[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 686164] Re: Compiz broken on radeon mobility
Ah ok, the problem here is that you are using xorg-edgers which I haven't updated to handle the r300c DRI name used when UMS is used in natty so the fallback to classic mesa isn't working. That's to be expected at the moment, I have uploaded a new ati that doesn't include that logic but you will still get swrast and no compiz until you stop disabling KMS. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: compiz Description: Ubuntu natty (development branch) Release: 11.04 I updated my thinkpad t42 to help debugging 11.04 for get a stable desktop in next april. The way we determined it as an out of space issue, is Sarvatt reproduced your problem on a USB stick by manually installing nvidia, and got the error message that way: Setting up initramfs-tools (0.98.1ubuntu7) ... update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated) lzma: Encoder error: -2147467259 dpkg: error processing initramfs-tools (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 after sudo apt-get install nvidia-current from a terminal He wasn't able to find the error message in any logs. Typical places to look would be /var/log/dpkg.log or the make.log (found a couple levels deep under /var/lib/dkms). You might poke around in your /var/log/ to see if you can find an error message which indicates a problem other than disk usage. lzma error "-2147467259" means "no space to unpack the archive". See bug #562312 as another example. There is a possibility that you're not actually truly out of space at all, it's just that the installer *thinks* there's not enough. Some further analysis is needed to pinpoint the exact steps to reproduce the issue. If you could do some additional testing to identify the steps, that'd help move things forward faster. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685017 Title: Jockey should warn on insufficient disk space in LiveCD environment, else get error "package nvidia-current 260.19.21-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1" ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 686164] Re: Compiz broken on radeon mobility
If you look at the glxinfo.txt attachment you can see the full output of glxinfo and see that compiz is quite right, you lack proper support for the GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap and are using the Software Rasterizer (check the renderer string). I don't know if this is a configuration issue on your system or a bug in the driver so I've reassigned to the radeon driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 680811] Re: incorrect maximise behaviour with twinview
The current Xorg-log (attached) shows that I'm running a non-standard kernel (for audio) and updated nvidia-driver (260.19.26 is the first vdpau-capable driver that seem reasonably free from memleaks with my gtx260-card). The system does however behave the same with stock 10.10 packages. ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/680811/+attachment/1757853/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/680811 Title: incorrect maximise behaviour with twinview ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I then set the res to 1024x768, using the System>Preferences/Monitor dialog, and logged out and logged in (without rebooting the OS). This time the screen came up in 1024x768 without the top panel, but showing the bottom panel. I've attached yet another Xorg.0.log (-.log4) file. THEN I rebooted completely. After that, I proceeded to log in. The screen came up in 1024x76 mode, because I had previously set that resolution with the System>Preferences>Monitors dialog. So I used System>Preferences>Monitors to set the resolution to 1600x1200, and rebooted. After I logged in, the screen came up in 1600x1200, but the top panel didn't appear. I'm adding a Jockey task because I think this needs fixed via better installation space checking during installation by jockey. But I'm leaving the -nvidia task open for now, for tracking/duping purposes. I don't *think* there is anything we can change in -nvidia to correct the bug, but until it's fixed we may see an increase number of reports of failures along these lines. ** Changed in: jockey (Ubuntu Natty) Milestone: None => natty-alpha-3 ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu Natty) Milestone: natty-alpha-3 => None -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685017 Title: Jockey should warn on insufficient disk space in LiveCD environment, else get error "package nvidia-current 260.19.21-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1" ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This issue has existed for some time, however in natty with Unity now being the default interface users are shown a warning that they lack 3D. This motivates them to try installing a binary driver via jockey. Especially if they're just testing to kick the tires, they may attempt to do so on media without sufficient space. Since for all NVIDIA owners the LiveCD boots with nouveau (currently defaulted to 2D-only), a lot of people will be encountering this particular bug work flow. Because of this, I think the severity of this bug is critical. ** Description changed: [Problem] This is a common issue encountered by users trying to install -nvidia on systems with insufficient space to install the driver. This can happen for instance if the user is booting from a usb disk. It is further noticed that in many cases the system may appear to have enough space, but it still fails on an out of space issue. It is suspected that either more space is used than expected, or the amount of available space is overreported. Jockey should check for available space on installation, and should include a sizable margin (like 2.5x space asked). If the user has less than that amount of space, it should give a dialog warning them that they won't have enough space. + [Original Report] Booted from usb disk Got a notice saying that unity was not available because I didn't have 3D. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524281] Re: Tens of wakes per second in "[kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick" on Core 2 Duo even with only 1 core enabled
Just installed the 2.6.36 mainline kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com /~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.36-maverick/. VMWare Player is not working, but that's another story. [kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick = 2.3 [extra timer interrupt] = 11.7 Total interrupts under idle conditions = 66.7 (earlier it was ~180). Ok, now we know the story, or at-least a part of it. We will all be a happy breed of people if the fixes are back ported to the latest stable release of Maverick from the Ubuntu repository. So if we do a 'sudo apt-get update && upgrade" we should get the patches applied and don't have to fiddle with unsupported releases of the core of the OS. I am keeping my fingers crossed. VMWare is not working as of now, PS/2 interrupts are still very high and might discover a thing or 2 later, but as of now, with the 2.6.36, the issue seems to be resolved. Will feel a lot more satisfied after the fixed version lands up through the official repo on a officially supported release (2.6.35 at the moment). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524281 Title: Tens of wakes per second in "[kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick" on Core 2 Duo even with only 1 core enabled ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 686120] [NEW] dual monitor: won't restore resolution after suspend/resume
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have a laptop with 2nd monitor connected to VGA port. Steps: 1. Close the laptop, Ubuntu suspends. 2. Open the laptop. Unbutu successfully resumes. 3. Input password Result: resolution is 1024x768 on both monitors. Same image on both monitors. Expected: 1600x900 on external monitor, 1366x768 on laptop monitor, as I set before suspend+resume. Layout is the same as before suspend+resume. Note: When I boot the laptop with monitor connected, at login screen resolution and layout is wrong, but as I log in, it sets automatically according to my settings. I think the same must happen after suspend/resume. For now, I have to maually set resolution every time, it's very bothering. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 665687] Re: Failed to initialize the nvidia-173 kernel module in Maverick
FYI - installed kubuntu 10.10 from scratch on the same notebook - Used Jockey to activate the nvidia-173 driver. - (Got a few delays and strange messages along the way, but...) - found that nvidia 173 works fine. The problem is therefore most likely to be an incompatibility or a setting that does not exist in a vanilla 10.10 environment. For everybody who is experiencing this bug I suggest a full set of backups and a fresh installation is less time consuming than tinkering with the 173 driver. Nouveau (from the beta PPA's) has improved considerably over the past few weeks - it's really not bad at all - but I missed some of the advanced 3d desktop effects. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682864] Re: [GMA 4500MHD] Display freeze after VGA cable disconnected
On the suggestion of Sarvatt in #ubuntu-x I installed the ~ubuntu-x-swat PPA and upgraded the xserver-xorg-video-intel package to 2:2.13.901-2ubuntu2~xup~maverick . He thought this bug was most likely bug 626967. It *may* be that bug, but, after restarting and hooking up a second monitor my video is messed up. Sorry I forgot to take a screenshot before reverting the package and restarting (I'm at work). Description of the problem: The external monitor's right hand side is displaying a vertical piece the laptop's left hand output, about 1.5 inches on a 22" 1680x1050 monitor. The output on the laptop looks fine. Additionally, where the mouse appears to be on screen and what I actually click on does not line up. When my mouse appears to be clicking on a button, I'm actually clicking about 1.5 inches to the left. Or, in another way, to click on a button I need to put my mouse 1.5 inches to the right of that button. I'm still game for debugging/installing new packages, just let me know! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682864 Title: [GMA 4500MHD] Display freeze after VGA cable disconnected ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
