[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 269302] Re: At the GDM scree, Dell 610 laptop screen remains on while on a docking station and with an external screen connected
The bug is still there using current karmic. I've seen on a fedora 11 box there's an access to the screen configuration dialog from gdm. Could it be a workaround for this issue ? On a side note, it breaks badly the quality of the visual boot experience, as seen on the attached screenshot (which show the worst case, usually I get the gdm wallpaper tiled with 1024x768 tiles on a 1280x1024 screen). ** Attachment added: "Capture.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31953476/Capture.png -- At the GDM scree, Dell 610 laptop screen remains on while on a docking station and with an external screen connected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 431191] [NEW] Black screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Before new upstart system was working great. After upgrade uptodate I had this bug : #431178 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/431178 (see here for attachments).. So I use 20090917.1 amd64 live to install a fresh system. But now reboot after reboot I'v some text errors at boot and screen go black. System seem to work behind the black screen (I use ctrl+alt+del or I think that I can enter in session +). Recovery mode go black too so it's unusable After many manipulations reboot/power off I came at prompt because of corrupted file system. I do an fsck -y /dev/sda3 And after a reboot the system works great now (instead of having an usplash progression bar but it's another reported bug). ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- Black screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 370292] Re: [i855] X freezing on intel 855GM
Hi Nomnex, I'm no ubuntu bugsmith, so I don't know if you should be asking for advice or not here, but I'm happy to give it. :) If you follow that link you talk about, it will give you instructions on how to revert to the older version of the display driver. This older version is still fine and I haven't yet found any issues. It is, however, not very fast at 3D. If you're into gaming, I'd suggest having/keeping a dual boot with windows as you won't get very good performance out of the 855 under linux (well, under anything really, but windows will be better). I also suggest you turn off visual effects (system -> preferences -> appearance -> visual effects -> none) but you can try without and see if it's fast enough for you. It seems that this bug has been submitted upstream and for some reason, subsequently closed, even though the bug has not been fixed. It's the unfortunate state of affairs that some driver/software developers don't want to hear about bugs in their code and seem to react with derision towards anyone reporting. Possibly this is the case here, I don't know. I can understand their frustration though, as it seems that too many newcomers to linux don't understand how FOSS works and treat the developers as if they *should* or *have to* help them. It can be frustrating to both parties, however everyone needs to remember that the developers are putting in their own time and effort for free and have no obligation to do *anything* for *anyone*. I have given up hope on this bug being fixed and will continue to use the 2.4 drivers until it's time to upgrade my laptop. Hopefully these older drivers remain compatible with future X changes until this time. If you want to take this bug further, I'm sure someone else subscribed to this bug report will be able to direct you in the right direction. Just remember the point above; in this community, the developers are considered gods and justifiably so. For a developer to fix this bug is to do you a favour so try to avoid getting angry or frustrated if they decline. I hope this helps. :) Mike On Thu, 2009-09-17 at 04:02 +, nomnex wrote: > @Mike Rose and everybody on the thread. > > Hi, glad I found this thread. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 431043] Re: After upgrade to 2.7.1, suspended machine resumes to gdm login screen
KLEIN Stéphane, the packages from the x-updates PPA are not officially supported. For a while after the release of Jaunty, we were interested in bugs from this PPA since they couldend up in Karmic. Now, there is a newer driver (2.8.1) in Karmic and we're only really interested in problems that are present there (I guess the description on the PPA page should be updated). I'm closing this bug report, but it would be nice if you could test for this problem in Karmic. LiveCD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/ (alpha-6 should be available soon) and http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/ (daily updated, but possibly less stable, one of those will be tested and become alpha-6). If the bug is still present, please report it with the `ubuntu-bug` command like just like you did with this one (preferably right after such a restart). ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- After upgrade to 2.7.1, suspended machine resumes to gdm login screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431043 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 429307] Re: [i965GM] video corruption when changing windows after suspend-resume
As you understand, you have two different bugs here triggered by the suspend cycle. Since this bug report originally is about the corruption, I suggest that we focus on that here. It would be nice if you could report the window manager problem as well as another bug report. Since the before-after files really are for seeing what changes during suspend-resume and triggers the bug, we would need files for when the corruption happens afterwards for this bug report. It's nice to have the ones you already uploaded as well, since we can then see if thebehaviour is different. Depending on how often the corruption happens, you may have to run through the procedure a few times to get before-after files from when the corruption is triggered. Just to make sure, take a copy of Xorg.0.log also from the cycle when the bug is triggered, so that we have a set of log files that are all from the same run. The files you have should be good for the WM bug report, though. -- [i965GM] video corruption when changing windows after suspend-resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/429307 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 278260] Re: [i865g] ACER AL1715 inactive on boot 8.10 Beta
I'm having a similar problem - the monitor goes into standby as soon as X starts when using the "intel" driver, but when the default video driver is used for X it works fine, but with no 3D acceleration (i assume it's fallen back to the VESA driver). Unfortunately for me there's no upgrade slots (everything onboard), so this is actually an issue. What I think may be happening is the card may not be initialising properly. here's "sudo lspci -v" + 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82865G/PE/P DRAM Controller/Host-Hub Interface (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Memory at f800 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M] Capabilities: [e4] Vendor Specific Information Kernel driver in use: agpgart-intel Kernel modules: intel-agp 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: fast devsel, IRQ 11 Memory at f000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Memory at feb8 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] I/O ports at ed98 [size=8] Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 1 Kernel modules: intelfb 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 I/O ports at ff80 [size=32] Kernel driver in use: uhci_hcd 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18 I/O ports at ff40 [size=32] Kernel driver in use: uhci_hcd 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 I/O ports at ff20 [size=32] Kernel driver in use: uhci_hcd 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 20) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 23 Memory at ffa80800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [58] Debug port: BAR=1 offset=00a0 Kernel driver in use: ehci_hcd 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev c2) Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Bus: primary=00, secondary=01, subordinate=01, sec-latency=32 I/O behind bridge: d000-dfff Memory behind bridge: fea0-feaf Kernel modules: shpchp 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 02) Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0 Kernel modules: iTCO_wdt, intel-rng 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) IDE Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 8a [Master SecP PriP]) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18 I/O ports at 01f0 [size=8] I/O ports at 03f4 [size=1] I/O ports at 0170 [size=8] I/O ports at 0374 [size=1] I/O ports at ffa0 [size=16] Memory at feb7fc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] Kernel driver in use: ata_piix 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) SMBus Controller (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 5 I/O ports at eda0 [size=32] Kernel modules: i2c-i801 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17 I/O ports at ee00 [size=256] I/O ports at edc0 [size=64] Memory at feb7fa00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512] Memory at feb7f900 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Kernel driver in use: Intel ICH Kernel modules: snd-intel8x0 01:0c.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 18 Memory at feae (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K] I/O ports at df40 [size=64] Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [e4] PCI-X non-bridge device Capabilities: [f0] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable- Kernel driver in use: e1000 Kernel modules: e1000 + and xorg.conf + Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" # Driver "intel" EndSection Section "

Got the bug today with a fresh install Karmic (20090916) Since in Karmic there are no xorg.conf file exists in the /etc/X11 directory anymore, nvidia-settins doesn't like that. :( (Tried create an empty xorg.conf file, no good) In the end, you will need to run: sudo nvidia-xconfig Then, gksudo nvidia-settings Everything will work after that. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419126] Re: [ATI R6xx and above] X fails to start up after mesa+git update - gdm loops after logging in
In #radeon irc channel we found solution for gentoo users with similar problems. It was caused by commit a381287759b2b65e7de9fb35801c781cab016f10 (log: "drm/radeon/kms/r600: use blit for BO moves") in drm-next branch of Airlied's kernele tree. Reverting solves the problem until blit copy code is fixed. Thanks Pauli, I was recommended this option some time ago and indeed it restores display (forgot to mention it on this thread). This problem appeared when I changed motherboard.
