[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528026] Re: Often freezes before GDM login screen appears
Hrm. Intel drm is annoyingly terse during startup. I'll need to look at the various drm.debug options in order to find out how to make it say what it thinks it's doing. Bug #535640 has been fixed, however. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490946] Re: [i945gme] Xorg hardware-specific on Delll Mini 9 Inspiron 910 : playback choppy with H264
Isn't the problem here simply that the Atom N270 CPU in these netbooks is insufficiently powerful to decode a 1280x720 h264 video stream in realtime? There isn't any GPU video decoding acceleration available at this point, and decoding that clip takes a full core of my (substantially more powerful) Core 2 processor. You can take video display entirely out of the equation by trying the pipeline: “gst-launch filesrc location=/path/to/file ! decodebin ! fakesink sync=true” If that can't keep up, then it's just your CPU being too slow; netbook processors generally need GPU video decoding offloading to play decent- sized videos at an acceptable speed, and h264 is a processor-intensive video codec. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- [i945gme] Xorg hardware-specific on Delll Mini 9 Inspiron 910 : playback choppy with H264 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/490946 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553401] Re: typo in some symbol files in xkb-data
I started experiencing this bug in Lucid -Beta 1 (most likely after a large number of updates on 31-03-2010 from the repos were taken in) whenever I tried to add any of the Tamil and Sinhala keymaps. The Tamil keymaps are under symbols file "in" with couple of them cross listed in "lk" and the Sinhala keymap is in "lk". The "include" lines in these from which trailing semicolons have to be removed (as can be found with the grep statement given in bug description) are : /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/lk: include "nbsp(zwnj2nb3s)"; /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/in: include "nbsp(zwnj3zwj4)"; /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/in: include "nbsp(zwnj3zwj4)"; I confirm that the removal of the trailing semicolons in the above three solves the issue for the Tamil and Sinhala keymaps. I hope this bugfixing gets into updates quickly since there are users (atleast among Tamil users I know of) who exclusively depend on xkb- extension keymaps for non-english typography. -- typo in some symbol files in xkb-data https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553401 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508699] Re: [K8M800] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze
Quite difficult, because I do not have ways to debug from an other system and at the moment the system crashes my debugger crashes too :( But as far as I advanced Windows loads, VGA graphics are initialized, User logs on, then further graphics initializations are performed. Part of this is installing an IRQ handler for the graphics adapter. Finally graphics resolution is set to what the user adjusted it and then IRQs are enabled again. Booting Linux from power off state loads the kernel and initdisk, Then control is transfered to the kernel. There is *no* IRQ handler installed. Calling X11 then enables the IRQ for the graphics adapter. As soon as one IRQ is generated, the whole system freezes, because the IRQ handler points to useless code. If I've booted Windows (or systemrescuecd) before, the handler, installed and initialized, handles the IRQ, as it did with Windows (or systemrescuecd) running. Since both handlers do not call any other code they work as expected even if the system changes. I could not find any way to deactivate IRQ allocation for the graphics adapter. But enabling memory testing wiped the installed handler. With memory testing enabled it wasn't possible to boot Ubuntu 10.04 beta! The system froze as soon as it tried to access graphics, generating an IRQ. With an Vanilla kernel right from kernel.org I could make the whole thing work too. Leading to conclusion that some patch from Ubuntu must have side effects removing the IRQ handler install for the graphics adapter. -- [K8M800] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau With Nouveau enabled and subpixel font hinting enabled, fonts are rendered "glitchily". See the attached screenshot. Switching to "Best Contrast" or "Best Shapes" rendering solves the problem (I'm using the GNOME Appearance Preferences dialog to make the changes.) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553784] Re: Radeon X1300 AGP: 3D performance much slower after upgrade to Lucid
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 496653 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496653 ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati First off, let me say that 2D performance is much better overall after upgrading from Karmic to Lucid. User switching is especially fast and much improved. 3D performance is really bad though. If I enable "Normal" visual effects, the UI becomes unresponsive when moving windows or doing anything 3D related. When I attempt to move a window, the UI will freeze for 1-2 seconds at a time, update for a moment then freeze again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555298] Re: [Lucid] black screen when switching users
Hi Alwin Garside, radeontool can be used to assist in debugging this issue. To install it from the command line, use this command: sudo apt-get install radeontool After installing it, you run it like this: sudo radeontool regmatch '*' > regdump_good.txt sudo radeontool regmatch '*' > regdump_broke.txt Run it two times. Once when you have a working screen (for any driver), and once in the broken case (either from the tty console or logged into the sick box remotely). Attach both of those to this bug report, and we can then forward this issue upstream. Thanks ahead of time! ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg When switching users in Lucid, often X will freeze up and just give me a black screen with blinking cursor. When I try to go to the current session with Ctrl+Alt+F7,8,9,etc. I either get black, distorted or a non-responsive unlock screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554783] Re: Graphics Card Fan Suddenly Stopped While Using Computer
Fwiw, with my card I saw this set of symptoms happen intermittently for a few months, with increasing frequency over time. With several reboots, blowing canned air on it, etc. I could get the gpu fan to come on and work properly. But eventually it just stopped entirely and swapping out the card was the only option. I'd used the card pretty heavily for several years so it wasn't a surprise that the fan would die eventually. Pity though; aside from the fan that card had worked really well for me.
