.1 does detect the monitor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 364263] Re: [RV410] xorg hangs in WaitForSomething

2009-05-20 Thread Dima Ryazanov
I'm getting this all the time. It happened in Kubuntu 8.10, and still
happens in 9.04. I'm using an NVidia video card with proprietary drivers
version 180.

Usually, X freezes while I'm debugging another application. Perhaps that
application gets stopped in the middle of a request to the X server.
One time, I ran a program with "LD_DEBUG=all"; it was looking for
"xcb_wait_for_reply" in lots of libraries, found it in libxcb.so - and that's
the last line I got before X froze.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353763] Re: [i965gm] Blender is unusable with UXA (UXA bug)

2009-05-20 Thread Robert Hooker
Just installed blender to see and the same issue happens for me in
karmic on 945GME under UXA.

Packages:
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.7.99.1+git20090520.ad212882-0ubuntu0sarvatt
xorg-server 2:1.6.1.901-0ubuntu0sarvatt
mesa
7.6.0~git20090519.d0eccc41-0ubuntu0sarvatt
libdrm
2.4.11+git20090519.f355ad89-0ubuntu0sarvatt

They mention that the fix would be in xserver 1.6 branch back in the
beginning of may but I'm using the latest 1.6 branch from git and all of
those packages I update those packages on xorg-edgers just about every
day if there are any non-trivial commits.

Could it be dri2proto that needs to be updated and stuff rebuilt against that?
They added DRI2GetBuffersWithFormat interface to both -intel and dri2proto as
well as fixed a dri2 version check in xserver 1.6 branch a bit before this
comment
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19174#c10

Relevant commits -
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=5d6f4f6eb7a4dcbe1ce5a134d882e56f958ed2ba

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/proto/dri2proto/commit/?id=66c56ab10d917e3f47f93178d7eac6430970d3c4

I'll try updating mine and rebuilding everything against it when I get
some free time.

>Thanks. Btw, I notice you're using "uxa" and "greedy" together... do those
>have an effect beyond just setting "uxa" alone?

It ignores in UXA it so it's no problem

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 252094] Re: MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel

2009-05-20 Thread salemboot
Sounds like the kde session manager may have crashed, stalled and another
copy got loaded.
I'm not experienced enough with the internals of KDE to give you a deffinate
hypothesis.
A lot has changed from 3.5 up to 4.2.

Buntu is starting to become more like Slackware.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 326008] Re: screen does not redraw properly

2009-05-20 Thread nloewen
even if we could it would not be a good solution. when using openGL in
kubuntu I get about 20 frames per second when moving a window, with
xrender it's about 10. 20 I can live with but 10 is just awful. (Yes i
have an awful graphics card). The fps for openGL is comparable to what I
got with compiz in ubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378391] Re: Tapping now disabled by default

2009-05-20 Thread William Grant
Tap-to-click has been disabled upstream by default since some time
during Jaunty, but we've carried patches inside the driver itself to
change the defaults. The changes were clobbered a few days ago when
Debian renamed the source package from xfree86-driver-synaptics to
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, and we autosynced it. The new source
package replaced the patched binaries from the old one, and all of our
local changes went away.

We need to merge the changes from the old package to this new version -
I've got it mostly done in my PPA, and am updating it now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378866] [NEW] X doesn't find the input devices

2009-05-20 Thread Oliver Bedford
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After booting I am sometimes (it's unclear to me when exactly) not able
to use the keyboard or the mouse on my Dell Vostro 1310 notebook. All I
can do is to reboot using the Power switch. Apparently X does not
recognise the input devices. I am not sure if this is a bug in X or in
HAL.

System is:
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

This behaviour is new, Ubuntu 8.10 worked fine.

I've attached a diff of one working Xorg.0.log and one that didn't.

Browsing through syslog I couldn't find anything (but I also don't know
where to look).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 352708] Re: [i915] external screen stays dark after suspend/resume via lid

2009-05-20 Thread Andreas Schildbach
This is getting worse:

All of the above was dualscreen with extended desktop. Now, I tested a
mirrored configuration - this also shows the bug.

Then, I tried to just configure the notebook display, having the
external display shut off. When I close the lid, I briefly see the
external display being activated - just before the machine goes to
standby and all displays are switched off. When I re-open the lid,
suddenly only the external display is activated - it should not!

What is happening here?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376592] Re: Plugging in a keyboard loses the second keyboard layout when using more than one layout

2009-05-20 Thread Larry Reid
Doh! I made two nifty scripts for setting the keyboard automatically,
but neither works. When /usr/lib/hal/debian-setup-keyboard runs in
response to a keyboard being plugged in, it doesn't know which user
plugged in the keyboard or which display they're using. Therefore, it
can't get the keyboard preferences. There's a reason why this doesn't
work right. It's hard!

Perhaps there's a way to get hal to notify the gconf daemon to force it
to reapply the user's preferences?

P.S. All this is way beyond me. If you experts want to chime in with a
few hints about where to look, I'd sure appreciate it.

Some more insight: I tested several suspend methods without closing the
lid (pm-suspend, power-button), and they do not show the bug.
Furthermore, I tried closing the lid _after_ suspending with pm-suspend,
and resume via opening the lid. This also does not show the bug.

Re-test: If I suspend by closing the lid, the bug still shows up.

Thus, I guess this bug is only about suspending, not about resuming.

Is there anyone working on this / looking into it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376592] Re: Plugging in a keyboard loses the second keyboard layout when using more than one layout

2009-05-20 Thread Larry Reid
/usr/lib/hal/debian-setup-keyboard runs each time a keyboard is plugged
in. debian-setup-keyboard sets the keyboard model, layout, variants and
options from what's in /etc/default/console-setup, which doesn't reflect
anything set up by the keyboard preferences.

I can modify debian-setup-keyboard to set the values from the values
returned by xprop on the root window, or to use the values in
/etc/default/console-setup if I can't get them from xprop. I'll try to
make time to do that tonight or tomorrow morning, and I'll post the
revised debian-setup-keyboard here then.

I already tried that, with no chance; moreover, if I enable the mousekeys by
activating the shortcut,
the option box (that is still unselected) seems to have no effect at all,
even enabling and then disabling it

Nice hint, but it looks like it's another ignored setting. The mouse keys
can still be turned on,
and the shortcut is also working as before. Of course, this doesn't avoid my
problem to occur...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378617] Re: [G45] (DisplayPort) X cannot find monitor/EDID information

2009-05-20 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
First of all, thank you for filing a very good and thorough bug report,
even setting ModeDebug for good logs. I hope we will see more good bug
reports from you (well, I really hope you experience no more bugs, but
failing that...).

I checked a bit around, and it seems that the intel driver does not
support DisplayPort yet (I guess the G45 is their first card with
DisplayPort support(?)). There is some progress in making it work which
is described at this upstream bug report:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19995 . At
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/ you can see
that there is a branch called display-port, and if you're up to
compiling the driver yourself you may test with that one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376092] Re: [i945] Running Out of Memory with UXA (KMS)

2009-05-20 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
The PPA is updated quite often (every few days), since it is taken
directly from the master branch of the development tree. It is unlikely
(but possible) that it will go away automatically before your upstream
bug is addressed.

I'm not sure if there is currently any links to the wiki pages during
the bug reporting process. The one that should probably be referenced if
possible is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting . I actually assumed you
had read those documents since you filed a very good bug report here and
already knew about ubuntu-x-swat and xorg-edgers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378054] Re: Sometimes I can't click, some others can't write

2009-05-20 Thread Emanuele Bellini
Other details: I can't do Alt+Tab, if I press Alt+F2 sometimes isn't possible
to type anything inside the field to run other programs.
Moreover, other times I'm writing with the keyboard and it seems like a button
is pressed, in fact when I was typing these comments I had a window getting
opened (the one of the Downthemall plugin for Firefox).
I haven't explained well about the Awn malfunctioning: sometimes I have that if
I click in anywhere the active window get minimized, when I click again it gets
maximized. Before it happened with Gedit but I achieved to open the "Run..."
window with Alt+F2 so it was the active window. But the problem wasn't solved,
in fact I had Gedit still minimizing and maximizing.
I don't know if it's normal but I can't restart Gnome with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363375] Re: [multi screen] mouse position sometimes wrong

2009-05-20 Thread Vanessa Ezekowitz
To clarify Leon's method a little, the terminal with the Xorg.0.log
trace needs to be on the *secondary* screen, and your enter key needs to
be held down while focused on it. In my case, this will trigger the
bug 90% of the time, and I get those "invalid input device" messages in
40-50 line blocks.

However, if I put the terminal on primary screen, the mouse doesn't get
stuck. I still get those "invalid input device" messages, but they are
far less frequent in this case.

This also affects my system (Jaunty 32 bit, GF 6800 using two LCD
monitors via Xinerama). My workaround is fairly simple: Grab any
window (I use Alt + LeftButton) on the screen you're stuck on, such as a
terminal, and try to drag it over to the other monitor. Keep dragging
until you see it wrap once or twice, then drag it back to the monitor
you were stuck on. For me, this un-sticks it every time, without fail.

It should be included in the next build of the xorg-edgers PPA (
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers ), but be aware that once you
installed this PPA it's quiet hard to get rid of it again... Please
read the warnings on the website.

I guess it would be wise to wait for the next release of the intel
driver and use the ubuntu-x-swat PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat )

So, enough bug spam

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378724] [NEW] wine/openchrome freeze system

2009-05-20 Thread hrimfaxi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

Recently I upgraded my laptop from 8.04 to 8.10. Since then the system freezes
when running Wine application instantly. And wine icon displayed is corrupted.
I cannot use ctrl-alt-bs or else to abort X,only power off the laptop.
If I switch xorg driver to "vesa", or compile and install the newest openchrome
svn trunk(r747), the problem disappears.
So I think the problem is with package xserver-xorg-video-openchrome. The old
package named xserver-xorg-video-via in 8.04 is unaffected by this problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 282609] Re: [Q965] "No screens found"

2009-05-20 Thread Jordi Puigsegur
Hi all,

I just have a similar problem (though with different hardware). I have
an ASUS barebone with an Intel video card connected to a Samsung LCD TV.
Hardy worked perfectly but when upgrading to Intrepid Xserver crashed
and the "no screens found" error appeared in the log.

Since intrepid didn't work I upgraded to Jaunty with the same result.

Currently I am forced to use vesa driver, but with unsatisfactory
results (slow refresh, bad resolution, etc.).

I'll gather all information and submit here (or maybe it is better to
create a new bug?)

With driver 2:2.7.99.1+git20090519.09beee37-0ubuntu0sarvatt~jaunty,

sure we can close the bug, anyway it will be difficult to determine what
the normal result should be.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378671] [NEW] mouse cursor disappears when stationary

2009-05-20 Thread Andrew Simpson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

I upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty on a machine with an ATI card. As per
the warnings, I have changed my xorg.conf file to use the 'ati' driver
instead of 'fglrx' I was previously using. The bug is also present when
using the 'vesa' driver.

In gnome (any application), the mouse cursor now vanishes after about 2
seconds of being idle, much as it normally would when using a full-
screen video application. In some applications, for example where mouse-
over text is important, this is extremely frustrating, since the text
disappears with the cursor.

I'm aware this may be a setting somewhere, but nobody on the forums
could help with where. Even if so, it is unexpected behaviour.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378054] Re: Sometimes I can't click, some others can't write

2009-05-20 Thread Emanuele Bellini
Here it is my lspci output. I'm going to attach the dmesg output, I haven't
been able to save it.
The Alt combinations (Alt+F1, Alt+F2, Ctrl+Alt+F2) did work, moreover sometimes
if I try to click anywhere I have my task minimizing in the Awn dock - although
I had this problem before enabling it. I'm going to see if this bug is related
to compiz (I got it disabled).
