[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 293012] Re: glxinfo badRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
I don't know if this was entirely related to this bug, but my problems have gone away. At one point, I got tired of dealing with a buggy system, and decided to go about trying to fix the problems I was having. Through my attempts to fix an unrelated problem, I suddenly realized that I wasn't using the most updated kernel. I dual boot, and my /boot is on a different partition. However, this partition is not mounted into Ubuntu's /boot directory once Ubuntu is loaded. (I used this boot partition for trying to install gentoo, and now I just use it to boot Ubuntu or Windows.) I realized that, even though I was installing new versions of the kernel from the repository, I wasn't actually using them. I had to manually edit my boot partition's grub.conf. Then suddenly, the problem went away. I was using Ububtu 9.10 by this time though, so I'm not sure whether this bug got fixed before or not. Just that my finally using the newest kernel fixed all problems I was having with fglrx. -- glxinfo badRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 484020] Re: [i845G] Display freezes (except for mouse pointer) without warning
Hi Geir, hope you had a good holiday! > To me this sound like a serious problem that both Canonical and > Intel (and Mandriva, etc.) should have high on their priority > list. It doesn't look like it is the case, though. That's what frustrates me about this bug. Given how common Intel onboard video is, especially in business-class systems, you'd expect the driver for it to be particularly stable---and if there's a problem with it, that it would get fixed quickly. If there were a kernel-panic bug in the Intel NIC driver, how quickly would that get addressed? > Have you seen this response anywhere? So far I haven't seen any > response from Canonical at all on this problem. My point was, it's the lack of a response that says as much. Whether or not this bug is fixed on Lucid shouldn't depend on some random Linux guru taking the initiative. Ubuntu is their product; where are they on this? Anyway, for now, are the three freezetestN kernels still in need of testing, or should I move on to the drivers in Brian Rogers' PPA? You have been subscribed to a public bug: Wayland is a nano display server, relying on drm modesetting, gem batchbuffer submission and hw initialization generally in the kernel. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 503139] [NEW] Unable to get highest resolution with Xenarc monitor
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I purchased a Xenarc 800TSV touch-screen monitor several months ago and just am now getting around to testing it with Linux (Ubuntu 9.10 using Linux 2.6.31-14 generic #48 kernel). I downloaded the latest touch-screen drivers from their website. All seems to be working except for one thing -- the OS cannot seem to break into the highest resolution of 1024x768. The most it allows is 800x600. When I open up the "Display Preferences" application, the highest it will go is 960x600. When I choose that option, the screen cuts-out about 1/5th of the visible portion, making 800x600 the highest working resolution. I am aware that the monitor has an 800x600 physical resolution, but it will support 1024x768 (which seems to work fine under Windows XP). Here is a link to the product info page: http://www.xenarc.com/product/800tsv.html I first wrote to the manufacturer in regards to this problem. Here is their response: "The drivers are only for the touch screen portion of the monitor. They are not drivers for the display. For that, the monitor will use the default drivers from your OS. >From your description of the “Display Preferences”, it sounds like your graphics card does not support 1024x768. You may need to update the graphics drivers on your OS." [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494189] [NEW] memory leak when scrolling windows
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gdm Some apps are experiencing issues where memory usage grows wildly when scrolling in a window. When the total system memory usage grows close to 100%, the app I am scrolling crashes and the memory it once consumed is returned. Top reports memory belonging to Xorg. Here is some data about my system: * 4GB of memory, only 10% in use after boot and launching normally used apps * Kernel is linux-image-generic-pae (although at the time of the bug filing I am using linux-image-generic to see if PAE was the issue) * Using Gnome desktop, and problem exists with or without compositing enabled * All software is up-to-date as of the time of posting * NVidia GeForce 7300 LE, running dual monitors via TwinView To reproduce, I open gnome-terminal, do something to that generates enough output to scroll the window, move the scroll bar up and down repeatedly, memory grows, then it appears to fill physical memory and then gnome-terminal crashes and then memory is recovered. Under normal use, it happens in gnome-terminal or Eclipse Galileo within a few hours of working (I'm a Java developer), and is EXTREMELY frustrating. This also happened when scrolling in gedit and evince. It did not happen when scrolling in firefox, gvim, or open office. A workaround for an unrelated issue with Eclipse to fix an issue with dialog display resolves the scrolling/memory problem. The workaround was to set the environment var GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1, which disables client side windows. This workaround also resolves the scrolling/memory problem in all other apps when set properly. Although I have a working workaround, the bug still exists. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 512387] Re: [GM45] System Hangs on Connecting External Monitor
Thanks Geir for the pointers to the other bugs. The freeze happens instantly. I tried the following: started in recovery mode without X and the freeze/hang happened even then. So it seemed like a kernel issue and more like bug 319717. I looked over the other bug and found a possible work-around - adding 'acpi_osi="!Windows 2006" to the kernel boot parameters. This seems to have done the trick - after booting into the kernel with this parameter, I don't see the freeze/hang issue anymore. However 319717 reports that the issue was fixed in v2.6.31-rc1 which is the ubuntu 2.6.31-1.13 kernel. I am currently running 2.6.31-17. I have attached dmesg and kernel logs while booting with acpi_osi parameter. ** Attachment added: "dmesg with acpi_osi set to '!Windows 2006'" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38426503/dmesg.txt.acpi_osi -- [GM45] System Hangs on Connecting External Monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/512387 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This option force on kernel to use other method of allocation PCI resources. IHMO only way to use this method (CRS) is append this option to kernel parameters. So I think this resolution is not best, becouse this is not nature of the problem. The question is: why kernel with 4gb ram can't correctly allocate PCI resource using classical (not CRS) method, this is important because in future this option (use_crs) can be removed or changed. In my free time I try search more and maybe I will find source of the problem. You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: xorg Sometimes, usually once-twice a day, my Ubuntu freezes. Everything seems blocked: keyboard, mouse, screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multi fingers touch doesn't be correctly recognized
ive managed to get multi touch working, but its terrible. i cant believe how bad this is considering it worked flawlessly on windows. its taken me about 10 hours of tweaking to get it to a semi-satisfactory level when it took 1 minute to set up on xp. there are jerky mouse movements when you leave one finger down after scrolling, sometimes it keeps scrolling after you stop moving your fingers, the two/three finger touch emulation doesnt work half of the time, sometimes you try and middle click and it thinks you are scrolling and moves half way down the page, sometimes you have to tap 3 or 4 times before it recognises it. how hard can it be to get right? dont tell me "your netbook doesnt support multi touch", it DOES because when i first bought the thing i immediately tried to set up multitouch on xp and it worked perfectly (scrolling, middle clicking, right clicking) and as soon as i installed netbook remix it didnt work at all. for the people still trying to get it working to some degree, this post will help: http://blog.twinapex.fi/2009/10/11/setting-up-multi-touch- scrolling-for-ubuntu-9-10-karmic-koala-linux-on-asus-eee-1005ha-netbook/ the HAL stuff doesnt work any more so just run the script towards the end. personally i had to tweaks the values to get it working, my values were xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Two-Finger Pressure" 32 11 xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Two-Finger Width" 32 5 xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Jumpy Cursor Threshold" 32 0 you can make this script run after login by adding it to /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default for people trying to set up two touch middle click, wow thats another thing that doesnt work out of the box and there is no way to change it because of a bug. what i did was make a script which executes "synclient TapButton2=2 TapButton3=3" and create an entry in startup applications so it runs after login, this makes three finger touch = right click and two finger touch = middle click the way it *should* be by default but the shitty developers of this mess decided otherwise please sort this out because you are ruining my netbook experience -- Multi fingers touch doesn't be correctly recognized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I had > to get :0.log by booting a rescue CD and copying it that way. I hope > that it's still usable. It is a known problem that reading i915_regs can cause a lockup on some computers. This file has been removed in recent kernels. You can copy the other i915 files by using sudo cp -r /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_{[a-q],ring}* dri_debug-$datestr instead of sudo cp -r /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915* dri_debug-$datestr What would make life easier is if you found a way to reproduce the freeze more quickly. There is a gnome-specific script that was good at reproducing some freezes on 965GM a while ago. That could be a starting point, but would require some research into how to automate things in other WMs. Otherwise, I'm a little bit surprised the xorg-edgers should make a difference regarding this freeze. Maybe you could go back to xorg-edgers and enable desktop effects there as well, then maybe you can get a freeze and a nice bathbuffer dump. -- [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
