[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534217] [NEW] x200s hung with oops in Xorg (drm .33)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg HW: ThinkPad X200s with GM45 SW: Kubuntu Lucid, up-to-date + drm .33 kernel (from apw's ppa) I was running freshly booted system (for cca 30 minutes), with Kontact and Chromium browser. I was just moving my mouse over Chromium browser, when the mouse pointer froze and I could not do anything else (switch VT, Ctrl-Alt-Del/Bksp) but power-off. Note: I have installed drm .33 to help debug another hang (bug 533144) - not sure if these two are releated. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845g] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in
Just to clarify: I've had text console switching misbehaviour both times I've tried driver version 2:2.7.0-jaunty1. It's not a complete X freeze: the keyboard stays responsive, I can see the monitor turning its backlight off and on as I attempt to switch screens, and the monitor's OSD reports 1024x768 as it should. But the only way I've found to restore a non-black text or GUI screen is to reboot - restarting gdm doesn't do it. Do you think this is related to the freeze we're chasing? Even if not, given that this misbehaviour is so quickly and reliably triggered, is it worth bisecting for in its own right? -- [i845g] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/456902 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

If you absolutely cannot reproduce the issue I will provide the demanded logs. However that would require me to wipe my working xubuntu setup so I'd be glad if someone tried to reproduce it first. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527527] Re: Xorg freeze after suspend blank screen
Installed the ppa:apw/red from the link .. https://edge.launchpad.net/~apw/+archive/red Did my testing below with limited stuff running on the desktop. Only scenario 4 was successful - rest failed. Please see the testing results below. In short, the bug exists if I carry out suspend by closing laptop lid (a common scenario) as compared to do a manual suspend. Attaching the /var/log/pm-suspend log file. The only thing that happened between the scenarios is reboots - check the last 4-5 entries - i carried out my testing in the below order. Scenario 1: - Close laptop lid. Laptop is set to suspend in powermanager settings. - LED indicate the laptop did not suspend properly. The powerstate LED is expected to blink on successful suspend - Open the lid. The screen is blank. No response to Ctrl+Alt+F1 to F7. - Need to hard reboot. Scenario 2: - Use the shutdown menu to choose "Sleep" option. This should suspend the system. - Same as Scenario 1 - Need to hard reboot. Scenario 3 - Comment out the quirk in xorg.conf. Above 2 scenarios had this option turned "on". - service gdm restart # from ... https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Quirks#Force%20Pipe%20A%20Quirk #Option "ForceEnablePipeA" "true" - Close laptop lid. Laptop is set to suspend in powermanager settings. - Powerstate LED starts blinking indicating a successful suspend - Open the lid - LEDs start getting into action indicating waking up of laptop - But, no display - blank screen. system frozen, no response to any keys. Ctrl+Alt+F1-F7 - Need to hard reboot. Scenario 4 - Comment out the quirk in xorg.conf. Above 2 scenarios had this option turned "on". - service gdm restart # from ... https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Quirks#Force%20Pipe%20A%20Quirk #Option "ForceEnablePipeA" "true" - Use the shutdown menu to choose "Sleep" option. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 348914] [NEW] Display intermittently fails on login with Samsung 205BW
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have just installed 8.10 on a new machine that has a Intel 3100 graphics and Samsung 205BW monitor (lspci attached). Sometimes I can get to login screen and the graphics are perfect, but most of the time the screen just blanks out. I can still login 'in the dark' because I hear the ubuntu login prompt but even if I do, it remains blank. Interestingly, when selecting between boot options between kernel versions 2.6.27.11 and 2.6.27.7, the earlier kernel seemed to work slightly better in that I get a display more regularly (say 40% I get display at login compared to say 10%). With a different monitors I have no problem. Clearly the monitor may be root cause, but as a Chartered Engineer, I would call this a bug in either the kernel or Xorg because of the intermittent nature - sometimes I get a display other-times not. Note once I am in, there is no problem with display and everything works fine in maximum resolution. Also, when booting after GRUB, the display is always perfect (i.e. whilst watch the progress bar) - its just before and when you get to login stage. I have researched this problem extensively and made changes to my Xorg.conf as a result to provide explicit info to X regarding necessary 205BW resolution, hsync, vsync settings etc (file attached) since some forums suggest the problem lies with incorrect ESID from the 205BW. However, it still does not work properly. I have even installed the latest Ubuntu alpha 6 release (jaunty) but again I have the same problem. Even changing Xorg.conf file from default, whilst it seemed to work a few times, at the last login it failed again so I am back to a very frustrating problem - please don't make me buy a new monitor! - Thanks. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Display intermittently fails on login with Samsung 205BW https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/348914 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

happende here too: what helped me: try this PPA. it helped with my probs deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu karmic main then do a dist-upgrade notice: install ppa-purge at first! if you can't get to X again, you might have no internet connection (wifi) so the best would be to first dist- upgrade, then downgrade via ppa-purge, and then dist-upgrade again, then all packages are in /var/cache/apt/archives and can be installed with ppa-purge without a internet connection from their website: To revert to official packages, you can install the ppa-purge package and run "sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers". Note that you will want to reinstall linux-libc-dev afterwards manually if you had libdrm-dev installed on karmic and newer!!! website: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa posted this "solution" also on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/500056 one thing to add: I know my solution isn't first best, but perhaps it helps someone and the developers can figure out what exactly caused the problem -- On first login, but not second, switch user freezes X https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526181 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534047] [NEW] Flickering when wathcing videos with Nvidia drivers in Lucid
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I am testing Lucid alpha 3. Fully upgraded. Since I installed the Nvidia proprietary drivers I observe a slight flickering when watching videos. The flickering occurs at irregular intervals (from a few seconds to several minutes) and only last one or two seconds. It is not very disturbing, just a bit annoying. This happens regardless of the video format or the video player used. This happens both when watching videos online (all websites) as well as videos stored on the hard drive. The problem was not present with previous versions of Ubuntu. Apart from that, the Lucid alpha is running well. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533979] Re: pressing return/enter key kills xserver
Yes, after first gnome desktop login after system reboot, I can open any application with the mouse, and the application functions properly. For instance I can open gedit, and save, and save as by using the mouse. I can use any application with full functionality. The return/enter keyboard key kills xserver regardless of any applications running. If I boot the computer and press the return/enter keyboard key before opening any applications it kills the xserver, and sends me to gnome desktop login screen. After loging on for a second time there is no issue with pressing the return/enter keyboard key. apport is enabled and /var/crash does have a log file. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534012] Re: [karmic] Only low graphics mode on IBM X40 with Intel 855gm after external monitor crash using docking-station
Two crucial items of information about the bug: 1. Before the crash occurred, the X40 laptop was attached to the docking station, its monitor and the external monitor were both on, and the desktop spread across them both. The following then happened: - The laptop was removed from the docking station while still on. - The laptop screen corrected itself to display the full desktop that had previously been displayed across both screens - The laptop was replaced on the docking station. The external monitor was still powered up. - The system reported problem resolving screen resolution, and the rest is as described in my bug report. 2. Since this problem occured there has been another crippling problem with my graphics: I cannot get the laptop graphics to work at all if I attempt to switch it on when it is not attached to the docking station. If I attempt to switch it on without being attatched to the docking station, the system doesn't boot far enough to give me the 'graphics not working properly' error. If I attach the machine to the docking station and then switch it on, it will work but only in low-graphics mode. (P.S. I re-reported this bug using -p with the ubuntu-bug command and linked that report to this one. hopefully that's given all the info you need). -- [karmic] Only low graphics mode on IBM X40 with Intel 855gm after external monitor crash using docking-station https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/534012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534012] [NEW] [karmic] Only low graphics mode on IBM X40 with Intel 855gm after external monitor crash using docking-station
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg My graphics has gone kaput on Karmic. Machine: IBM X40 Graphics: Intel 82852/855GM Int. Graphics Device (rev 02) Docking station: X4 Ultrabase My machine has got stuck in low graphics mode after an error. Background - The graphics have been working fine on Karmic with the exception of some issues relating to an external monitor and X40 docking-station. But this combo has led to a more serious problem. Usually, redocking with external screen on would cause the system to tell me there was a problem resolving the screen resolution. If I tried to reset it with the GUI screen resolution tool, it would tell me that software acceleration would be required. I would decline to do this, because such requests were not normal, and reset the machine instead. The graphics would be back to normal on reboot. The error-causing event - Instead of ignoring the prompt for software acceleration, as I usually do, I accepted it. The system then gave the following error: "Your screen, graphics card and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure them yourself." Outcome - On reboot, the system says the graphics aren't working and I can only operate in low graphics mode. P.S. - - Bug reporting problem --- Now I have nearly completed my bug report, I see that it says under this window " "xorg (Ubuntu) guidelines: Please report bugs against xorg with this command: $ ubuntu-bug -p xorg For more tips on effective bug reporting against Ubuntu Xorg packages, please see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting and thanks ahead of time!" I used the following command: $ ubuntu-bug xorg I shall go back and use the -p to file a report. But seeing as I've got this far with the one I was already doing, I'm going to send it in case this is the most effective option. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in xorg-server. For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531082] Re: keyboard layout breaks down
H...it seems that the problem was related to num lock. :\ The thing is, the Eee doesn't have a NumLock LED indicator so I didn't even notice that it was only the right side of the keyboard that got messed up. However, although the bug no longer bugs me personally, it is still valid because I should not have seen the behaviour of the keyboard depend on pressing caps lock, resuming from suspend, switching to a different keyboard layout etc. (which is what threw me off in the first place) -- keyboard layout breaks down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531082 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to x11-xkb-utils in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533925] [NEW] Inverted colors after resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Hello, I am connecting a computer with DG45ID motherboard (4500HD) to a LCD TV (model Toshiba 32WL66) through the hdmi port. When I bought the MB I got it with bios version 0097, now it is upgraded to the latest bios 0127. With the old bios and Ubuntu Lucid, I got inverted colors (black becomes green) on every boot when the bootsplash shows up. Now after bios upgrade the boot is good- I see regular colors, and everything seems ok, but after resume from suspend I still get the inverted colors. Another way to get inverted colors is to turn on the TV after I boot the computer, but this is less critical to me. I'm not sure if it's a firmware bug or a driver bug. I hope that from here it will get to the right hands. Thanks, Nir.
