[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546678] [NEW] [lucid] nouveau driver fails to switch virtual terminal

2010-03-24 Thread David Coles
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

In Lucid when running the nouveau driver I can't switch to a console
virtual terminal. When I attempt do so, the mouse pointer vanishes and
the display freezes on the current X content. Switching back to the X VT
returns the mouse and resumes normal operation of X.

I've also occasionally noticed having to switch VTs on resume to
"unfreeze" the display after resuming for suspend or failing to see the
GDM window on boot (after Plymouth). Possibly related/same issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494699] Re: Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7)

2010-03-24 Thread Quantux
Steps listed in post 29 worked after installing fglrx package via
synaptic. Watching it install, the module build/load looked like it
worked fine, maybe the package is just missing the aticonfig part thats
neccessary even with the installer from ati.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 545019] Re: vinagre and x11vnc -ncache 10 crash X

2010-03-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Salva,

A couple things. First, for backtraces, gotta get a complete backtrace
- see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for guidance.

Second, I see you have virtualbox installed. That puts some different
drivers on your system which can cause conflicts. Please uninstall that
(and purge it if necessary), and see if you can reproduce the crash
then. If you can, then get a full backtrace as above.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Incomplete

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544836] Re: Slow boot performance

2010-03-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Sorry, you need to do a bit more investigation before filing this bug to
pinpoint what caused it. Note that gdm is run under X, so if the issue
is between when you enter your password and when the desktop is up...
well it's not X. Make a bootchart and examine it, and then make your
guess about what is causing the slowness. Also try disabling things
like compiz.

2010-03-24 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
You added the ppa from https://edge.launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa and
that was your Xorg.0.log? That log isn't using the updated packages from the
xorg-edgers PPA - the line
(II) [drm] nouveau interface version: 0.0.15
indicates that it's using the main archive's version of the packages.

What did you do to enable the xorg-edgers PPA?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 543220] Re: TV display cycles out of sync - C51PV [GeForce 6150]

2010-03-24 Thread jrhenkelmann
One interesting thing I can add:
I'm running the latest Lucid Lynx with all updates and with a geforce2pro
graphics card. This system serves as a mediacenter connected via cinch to a
classic television. Since the system went to standby during the last
(remote)update something got corrupted and after playing for 30min I decided to
reinstall, since it seemed faster...
with the daily iso of today (3/25/2010) I reinstalled and now also got
flickering on startup and then a message that only low graphics mode is
possible which I could only see using nvtv however this is only the case,
when ONLY the TV is attached via cinch. If I keep a monitor connected and use
nvtv for tv-output I don't get any flickering on the tv, instead the nice
animated plymouth bootup on the monitor and afterwards nvtv starts the tv-mode
without errors.

however before it was possible to just have the TV attached and not
getting any error messages... so I assume it must have to do with the
nouveau driver, that has to report some information about the connected
monitor, and when only a tv via cinch is connected, there is no
information just a wild guess here but maybe it helps

Hm. From your logs & description I think there are two bugs that you're
hitting here: bug #533135 about plymouth freezing on nouveau with
multiple displays and also bug #518387 where vga16fb claims the first
framebuffer and causes no end of trouble.

Could you please subscribe to both those bugs, and when they're resolved
check this again?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518387] Re: [gm45] black screen on bootup with kernel 2.6.32-12

2010-03-24 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
It seems that sometimes, particularly with multi-gpu systems, vga16fb
claims fb0 ahead of a kernel modesetting driver. This results in a
blank display.

Note that even when a kernel modesetting driver is loading first and
claiming fb0 there are side-effects to having vga16fb loaded and
providing fb1 - bug #527369 is an example. I'm leaving this as a
separate bug as it's got very different symptoms and may not necessarily
be fixed by the same process.

@vladilinsky: It would be useful if you could provide dmesg logs from a
failed boot just to check that we're on the right track

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 504577] Re: Boot freeze with GeForce 6200

2010-03-24 Thread Mathieu
Sorry for the delay.
I tried 10.04 Alpha3 live CD a few weeks ago but it would not boot.
Yesterday I tried with the Beta1 live CD and it did boot and the dual-screen
was working well!

So I guess this bug can be closed.

It is possible that there has been a fix for this uptsream, but I'd like
to check that it could work before providing a test-kernel. Could you
please collect dmesg again from a boot where you've added
“drm.debug=0x04” to the kernel boot parameters?

It seems that XAA can no longer be enabled in Lucid, and the problem is
still reproducible: Open Gnome-Terminal, run "top", and then keep moving

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546578] [NEW] [RS400] black screen after a few user switches

2010-03-24 Thread Guillaume Giroux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Up-to-date Lucid with radeon driver. After switching user a few times
(usually between 3 and 5 times), the screen goes black with only the
mouse cursor visible. Restarting gdm fixes the issue, and nothing odd
appears in XOrg.0.log when the black screen occurs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 316514] Re: MASTER: Multiple video cards not supported

2010-03-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
A patch to libpciaccess on bug
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18160 upstream exists but
doesn't solve the problem, just one small aspect of it. So not worth
backporting it for lucid. Maybe lucid+1. The VGA arbiter work airlied
is doing is needed on top of that.

Fwiw, if you're using two nvidia cards, then the -nvidia binary driver
should support doing xinerama still.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multi fingers touch doesn't be correctly recognized

2010-03-24 Thread Neatchee
@Jim That's actually an unrelated bug. That bug refers to placing two
fingers on the touchpad, lifting one, and having the cursor jump from
the location of the first touch to the location of the remaining finger,
without passing the points in between. This is more of an "incorrect
behavior" than a bug, so to speak. This is not related to the "spazz"
behavior that users are reporting here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 134401] Re: [needs-packaging] add support for fujitsu tablet input device

2010-03-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Going forward, we're focusing our tablet support to -wacom and -evdev.
Upstream's intention is that these should cover all tablets including
this one, so we do not need a profusion of different X drivers for
specific brands of devices. As you guys have noticed with fujitouch,
these drivers are not well maintained upstream at all. Indeed, even
-evtouch is not actively maintained anymore.

So, I would amend my previous advice by saying instead you guys should
test this hardware with -evdev or -wacom, and file bug reports against
them for any deficiencies found.

Alternatively, you can see if Debian would be willing to maintain the
driver. If so, we will pull it in normally (but too late for Lucid).
But I suspect they'll also be of the mind that support for this hardware
should be added to / improved in -evdev or -wacom.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544869] Re: Suspend fails to resume on Dell 8600 / ATI video

2010-03-24 Thread Martin Spacek
I'm having the same problem on my Thinkpad T41 with Radeon Mobility 9000
(RV250) GPU. This is a problem that showed up in lucid, but wasn't
present in karmic. Resume seems to work, backlight turns on right away
(I can even control the backlight level), but I either get:

1) A black screen
2) A screen that starts out mostly dark, but then a sort of marbled pattern
emerges on screen that gets progressively brighter over a minute or two, until
the whole screen is basically white. Very strange.

There's no mouse cursor visible. From the fan and the heat, I think the
CPU is at 100%. I can't switch to another TTY using ctrl-alt-F1 or any
other F key. I have to do a hard shutdown. Once or twice I managed to
shut down normally using dead reckoning with the mouse, or by simply
pressing the power button for a short while (this presumably brought up
the shut down dialog box), and then hitting enter.

Sometimes when I reboot after a hard shutdown, the network manager
starts up with networking disabled for some reason, and I have to
manually re-enable it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366651] Re: [RV530] Screen "static noise" using high resolutions

2010-03-24 Thread Maze
I seem to be getting this in Lucid beta 1 64 bit version. (only tried on
live disk version so far)

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3400
Series

Computer is a Dell Studio 15.
Workaround mentioned before doesn't work... Xrandr complains about DVI-0 not
existing.

Sorry, not a duplicate but closely related. I think 308191 is what is
making the problem apparent. Upstream appears to have recognized a
similar problem. Some patches are available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546522] [NEW] "Eliminate dead keys" appears incorrectly encoded in danish

2010-03-24 Thread AJenbo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

During install of 10.04, set to Danish, "Eliminate dead keys" is
translated to "Sl? d?de taster fra" instead of "Slå døde taster fra",
but looking at the translation for xkeyboard-config it appears to be
translated correctly. Is the string taken from some where else?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multi fingers touch doesn't be correctly recognized

2010-03-24 Thread Jim Rorie
I think this is related to the upstream bug:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21614

It is for a single touch pad, but I'm thinking that our multi-touches
are being reported as singles, so it's the same problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546487] Re: On Lucid, xserver-xorg-input-evtouch does not install ev_calibrate

This seems to make ev_calibrate start and /usr/lib/xf86-input-

But what happened to /etc/init.d/xserver-xorg-input-evtouch ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546516] [NEW] Lucid Beta crashed to login screen while accessing AOL account

2010-03-24 Thread jerrylamos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

.xsession-errors and Xorg.0.log.old both indicate xorg type problems. I
was logging in to AOL. There does not appear to be a firefox crash
associated.

This is Thinkpad T40 ati 7500 on Lucid Beta 1 updated as of 24 March.
I've gotten several failures today after that; yesterday no failures.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546503] [NEW] HP touchpad-disable switch damages mouse and focus capability

2010-03-24 Thread Erik Stambaugh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

There's a chance this is more of a kernel bug than an xorg bug. I'm not
sure.

My HP Pavilion dv5t has a touchpad-disable button that's sometimes
necessary when typing at a long stretch and you don't want to
accidentally center-click in the window.

I disabled the touchpad and was not able to make it come back. The
little light goes from orange to white, which is an indication that the
hardware thinks it's re-enabled.

The problem can manifest in a few different ways.

Sometimes the cursor moves but cannot click or focus anything.
Sometimes the cursor simply will no longer react.
Sometimes restarting GDM does not solve the problem.

This last time, I even fully rebooted and was unable to get the mouse
back. I was lucky that a little fiddling with the disable switch and
restarting GDM again made it come back.

I'm inclined to think this kernel output is involved:

Mar 24 15:50:06 localhost kernel: [ 786.963086] psmouse.c: TouchPad at
isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 4 bytes away.
Mar 24 15:50:06 localhost kernel: [ 787.476687] psmouse.c: resync failed,
issuing reconnect request

...but it looks like it's happened in my logs at times when this effect
was not seen. I believe the rest of my dmesg output is attached, so
maybe there's something else in there that's enlightening.

Let me know if you need any more info from me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 545015] Re: X takes ~70% of CPU when Compiz is activated

2010-03-24 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
>From the logs you've attached it's clear that your system is in a bit of
a bad state - you've got the nvidia binary driver's libGL installed, but
you don't seem to have the rest of the binary drivers installed.

I'd suggest going to jockey-kde and disabling the nvidia drivers,
rebooting, then enabling the nvidia-drivers again. That will hopefully
get you back into a sane state.

If it doesn't please reopen this bug.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546160] [NEW] Cannot boot without unplugging external monitor

2010-03-24 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 533135 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533135

 duplicate 533135

This appears to be a plymouth bug. I'm marking this bug as a duplicate
of the original plymouth bug.

Another work around, other than to boot with only one monitor plugged
in, is to use SysRq+Alt+K to kill everything when it's hung at the end.
GDM should then come up correctly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546487] [NEW] On Lucid, xserver-xorg-input-evtouch does not install ev_calibrate

2010-03-24 Thread hackeron
Public bug reported:

r...@intercom1:~# ev_calibrate
The program 'ev_calibrate' is currently not installed. You can install it by
typing:
apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-evtouch
r...@intercom1:~# apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-evtouch
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
xserver-xorg-input-evtouch is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

So it's impossible to tell evtouch to use a calibration config which
makes the touchscreen pointless :(

** Affects: xf86-input-evtouch (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 545920] Re: X.org can't start with nouveau in normal ([drm] failed to open device, No devices detected.) and failsafe (FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument) mode

2010-03-24 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
>From your logs, it's clear that you've got some packages from xorg-
edgers hanging around. Specifically libdrm2
2.4.19+git20100307.04fd3872-0ubuntu0sarvatt. You can't mix-and-match
packages from the main archives & xorg-edgers - as you have found,
nouveau will break.

You should try installing ppa-purge from the xorg-edgers and running
“ppa-purge xorg-edgers”.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Invalid
