2009-11-30 Thread Bruno Bigras
Why is it "Fix Committed" for nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 is the change
seems to be needed in the kdm package?

Is there an updated package?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 485338] Re: [i845G] X11 with Intel graphics freezing repeatedly

2009-11-30 Thread David Kelly
X froze again today - but in a different way. The picture on the screen
became corrupted. The image basically black with some some random white
static. I could kind of see the outline of my mouse as I moved it
around, but nothing else was visible. I wasn't able to catch the debug
info this time because it happened too soon after rebooting and I didn't
get a chance to start X in debug mode. I will try to reproduce again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 485651] Re: Karmic + KDM + NVidia = Can't boot (low graphic mode)

2009-11-30 Thread D. Wegener
I started experiencing this today after applying the latest xserver
updates for Karmic (1:7.4+3ubuntu10). If you cancel out of the low
graphic mode dialog quickly enough, kdm will restart and run normally.

The problem results in the following messages in the kdm.log file:

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
 at http://wiki.x.org
 for help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418282] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Asus U80 series. Touchpad Panel missing from mouse settings

2009-11-30 Thread Dmitry Torokhov
It would be so great if people stopped using "tpconfig" to "prove" that
they have Synaptics touchpad and thus Synaptics X driver ought to work.
The utility has not been working on 2.5 and never kernels (since the
kernel does not allow raw access to the PS/2 port by default so all
tpconfig gets is some cooked data supplied by the kernel).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 460664] Re: "White screen of death" on Dell Studio 15

2009-11-30 Thread Hugh Blemings
We have an embargoed CVE (Security patch kernel) waiting to go out - due
to go out later this week.

Once that's done the deck is clear to do a SRU release which will
include the fixes being discussed. Rough ETA for this SRU release is
prior to Christmas - has to sit in proposed per normal policy.

We have taken the additional step of arranging to have this SRU release
get some additional testing from our QA team.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477066] Re: kdm fails to start/restart (but gdm does properly) in kubuntu karmic 64 bits and nvidia driver 185

2009-11-30 Thread jth
Hi
I got the same thing, slow start of X with nvidia causing kdm to abort the
start of X.
Blinked screen many times and failed to start X and sometimes I had to try up
to ten or more times to get into grapic mode.

I tried different kernels .28 .31-14 .31-15 and nvidia drivers 180 185
and 190 until I found this.

Making the timeout a bit longer in kdm make it work fine.
I found this from Daniel here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=524751

To resolve the problem change or add in the X-*-Core section in
/etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc
[X-*-Core]
ServerTimeout=120

Hope it helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490031] Re: Radeon 9250 no 3D.

2009-11-30 Thread Walter Kerkhofs
Some more information that I forgot to give.

Just after the release of 9.10 Karmic I found that this card still is suported
by the fglrx driver, so I installed fglrx and made the change in the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
After the reboot everything worked fine, but my Internet conection was gone.
So I removed everything with the name fglrx from my system in Synaptic, and
changed my xorg.conf back like it was before.

Also I have all the codecs installed including flash, but I still can
not watch flash movies.

My favorite game is Foobillard, but it runs very slow now.

Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490410] [NEW] Application window does not resize correctly

2009-11-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When resizing the main application window, it does not resize correctly.
In particular, when the top or left boundaries of the window are used to
perform the resizing, the application's title-bar, main menu and icons
are not redrawn correctly and become inaccessible.

Steps to reproduce:
1) From the Applications menu, start one of the OpenOffice applications (Word
Processor, Spreadsheet or Presentation).
2) Attempt to resize the window by dragging the top or left edge of the
application window (you may need to click the application window's
"(un)maximise" button (top right, next to the "X" for closing the window) to
allow resizing).

What I expect to happen:
The application's layout (including the title-bar, main menu and icons) should
be adjusted and re-drawn dynamically as the application is resized, and then
finally when the resize operation is complete.

What happens instead:
The application's layout is not adjusted, and the title-bar, main menu and/or
icons become inaccessible.

Workarounds:
Right-click on the application in the panel at the bottom of the screen, and
choose "Maximise" from the pop-up menu... then repeat and choose "unmaximise".
The application is redrawn correctly in it's new size. (This does not work with
"Minimise - Unminimise").

Removing the vesa driver from the system eventually lets X start with

one issue but it got solved as soon as I reported it on

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 367053] Re: [HD3300] Kubuntu: logout crashes X on AMD64

2009-11-30 Thread abemud
I have 32bit and use radeon driver. 9.10 still doesn't work. But after
configuring the driver to use XAA instead of EXA, logout never crashes
or hang.

During normal usage, the driver still hangs but rarely. Overall the
driver is bad.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 482277] Re: [xorg-edgers] Radeon dri2 not working with kernel 2.6.32rc7

2009-11-30 Thread abujafar
i have some good news to share. I get a working configuration using kernel
2.6.32rc8, drivers from
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/drivers-only and modified gdm.conf
file from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/RadeonKMS
Everything else to karmic's default (even the splash option at boot time).

OT question: Is it possible to specify somewhere the boot video
resolution? it starts with 1280x1...@60 and then modified after login by
gnome to 1280x1...@75.

2009-11-30 Thread apo
This also happens on lucid lynx amd64 on a Dell m1330 notebook. Does
anyone now which things trigger kdm to start through upstart? Maybe we
have to add something there. The startup file should be
/etc/init/kdm.conf

Has anyone tried to delete it yet? Would be interesting to see if it
still occurs or if X is not started at all.

2009-11-30 Thread Jonny Nilsson
This problem looks to be related to the nvidia drivers.
I think it's because nvidia can't detect the right resolution for the monitor.
And unfortunately forcing a resolution in ubuntu or any linux dist for that
matter is not easy to say the least...

Running latest ubuntu here (9.10).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477066] Re: kdm fails to start/restart (but gdm does properly) in kubuntu karmic 64 bits and nvidia driver 185

2009-11-30 Thread Andreas Jellinghaus
same problem here: kubuntu karmic with 2.6.31-15 and nvidia 185 (current
packages).
going back to 2.6.31-14 kernel solved the problem for me.

I debugged the issue with strace: kdm doesn't crash, nor does the xserver. the
problem
is that X does open("/dev/nvidia0") and that takes about 15 seconds for some
reason.
kdm then thinks "starting X server takes too long, something must be wrong" and
terminates
the X server (and tries to start a failsafe one).

when you look at the laptop screen (my case: lenovo T61 with nvs 140 quadro
chip), the
screen goes black when X is started, and it takes maybe 10 seconds till the
nvidia logo
appears. normaly the nvidia logo appears within a few seconds.

in syslog you can see these messages:
Nov 30 15:32:12 yomigaeri kdm[6476]: X server startup timeout, terminating
Nov 30 15:32:15 yomigaeri kdm[6476]: X server died during startup
Nov 30 15:32:15 yomigaeri kdm[6476]: Failed to start X server. Starting
failsafe X server.

so you know kdm stopped X server because it took too long to start. in my case
X was started
15:31:56, and in strace there was a gap from :57 to :10 or so when
open("/dev/nvidia0") was done.

the kernel/dmesg doesn't have any error message from nvidia driver or
similar.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490360] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] Icons and screen objects appear corrupt in Karmic

2009-11-30 Thread thezood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I installed about 30 updates today and after reboot, I get some screen
corruption, starting even with the boot splash animation. Some things,
like Firefox web content and Netbook Remix appears correctly while
others like gnome-panel and nautilus is corrupted. The problem persists
after reboot. Please see the attached screenshot for details.

I had the exact same problems a couple of months ago but it went away
with.

I'm using an Asus EEE 904HD, running Karmic Koala with kernel
2.6.31-15-generic and xorg edgers. Not sure if this is due to something
broken in xorg or if it's something else.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486473] Re: Mouse starts acting weird.

2009-11-30 Thread LaunchPeter
** Package changed: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) => xorg
(Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

From time to time my mouse starts acting weird. The pointer still moves
as expected but on clicks it reacts as if the position didn't change
(i.e. wherever I click, the reaction stays the same.)

Since this happens in KDE as well as in XFCE, I think this bug is in
xorg or hald. But I'm not quite sure where exactly.

  I'm running an up-to-date kubuntu 9.10 (amd64).

  edit: Got some additional information:
- GDM won't start. It just pops up a message that says it won't start due to
the Error "(EE) HID 046a:0023: failed to initialize for relative axes.".
+ GDM won't start. It just pops up a message that says it won't start due to
the Error "(EE) HID 046a:0023: failed to initialize for relative axes.".
046a:0023 is my keyboard. It has no axis. ("Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046a:0023
Cherry GmbH Cymotion Master Linux Keyboard")
KDM starts without an error message.

The mouse position seems not to be caught at one point but at an area (i.e. a
textarea in a chatprogram or the menu of a window).
As I tried to describe: The visible pointer is not caught at all. But when I
click it reacts as if it was in the area where it's caught.

I have no idea how to trigger the bug. It happens while watching movies
or typing (it just happened while I wrote this). It once even happened
  directly after the login.

+ edit2:
+ This happens with the nv (xserver-xorg-video-nv-1:2.1.14-2ubuntu3) driver as
well as with nvidia (nvidia-glx-185.18.36-0ubuntu9).

My preivious report was false, please disregard. I resolved it by
removing all X related dot files in my home folder.

I still get ddxSigGiveUp message when closing X but I do not know what
it refers to, everything works.

2009-11-30 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Thank you for the backtrace. It is a little bit different from Sami's
in that it is main() -> BIF_init() -> GPU_state_init while Sami's is
through WM_init() and some other wm_ functions. At least both crash in
GPU_state_init().

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490298] [NEW] Screen corruption

2009-11-30 Thread Julian Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I am getting some screen corruption using Kubuntu Karmic on my Intel
GMA965. I am unsure if it's the intel driver, KDE or the way KDE uses
the intel driver. I will attach a screenshot showing an example.

This first happened in Jaunty, and has not really fixed itself with the
newer intel driver, so I suspect the problem lies there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490289] [NEW] Karmic's default (space pics) transitional background pictures stay merged. Froze during transition?

2009-11-30 Thread Zeniff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The background picture seems stuck half-way between transitions. The
previous background seems like it's been merged with the next! (see
attached pic)

My background is the auto-changing one from the defaults that comes with Ubuntu
9.10 Karmic:
/usr/share/backgrounds/cosmos/background-1.xml
I really like it since I accidentally found out it automatically changes every
few minutes (and wish there was an Ubuntu program to make more).

I'm not sure when it happened, as I've had the PC on for most of the day
(not sure if that would do anything), but with programs covering the
background.

The only other weird thing that happened that I wonder might be related
is that so far today the computer never went to the screensaver and
didn't even blank the screen when I was away for long periods of time.
I've been trying out MoinMoin wiki from a flash drive, but that's the
only thing that I haven't done before... I wonder could that program
mess up the background?

Sorry if I chose the wrong package for the bug.

Thanks for your time~ Have a great day!!! ^_^

P.S. Am I supposed to file a bug even when it's the first time it
happened, or should I wait until it happens again to make sure it's a
real bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373367] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head

2009-11-30 Thread nZain
Since this bug (!) is set to whichlist priority, I decided to write my
own code. I wasn't able to find the source of the problem, so I spent
one weekend to learn C++ with Xlib and wrote a little app that creates a
undecorated black window that prevents the mouse from entering it. If
initialized such that the window covers the void, the mouse effectively
cannot go there.

Take a look at the readme.txt for a detailed description + example or
read the source code directly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 446632] Re: blender-bin crashed with SIGSEGV in GPU_state_init()

2009-11-30 Thread mistr
The analysis of the core dump did not look very informative (no
symbols). So I let blender-bin crash inside gdb. (The file named
blender is a shell script executing blender-bin).

Looks like the same bug to me.

There were new packages from xorg-edgers, today. This analysis was
performed using those packages.
