X froze again today - but in a different way. The picture on the screen became corrupted. The image basically black with some some random white static. I wasn't able to catch the debug info this time because it happened too soon after rebooting and I didn't get a chance to start X in debug mode. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418282] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Asus U80 series. Touchpad Panel missing from mouse settings
It would be so great if people stopped using "tpconfig" to "prove" that they have Synaptics touchpad and thus Synaptics X driver ought to work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490410] [NEW] Application window does not resize correctly
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: openoffice.org When resizing the main application window, it does not resize correctly. In particular, when the top or left boundaries of the window are used to perform the resizing, the application's title-bar, main menu and icons are not redrawn correctly and become inaccessible. Steps to reproduce: 1) From the Applications menu, start one of the OpenOffice applications (Word Processor, Spreadsheet or Presentation). 2) Attempt to resize the window by dragging the top or left edge of the application window (you may need to click the application window's "(un)maximise" button (top right, next to the "X" for closing the window) to allow resizing). What I expect to happen: The application's layout (including the title-bar, main menu and icons) should be adjusted and re-drawn dynamically as the application is resized, and then finally when the resize operation is complete. What happens instead: The application's layout is not adjusted, and the title-bar, main menu and/or icons become inaccessible. Workarounds: Right-click on the application in the panel at the bottom of the screen, and choose "Maximise" from the pop-up menu... then repeat and choose "unmaximise". The application is redrawn correctly in it's new size. (This does not work with "Minimise - Unminimise"). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477066] Re: kdm fails to start/restart (but gdm does properly) in kubuntu karmic 64 bits and nvidia driver 185
same problem here: kubuntu karmic with 2.6.31-15 and nvidia 185 (current packages). going back to 2.6.31-14 kernel solved the problem for me. I debugged the issue with strace: kdm doesn't crash, nor does the xserver. the problem is that X does open("/dev/nvidia0") and that takes about 15 seconds for some reason. kdm then thinks "starting X server takes too long, something must be wrong" and terminates the X server (and tries to start a failsafe one). when you look at the laptop screen (my case: lenovo T61 with nvs 140 quadro chip), the screen goes black when X is started, and it takes maybe 10 seconds till the nvidia logo appears. normaly the nvidia logo appears within a few seconds. in syslog you can see these messages: Nov 30 15:32:12 yomigaeri kdm[6476]: X server startup timeout, terminating Nov 30 15:32:15 yomigaeri kdm[6476]: X server died during startup Nov 30 15:32:15 yomigaeri kdm[6476]: Failed to start X server. Starting failsafe X server. so you know kdm stopped X server because it took too long to start. in my case X was started 15:31:56, and in strace there was a gap from :57 to :10 or so when open("/dev/nvidia0") was done. the kernel/dmesg doesn't have any error message from nvidia driver or similar. -- kdm fails to start/restart (but gdm does properly) in kubuntu karmic 64 bits and nvidia driver 185 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477066 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490360] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] Icons and screen objects appear corrupt in Karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I installed about 30 updates today and after reboot, I get some screen corruption, starting even with the boot splash animation. Some things, like Firefox web content and Netbook Remix appears correctly while others like gnome-panel and nautilus is corrupted. The problem persists after reboot. Please see the attached screenshot for details. I had the exact same problems a couple of months ago but it went away with. I'm using an Asus EEE 904HD, running Karmic Koala with kernel 2.6.31-15-generic and xorg edgers. Not sure if this is due to something broken in xorg or if it's something else. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486473] Re: Mouse starts acting weird.
** Package changed: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) => xorg (Ubuntu) ** Description changed: From time to time my mouse starts acting weird. The pointer still moves as expected but on clicks it reacts as if the position didn't change (i.e. wherever I click, the reaction stays the same.) Since this happens in KDE as well as in XFCE, I think this bug is in xorg or hald. But I'm not quite sure where exactly. I'm running an up-to-date kubuntu 9.10 (amd64). edit: Got some additional information: - GDM won't start. It just pops up a message that says it won't start due to the Error "(EE) HID 046a:0023: failed to initialize for relative axes.". + GDM won't start. It just pops up a message that says it won't start due to the Error "(EE) HID 046a:0023: failed to initialize for relative axes.". 046a:0023 is my keyboard. It has no axis. ("Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046a:0023 Cherry GmbH Cymotion Master Linux Keyboard") KDM starts without an error message. The mouse position seems not to be caught at one point but at an area (i.e. a textarea in a chatprogram or the menu of a window). As I tried to describe: The visible pointer is not caught at all. But when I click it reacts as if it was in the area where it's caught. I have no idea how to trigger the bug. It happens while watching movies or typing (it just happened while I wrote this). It once even happened directly after the login. + edit2: + This happens with the nv (xserver-xorg-video-nv-1:2.1.14-2ubuntu3) driver as well as with nvidia (nvidia-glx-185.18.36-0ubuntu9). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490298] [NEW] Screen corruption
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I am getting some screen corruption using Kubuntu Karmic on my Intel GMA965. I am unsure if it's the intel driver, KDE or the way KDE uses the intel driver. I will attach a screenshot showing an example. This first happened in Jaunty, and has not really fixed itself with the newer intel driver, so I suspect the problem lies there. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490289] [NEW] Karmic's default (space pics) transitional background pictures stay merged. Froze during transition?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The background picture seems stuck half-way between transitions. The previous background seems like it's been merged with the next! (see attached pic) My background is the auto-changing one from the defaults that comes with Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic: /usr/share/backgrounds/cosmos/background-1.xml I really like it since I accidentally found out it automatically changes every few minutes (and wish there was an Ubuntu program to make more). I'm not sure when it happened, as I've had the PC on for most of the day (not sure if that would do anything), but with programs covering the background. The only other weird thing that happened that I wonder might be related is that so far today the computer never went to the screensaver and didn't even blank the screen when I was away for long periods of time. I've been trying out MoinMoin wiki from a flash drive, but that's the only thing that I haven't done before... I wonder could that program mess up the background? Sorry if I chose the wrong package for the bug. Thanks for your time~ Have a great day!!! ^_^ P.S. Am I supposed to file a bug even when it's the first time it happened, or should I wait until it happens again to make sure it's a real bug? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373367] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head
Since this bug (!) is set to whichlist priority, I decided to write my own code. I wasn't able to find the source of the problem, so I spent one weekend to learn C++ with Xlib and wrote a little app that creates a undecorated black window that prevents the mouse from entering it. If initialized such that the window covers the void, the mouse effectively cannot go there. Take a look at the readme.txt for a detailed description + example or read the source code directly. ** Attachment added: "tiny program to prevent the mouse from entering the void." http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36255064/XCreateMouseVoid.tar.gz -- Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373367 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxrandr in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
