[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 539262] [NEW] Radeon Mobility M6 LY graphics issue (lucid)

2010-03-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Console and Xwindows screen corruption on lucid live cd and on installed
copy

If I dont do nomodeset in grub, the screen is blurry because the letters
shaking around. Screen was
a bit garbled on karmic (the notification messages were all corrupted) but on
lucid, the system is unusable
due to flickering. Also, X will not even start. You get to the login screen and
thats as far as it gets.

successful suspend/resume cycles, so it does seem to fix the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 517577] Re: [lucid] KMS screen corruption fb and X on Radeon Mobility 7500

2010-03-15 Thread Peng
On my IBM x31 notebook there is no corruption but window manager crashes
constantly and windows lose decoration.
I am running lucid with 2.6.32-16 kernel and ambient theme enabled. The DRM ppa
dosen't fix it.
The video processor is Radeon Mobility M6 LY.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537137] Re: No non-destructive way for a normal user to escape frozen full-screen apps

2010-03-15 Thread Supernatendo
I too have ran into fullscreen applications where it would be convenient
if the ctrl+return alt+tab or ctr+shift+esc or ctr+alt+backspace either
(respectively) minimized, tabbed to the desktop or other window, killed
the current fullscreen app, or brought up a task manager GUI to easily
kill misbehaving apps that are taking up the full screen and grabbing
the keymaps...

This mainly happened after an update broke my alsa + pulseaudio to where
I had to follow these instructions
http://swiss.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1395089 to get it fixed

But now, every time I load an application the volume is set too low to
hear and I need to re-adjust it. This is when I noticed that there is
currently no way to exit some fullscreen games without closing the
program. At least a few (such as World of Goo) allowed me to alt+return
to window the application, but unfortunately some FOSS developers are
not as thoughtful as 2Dboy apparently...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538002] Re: low power options are ignored in 10.04

2010-03-15 Thread Robert Hooker
Those options do not work when KMS is in use, they need to be done
directly in the kernel with radeon module options. If you want to
continue using them in xorg.conf, you can get the old functionality by
booting with radeon.modeset=0 added to your kernel command line and then
they will work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 316514] Re: MASTER: Multiple video cards not supported

2010-03-15 Thread djtoast
I also tried very hard to get this type of setup working without much
sucess

2x nvidia cards. (Different versions ex.. 1 is 265gtx and the other cheap
8600 i beleive)
3 monitors.

at best I could get 2 monitors on same car using xinerama and 1 stand
alone x.

I baught my new computer to do 3 monitors. unfortunately this means
that i had to do the dreadfull thing of using windows as my operating
system :(

Hope this gets better support in the future,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533650] Re: netbook-launcher crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_clutter_texture_set_from_pixbuf()

2010-03-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, -nvidia might be involved in some way, but there's not evidence of
this from the backtrace... looks like a crash in libclutter or
somewhere in libgobject. I'll bump it over to the netbook-launcher
package for more review.

If it does belong to -nvidia, please clarify when you refile it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 423711] Re: freeze with purple and green ubuntu logos with fglrx driver catalyst 9.8

2010-03-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
Sorry you had trouble getting the fixed fglrx installed on Jaunty. As a
rule, proprietary driver updates are not permitted in the SRU process
because SRUs must adhere to a strict policy including a careful code
review, and since fglrx is closed source there is no chance of that,
thus there is no need for keeping bug reports open once they're fixed in
the development release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415827] Re: glxinfo crashed with SIGSEGV in calloc()

2010-03-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Artur, can you retest this on Lucid, where we have a newer nvidia
driver?

I'm not sure exactly why this crashed but sometimes glxinfo can crash if
the GLX is not installed right. We've reimplemented how this gets
installed in Lucid so it'll avoid errors such as this, and so I'm
expecting this issue will be gone on Lucid.

is no stacktrace for that portion of the crash. I'm thinking there is
nothing we can do to resolve this bug at the distro level since the code
is closed source.

I'll leave the nvidia task here, but I think if you feel this is an
important issue, then probably it should be worked around in compiz.

The only other thing I'd suggest is to try purging and reinstalling
nvidia, just in case there were any GL bits from some other driver like
-nouveau.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522328] Re: [Test xpr-008] Lucid upgrade broke when upgrading from manually installed nvidia proprietary drivers

2010-03-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
Federico, thanks it sounds like is improved behavior, however still not
the specified behavior in the test case, so we should leave this bug
report open.

That said, perhaps having the upgrader replace nvidia with -nouveau
would be acceptable, in which case the test case should be updated.
Refusing to do the upgrade if nvidia has been manually installed is
another option I guess. The main thing is we don't want to leave the
user's system broken if they've manually installed nvidia, because
unfortunately this is not a rare use case.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532195] Re: Xorg freeze after hibernate on a laptop

2010-03-15 Thread Robert Hooker
** Description changed:

  Lucid 10.04 updated today.

  Sequence:
  - boot the the systems, login
  - do not start any applications
  - select hibernate
  - The system hibernates, needs aout 40 secs
  - Press power button to start agin
  - some horizontal line, then the screen goes blank
  - systems frozen, screen blank, Keys like Alt-F1 to Alt-f12 have no reaction
  - Ctrl-alt-delete cause a reboot
  - Systems boots normally

  Notes:
  - see also #488720 "Suspend/resume with nvidia driver fails", is probably
related, although I'm taking specifcally about hibernate as opposed to suspend.
  - I've not convinced its nvidia specific..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532603] Re: login sequence aborts and restarts occasionally

2010-03-15 Thread Robert Hooker
** Description changed:

Hello! I just updated to Lucid, and I've been noticing a bug.

I have my computer set-up to login automatically. This seems to work:
the login process works correctly, I can start some applications. The
problem is that _sometimes_ (I'm 95% sure it doesn't happen every time)
the process stops somewhere and I'm returned to GDM. I can then proceed
to login manually, and the second time it seems to work.

I've only noticed this happening when I was in a hurry, and I was
starting a few programs as soon as the panel became available. However,
since I was always in a hurry when this happened, I can't remember
exactly everything I did. I'm not sure if timing is involved, or if this
a manifestation of bug #522692 or bug #516412.

Today I started the computer, and it started an automatic log-in. I
started a couple of apps: a script that mounts some SSHFS shares,
Amarok, and Firefox, and I _think_ I started a terminal, but I don't
remember if I had time to type anything in it. Then I was dumped to
GDM's login screen. I logged in, I ran "geany ~/.xsession-errors*", then
opened FF and this bug report.

I noticed the following in .xsession-errors.old (which I assume
  corresponds to the crashed session):

The line starting with “(gnome-terminal:1803)” is always there, even in
“normal” sessions (some other bug somewhere), everything else I assume
belongs to the crash. It's strange that Amarok _does_ work in this
session, although I don't think I started it again. The lines from it
appeared after I started Geany (in the .xs-e.old file); perhaps start-up
delay caused it to connect to the new session. No idea if it's relevant
to this bug, I just mentioned it in case it's helpful.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 539351] [NEW] [amd64][nv8600gt] karmic/lucid nvidia proprietary cause system crash when xserver-xorg starts

2010-03-15 Thread willem.dreyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-185

1. install any amd64 ubuntu-based distro 9.10/10.04.
2. install nvidia drivers via apt/jockey/envyng/nvidia.com's installer/s (all
have the same outcome).
3. reboot or startx, soon after system crashes completely.

Tried every how-to I could find the past 3 days. Xorg.conf settings till
I turned blue in my face. Lots of kernels and some different drivers
from 173 to 195. Same hardware running i386 kernels works 100%. Not easy
for me to debug so if there's some tips of how I can retrieve info
please! At the moment I use another computer to ssh into this one with
the problem so that I can get feedback via pts just before the system
halts.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534754] Re: (Needs 195.36.15) X crashes during suspend/resume

2010-03-15 Thread Robert Hooker
** Summary changed:

- X crashes during suspend/resume
+ (Needs 195.36.15) X crashes during suspend/resume

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gdm

In Ubuntu 10.04, X crashes consistently on the suspend/resume cycle.

The symptoms are one of the following:

  * X crashes on standby: the gdm-greeter screen appears complete with
login prompt just before standby. The system either enters standby or
doesn't; I can log in to X again.

  * X crashes on standby: the gdm-greeter screen appears but without login
prompt. The system either enters standby or doesn't; I can't login
because there is no login prompt and have to reboot the PC.

  * X crashes on resume: the PC appears to enter stand-by successfully but
the gdm-greeter screen is present on resume. This may be the same as the
first case except that the PC enters standby earlier, ie before the gdm-
  greeter screen can appear.

The attached /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows a segmentation fault in X during
  standby.

I have tried different combinations of the 2.6.33 and 2.6.32 (stock
Ubuntu) kernels and the nvidia 195.30 (installed via nvidia installer)
and 195.36.08 (installed with jockey) drivers and they all exhibit the
  same problem.

The one time that I can recall a successful standby/resume cycle (ie
where it goes back to the screensaver password prompt) is immediately
after I added the nomodeset command to the kernel boot options. However,
it has not worked successfully since.

2010-03-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
I see that nvidia-graphics-drivers already has a depends on xserver-

Otherwise, I see no problem including that as a depends, but I'm going

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510004] Re: [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM

2010-03-15 Thread Alex Murray
Have noticed that now I don't get corruption after resuming (after a fix
to pm-utils I think) but instead X crashes upon resuming, leaving me
staring at the gdm login screen.

Just noticed Nvidia just released an updated driver: 195.36.15 which may
fix this second issue, from
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=148947

 - Fixed a bug that caused the X server to crash when rendering occurred while
the X server was not on the active VT.
 - Fixed a regression that caused the driver to fail to properly adjust the GPU
fan speed on some GPUs.
 - Fixed a bug that prevented performance level transitions on recent GPUs with
SDDR3 and GDDR5 memory.

So if anyone can package it up in a PPA it would be great to test and
see if it resolves this - I am hoping the crash is a result of the first
listed change and hence is now fixed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537801] Re: Touchscreen doesn't work after karmic->lucid upgrade

2010-03-15 Thread Robert Hooker
Looked into it a bit more.. It looks like the udev is tagging it as
ID_INPUT_TABLET=1 because its a resistive touchscreen not a capacitive
one with BTN_TOUCH, and our /lib/udev/rules.d/65-xorg-evdev.rules is
missing a catchall for tablet devices -

ENV{ID_INPUT_TABLET}=="?*", ENV{x11_driver}="evdev"

currently only the wacom udev rule is matching ID_INPUT_TABLET and its
universally loading wacom which should be tightened down a bit to only
load with a wacom vendor ID (serial tablets from other vendors are
handled before the catchall) to accompany this change.

Right. That turns off all hardware acceleration, which will obviously
make things slow. Ideally this bug will get fixed, and you'll be able
to have both acceleration and a non-corrupted display.

If it doesn't get fixed in time for Lucid, though, we can fall back to
disabling acceleration and you (and people with the same graphics card
as you) can at least boot to a non-corrupted desktop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533342] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup 75a8f615 (ESR: 0x00000001)

2010-03-15 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
It turns out that on 965GM the GPU gets reset before the dump of the
error is recorded, so the information that is attached does not useful.
By using the newest drm-intel-next kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/ the error information should be
recorded in i915_error_state and automatically reported. Using the
kernel option drm.debug=0x02 will give even more useful information in
the output of dmesg.

I'm closing this bug report, since it does not contain the information
we need and it's easy to file a new one with the drm-intel-next kernel.

Thanks for the answer !!

I have some few questions...

Is it also normal that glxinfo returns "OpenGL renderer string: Software

And is it normal that compiz effects cannot be activated from

Are they both needing 3D acceleration, 2D is not sufficient for them ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 530026] Re: Computer set to "Blank Screen on lid close" - causes Xorg/Intel crash

2010-03-15 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
This bug was reported from an early version of the automatic bug
reporting script that failed to include the necessary information. I'm
marking it as invalid, and you may file a new one if you want. However,
based on the limited information available, it seems to be a duplicate
of bug 537874.

It seems that the automatic bug reporting was a bit late and captured a
healthy state of the GPU after it had been reset. There are traces of
the problem in i915_error_state, and from that it seems to be the same
problem as bug 537874 (IPEHR: 0x01800020 is the last instruction and it
was performed in a batch buffer at memory address ACTHD: 0x06be9014).
I'm marking this one as a duplicate of that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 539196] [NEW] nvidia-settings X display configuration window doesn't work on nvidia-173 and nvidia-96

2010-03-15 Thread Robert Hooker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

nvidia-settings from newer upstream driver releases are not fully
backwards compatable with older drivers. Attempting to view the X
Display Configuration panel in nvidia-settings from 195 for instance
under the 173 or 96 series drivers gives an error like so:

Unable to load X Server Display Configuration page:
Failed to query NoScanout for screen 0.

This is due to the property not existing on the older drivers. Perhaps
it would be a good idea to package seperate nvidia-settings-VERSION
packages to get around it? Upstream blob drivers package their own
nvidia-settings tailored to that driver release and they work properly.

** Affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Assignee: Alberto Milone (albertomilone)
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537137] Re: No non-destructive way for a normal user to escape frozen full-screen apps

2010-03-15 Thread Gabriel M.
Interesting. From his launchpad wiki page, one of Mr. Harrington's job
achievements for past Ubuntu versions was "New bugs in xorg, xorg-server,
-intel, -ati, and -nv were reduced to 0".
I'm not sure the right way of reducing bugs is to randomly re-assign them to
other, vaguely related packages. Without any justification. Since I took the
time of writing this detailed report with hardware info, the least you could do
would be to read it and give a short answer.
