[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic
Hi, phpmonkey & Rainer I have some question to ask you. 1). Why you use a 1024x600 screen? Is it 16:9 in your laptop. For the common dislay, both 4:3 and 16:9, after I use your xorg.conf to test the display (setup the AUTO menu), my xf86-video-geode version is 2.11.8, XServer version is 1.7.1. It also properly display (both 1024x600(16:9) and 1024x768(4:3)). So I confuse your question. Why do you want to use them? Is that what you want to do? 2).The attachment file is my xorg.conf. You can try to it in your environment. Please support the reproduce steps about bug. Could you support a picture to explain the phenomenon? I will follow it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
I would like to add that 855 graphics do not work properly on Microsoft operating systems. Windows XP, including Media Center Edition, is not a supported operating system (mainstream support ended 4/14/2009) and is therefore not germane to any conversation involving a currently- supported operating system. Windows Vista is still available for certain locales, and mainstream support ends 4/10/2012. Windows Vista supports most, but not all, i852/855 systems, and may be an option for some. The currently-supported and sold version of Windows is called Windows 7, and 852/855 graphics are completely unsupported by both Microsoft and Intel. Community-based workarounds are available, with varying degrees of success. Microsoft and Intel together released a product that broke every i852/855 machine still in existence. Please be aware that on Windows XP or Windows XP MCE, you will be entirely on your own for product support because Microsoft is no longer interested in supporting you (unless you have a qualifying Microsoft Support Agreement in place). If you are interested in support on Ubuntu 10.04, your support will end in 2013 for desktop systems or 2015 for server systems. This comment was off topic, and in reply to another off-topic comment. Please ensure that your comments directly contribute to adding further information about the i855 GPU lockup problem described in the bug report, including successes or failures caused by system updates. For my part, I'm still experiencing the problem on mainline 2.6.34-lucid, so it isn't fixed yet. There is a version with working 855 graphics...it's called Windows XP. I have used Ubuntu for the last 5 years and have had my laptop break in some manner on nearly every upgrade (usually Broadcom networking), but this issue is the final straw. Microsoft may be the great "evil", but they would never release a product that would break so many machines and remain so silent for so long. I have subscribed to every thread, read every comment, tried all the kernel updates, driver regressions, formatted and reinstalled clean and my D400 is still nearly useless for most common tasks, requiring me to boot to XP on a daily basis for anything more complicated than gmail. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585685] [NEW] Logout after switch user causes black screen and disables keyboard and mouse
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. While logged in as user A, System|Log Out |Switch User 2. Login to user B, ensure all is working properly and logout from user B. - screen goes black - keyboard no longer works - mouse no longer works 100% reproduceable. However, I can: 1. ssh -X into the machine w/o issue. I can bring up gui's from the affected machine (i.e., gnome-system-log, vino-preferences, etc). 2. remote login to the machine via VNC and get a screen; however I then get multiple tserver instances & have to kill it. Remote login to the machine using NX w/o issue. 3. reboot the machine from the remote ssh. Attempts to resolve: 1. Ensured that the problem exists with enhanced graphics turned off (System|Preferences|Appearance|Visual Effects|None) 2. Ensured that the problem wasn't related to gnome-screensaver as per similar reports (purged gnome-screensaver, installed gnome-screensaver 2.30.0-0ubuntu2 etc). Workaround: Remove nvidia-96 and reboot. All switching between users then works properly. Reinstall nvidia-96 and the problem occurs. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585651] Re: Cannot install on HP 2540p laptop
Actually, only one of the two patches appears to be necessary; the Intel developer is in China, and should be waking up around now. The second patch will force higher bandwidth than necessary operation (taking power). So let's wait and see what ykzhao says in response to the test that Dick Marinus did. Several other items I forgot to mention in the original report: 1) I reproduced this bug on Fedora Beta as well as after its initial discovery in Ubuntu 10.04; Fedora is in fact where the dmesg dump came from that I sent to ajax with the rom file. Ajax has been recovering from a bike accident, so I've been reluctant to ask him to build me something on Fedora (he busted his arm and has a case of road rash, but is ok). But Fedora fails identically as Ubuntu. 2) It isn't clear this is really the same bug #554569 or not, though the gross symptoms are very similar. Ajax said that I had about the first eDP panel in captivity he had seen; the IBM x201 has been out considerably longer, and the Intel driver folks have x201's in captivity. I therefore doubt that the x201 has an eDP panel, though do not know for sure. The specific version of the HP 2540p I have is: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06b/321957-321957-64295-3740645-3955549-4138624-4138627-4156284.html Exactly how urgent this bug will be to fix in the general population depends on the uptake of eDP panels by the industry, still a bit hard to predict. I did the somewhat risky thing of getting the latest and greatest laptop on the market :-(, and still got burned even having checked if there were likely to be any issues with the X developers. Oh well. One more arrow to the very large collection already on my back. But it will certainly become a much bigger long term issue given 10.04 is an LTS release, even if your sample size ends up being just one person with eDP displays today. -- Cannot install on HP 2540p laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585651 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585651] [NEW] Cannot install on HP 2540p laptop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel On attempted boot of a LiveCD image of 10.04 release for initial installation, the laptop screen goes dark, you hear the disk drive run for a long time, you hear even the cheery ubuntu sound. But no video. If you have an external monitor plugged in, you even get the X background and cursor on the external screen; but the internal stays dark. This may (or may not) be the same as launchpad bug #554569, which is very similar hardware from IBM and very similar symptoms; but is related to the use of an embedded DP panel. The bug is being worked upstream on fdo at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28070 [Arrandale] No output (black) on eDP Attached are the dmesg output and rom contents provided upstream. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Cannot install on HP 2540p laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585651 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

When I kill X and start it from the command line with "startx" it consistantly failes with the same error ("Failed to submit batchbuffer: Input/output error"). Also, just before that line, and not written to anywhere but the console, is: "../../intel/intel_bufmgr_gem.c:901: Error setting to CPU domain 3: Input/output error" I typed that, so it could have typos, but I checked several times. I disabled a bunch of stuff in my xorg.conf which I think has a pretty good chance of stopping the crashes. No feeling on effect on performance yet. ** Attachment added: "xorg.conf possibly stopping crashes" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/49099504/xorg.conf -- X keeps crashing in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582564 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556872] Re: [lucid] [nouveau] blank screen on Dell Latitude E6410 (NVS 3100M [10de:0a6c])
[ FOUND WORK-AROUND ] I have it working. I simply hit ESC at the grub prompt and F6, then added the lines: xforcevesa i915.blacklist=true nouveau.modeset=0 nouveau blacklist=true before the "--" at the end of the parameters. After the installation, i rebooted and couldn't even pull up Grub - it was that bad. I booted back into the live cd and mounted the local drive and changed the line for the generic kernel in /boot/grub.cfg to have the options mentioned above which did nothing. (I personally hate buying bleeding edge hardware.) I rebooted into the live cd, chrooted and removed nouveau- drivers with aptitude. rebooted - black screen. I rebooted into the Live-CD, and performed these chroot procedures: mkdir /mnt/hdd mounted /sys /proc /dev /dev/pts with --bind, chrooted /mnt/hdd installed linux-headers-`uname -r` and ran: wget: http://de.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/195.22/NVIDIA- Linux-x86-195.22-pkg1.run -O nvidia.sh && ./nvidia.sh Install went perfectly, updated my xconfig file, etc, rebooted - black screen. rebooted into Live-CD and performed same chroot procedures, ran synaptic and REMOVED all NVIDIA drivers, then removed i915 drivers. Re-ran the ./nvidia.sh script and re-installed NVIDIA 195.55.x drivers i downloaded above. - rebooted and black screen!! Alrighty, now I'm a mad nerd. Follow the chroot instructions above, then editted /etc/default/grub.cfg and changed the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nouveau.modeset=0 nouveau.blacklist=true i915.blacklist=true" i put the intel thing in there even through i tossed the drivers previously in the story above, because i was just mad. Then, I ran update-grub2 which works in the chrooted environment. Then I rebooted, and I finally saw X. It failed really badly and said that it was in low-graphics mode and asked me to select a mode, I selected Low graphics mode. Then, when i got Gnome I did CTRL+ALT+F2 and killed GDM with /etc/init.d/gdm stop which didn't kill it until I actually went back to that pts CTRL+ALT+F7 and clicked "OK" to the message displayed. (lame). Then, I ran the nvidia.sh installer and this time there were no errors. I let it update my xorg file and exited. Then I updated it anyways: nvidia-xconfig and did /etc/init.d/gdm start And I saw the BETA DRIVER NVIDIA splash image and X was in perfect resolution! After I rebooted, saw X, and I celebrated. -- [lucid] [nouveau] blank screen on Dell Latitude E6410 (NVS 3100M [10de:0a6c]) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556872 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585498] [NEW] Blank screen after user switching on Intel hw and with KMS on
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After starting another X session by swicthing users, attempting to switch back to the first gives a blank screen. If the switch is done using Ctrl+Alt+F7 I can switch to the new user again with Ctrl+Alt+F8; but if I try to switch back using the user switch applet I can't (i.e. both VT7 and VT8 show and blank screen). if I log out of the new user's session, all VTs are blank (incluing 1-6). I can log in using ssh and restating gdm gets everything back to normal. This seems to be closely realted (but not identical) to some other bugs. The closest being 546578 but (a) I am not using ATI hardware and (b) the problem is not there when KMS is off (i.e. booting with i915.modeset=0 fixes the problem). Just as in 546578, entering a password blind and running xgamma -gamma 1.0 also get the VT back to normal. After this switching back and forth works fine. I suspect this is just http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27382 in another guise but it seems worth reporting. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Blank screen after user switching on Intel hw and with KMS on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585498 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

It showed frequent hang.then I upgraded to ubuntu 10.04, from the first day I have the following problems. The mouse pointer is disabled for nearly 10 minutes and then it appears. But,all the mouse actions are carried on and when I highlight some icons, menus using mouse, I am able to do so. If I open a terminal and type some command , then if I move the mouse I could get the mouse pointer visible. So, Daily after boot, I openup a terminal , type something and make the mouse pointer visible. The next problem is when I am working , in between suddenly I get a black screen with white vertical lines filling half the screen. after this screen, I am not able to do anything, but just reboot the system manually. I tried to boot in failsafe GNOME. But no use.In both GNOME and failsafe GNOME I get the same screen. Nowadays This problem is occuring frequently. I am really frustrated because I am currently working in my project and this error leads to loss of data. My system configuration : Pentium IV processor with 2.4GHz speed, Intel 845GV chipset motherboard, 40GB Harddisk, 512+128 MB of DDR RAM, 15" CRT monitor. I have a broadband connection of 256Kbps speed. I also update the system when asked by the package update manager through Internet. I am not sure what causes the problem. Please help me out. Waiting for your valuable suggestions. [Ubuntu-x-swat] R: [Bug 498736] Re: black screen for chat (ubuntu-bug xorg)
Hello, Sorry to answer so late. I tried on Lucid and the problem continues to be present, even if it is not so persistent as in previous releases. I made a little video in youtube, so you can see what I mean. At the moment I've uninstalled Lucid and come back to Hardy (which supports proprietary driver fglrx for ATI Radeon X1600 and does not present the problem). In Hardy with proprietary driver, the image is fine and stable. Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rnvc5UElNU If you need to know also which is the monitor, here what it is written on the sticker: HP w22, HSTND-2241-T, product number RG556AA, assembled "January 2007, 434000-001, CTM003". But I think the problem is in the open source driver for radeon. I tested again with a live cd of Lucid Kubuntu and it seems to me that some applications give more troubles than other ones. In particular, I got almost any trouble with konquerror or firefox, but it is impossible to work, if I have xchat maximised (the size of the window seems also affect the problem). I used a live disto because I wouldn't like have to reformat the partition to downgrade twince. Btw, I typed "apport-collect 498736" in a terminal to update it in Lucid. Yours Sincerely. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585462] [NEW] random interface freeze
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have used 9.10 and earlier releases on this hardware daily with no problems, but after an upgrade to 10.04 I experience the following problem once for every several hours that I use the machine. There is no specific trigger that causes it. The symptoms are that suddenly the keyboard becomes unresponsive. This includes low-level features like activation of the CapsLock indicator light, though Alt+SysRq+o is effective. I am able to move the mouse pointer, but mouse clicks have no effect. There is no corruption of the display. I am able to SSH in to the system, and when I do I notice that xorg is at 100% CPU usage. I have found nothing in any log that indicates a problem, but perhaps you will be able to do so. This is likely related to other recent bugs such as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- ati/+bug/577236 but I have filed a separate report because my symptoms are not exactly the same as any other report. (For example, I am using neither ATI hardware nor compositing.) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568015] Re: Watermark "AMD unsupported hardware" is displayed
@coldReactive: I did not install the latest drivers. I still use the drivers that came with ubuntu and only replaced the control file located in /etc/ati I've only downloaded the latest drivers to extract the control file, not to install it :) So keep your (working) drivers and extract the latest *.run file by adding the option --extract in a terminal. Then replace your current "control" file with the extracted one (as described above) Please notice, that this only may help, if your graphics card is already WORKING and you only want to get rid of the watermark. If your graphics card stopped working with the drivers, that come with ubuntu 10.04 you could try to install an older one and then replace the control file. -- Watermark "AMD unsupported hardware" is displayed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568015 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
