[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552246] Re: [radeon] pointer invisible after resume

@Alejandro Cura
It's in comment 6 of the bug linked by alcarola, but it points to comment 23 of
this bug, containing your workaround.
So there seems to be only one automatic workaround (yours).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575584] Re: Lucid Lynx - Increasing monitor resolution results in invisible mouse pointer.

2010-06-10 Thread Dananjaya
I'm also experiencing this problem in Compaq Deskpro Evo. The way i get the
mouse pointer back is;
Going to Applications >> Sound and Video >> Movie Player; from the mouse (Still
Invisible).
After Movie player is launched mouse pointer is exactly at the middle of the
viewing pane (of Movie Player) even though we can't see it. Then just
double-click to make it go full-screen. Now you should be able to see the mouse
pointer. I stumbled upon this when i was experimenting to get back the mouse
pointer. Although this is not a perfect solution, as in every time you log-in,
you have to repeat the steps to get the mouse pointer back.

Boots and runs with quiet, splash and no xorg.conf. I don't know how
long it will run O.K. since it's late.

BTW, maverick 2.6.34-5 boots and runs on i845G as installed from CD,
with default xserver and quiet, splash.

Maverick updates to 2.6.35-1 and 2.6.35-2 boot to black screen too late
now to try to get some info from ssh if possible. If I'm able to get
some info I'll check launchpad for other reports and if not enter a bug.

Thanks, Jerry

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592415] [NEW] xserver-xorg will not update

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592423] Re: Matrox G200eW Driver Issue

2010-06-10 Thread Robert Hooker
What is the problem? It looks like mga is not loaded by default for this
device in jaunty (but it is in later releases). You can add this to
/etc/X11/xorg.conf to force the mga driver to load.

 Identifier "mga"
 Driver "mga"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592032] Re: nvidia module only working after gdm restart

2010-06-10 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Creating a custom blacklist and updating the initrd solved the problem
(I did not yet identify one specific module, so this might be more
modules than necessary):

blacklist vga16fb
blacklist rivafb
blacklist nvidiafb

So it seems /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf does not
blacklist enough modules. My guess is that the framebuffer blocks the
nvidia module from loading properly on the first try.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592447] [NEW] X shows noise on screen (SiS 661/741- pci id 1039:6330 rev 03)

2010-06-10 Thread Ricardo Aguiar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I am trying to use at work a machine that have Sis 661/741/760 graphics
adapter. When I set the resolution to 1280x720 (the size my wide screen monitor
can handle) it appears noise on the screen. Using Windows(r) it does not happen
(it works ok).
I tried to change the configurations (creating xorg.conf that is not generated
at instalation anymore), but nothing helped. The VESA driver does not seem to
allow this screen definition.

It seems to be a xorg driver problem (on "sis" driver).

I hope you can find the problem.

Thanks for you help.

Ric.

any input. I will try to open a ssh connection from another computer and
see how that works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575186] Re: X locks up on Thinkpad X201 i5 Laptop

2010-06-10 Thread Jon Skulski
Well I just reporting another freeze (two in a row! :( ). Both times I
was not using my soundcard. I had been using an externel display,
keyboard and mouse when this happened.

I will also note that I am using a patched kernel from the above thread.
I am using the kernel debs provided by #45 and #46.

I have since disconnected my external display to see if that has any
correlation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585689] Re: hard freeze just before ubuntu splash screen

It would not be a bug in the plymouth theme. It may be a bug in
plymouth itself, but this will need a lot more debugging to be able to
say which component the bug lies with.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555169] Re: [lucid] Keyboard and mouse freeze after grub, usb and PS/2 keyboard not working in X (after upgrade? bad-upgrade to lucid)

2010-06-10 Thread Lars Ola Liavåg
I issued bug #590966 but have now marked it as a duplicate of this one.
I've been experiencing a lagging mouse and keybord for some time after
getting to the login screen. This seems to have been solved by writing a
new xorg.conf from the NVIDIA X server settings application and as such,
I'm quite happy about things now.

As a side note, though, I now see that the lag has "moved" from before
login to after. By this I mean that when I've entered my password and
enter has been pressed, there is a lag before there's any evidence of
GNOME starting up. I'll be subscribing to this bug to see if anybody
else are reporting similar symptoms.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554980] Re: two finger scroll/multitouch trackpad not working on lenovo thinkpad w510

2010-06-10 Thread Adam Aviv
The solution in #10 did not work on my t400s. I added the xorg input
configuration in both /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d and in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d without effect.

I created a quick bash script using the solution to #5 and have it run
on login via the startup applications. That works pretty well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592286] [NEW] radeon kms freezes computer (RV280 Radeon 9200 SE)

2010-06-10 Thread Marcus Overhagen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Graphics are very slow, and opening Google in Firefox will instantly
freeze the machine in Ubuntu 10.04

Removing compiz and compiz-core didn't solve this.

Using the kernel command line options "ro nomodeset" instead of "ro
quiet splash" solves this problem.

The machine does not freeze when kms is disabled, and graphics speed is
acceptable (as in 9.10)

This machine is using a PCI Radeon 9200 SE card (not PCI express)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 258357] Re: [G86GL] Latest NVIDIA drivers: X hangs with blank screen after logout.

2010-06-10 Thread Ted_Smith
Having said that, I've just applied updates today (10/06/10) and it
seems to be OK for now. The problem did occur 'out-of'the-box' though,
and has done for the first few weeks of the 10.04 release (for me).

My card is the NVIDIA Geforce FX5600, by the way, which is one of the
older (legacy) cards I think. The latest drivers don't work with it.
That might have been the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 428396] Re: gnometris doesn't display the game area

2010-06-10 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

The game is installed by default in Ubuntu. The name has changed from
Gnometris to Quadrapssel, however, this issue still exists for those
users with an ATI video card.

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

According to the upstream maintainer (see comment #2), this is not an
issue in the game itself, but rather in fglrx. I am adding the fglrx-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592044] Re: Blank screen after upgrade and reboot [Ubuntu 10.10alpha1 ]

2010-06-10 Thread Susan Cragin
2.6.35.2-generic was updated today about 10am EST and this update did
not solve the problem.

I have a wishlist suggestion. I think that in very early alpha releases the
/etc/default/grub should include a visible menu.
So the default line should be:

#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=4

This would make life easier for the early alpha testers, since we all
must change this line in the expectation we will have some kernel
problems.

xrandr only detects screen 0

Above ppas etc. appear to require xorg-server which I can't find in

Anything else useful I can provide?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly

2010-06-10 Thread James Sams
I don't think it is a duplicate. I've never had the crash occur while
browsing (though firefox is always open) and don't see a firefox core
dump or anything like that. I have intel hardware, not ATI. However, I
also cannot find a specific trigger, and it does look like it may be
caused by erroneous handling of a null pointer. Uploading the full
logfiles from each crash is kinda hopeless as they grow to be rather
large. I collect several files after each crash to examine, and the
folder of those files is about 700MiB per crash. Unfortunately, I cannot
trigger the crash, so getting a full gdb backtrace is going to be
difficult.

The backtrace I am finding in my Xorg.failsafe.log is:

Fix confirmed. After installing the version in lucid-proposed the e-mail
is replaced with a support notice; no references to a ubuntu.com e-mail
could be found in the log then.

2010-06-10 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for the output.

The error is
update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated)
lzma: Cannot allocate memory

I'm reaffecting to initramfs-tools but this can as well be a problem with lzma.
I noticed that there is no swap space available. Assuming it is a out of memory
issue, are you able to setup a swap space on another usb disk and see if it
occurs again ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592086] [NEW] Problems related to not being able to use Nvidia 9400 in Macbook Pro

2010-06-10 Thread Gorka Navarrete
Public bug reported:

Some of the new Macbooks Pro (I think the 5,x series) are equipped with
"dual GPU's", Nvidia 9400 and 9600, the first for low-power
consumption/long battery, the second for high performance.

In Lucid the default graphic card used is the 9600 and there is not an
obvious or easy way to switch to the Nvidia 9400 (in MacOs you can do
that in the Energy Saver preferences menu).

The problems associated to the forced use of the Nvidia 9600 are:

*Lower battery life (<3h with Ubuntu compared to 7 hours with MacOs)
*High temperatures (with Ubuntu, the computer is always a lot hotter)

The battery life problem is a deal breaker when you are on the move.

I expect to be able to select which GPU to use (Nvidia 9400 or 9600).

** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 371750] Re: Wine d3d9 test causes unhandled exception

2010-06-10 Thread Ken Sharp
The crash does indeed still occur with Lucid.

I have attached an updated backtrace with the latest Wine git. I added
the -dbg package for the graphics drivers too but they don't seem to
have made any difference.

** Attachment added: "wine-1.2-rc2-251-ge533ec4 console output"
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50058197/d3d9_test.log

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Running the d3d9 tests from the current git Wine
  (wine-1.1.20-185-g2d8f252) causes an unhandled exception.

  From #winehq:
KenSharp: Anyway, looks like you're in Mesa3D software rendering, and
it and Wine are not getting along. Is that intentional?
i'm using whatever comes with Ubuntu 8.10 for the ATI Radeon 5900.
fglrx simply doesn't work so I don't use it
Neat. You probably want to install libgl1-mesa-dri (or something like
that). I'd blame a bug in mesa's software rasteriser for crashing when
compiling a GLSL program.
   fair enough
   libgl1-mesa-dri is installed
Well, then I stand by my suggestion that it's mesa crashing, and it
shouldn't be. What's xdriinfo say, BTW?
There's Wine debug channels that'll dump the shaders being produced,
that would let you see what the GLSL being fed to Mesa looks like, and then you
could chase it up with Mesa developers, or even write yourself a test harness
if you're up to it.
i have no programming skills unfortunately. my days ended with
BASIC
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":20.0".
Screen 0: not direct rendering capable.
   that's not good!

If you are aware of Wine, you will be aware that there are many debug
channels available, but I do not know enough about this kind of error to
know what further information would be useful (including which package
  is causing the problem).

Graphics card is an ATI Radeon 5900. I am not running fglrx.
