[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 535653] Re: System freeze during X start-up and while X is running, but only on battery.
Just got my X100e in the mail. Installed alpha3 from CD, this happens to me. Did full package upgrade as of 2010-03-12, it still happens. As long as AC power is plugged in and the laptop is actively used, it's fine. Removing AC power causes a hard lock. Not touching the machine for several minutes causes a hard lock (I didn't time it, but probably whatever the default screen power save timeout is). The only solution is a cold reset. -- System freeze during X start-up and while X is running, but only on battery. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/535653 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537745] [NEW] nouveau can't set screen resolution lucid 2.6.32-16
You have been subscribed to a public bug: System: dell XPS-630i Intel Q9550 (amd_64) 8gb ram NVIDIA 9800 GT (x2) video (have tested also with slave card removed) Lucid 10.04 with all current updates, kernel 2.6.32-16 (current update) I have tried the nouveau video driver, both from the ubuntu repository, and from the "x edgers" repository - same problem. The text screen properly determines the screen resolution (1680x1050), but x comes up in 640x480, Trying to change the resolution with XRANDR or kde systemsettings>display shows there are only two resolutions available: 640x480, and 700-something. Changing between the two does work. XRANDR does not show any of the other reoltuions of which this monitor is capable. If I boot with the 'nomodeset' option, I get the vesa driver which does come up in 1680x1050. I do have the nouveau driver enabled in xorg.conf. It appears that nouveau is not detecting the hardware capabilities correctly. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nouveau can't set screen resolution lucid 2.6.32-16 https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/537745 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

TM Hart, I quite agree. I am sure that this bug turned away many new linux users who had certain models of Intel video cards. Unfortunately, there is not much that can be done with respect to the downloadable ISO (which is why it is so important to test the ISOs extensively before the final release). In the meantime, if you could contribute information at this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Lucidi945Freezes that would be greatly appreciated. -- Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461163] Re: Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes.
To: WeatherGod: I wonder if there may be an error in counting people affected by bug 461163 As test, I booted my computer from the cd drive and ran the Ubuntu 9.10 trial version from the install cd-rom. The system locked up in the same time frame as when I loaded 9.10 on my hard disk in place of version 9.04. Wonder if a number of people may download the ISO file, write it to a cd-rom, run the trial version and crash. These people are unlikely to file a bug report. At any rate, if you want to run tests of computer freezes, you may be able to get info from cd-rom booting instead of loading the entire operating system and looking for crashes I ran the "lshw" command and obtained the following profile of my hardware: compaq description: Desktop Computer product: GN632AV-ABA a6200t vendor: HP-Pavilion version: Chassis Version width: 32 bits capabilities: smbios-2.4 dmi-2.4 smp-1.4 smp configuration: boot=normal chassis=desktop cpus=1 uuid=4C991CD9 -7A9E-DC11-BCD5-AAA3FE50BD80 *-core description: Motherboard product: Lancaster8 vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. physical id: 0 version: 1.04 serial: X312345678 slot: To Be Filled By O.E.M. *-firmware description: BIOS vendor: American Megatrends Inc. physical id: 0 version: 5.16 (10/01/2007) size: 64KiB capacity: 448KiB capabilities: isa pci pnp upgrade shadowing escd cdboot bootselect socketedrom edd int13floppy1200 int13floppy720 int13floppy2880 int5printscreen int9keyboard int14serial int17printer int10video acpi usb ls120boot zipboot biosbootspecification *-cpu description: CPU product: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 420 @ 1.60GHz vendor: Intel Corp. physical id: 4 bus info: c...@0 version: 6.6.1 serial: 0001-0661---- slot: CPU 1 size: 1600MHz capacity: 1600MHz width: 64 bits clock: 200MHz capabilities: boot fpu fpu_exception wp vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss tm pbe nx x86-64 constant_tsc up arch_perfmon pebs bts pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr pdcm lahf_lm *-cache:0 description: L1 cache physical id: 5 slot: L1-Cache size: 32KiB capacity: 32KiB capabilities: internal write-back data *-cache:1 description: L2 cache physical id: 6 slot: L2-Cache size: 512KiB capacity: 512KiB capabilities: internal write-back unified *-memory description: System Memory physical id: 1e slot: System board or motherboard size: 1GiB *-bank:0 description: DIMM Synchronous 667 MHz (1.5 ns) product: HYMP564U64CP8-Y5 vendor: AD00 physical id: 0 serial: SerNum0 slot: DIMM0 size: 512MiB width: 64 bits clock: 667MHz (1.5ns) *-bank:1 description: DIMM Synchronous 667 MHz (1.5 ns) product: HYMP564U64CP8-Y5 vendor: AD00 physical id: 1 serial: SerNum2 slot: DIMM2 size: 512MiB width: 64 bits clock: 667MHz (1.5ns) *-pci description: Host bridge product: 82945G/GZ/P/PL Memory Controller Hub vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 100 bus info: p...@:00:00.0 version: 02 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz configuration: driver=agpgart-intel module=intel_agp *-display UNCLAIMED description: VGA compatible controller product: 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: p...@:00:02.0 version: 02 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: msi pm bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=0 *-multimedia description: Audio device product: 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 1b bus info: p...@:00:1b.0 version: 01 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=HDA Intel latency=0 module=snd_hda_intel *-pci:0 description: PCI bridge product: 82801G (ICH7 Fa

** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg Ubuntu Lucid, amd64 Attempted with multiple Xorg/Nouveau versions and with different kernel flavors (generic, preempt, -16). - Whenever something graphically intensive happens (except, apparently, video), a gpu lockup occurs, freezing X but allowing use of SysRq commands. Only occurs with an NV18 card; NV17 works fine, for example. + Whenever something graphically intensive happens (except, apparently, video) like compositing, a gpu lockup occurs, freezing X and even terminal switching but allowing use of SysRq commands. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 506069] Re: X server crashes with "Saw signal 11. Server aborting"
Same here on two different setups with different nvidia cards. On one machine I had a full crash after upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10. A fresh setup then worked, but then required again editing xorg.conf. My screen resolution is 1600x1200. After the fresh setup it got totally screwed again when I tried to change the screen resolution in the startup-manager from 640x480 to 800x600 during boot. The problem is grub video mode related. Solution: On one machine I had the old grub with menu.lst control. Removing every vga=xxx (xxx=video mode) in /boot/grub/menu.lst solved the problem here. In the setup with the new grub I changed the vga modes by editing /boot/grub/grub.cfg and setting gfxmode back to gfxmode=640x480 Here I also removed all other vga=xxx video mode references. There is also another setting file intended for editing grub, but I don't remember the file name anymore. Just removing the video mode references should be sufficient for a quick fix. A final word to the developers ;-) Ubuntu has given me video problems on every single upgrade up to now. The reason was always the inability to set the proper video mode (1600x1200). I strongly suggest an installation menue with *all* possible screen resolutions, so that the xserver can be initialized with the proper resolution right from the start. This would solve the most serious installation problem that many people have had. -- X server crashes with "Saw signal 11. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537741] [NEW] NV18 GPU lockup with Nouveau
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Ubuntu Lucid, amd64 Attempted with multiple Xorg/Nouveau versions and with different kernel flavors (generic, preempt, -16). Whenever something graphically intensive happens (except, apparently, video), a gpu lockup occurs, freezing X but allowing use of SysRq commands. Only occurs with an NV18 card; NV17 works fine, for example. Note: bug was filed while using xorg-edgers version; however, it also applies to normal Lucid (pre-)release packages. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524781] Re: lucid a2: crash some time between closing lid and opening lid on lenovo laptop
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel After opening the laptop the screen didn't light up. I tried pressing keys and trying to move the cursor but I had to switch to a terminal with [ctrl][alt][f1] and then back to X with [alt][f7] to get it working again. at which point it prompted for my password to unlock. saw a crash report about intel gpu which should be what this bug report contains. Update: Alternatively I could just leave the computer for a while after reopening the lid, after 30-90seconds of a completely black screen X restarts. It might have done this when I tried switching with [alt][f1]etc and didn't notice and just assumed it had logged me out. It was as if the computer had gone in to hibernation or suspend at some point between closing the lid and opening the lid even though I've set Ubuntu to only blank the screen when the lid is closed on AC power. Update: Seems to be working OK now. Possibly due to a recent package upgrade, will update if it happens again. Update: It happened again. It's annoying because any programs I had open when I was logged in get terminated when x crashes/restarts/logs me out. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532756] Re: I could not use driver
I'm not entirely sure at this point what problem you are experiencing. I think your problem is that video playback is broken, is this correct? Could you please remove the xorg crack pushers packages by installing the “ppa-purge” package and running “sudo ppa-purge ppa:xorg-edgers” and reboot? If the problem persists, please run “apport-collect 532756” after trying to play video. -- I could not use driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532756 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I don't think it will make a difference, but if you'd like to err on the safe side, then use xorg-edgers. Most of the code involved is in the kernel anyway, and these newer kernels have some debugging capabilities that the previous ones didn't have. -- [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393031] Re: [i855] Resolution change breaks graphics in Intel 855GM
Hi Benedikt, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid. If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 393031 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.] ** Tags added: needs-kernel-logs ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: kj-triage ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- [i855] Resolution change breaks graphics in Intel 855GM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/393031 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I was used to have a bug were i would have to go through gdm twice because the first time gdm hangs but with this new brew it takes twice to three times to get to my session. I have updated the gfx through jockey-gtk to nvidia-current but still the same issue. i would love to have the dkms stuff going on with my nvidia 9200M G ( reported by nvidia-settings as GeForce 9200M G) I shall give you a description of the hardware: MSI VR705 lspci output: 00:00.0 Host bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Host Bridge (rev b1) 00:00.1 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Memory Controller (rev b1) 00:03.0 ISA bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP79 LPC Bridge (rev b2) 00:03.1 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Memory Controller (rev b1) 00:03.2 SMBus: nVidia Corporation MCP79 SMBus (rev b1) 00:03.3 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Memory Controller (rev b1) 00:03.4 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation Device 0a98 (rev b1) 00:03.5 Co-processor: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Co-processor (rev b1) 00:04.0 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation MCP79 OHCI USB 1.1 Controller (rev b1) 00:04.1 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation MCP79 EHCI USB 2.0 Controller (rev b1) 00:08.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP79 High Definition Audio (rev b1) 00:09.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Bridge (rev b1) 00:0b.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP79 SATA Controller (rev b1) 00:10.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge (rev b1) 00:15.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge (rev b1) 00:16.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge (rev b1) 00:17.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge (rev b1) 00:18.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge (rev b1) 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C79 [GeForce 9200M G] (rev b1) 06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477256] Re: [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM)
Irihapeti, did you see that Chris Wilson requested some more information upstream? You can use the latest kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com /~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/ . I have updated the information on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze to include the new way of getting the dumps. The only esstential difference is that with new kernels we only need one of the files in /sys/debug/dri/0/, namely i915_error_state. It is also nice to have a dmesg and Xorg.0.log from the same time for completeness.

I'm using modeset and X (without graphical effects) and the machine is running since morning and didn't freeze at all. @Brian Rogers Thank you for your amazing work and effort in solving this issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537626] [NEW] Display is corrupted while changing display resolution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I was testing different display resolutions using System->Preferences->Monitors and always choosing "Return to previous configuration". [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486056] Re: [i945gme] Setting up dual-head of exactly 2048 pixels wide ends up with a black screen. Setting it up with more than 2048 pixels crashes X
I'm effected by this bug either. Would like to see this fixed as I have had this for a few months now. I did see some improvements after reinstalling Ubuntu 9.10, but it all comes down on the same crash as described here. I'm forced to use lower resolution on one of the screens, which bugs me a lot. I can confirm that this bug does not affect me when Compiz is turned off, or when the total width is less then 2048. Never tried a high height since I do not have such high monitors :) -- [i945gme] Setting up dual-head of exactly 2048 pixels wide ends up with a black screen.
